i had a knee replacement 9 years ago and still have problems with swelling and pain. my Doctor says there's nothing wrong with it. i find it hard to walk and dance, i was a dance teacher and now i can't work. would like to hear from anyone else that has the same trouble.

View 3 RepliesThere seems to be a lot of posts for total knee replacements but haven't seen many for a partial. Has anyone had a partial knee done and how are you getting on. Three months after mine was done for a second time I still experience some discomfort and swelling bordering on pain, wondering if this is normal after this amount of time.

View 2 RepliesI had a partial knee replacement 8 weeks ago n the medial side. The first month or so pain was tolerable, I figured it was healing pain. Since then the pain has become increasingly worse. I had talk to the doc twice and was told that if it does not look infected not to worry pain is a normal part of recovery. My next follow up is this week. I still go to pt 3 x week, they say it is healing great looks great and pain is normal. So my question is how much pain is normal. I feel like it is pinching below and to the side of the replacement. Today my knee completely gave away and scared me. Has any experienced this and does it sound normal.

View 15 RepliesI am three weeks post op having had a full knee replacement. My recovery is going well and I'm not using crutches or a walking stick but am still in a lot of pain and having to take painkillers. My question is I have developed loose bowels only once a day at my normal time but it has been going on for over a week now, I have no bloating or abdominal pain with it. I can only take paracetamol as I'm allergic to codeine and Nurofen I felt might be causing the upset stomach but I haven't taken them for nearly a week now. Has anybody else suffered diarrhoea after a TKR?

Not feeling too bad at the moment night time being the worst with the leg in one place and when the painkillers wear off .As it is difficult to get any sleep.
A certain feeling of deja vu but it will be worth it in the end.
I had a TKR on 18 Feb, so I am about ten weeks in, the pain is still bad, it's a sharp stinging pain, not what I imagined at all. IS it normal to get this much pain, this far in ?
I am 5 weeks post opp of TKR, am doing ok but a question to you all, this morning i had the worst pain since my opp, as i was sat and tried to turn, this pain like a stabbing pain came on ,at the outside of my tkr knee, i couldn't bend or straighten it for a abit till the pain eased off. has anyone else had this or any one no what it could be, similar pain has been there since the start but no way as bad , just thought the pain was part of the recovery.
View 44 RepliesSo I dislocated my knee in January of this year. I was given a device that isolates my knee cap and hold it in place. I wore the device off and on over the year whenever my knee would feel sort of irregular. I worked out routinely to help strengthen my knee, it helped the pain somewhat, but mostly just made me feel better about the way I looked, and kept me healthy. I haven't worked out since some time before Thanksgiving. Starting this week i've started to feel this new akward feeling behind my kneecap, sort of like the ligament behind my knee cap is tightening, sort of similar to how it felt when I dislocated my knee, but not exactly the same. I get the pain after fully bending my knee, for example when I am on my knees doing my job stocking shelves at work, when I stand to my feet I can usually feel the pain. I try doing a couple of different stretches when to make the feeling go away a bit, but it comes back, and then it eventually goes away again.
My knee "pops" (makes a loud popping noise and pressure) pretty regularly now but when I get off of work and off of my knees I experience the discomfort much less. I want to start exercising again on Monday, but I am scared I might dislocate again. I will try using the knee cap device again tomorrow, but I feel as though whenever I use the device, it makes my knee feel like jello the next day, and make me want to use the device again, even though I was advised by my doctor that I should not need to use it regularly. ....
hi I seem to have woken up this morning with what looks like an indent on the right side of my new knee. It was completely round last night but now has a dent in it. I am nearly 21 weeks post TKR. Anyone had anything similar and why this is?

View 2 RepliesIt's day 5 I'm home and in a fair bit of discomfort! Main problem is at night and knowing what sleeping position to get into? I want to lie on my side but not sure this is ok ( about the only question I didn't ask physiotherapist ) also finding I'm very tearful today and extremely tired is this normal?
View 23 RepliesI am 42 yrs old and had a Partial Knee Replacement done on Jan 6th...outpatient...went to first PT the next morning. Wasn't too bad...2nd was a little rougher and I was in more pain. 3rd visit had a different therapist and she pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for. She basically forced bended my knee and forced straighten it..said it's to keep scar tissues from interfering with recovery...this was extremely painful. I am curious to if this is normal protocol on your 3rd visit of PT..which was 7 days post op...I was in soo much pain I could not go to my next PT. Plus I have bruising on my ankle from her force bending with her body weight...I figured I would go back on Monday when my normal Therapist will be there....I have made progress with bending and straightening and don't think I should be rushed like that...I am still in alot of pain but am able to walk around house without crutches. I have been icing and elevating along with doing my homework PT.
View 13 RepliesI am a 31 year old female about to have a TKR due to severe arthritis caused by PVNS. Currently I have very weak quads and calves in my bad knee from major loss of knee extension. I've heard that it's really hard to go into replacement surgery with weak muscles. I was wondering if I should get a knee brace for after surgery to help with some support until I get my strength back? Has anyone tried these webbing braces and if so do they help? I know some of the immobilizing braces actually cause atrophy.

View 38 RepliesI am 6 months after TKR stopped medication not working still in pain i am told by the physio all my exercises are excellent however can't stop the pain. Today cut the support stockings and tried it on my knee stopped pain all day until i took it off. I am wondering if anyone has tried a knee brace or has anyone been told not to use one
View 38 RepliesI've had a thr April 2015 and was recovering well then both knees went and I was back in Crutches again. I had an arthroscopy and it was found I need the knee caps have to be repaired as i'm bone on bone. Has anyone had this procedure? Im also lined up for the other hip to be replaced as well. Im 53 and a bit worried.
View 8 RepliesMy 8 year old son was diagnosed with Perthes last July and we were advised by his doctor to minimise weight bearing so we did the usual things - crutches, Wheelchair and such!
The perthes was caught at the very first stage and the diagnosis at his last visit was good and that my son should only use one crutch now!
However he is in alot more pain during the day and at night he wakes up in pain.
I have been refereed to Stanmore now but my question is is the pain due to the weight bearing and should all his pain be in his knee as his knee is swollen still from first diagnosis.
Is the knee swelling normal!
And do perthes sufferers usually have problems with wetting?
Day five almost on the books...I have done all my exercises and walked several times...even outside. my question for those of you with THR experience... when walking, did you feel a bit uneven? Is this normal? Is it from swelling?
