So my main issue when dealing with my PTSD is the really vivid terrifying nightmares. I was controlling them for a while with trazodone, which I will admit I did not have a prescription for and received from a friend, but as I really don't feel like becoming addicted to medications, I've stopped taking it for the time being. Most of the other symptoms of my PTSD have so far not affected my day to day life but I cannot get a good night's sleep to save my life right and I was wondering if there was any type of meditation or something that you might recommend? I don't have the time or money right now to see a therapist or trauma expert.

I've been having magnesium baths for a while (epsom salts). I do get anxiety and not only do the baths calm me, it really helps with a good night sleep, aching muscles but the next morning helps with going to the loo too!
it is thought to be a natural detox too, help rid of toxins from your body (deodorant chemicals etc)
I buy a 25kg bag as its significantly cheaper but you can get smaller bags just to try.
i have 3 a week and add about 300-400g per bath and submerge as much of my body as i can for at least 20mins.
magnesium is a natural mineral which our body needs. You can make a drink with it apparently which is a VERY effective laxative (I haven't done this)

I have not had a good night sleep in over 20 years. I am female 45 years old. I have had pains in my body and also have night sweats. Where I have been only just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in Aug 2014 and also
I know I am not going through my Menopause, I just can't get a good night sleep. I don't like to take meds but have tried in the past and also have tried herbal remedies. I also have tried with having a bath before going to bed, as well as having a milky drink before going to sleep.
I have also had CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) which helps with mindfulness and breathing techniques but just can't get my sleep.

I posted in epilepsy earlier. I couldn't find the sleep boards. I am suspicious I have epilepsy but I wanted to see if anyone else has experience with this. I have severe sleep myoclonus that occurs every night all night. It causes me and jerk and I usually see a flash of light and hear a clicking sound. This occurs over and over so I hardly ever sleep. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I find it really hard to sleep at night, It almost like my body is exhausted but my brain won't shut off.
I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and one of the symptoms is insomnia. I can't sleep at night but when i finally get to sleep and my brain has shut down when it comes to getting up in the morning for work, I can't. I sleep through alarms, people could be screaming down my ear, world war 3 could be happening and i wouldn't wake up.

So my whole life i have lived with my grandma and grandpa. A year ago my grandad died. Since then my grandma has been feeling very sad and lonely. I never had this problem with sleeping until the past 4-5 months, where i just stay up until 4-6 AM even though i go to bed around 12o'clock. I just play video games and in the weekends i go out with my friends and party. I am a student in college and me not being able to sleep at nights is preventing me to attend properly in School, I just skip classes more and more even though i want to do good. When i look at the big picture i just find it so depressing, this life i'm having even though I don't think i suffer from depression. I'm just unable to sleep at nights, this is a major problem to me. I don't know now what i should do, move to my mom in England?

i can not sleep without sleeping tablets, I worried about being depended on them. When I was first found out I had depression I had not slept through the night for 4 weeks. I always had 8 hours straight all my life. I would wake up 5 times a night. I went away in December and the doctor gave me sleeping tablets as the time zone change of 7 hours really effect me. When I was away I run out of sleeping tablets and brought over the counter ones. Since being back I have taken them and have slept through, but last night I didn't take them as I wanted to see if my body was getting back to normal or if it's the tablets. I woke up 5 times last night. I feel I need sleep and without tablets I'm not. I need them to be able to get through work as I struggle more without sleep, and im struggling with sleep as it is. I don't want to have to rely on them, but don't know what to do?

I'm 52 and have no history of sleep problems. In fact I generally sleep through anything. That is until seven weeks ago today. I went to bed as usual, but didn't get to sleep till about four in the morning. The same thing happened the next night and the next etc etc. sometimes I'll go to sleep quickly but wake up a couple of hours later- just for a bit of variation ha, ha. The thing is, I'm pretty certain what caused this, but it makes me sound a bit pathetic. There's a woman at work who I've become quite friendly with. Just friends I must stress and she has given no indication that it is anything more. Anyway, I had a week off work and the night before my first day back I started to get butterflies in my stomach and realised I was excited about seeing this woman the next day. That's the first night I didn't sleep. I became quite infatuated for a couple of weeks, but that intensity seems to be waning now. However, I'm still left with the insomnia. I must stress that this type of schoolboy crush is completely out of character. She has a partner an so do I - 20 years now I wouldn't want to do anything to ruin it.

I'm lucky to get 3 hours of sleep even with taking ambien. I've tried every natural supplement there is. Within the past 3 weeks I wake up at 3am no matter what time I go to bed like clockwork.
Feels like a shot of adrenaline or cortisol at that time. Even though I'm exhausted my mind will not shutdown.

I've been on antidepressants for my mental health but I've not been able to sleep, there are days I can sleep 2-3 hours but then there are days I am unable to sleep at all. I've tried relaxing before bed, warm milk, clearing my mind before bed, having a bath etc but those aren't helping. I don't want to take sleeping tablets due to my other medication. Has anyone got any advice or tips to help me just a little. I've had trouble sleeping for 6+ years.

I don't have any problem falling asleep, the longest it takes if 20 minutes sometimes. But I ONLY sleep for 5 hours, maybe 6 if I'm lucky. So I try to make myself stay up until 11pm so I can get up at my normal time of 5am. This is very hard because I will usually fall asleep in front of the tv around 9/930.I get up from the couch around 1030/11 and go to my bed, but then wake up at 3 am like clockwork. Last night I fell asleep in front of the tv at 930, got into my bed at 1030, but then woke up at 230! I usually can't fall back asleep either, or maybe dose in and out if I'm lucky. My mind is already awake then.I tried Melatonin years ago, and it worked for the first couple of days to a week. But then I built up a resistance to it and I had to keep increasing the dosage until it didn't help at all anymore.I have gone through different prescribed meds that didn't really work. The one that worked the best(Trazodone) had a side effect that I didn't like(woke up with an extremely dry mouth), and I built up a resistance to that too. I just wanted to see if there were any other meds out there, OTC or prescription, that may work?
