Oxycodone With Alcohol - Effects?
Mar 4, 2015
Doctors found a clot in my carotid artery. This caused a few minor stokes, presumably 5 they tell me, called TIA's. These strokes caused 1 gran mal seizure and another seizure where I was doing the funky chicken for 1 1/2 hours, very scary. They gave me an immediate carotid endarterectomy, scraping the plaque out of my artery, 3 to 7% chance I may have died!! Mending well, but I still have pre- seizure spasms? I'm on 225mg of lamotrigine twice a day. The strokes and seizures caused numbness and pain in my left hip, taking oxycodone for pain. Doc also giving me 5mg zopiclone to mellow me,taken around noon every day, also take 5mg at night along with 30mg of mirtazapine for sleep Does anyone know the interactions if I have a few beer. If anyone has tried alcohol taking theses meds, what was their reaction.

I have a friend who has been taking oxycodone 5/325 3 a day for about 2 years without issues for severe back pain.
Recently he has had a big problem with muscle strength/weakness exercise intolerance and fatigue. He has been to physical therapy with no improvement.
Could this be from using the medication for so long, has anyone experienced such a thing.
He has been tested for MS,ALS and is now seeing a Neuromuscular specialists.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

After several years of on-off depression and anxiety I finally decided to try medication.
I started on 50mg Sertraline about 8 weeks ago. After a few days of horrible physical side effects I started to feel great. But in the last week I have started to feel not-so-great again. This could be due to a week away where I consumed a fair bit of alcohol and cannabis (after being very sensible since starting the Sertraline).
I'm thinking of asking my doctor to up the dose to 100mg.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced Sertraline "wearing off" after a few months, or being affected by alcohol?

I was wondering what kind of effects that alcohol has on your body if you have had your spleen removed. Can you still drink alcohol without your spleen?

I get a feeling that something is standing right in the middle of my chest, sometimes i catch myself involuntarily reach to my chest with my hand like i'm wiping something of the middle of my chest. It almost feels like there is a bloon in the middle of my chest and it is getting ready to explode. And my breathing is very difficult like i am smothering. i have to keep taking in deep breaths to get that feeling of satisfaction that i am breathing. Sometimes i catch myself staring at anything while the thoughts are racing through my mind, thoughts of death or trying to figure out what is wrong with me. There is profound weakness in my limbs Severe shortness of breath, tunnel vision, numb/tingling in the arms.
i looked down at my hand and it was jerking involuntarily. And sometimes i get thoughts that if someone was to notice or ask me what is wrong i feel that i will lose my mind. So i try my best to hide it. I have noticed that while driving in a car it can become unbearable. Alos i get a feeling of pressure in my skull like my brain is going to explode. Last Night all i wanted to do was go to sleep and wake up feeling better but every time i tried to sleep i would wake not breathing gasping for air. At one point i felt hopeless and that i would fall on my face dead. I believe this to be withdraw from all the drinking that i have been doing. I was in the er a few days ago for this and my bp was high and heart racing. At times is feels as if i am going to lose all control of my body and i will go in to convulsions at any moment. The breathing thing started as a young kidd. Im not to good at explaing this so i did my best. My heart goes out to all the people that goes through this.

I had an interesting experience during the 8 weeks I was untreated and misdiagnosed for PMR a year ago. I am a light drinker, but after 4 weeks of debilitating pain in more joints than not, I decided to go out on Cinco de Mayo (Mexican celebration) and try to numb my pain. From 6 pm to 10 pm I consumed the equivalent of 8 oz. of tequila, 4 straight, 4 in margaritas, with mexican food. Came home, still in pain, went to bed. Awoke @ 4 am, no longer significantly intoxicated, got up, and walked around with NO pain. The reduction in inflammation lasted till late the next afternoon. This temporary reduction in pain and inflammation pushed me to search harder for a remedy. I had lost hope. Please check my bio for additional info, if you like. I have since found additional data that alcohol users have significantly reduced rates of Rheumatoid. I do not suggest alcohol as a remedy, but I have no idea what the mechanism was that suppressed my inflammation. Could this be a path or clue to mitigation of PMR outside of prednisone?? Anyone have any similar experiences? Was it the alcohol, and or maybe the agave (source plant for tequila)?? It was not drunkenness, there was a definite repression of inflammation. I did not try it again, as I don't like to drink that much. Lower doses (2-3 oz.) did not have the same effect.

I'm now in my 2nd week and am pleased as to how its working, have just had 2 glass wine in 2 weeks, amazing compared to previous 90+ per week units. I m surprised that it has worked so well to the extent that i never think about alcohol and can easily sit with other people drinking and i have lemonade. I see a bottle of alcohol as just that, a bottle, nothing else, no craving. However i am concerned about the side effects I take my nalmefene at the same time each day approx 6 p.m - after an hour it kicks in and i can be asleep or drowsy or 'strange' for a few hours What i want to ask is do people have numb feelings in the upper parts of arms ? I have it mostly on the left hand side and some numbness down side of body, i m sure this is just part of the drugs ingredients doing something but its like a grasping numbness for a few hours - ironically a bit like when really hungover. I also know that you can drink when taking nalmefene / that's the idea but for the next 5 weeks i m staying abstinent before a holiday and will take it and a few drinks per day then. But numb arms ? kind of worrying and not sure if this will be ongoing True what they say that first week of getting used to nalmefene is the worst ...

I was probably one of the first people around the UK ( well England ) to be prescribed Selincro by my GP earlier this year.
I have gone through all the usual issues identified when starting to take this drug and got through the difficult period to settle down into a lifestyle of being more in control of my drinking and only taking the tablet 2 -3 times a week on those days I am likely to have a drink. Recently I have taken a tablet just because it was Friday and there maybe a chance that I have a drink , even though I didn't fancy a drink at the time or went to have a drink and didn't enjoy it so left it at one. So it can be said that everything has been a success.
Not quite though ! You see I want to be able to have a couple of days when I do enjoy a drink. Whether it be at home with my wife or out with friends. The problem is that although the side effects of the drug have greatly subsided when I do take a tablet ( Infrequently now ) I still feel strange., cold clammy forehead, slight nausea and some light headedness ( best way I can describe it) plus it seems to increase my tinnitus. There are other things difficult to describe also. I guess that if I then went on to enjoy the rest of the evening I could accept that but I increasingly find that I would be better off not drinking at all. Now that would be great for those people who have been recommended total abstinence but it was never my intention and my GP was supportive of that. The intention was just to cut down the amount of alcohol intake and to have alcohol free days.
So I am at a crossroads now. To continue as I am or stop the Selincro. From what I have read and been told, once you start it should be for life. ( Mind I was not aware of that when I commenced on the treatment ) I understand that if I was to stop my brain would readjust and a desire for alcohol reward would increase. All I want is to be well enough to enjoy a drink a couple of nights a week.
I know it is still early days in the UK but has there been any research into those considered as having a ' mild dependence on alcohol ' who commenced Selincro with success and then went onto to try and manage their drinking without the drug.
In my case I feel I have broken the habit of having drink everyday , even though my wife continues to have a drink and there is alcohol in the house. I don't want to go back to drinking 60 - 80 units per week but at the same time I am unhappy with my present situation.

Yesterday afternoon I had a d&c to remove a possible uterine fibroid the size of a golf ball. I was prescribed Percocet (oxycodone form) for pain. It's working, but is also keeping me wide awake. Is there any OTC sleep medication I can take while taking oxycodone that will help me get the sleep I need?

I am concerned about getting addicted to these oxycodone. I had back surgery and was told to take 1 to 2 pills every 4 to 6 hours. I am a recovering alcoholic also. I take 1 pill every 6 hours for the past month and in my mind I know when its been 6 hours. I have been reading a few of these posts about people on these oxycodone. I feel like I am hooked on these things already and I do not need that problem. It sounds like these are bad news. I still have back pain and need a painkiller. So my question is am I just paranoid by reading all the other posts or should I ask my doctor for another pain killer and get off these now?

And with all my cardiac meds I am only allowed paracetamol (acetaminophen) last month I visited my GP again for my very painful feet, I get Rx for a temporary low dosage oxycodone but every time I take it I get awful nightmares. I also have other side effects from this like mild nausea but the nightmares are the worst. Anyone had this?

Fourteen surgeries, three major spinal in past year ...so yeah, I am struggling with the opioids. Last left hospital in September on a mix of about 350 mg oxycodone or contin.
I have two more surgeries ahead of me in the new year. But in the meantime I have become convinced that the oxycodone/contin is actually causing me pain. I have no idea how I am going to face the next surgeries but I CANNOT keep going on this particular road.
So I have weaned myself down to 65 mg per day. Even so I am so jumpy, legs restless, stomach cramping ....it reminds me of quitting smoking (I was a 2-packer) except this is ten times worse. I am craving food but cannot eat. I am tapering another 10 mg every 4 days. Is this a good idea or would it be better to just STOP?
I am 63, retired and have a sweet supportive husband who wants to be helpful but does not understand. When he quit smoking he just stopped and did not miss a beat so he really does not have a clue what I am going through now. My health, aside from all the orthopaedic issues is good.
I've read some of the "recipes" on other sites for easing withdrawal but don't even know if I could get some of that stuff where I am (Canada).
I am starting to ramble but God bless you for listening. Also, any idea how I am going to handle the pain of surgeries in spring?

I am possibly thinking of paying for a private home detox. They have suggested it will be using valium as opposed to Librium. I was just wondering if anyone else on here had been through one?

So, I have always completely and utterly believed that these are the exact same pill with just a different name on the label. However, I have a prescription for 15mg Roxicodone (I have spinal stenosis with a lot of intense pain from nerve damage) and for the first time the pharmacy gave me the generic (oxycodone). I have, in the past, before this diagnosis, never noticed a difference when taking the medication. All of a sudden for the past few days they are not working for pain. I am also aware that you build up tolerances for opiates. This does not seem to be like a usual "up in tolerance" due to the fact that a) I doubled the dose without it working either (I am also aware that it is not wise to take your prescription in any way other than the way the Dr. prescribed) b) I can feel pretty much the usual "high" effects. I am wondering if anybody who has genuinely taken these pills for pain has ever noticed a difference in the two and their abilities to control pain? Also, which one has acetaminophen and could that be the problem? I politely ask that nobody respond warning me about the risks of narcotics use please. I am well aware of the risks. I am highly concerned about my current level of pain consistency and the fact that my medication does not seem to be working.

Long story short, I have two autoimmune diseases and I have death with chronic pain for about two years now. My doctor has me on 20MG oxycodone one every 6 hours. For the last month or so i have been taking two pills three times a day. So 2/20mg 3 times a day.
So when my doctor gives me 120 for a month it doesn't last and he know that I Have been using more for the unbearable pain. How do i Go about telling him that I can't keep staying at the dose he has prescribed because I am not getting any relief. I don't drink or do drugs and I have a bright future if I can keep my pain manageable. I am just concerned about what to say to my doctor without him thinking I am an abuser or him just prescribing the dose he has been prescribing that isn't working unless I double up.
How would you go about this?
Also, what is the maximum amount of oxycodone one can take in a day I find that a lot of my nasty pain comes from breakthrough pain.

I have been suffering from chronic pain since 2008 after I had my daughter, which triggered a downward spiral of health and pain. I currently have a laundry list of problems from rheumatoid arthritis, nerve damage in both hands, spinal stenosis, bulging disc, spondylosis from L1-L5 and both of my knee cartilage is "going out". My GP had tried me on any and all NSAIDS and that left me most of the time in the hospital for uncontrollable vomiting and severe abdominal pains. Steroids left me feeling like my head was spinning out of control. Finally my GP put me on hydrocodone 10/500, which at the time took the edge off the pain to where I could function and take care of my disabled daughter and family. After a while the pain started to get to out of control and the lortab was not cutting it so my orthopedic surgeon put me on oxycodone 20mg and somas 325 mg, 4x daily. WOW....I was able, to get myself out of bed and take care of my daughter, clean my house (a little at a time), cook, actually go grocery shopping and enjoy getting out all without my husband or family member helping or doing it for me. I have not been able to feel like a normal person in a long time and it felt better than the person I had became because of the chronic pain. So after 3 months of oxycodone, I go into my regular appointment and see signs everywhere stating (among with a couple other prescriptions) my doctor could no longer prescribe oxycodone. A few patients did not test positive for their meds and were caught selling them. So I was put on percocet 10/325, even though it's still oxycodone with acetaminophen I feel like I am back to taking hydrocodone 10 mg again, back to barely being able to handle the daily things I need to do. So after my long spell I have an appointment coming up in a week and was wanting to know if anyone has any knowledge or experience with something that is equal to oxycodone or something better? There has to be something else that can get a handle on my pain and if my OS can't prescribe oxycodone for me then I need to know what else is out there.
