Pleurisy - Chesty Cough And Stabbing Pain

can any 1 help me, im a 23yr old female and have had flu like symptoms for last 4 days, high temp congested nose and dry cough, but now this cough has turned into a chesty cough and everytime i cough i am getting a stabbing pain in my chest, have not been drs yet as it's weekend and don't want to waste any 1s time, not sure if this is a bad luck or related to symptoms above but i'm also experiencing terrible pain in my lower right abdomen groin into my back, kidney pain, can this be related to the flu like symptoms or something totally different.

I've been on azathioprine for Approx 6 weeks and the last 2 weeks have been hell. My knees feel like they've been shot i'm not sleeping in the nights always have a headache cold sores chesty cough sinus trouble.

I have just been diagnosed with pleurisy yesterday after an horrendous weekend of stabbing pains, in my ribs and back, but not particularly in my chest. It came on suddenly last thursday night in bed without any warning and was accompanied by fever symptoms similar to flu ie boiling hot one minute and freezing the next. I had flu about 6 weeks ago, got rid of it and it recurred again in the shape of a chesty cough which causes a crushing feeling in my chest and ribs. The doctor prescribed me strong antibiotics and was told to take paracetamol for the pain which has shifted all over my ribs and back, not staying in one place. He also ruled out a water infection whilst I was there. I still have a fever and can't do much more than rest as I'm tired much of the time but manage to keep my pain down to a minimum by dosing up with codeine/paracetamol every four hours, even managing to get some sleep last night. I hope this info helps someone else in the same predicament.

I have had diabetes for several years now. I have nerve pain in my feet that is usually not too bad and comes and goes. Lately, my left ankle feels like there is a hair being dragged across causing a tickling feeling. Tonight, my right ankle has this sharp stabbing pain in it that has almost caused me to fall while walking. I have medicine for the nerve pain but don't like the side effects so I quit taking it. Could the stuff going on with my ankles be due to diabetes?

I have had the typical sciatica for years on and off nothing debilitating so I am familiar w/the pain in the buttocks and moved down the leg etc but this is different so if anyone has had this please let me know I'm so confused...a month ago I actually went to ER w/pain behind my thigh that felt like I was being stabbed...then it would stop and come back 10-12 seconds later lasting about 2-3 seconds and VERY painful did this consistently for 6 hrs and disappeared as fast as it came! GONE for 1 month until this past Sat started again altho not as constant ..until the past hr I have had it every 30 seconds and I cannot fig out what causes it ...or what it is ..the ER gave me Valium and my reg Dr said take magnesium altho my levels were within range. I almost feels like I was tasered or stabbed (have really never experienced either but seems like that's what it would feel like) so do you think this could be sciatica?

I was diagnosed back in May 2014 with diverticular disease because I had a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen but recently I have had a pain in my lower right abdomen and am waiting to go for another colonoscopy. has anyone else experienced this with diverticular disease as the doctor doesn't think the pain is caused by my diverticular am worried as it feels like a stabbing pain.

Secondly, I'm here because I'm concerned about chest pain I've been having for the past 3 days, even though my PCP examined me and sent me home with instructions to get rest, fluids, and take extra iron tabs for the next couple days (I appeared anemic but my level was in the normal range).
So when the pain began it was sharp stabbing accompanied by hot flashes and nausea and lightheadedness. Since then, it has been a consistent, sometimes worse sometimes better, feeling like someone is pressing on or squeezing my chest, and today the pain was radiating into my left arm, and both hands were tingling. I also have off and on indigestion, lightheadedness, and constantly feel like I CAN'T BREATHE despite no congestion or any cold symptoms or anything.
The other thing is, I've been absolutely exhausted since this began. Like, I can barely walk to the bathroom and back. And have taken 5 hour naps every day since Thursday and otherwise have barely left the couch.
I just don't think I can go on like this another day, but I don't know what else to do! My resting EKG was normal. Although my PCP did say I would benefit from an echo because I have a preexisting diastolic murmur.

Hello I have tarsal tunnel syndrome which was diagnosed by a nerve conduction test. I go back to see my foot and ankle surgeon in three weeks
Does anyone else have this syndrome? If so how was it treated. So far all i know is mine is caused by bruising and possibly a fracture of an old injury.
The stabbing pain i get is at times is unbearable lasts only for a few seconds its like someone has stabbed me in the foot with a hot sharp blade and electrocuted at the same time. Also have tingling in my feet muscle spasms leading up to my knee all the time but more noticeable with online in bed at night.

I had pleurisy in December, started with pain in my right shoulder blade and my right rib. Six weeks on I am still suffering with extreme pain, I have had a chest Xray and all is clear but the pain hasn't got any easier. I am constantly out of breath and very tired all the time. The pain is still constant around my right shoulder blade and across my back and also under my armpit. I have been for an MRI Scan today to see if that shows anything but I have to wait another 2 weeks for the results. Its just nice to know I'm not the only one suffering

I have had ongoing pain for the past 2 months, worse when breathing in on the right side of my chest. My doctor has diagnosed pleurisy and said it should resolve on its own. I have now developed a very sore collarbone on the opposite (left) side. Could these two symptoms be related? I have health anxiety and am convinced I have terminal breast cancer....silly I know!

i got pleurisy through having flu, which was diagnosed last friday. i was given antibiotics. i only went to the doctors because i'd had the flu for two weeks, i only had a sharp pain in my back. i've nearly finished the antibiotics but the pain has got a lot worse around my back, neck and tummy i wonder how long this will last. i am taking ibuprofen but it's not doing much.

I was just recently diagnosed with pleurisy after spending hours running through every test imaginable. I am also pregnant, 7 months, with my second child. I have never felt a pain like this before. The pain is in my right chest and back; at first I was tested for gallbladder problems and that came out clear. I was sent to the ER for further testing where they did extensive blood work ups, chest x-ray, tested for reflux and finally a cat scan. When everything came back clear, they diagnosed it as pleurisy and sent me home with a pain killer. Unfortunately, the pain got worse and I was readmitted to the ER by my OB for more testing. Again everything was clear, this time they were given the green light to give me ibuprofen but only for 3 days with a follow up visit to my OB on day 3 to make sure the baby was alright. So far, the ibuprofen is helping considerably. I hope I never have to suffer through this again. I found the information provided here about pleurisy very helpful especially since I had never even heard of it before this happened.

History. About 3 months ago I started coughing really bad. Mostly getting out in the cold and talking or laughing triggered it. After 2 visits to the doctor, was told I had adult onset asthma. Went on albuterol inhaler. Within a few days, was coughing green (sorry to be gross, but you get the picture now!) and was very congested. Went back. Now I had asthma, ear infections, sinus infections, bronchitis. Antibiotic, decongestant and antihistamine were prescribed. Next the breathing symptoms got much worse. Short of breath a lot. Went back. Now I received a nebulizer, a new antibiotic and steroid for the severe asthma. Breathing got worse. Now chest x-rays and new antibiotic and new steroid.
Fast forward 3 months. Coughing is better. I'm not on an medications now. But I have this very sharp pain in the left side of my chest, just beneath the breast. While it doesn't hurt to breath, it is VERY painful to cough and sneeze. Turning a certain way or lifting something feels deadly. Also, I cannot lie down flat. Somehow lying down makes this pain so much worse.

Before I start I'll just state that I'm 19 years old, slim and generally healthy. I've been suffering with a cough for 3 weeks now, and it only seems to be getting worse. It is a constant violent cough, dry, but wet if that makes sense? I cough up clear mucus. It seems worse at night, I can't lie down without having a coughing fit and the pain in my throat and my ribs is unbearable I also have awful pains in my upper back, and weird shooting nerve pains in my arms. I've been to the doctors twice, first time he listened to my heart and lungs said they were clear and said I had Costochondritis which is causing my pain. Didn't say anything about my cough. So I went back to see a different doctor, by now I was also having pains in my left leg and googling this and as always it comes up with the worst case scenario... Blood clots which got me really worked up. She told me I didn't have blood clots, just by feeling my leg and saying it was soft, and said I have acid reflux which is causing my cough and all the other symptoms. I still can't stop worrying that my cough is something much worse and I have been misdiagnosed and there is something wrong with my lungs I also keep worrying about the pain in my leg, which is getting worse... I feel as if it was just brushed off but when I read online about others who ended up having blood clots their symptoms were just like mine and I'm so scared of this happening to me
I realise I have really bad health anxiety, but it makes it worse that I haven't even had proper tests or anything done to rule out the worst things!
I'm finding it so hard to deal with this, I feel like this anxiety is taking over my life Thanks to anyone who reads this essay of a post, I feel I just needed it off my chest.

I am at the end of a cold (2 weeks)and I have a bad chesty cough. I'm up in the night like a cat with a furball.
I saw my doctor who advised to use honey and lemonade, and Vicks vapour rub, but said to stop using the covonia chesty cough syrup, as it suppresses the cough.
Is that correct ? I always believe it contained ingredients to help break down the congestion.

A week ago, i was playing soccer for about an hour. Seconds afterwards, I felt an uncomfortable feeling in my testicles. The next day was the same uncomfortable feeling. The pain wasn't too bad until exactly 6 days later when i woke up in bed and found that the pain was beyond what i could handle. Out of 10 i would describe this pain as a solid 8 and half. Anytime i stand up or sit down it feels like i've just been kicked there.Everytime i cough and sneeze the pain is excrutiatingly bad in my testacles and just above them in my groin. anytime i tense my core (abdomen) i get the same feeling of being kicked in the balls. I have searched google and what makes most sense so far is the theory of the testicular muscles extending up towards the stomach or abdomen being too short. Please if anyone knows anything of how this can be treated, let me know.

reading the effects of above on other guests. I just wanted to confirm that I was put on 2.5mg ramipril last year , having suffered from Coughs for 3 months, asked my GP to change the drug ( as my mother had suffered 2 years before it was diagnosed and the doctor changed her ramipril, what a nightmare it was) and I was put on 25 mg Losartan, However I must admit I am having aches and pains in my legs and my right arm and have been going to Physio every couple of months , assuming it was age related ( male 65).
I noted that one of the guests used candesartan so i will take it up with my GP next time I go and see him. many thanks for everyone's comments. I hope that the GP's are reading these columns too.

I am having deadly pain in my right chest below breast, while i cough,sniff. I had a cough two weeks ago. I check up for doctors , i did x-ray and video x-ray it shows everything normal. Doctor gave me pain killer and ask me to take until i feel ok. He suggested me to do physiotherapy.and also suggested me to take rest. I can't sleep laying backside down. i can't even move things using right hand. When i cough or sniff i have a deadly pain. Doctor said that the muscles between the ribs have problem. I am worried about it. It is effecting my daily life.

I've been suffering from these for some time and they've recently become worse. I also had migraine headaches in my youth and now occasionally have silent migraines - aura, but no headache. I've recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I understand that this type of headache is common with fibro. I wondered if others have suffered from this and what, if any, medication has been tried.
