Undiagnosed Dizziness And Pressure Headaches
Oct 9, 2014
I am 21 year old female college student, I have been dealing with these health issues since November 2013. I used to lead a healthy lifestyle, doing great in school, had a job, and participated in school organizations. Also, I was able to exercise everyday and was in the best shape of my life and ate extremely healthy no bread, lots of veggies and grilled chicken. Happier as ever.
Then one day after exercising i began to feel this nauseated off feeling that made me feel as though im not stable. I have never fallen over or fainted (except once when i got my blood drawn to check for this problem). Then gradually over time dizziness is what i began feeling not the room spinning but i feel like i am moving when im not, i feel like i have to second guess where i walk and concentrating on the computer or driving long distances is a challenge. Then started these headaches since April 2014 where i feeling like my head is shaking and pulsing inside. This pulsing and pressure worsens when I am lying down and it takes a while for me to adjust from lying down to standing up i feel woozy when i do. Anyway I have had this constantly everyday. At first it got me really emotional but I have been practicing yoga/meditation everyday as well as acupuncture and massage therapy to help manage the stress and anxiety i was having about the dizziness/head pressure.
Heres the many doctors I have seen:
blood work - all normal according my GP; blood pressure, b12, thyroid is normal
eyes (i wear contacts) - optometrist, ophthalmologist, neuro-opthamologist - all normal; no elevated optic nerve pressure; prescription is the same
ears - saw two ENTS, had vestibular testing done - nothing wrong
finally got an MRI - it showed i have a cavum velum interpositum cyst (3x3.7 cm in sagittal views (side), 3.2x 4 cm axial view); i was most likely born with this - it is hard to say if has grown or always been this size and might be an incidental finding - hard for doctors to say which makes it super frustrating
**NO HYDROCEPHALUS, hemorrhage, midline shift, extra axial collection, or acute intracranial mass effect
i have seen about 3 neurosurgeons all with different opinions
- first was an adult surgeon at the cleveland clinic - said my cyst is very rare; suggest a shunt (but would not want this due to the risky foreign object nature of the device, i would rather an endoscopic procedure)
- second saw a pediatric neurosurgeon; put me on diamox 250 mg twice a day it has been making my head feel better so the doctor is inclined to think its the cyst
- third pediatric neurosurgeon at University of miami; was not convinced the cyst is causing my problems said it was probably incidental and wants me to wait 3-6 months to get another MRI
is anyone going through this.. i'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible. i just hope i do not have to feel like this forever i had to take the semester off of my senior year of college because i wanted to get to the bottom of these problems that have affected my whole life. just want to be normal again.

For the past 8 months I have been suffering from dizziness, slow going at first and was manageable, but I am worried that it was a warning sign as things are getting worse.
When it first started I would get random dizzy attacks when moving my head (feel like the room around me was spinning or I was still moving when I wasn't) I went to the doctors and he explained it could be from my operation and my body getting over the anaesthetic, just a keyhole op to take appendix out. He recommended I wait and if it didn't improve within a month then to go back. I returned a month later as the symptoms hadn't improved and was put on some antibiotics to "relieve" the symptoms. When this didn't work I again returned only to be given a higher dose of them for a further month . I was then told to wait yet another month without them in the hope it would relieve the dizziness completely.
Then it started to get worse. My vision has changed and not become as clear almost a bit cloudy and I see flashing lights sometimes, I have had my eyes tested and even been to the hospital for a detailed eye examination -nothing. Then around 4 weeks ago I began getting migraines with aura and have had one a week since it started and the dizziness has become constant. I notice it really bad when I am still and concentrating and it feels as if everything around me is moving and also when I move then stand still a wave of dizziness comes over me and completely throws me off balance almost as if the ground is moving , I never fall but always feel like I am going to. I returned to the doctors last and have now been asked to get blood tests which are in 2 weeks ad have been referred to a neurologist which I have been told can take up to 8 weeks.
This week it has been extremely bad and has reduced me to tears a number of times as it really frightens me. I have had a constant headache sort of behind my eyes which feels dull and almost like there is pressure in my head, for the past 3 days and painkillers aren't helping. Every time I walk, move, or even am still the dizziness appears. It is affecting my work as I am unable to be at my computer a long time due to my vision. I was told to go back to the doctors should things get worse and plan to go tomorrow evening to out of hours. I really don't think that I can wait 8 weeks for a date to see the neurologist and feel it needs to be done sooner. I have been reading about my symptoms and have no clear steer on the possibility but I am really worried at the possibility of a brain tumor as a family member passed away of this last year.
I think it's important to note that I am 21, and generally eat well and exercise regularly (not as much as of late due to severe dizziness) At the end of last year I suffered from panic attacks, costochondritis and anxiety following the loss of a close family member. Once I went back to work January this year things improved hugely on that front. I understand that anxiety is often linked to dizziness but I am struggling to believe this has stemmed from that. I now only suffer anxiety of fear of these feelings returning.

I am getting to be concerned now of my symptoms. I have a pressure feeling in my head with frontal headaches and ear pressure (left ear) and i often feel unsteady on my feet. I have been to my GP and she gave me some antibiotics and nasal spray. I have finished the antibiotics but still using the nasal spray but i don't feel any different. I went to an opticians about a month ago just to rule out anything serious and she ruled out a tumour because she said opticians can pick these up as they can tell by the pressure but i am getting worried again because i just don't feel right - my head doesn't feel clear, it always feel full and blocked. I want to ask for a scan when i next visit my GP in a couple of weeks as i can't help thinking there is something serious going on.

I've been having migraine headaches, pressure headaches, dizziness and nausea. I kept chalking it all up to menopause. Because as most of you know, so many of these symptoms are menopause.
Last Friday, Jan 2nd at around 7:30PM my boyfriend and I were leaving a restaurant, suddenly I started getting shocks in my right leg like my leg was falling asleep, while I was walking to the car. This shocking feeling quickly radiated up my arm and into my head, all on the right side. My boyfriend quickly started toward the hospital. On the way I lost the ability to formulate sentences and words. I would say one sentence and a totally different sentence would come out. I would try to say one word and a totally different word came out. Being a former medic the only word I wanted to relay was "stroke". It felt like someone had tasted my right side. It was the most frightening thing I'd ever experienced and I was awake for the entire ride. After getting to the hospital I was in the ER for about 3 hours. Then sent to Neurology/Stroke ward. For the next few days I had a battery of MRI's, EEG, EKG's, CT Scans, Blood Work, Ultrasounds and a Spinal (Lumbar Punch). Within 6 or so hours I was able to formulate sentences and say words again. I forced myself the entire time. My right side started getting feeling back within a few days. I still have some numbness in my right hand and am experiencing peripheral neuropathy symptoms in my right leg and foot.
The neurologist found a mass in my brain. Thanks be to God that it is benign. I just found out yesterday that I am cancer free. However, they still don't know what the mass is. It could be a tumor or a jelly bean I stuffed in my nose as a child. (joking) But we won't know for a while. Also it might be inoperable too. I will be seeing the Dr on the 13th for an MRI Rx. In a month we'll do the MRI and see what has happened with this mass. Is the edema gone, has it shrunk or grown? Things like that.

Two months ago I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and took antibiotics but after I finished them I still wasn't feeling great so my doctor put me on another round. Finished those and then began having slight headaches, lots of nausea, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea and extreme exhaustion. I have had two blood tests and nothing shows up I have an ultrasound this week but does anyone have any idea of what this could be? I am a normally healthy twenty year old and this is keeping me from work and school!

I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.
I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.
I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.
I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.
What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.
Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.
Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Is it possible that an Otologist should be seen for diagnoses of of a problem with the nerves in my ear or a viral infection? This discussion is related to Constant head sensation/pressure, nausea, weakness, terrified!

For three days now, I have been experiencing intense headaches and dizziness whenever I move. When I sit still, I cannot feel the headache, however, I do feel very lightheaded when I sit still. My eyes have also been extremely sore 24/7, and I have been experiencing the chills when it starts to get later into the night.
I have been taking my temperature very often the past few days and my temp hasn't been above 99 degrees F, so it is not a fever. I have also been hydrating myself profusely (dehydration was my first guess) and it is not dehydration.
I am a little worried since I have never really had issues with headaches or dizziness.

Hi. I have been suffering with vertigo/dizziness (mainly swaying feeling) for 11 months. The past few months my head has been very strained and tense and I have been getting headaches everyday. I can feel my whole brain in my head (mainly the top and back) and my head often pounds. Looking up my diagnosis of vestibular neuritis (VN) explains many of my symptoms of the past 11 months but I am getting used to the dizziness and fatigue but the head pain/pressure/strain is far worse than the dizziness now. The symptoms I am experiencing at the moment seem to be that of migraine associated vertigo (MAV) as the symptoms people are explaining for this seem to better explain what I have been experiencing the past few months .I wake everyday feeling dizzy and with a very strained head like my head is too small for my brain and it gets worse until I get a headache (my whole brain aches). The past week or so the headache goes by the next day but for a while it would take two days or more to go away before returning again.
I have had a XRay of my neck (clear), Eye check (needed glasses for first time), CT-Scan of head (clear), Paid to see private ENT specialist (said not much he could do. Suggested as fatigue is so severe and I am a heavy snorer for me to have a sleep study. Results say I have severe obstructive sleep apnoea AHI 32), Seen an NHS Audiologist (all hearing, eye, balance tests don't show any problem with my vestibular system/balance system)
I am waiting for an NHS basic sleep study before they consider me for a CPAP machine for sleep apnoea. I have an appointment to have an operation to have a deviated septum corrected as I cannot breath very well through one nostril. I also have an appointment to see an ENT specialist on the NHS in April. When I see my GP soon I will ask to go on the waiting list to see an Neuro-otologist as they specialise in the brain and migraines. The past few months I have cut out caffeine from my diet and I eat very healthily attending slimming world and I have lost 6.5 stone in 16 months. It has not been easy losing weight when I have been ill and feeling low but I have made it my mission to lose weight since becoming dizzy. My heart goes out to anyone with this condition. It is an invisible illness and most people don't understand or believe you are unwell. Please stay positive. My life has changed dramatically the past year and I am house bound most days but I have learnt to appreciate the little I can do and the great friends I have. My hope is fading that someday I will wake to find this problem has gone but at least there is some hope still within me. Take care my dizzy friends and may we all recover from this hell in 2015 x

I've been referred to CFS after 6 months of various symptoms. I wondered if anyone has problems when looking at a computer screen. I've been back at work full time for a couple of months but I still get headaches and dizziness after I look at a computer screen for a few hours. Unfortunately, my work means im looking at a computer a lot. I've had my eyes checked out - i use VDU glasses but the dizziness and headaches continue. Its not a symptom i've seen mentioned before.

What is wrong with my head?
For the last month how I feel has just become worse (today being the worst I have ever felt) everyday I feel like I am going to pass out, vision goes blurry and feels like the room goes dark and closes in. I feel weak and constantly fatigued. I have pressure in my head and nearly everyday have woken up with a very bad headache, I am now getting stabbing like pains in my head (it feels as if a knife is being dragged at the top of my head) pressure in my temples. My head feels as though there is fizzing in it.
My muscles feel weak and achy my legs feel like I have been doing a workout down the gym, my eyes are very heavy and sore.
I have tingling sensations through mainly my left arm (like pins and needles) I have vomited a few times.
A few times I have had pains in my chest (like pressure and shooting pains) and have had to take deep breathes to try get it to stop.
When I bend down my head feels like it is going to explode and my vision is very disturbed, I have had to hold on tight to stop myself from falling at times.
I have no energy and just cannot carry on like this.
Just now I have had a fizzing feeling at the front of my head (left side of forehead, feels a little like something is crawling inside my head).
Any insight would be appreciated.

I started these pressure headache on top of the head and my one ear felt like was close also i feel weird sounds in my ear ( not always). The head pressure was soo much that i feel dizzy and felt that i would fall off.
I did CT sinus , MRI cervical , MRI head and all these test came clear so the neurologist told me that it's basically your anxiety as you have panic attack in which i feel pain in my chest , shortness of breath and constant muscle pain.
The most important factor here is that i have IBS for the past 2 years now which is high enough for me.
The doctor has given me Seroxat 12.5 mg ( paroxetine hydrochloride) which i have been take for the past 6 days but this medicine is not helping and in fact when i take it i feel that headache has grown more with shortness of breath and stomach upset and tremor in my hand or shall i say fingers but ve but the doctor is saying that it's not the reaction , its normal thing and you would adjust it in 2 weeks.

I have had this problem for two or three years now. I get this feeling that comes over me like a flu type headache with feelings of dizziness. The strangest feeling of all is the swooshing sound that I get when I do something as simple as move my eyes.My GP has tried various tablets such as stemetil but nothing works except a long sleep and usually that clears the problem. It is really debilitating and I worry as I have to drive a lot and although I have never had any problems as such, I often feel so bad that I just want to pull over and stop. I also get a feeling of dread or depression coming over me when these bouts come on.

Headaches, cold sweaty feet, inner tremors in legs, anxiety, dizziness, "clogged" feeling in ears, lightheadedness...
When i counted how much iron I probably got from the food yesterday, it was around 2-4 mg, which of most is not absorbed correctly as iron I guess?

Yesterday me and my friend were riding bike we were crossing and she crossed before me. When I went to go this lady cut me off with her car almost hitting me in the process. I started to ride and I think i may have passed out while riding because I remember my head hitting the concrete but it didn't hurt. I heard people yelling and my friend calling my name. I think I blacked out for a few seconds. I then stood up like nothing was wrong muttering I was fine. That's all I really remember for the next few minutes. I was told some lady was asking me my name but I wasn't really responding. My friend called her father and my mom. My mom was on her way to work she stopped by and I refuse to go to the hospital. I remember my mom leaving and my friends dad holding me against his chest. They took me to her house and I passed out on the sofa. Apparently I was shaking and I had half an eye open twitching while I was sleeping. My friends dad wanted to take me to the hospital but I convinced them I was fine. Now a day later I'm starting to worry because my symptoms include extreme headache loss of memory, passing out, dizziness extreme sweating in a cool environment, trouble falling asleep, but once asleep trouble waking up trouble moving my neck and head. My mom is the type to not worry about this thing she's convinced it's just a concussion, but I've done my research and I'm a little bit worried .

I am a fit, healthy 28 year old guy who has spontaneously developed severe high blood pressure, temporal pressure headaches, dizzy spells and blocked ears. The symptoms vary, with acute periods lasting a couple hours and occurring on a weekly basis. Generally an acute period is characterized by severe headaches, needing to lie down, blocked ears and extreme lethargy.
I have had CT’s and MRI’s of the brain and cervical spine, PET scans, ECHO’s, a multitude of blood tests and various other tests with no abnormalities.
I gym 4 times a week, eat healthy and work as a hairdresser, so my lifestyle is pretty healthy overall.
This condition is starting to limit my lifestyle and with two years of no answers I am putting it out there for someone to recognize or provide advice about what could potentially be going on!
