May 9, 2016
Having this tightness like a metal band round my upper abdomen (just under the ribs) with a feeling of "something" stuffed behind my breastbone, also breathless at times, and whole stomach can be hugely distended and hard, tightness and pain in the back sometimes too, some burping

On Feb. 17, 2014, I had lap band surgery & in the process, surgeon removed a hiatal hernia. I have had no problems at the incision site, but intense pain in my diaphragm, left side, and up my left shoulder..between my collarbone and top of breast. Pain moves across my chest, but the worst in on left side. At 2 week checkup, I was told my diaphragm was irritated and it would go away. I take 4 Advil per day at his suggestion, and nothing seems to help, but lying flat. What is causing my pain & how can it be relieved? Also, I get hiccups several times per day.

could anxiety cause such symptoms?

I'm 29, mostly healthy, unfortunately I'm a cigarette smoker but I am a hypochondriac and suffer from bad anxiety. The past 6 weeks have been tough. I just recently got off Xanax after 5 weeks of daily use for panic attacks and sleep. I was taking about .25 to .5 a night. Quit last Tuesday only withdrawal symptoms was insomnia and a little night sweats. Head feels a lot clearer and I feel better. I'm now taking lexapro which I've now been on for 3 weeks. I do feel it's helping a bit and I also up the dosage from 5mg to 10mg. I'm taking trazodone for sleep also. But In the past 2 weeks I have been getting some chest cramping. Tightness in the center of my breasts, little pains here and there but I can't figure out if it's heartburn, acid indigestion, or what it can be. I know anxiety can give u tightness in the chest which I have felt many times but the cramping and tightness freaks me out! The hypochondriac part of me keeps thinking I'm having lung issues or heart issues. It's like if it ain't one thing it's another with me. And I hate it. Does anyone have anything like that from meds? I need some reassurance. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow to make sure it's just from the meds.

I'm 60, had asthma for just over 3 years, which started after a persistent bout of bronchitis. I take Seretide twice daily. I try to run regularly when I'm able, but I'm never quite sure how I should respond at the onset of normal cold symptoms. Once I have any degree of cold infection, I regularly experience chest tightness and discomfort immediately, almost before any cold symptoms have established. I'm not really sure what the best strategy is to get rid of the chest tightness, prevent the cold developing and enable me to continue exercising. I try increasing my inhaler dose, take extra vitC, etc but without great success. I'd really value hearing how others deal with this, is it just a case of putting up with it, or should I be able to nip it in the bud?

I had bilateral mastectomies ten years ago. I first had reconstruction with implants a year and a half after the mastectomies, and then I had the implants removed (they felt tight and uncomfortable) and DIEP reconstruction (where they used my abdominal tissue and fat for reconstruction) about two years after the initial mastectomies.
Now, ten years later, I experience chest tightness when I run. It is very uncomfortable, and I have trouble catching my breath. It feels like the muscles tighten up as I run. When I slow down and walk, the sensation abates. I even saw a cardiologist because of this uncomfortable chest tightening sensation with exercise.
Is this related to the intitial breast implant surgery, where the surgeon placed the implants under the muscle tissue?
How can I know if I am having cardiac symptoms vs. muscle tightness due to all the chest muscle and tissue manipulation after the mastectomies?

My 13 year old son had a cardiac ablation in late Nov 13, after being diagnosed with supraventricular re entrant tachycardia.
He suffers from continuous single ectopic beats which don't give him symptoms so he can deal with them even if they are a nuisance.
The problem is he has a few other symptoms - 3 or 4 ectopic beats at a time which can make him breathless - no flips or flutters but chest tightness, shortness of breath and throat pain during exertion- short of breath without any other symptom - and now last wed an episode of very strong palpitations which lasted for about 15 secs but were very painful and in his own words made him feel weird, he felt a surge through his body, (maybe a change in blood pressure?) Anyone had any of these post ablation? Also he ectopic beats flip and flops seem to get worse upon exertion

I went on holiday to morocco for 5 days (3.5 hr flight).
Since the flight my band has felt very tight. 4 days into the holiday I got a really saw chest, it's got really saw and my breathing is slightly wheezy.
I rang my weight loss support and they have booked me in for tomorrow but Ive been reading all sorts about it being a sign of a slippage. I'm absolutely terrified it's a slippage!!!
Has anyone had problems with tight chests?

I am 24 years old, female. For the past year now, I have been noticing significant changes with my body. Up until a year ago, I was always very skinny, flat stomach and clear skin. For a year now, I have been gaining weight (I have gained about 4 kg during this time without changing my diet whatsoever, I weigh 57 kg, my normal weight before was around 53 kg) and my stomach and lower belly have increased in size, resulting in a protruding abdomen. It does not seem to matter if I eat a lot or if I do not eat, my stomach does not flatten down. The amount of exercise I do has been the same since I left school (not a lot). During this time, I have also been developing small red spots all over my face and chest. These spots are slightly itchy sometimes but not most of the time, some I have noticed when i squeeze they have a little water inside. They come and go every day, I use moisturizers which calm the spots down a bit but they always come back again in the space of a few hours. I do not use makeup often so it cannot be allergies to products. Neither the fast weight gain or the spots have been symptoms that I have experienced before. But both developed at the same time which makes me think they are connected. My bowel movement is normal, I go toilet every day or every other day max. I have noticed increased need to pee more often during the day as well as night sometimes, but nothing I would say unusual. I feel no pain in my abdomen. I do suffer from depression and feel fatigue and insomnia often. I have had UTIs, Meningitis and Sinusitis. I have a cold every 2 months exactly which is annoying but no doctor has given help. My mother suffers from thyroid, could this be inherited and showing signs on me now? I have done blood tests a year ago and all was normal. My doctors always say I am healthy and its not likely this will change because i am young... I would really appreciate if someone could help me figure out what is happening with me. Should I be worried or not? And if I should go back to the doctor and ask again?

Just to put it bluntly I am 35 years old and honestly I feel like I am 95 and just waiting to take my last breath. This is so crazy that a disease such as acid reflux can make you feel this way. My symptoms to name a few, I can't breathe, I have chest pain, I have the heart palps, I have the heart flutters, I have the chest tightness. The first thing I think of is THIS HAS GOT TO BE MY HEART! But no its the thing called gerd! I quit drinking, I quit smoking, I quit all of the stuff that I loved, and it is still here.

I should preface this with the fact that I've had my braces on for close to half a year and I just started having this problem a few days ago. My braces create an meme sting metallic taste in my mouth. It has been nonstop since around three days ago. I made an appointment today to see my orthodontist and I was told that no bands were loose (most of the bad taste, as much as I can tell, comes from the metal brackets that are banded around my teeth) and nothing was found.
I got some mints but the relief is only temporary to the metal taste.

I'm 33. Happened during wrestling. What kind of break is this? How long before I can start walking? How long before the screws / metal removed?
Aren't those screws sticking out the other side of the bone? Is that not a problem?

I was wondering if anyone has had a metal stent placement to treat SOD level one at all. I have posted here in the past as I have gone through 5 ERCP since my gallbladder removal summer of 2013. 3 of the 5 had a single plastic stent placement which all worked until the stent either passed on its own, or was removed by my GI doc. The other 2 times I had multiple stents placed intended to stretch the duct open in hopes of staying that way when these were removed. Obviously it didn't stay open as I relapse into the same set of symptoms that I hope to alleviate......stinging pain where the GB was, bloated all the time, the feeling of a softball lodged into the R abdomen, and pain in the back and R shoulder blade. GI doc (who is well respected here at the Univ. of MN) says that the only options left for me are a botox injection, or metal stent. Any opinions out there? Status quo being stent-less right now is not how I want to live the rest of my life. I am 52 and feel way too young to concede this whole thing.

A C/T of the thorax, done because of shortness of breath, showed the right diaphragm and liver situated in the chest cavity. Other tests of the thorax and abdomen, including a PET SCAN, have not shown any reason for this.
What can be the reason for the elevation of the diaphragm and liver?

I have recently been told that my diaphragm is not working properly and this could be the cause of my constant chest infections. Does anyone else have this problem?

Somebody said to me the other day that the metal in a knee replacement will be detected by security, so you have to have a letter from your doctor/surgeon. Does anybody know about/have experience of this please?
