Herniated Disc - Weakness - Lack Of Vitamin D Symptoms?
May 11, 2015
I am seeing a chiropractor for a herniated disc in my lower back that has healed now and just strengthening my core muscles..... i saw him today and told him im getting sharp pains in both feet and calves, and back.... sometimes like a weakness tingling pain... its nothing to do with my back and he said it could be low vit D.... i did have a test a month ago and it was on a low level but doctor says its normal this time of year.... yet 2 years ago i had hardly any vit D and had to have a very high dose.

First time on these boards and hoping to find some answers. I had really bad backache start suddenly 7 months ago. Visited an osteopath who diagnosed herniated disc (result of a very bad car accident 35 years ago - I was shocked to say the least). Osteo told me to go to GP incase surgery is needed in future, GP said even consultant would not have diagnosed HD without a scan so referred me to physio. Physio said it's degenerative something or other, possibly result of car crash and/or being 55. I was terrified it was cancer or similar so was relieved. Anyway, exercises don't help but walking and stretching does. Once I get comfortable in bed or sitting down the pain goes. My back does crack a lot now as I stand up after bending down (feeding the cat, picking up clothes etc). I am on Naproxen 500 (can I only take it twice a day?) and co-codamol which helps but I am in constant pain. I have had a lot of time off work due to a bereavement and back appointments and don't want to go back to GP without a better idea of what's wrong - does anyone share my symptoms? Thanks for reading this.

Had a disectomy 2 years ago on l3 l4 and worked wonders on my sciatica however lower back pain is always there. 2 years on I have a herniated disc at l4/l5. I have been off work for 8 weeks now and walk with a stick. I am going back to work on Monday for 2 hours to see how I go. I'm on tramadol naproxen paracetamol but still not finding any relief. I have had PT and didn't help. I am now being referred to the hospital pain management clinic in June. I can walk 15 mins with a stick before excruciating pain in my leg and back. I feel I have no life and this will never end.

Is there a connection between a herniated and bulging disk (both lumbar)and problems with urination and unexplained weight loss? I have an appt. with my doc concerning these issues, but was curious to know what you think.

I have been getting pain for a couple month in my lower back, but it's only been very mild pain. I started getting the pain after very heavy deadlifts at the gym, then the pain has been sporadic for that time.
I went for sprints on Sunday morning and then afterwards my lower back was really in pain. I felt sick and dizzy in the evening for about 2 mins, then it quickly passed. However, since Sunday I have been experiencing mild abdominal pains in the mid abdomen area (near the belly button) and my bowel movement has changed as i haven't been going as regularly the last few days.
I am just curious as I haven't been to the doctors yet. I wanted to go and see the best doctor at my surgery, but unfortunately he isn't available until next tuesday. If it gets worse then I will definitely make an appointment with another doctor, but at the moment it isn't giving me too much problems, just the mild pain is all.
Has anyone experienced this before and could it be a slipped disc that is causing the stomach pain and lack of bowel movement? I had no problems before Sunday when I think I further injured my back.

My arms and legs feel tired/weak/exhausted for the past month and 2 weeks. Feels like as if I did a gym session or been out in town all day/night and legs feel like they want to drop. I am also tense and have been diagnosed with anxiety a year back. It scares me a lot too and i want to feel normal again.
I went to a neurosurgeon and couldn't find anything wrong with my whole spine after checking the MRI. Just mild disc degeneration.
He thinks it may be anxiety. I've just moved countries, and no job and haven't been doing anything for months on end, and just been lazing about, no exercise and eating not too healthy, smoking, and drinking 4 coffees a day. I have been stressed out lately and I feel I need to have a diagnosis. Is it anxiety/stress related? Is it muscle atrophy? (due to me lazing about and doing nothing for 3 months)
I've been to 3 different neurosurgeons with all similar answers, Been doing physio on my lower back, and been exercising every day for the past 2 weeks. Been taking no medication (which I don't want to).
Can anyone relate with me? Or have an idea? or which specialists I should visit?

Symptoms I been having. ..
*Weakness in arms and legs
*Pain in both legs and arm, worse when walking/working
Also in my feet.
* Frequent bladder
*Random muscle twitching all over the body, especially feet
*Eye sight slightly worse (need glasses now)
A doctor I saw was just at a regular clinic and he did blood work and it came back fine beside that my Vit D level was at 7 which he had the nurse call me and immediately gave a prescription over the phone for V2 vitamin 10,000unit pills and been working on that. Anybody know if my symptoms sound like a legit cause of the vitamin d deficiency? Could it really cause pain and muscle twitching?

I have been experiencing the lower back pain which is local from last 5 years. My MRI reports says that there is a central disc bulge at l5/s1. Where outer annular tear is intact.
I have seen a chiropractor who has recommended spinal disc decompression sessions on Hill DT.
As per the doctor, it will relocate the disc back to its normal position and make the disc healthier as before.
Just would like to know if someone has gone for the similar treatment for the similar problem. If yes kindly share your experience.

I don't have any diseases or conditions now im 23 in good shape work out.

I'm just wondering if anyone who has or has had a vitamin A deficiency has also had dry mouth as a symptom?
I know that vitamin A deficiency can cause dry eyes, and I'm reading from a few sources that a deficiency causes 'dryness of the mucosal membranes'. I've had dry mouth for quite a while now and I wanted to find out whether this particular deficiency may have contributed to it (if i have it in the first place).

Fatigue, weakness and pale skin may be the first signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency. You may notice cracked lips or a ringing in the ears, and you might experience a loss of appetite or an altered sense of taste that causes food to taste funny or odd. Alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation are common, and some people may become dizzy when standing up. Fever or abdominal pain may also be present.
Mental Effects
A vitamin B12 deficiency can cause an altered mental state in severe cases. Advanced stages of a severe vitamin B12 deficiency can cause a state of confusion. Mild to moderate depression is a common symptom, but severe depression can also be the result of a deficiency.
Other Symptoms
According to Harvard Medical Publications, other symptoms may include a tingling sensation in the hands or feet, a stinging or burning sensation on the tongue, a bright red tongue, significant weight loss, yellowing of the skin and a rapid heart rate. It can also cause you to feel off balance or disoriented, which may worsen in darkness. Some people may lose the ability to tell the colors yellow and blue apart. You may be unable to feel vibrations in your feet or legs. Anemia may develop ..

Has anyone diagnosed with Vitamin D3 deficiency?
I got the results now and mine is 4! Incredibly low...
This may explain some of the symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia although, certainly, not all of them. Any testimonials?

I have nearly all symptoms of a bad parathyroid. I am changing doctors as I am not pleased with his responses. My parathyroid hormones have been high for two years+. My calcium level stays at 10-10.4, with anything over 10.5 being considered high. Do I just go to a surgeon or what do I do? With sudden symptoms beginning over two years ago, I feel it is a bad parathyroid. In my last blood work, my VIT D was even LOW, which I understand can also be a symptom.

Is there a difference between disc displacement and dislocation? I see those terms being used around here a lot and was wondering if one indicates whether a disc could be recaptured and whether a disc is not reducing?

Hi all, before xmas my back started to get sore but i thought with 2 weeks rest during the holiday it would get better. Day before i was due to go back to work it was really bad. I went to the osteopath and it felt like he had fixed it so i was pleased. Few days after i started to get pains from the top of my buttock all the way down my leg into my foot, I then realized that i had sciatica. The pain is really nasty and i get pins and needles in some of my foot and calf. It has stopped me walking properly and i limp about. Week ago i had an MRI scan and it revealed that one of the discs is trapping the nerve. I have good and bad days but i cant walk properly and pain killers really help. I went back to the doctor today and he thinks from the results of the scan i should arrange to have surgery as it hasn't improved over 8 weeks. I really don't want to go to hospital as it seems extreme and i haven't tried any of the other options.

I had a disc prolapse in january this year(08 ).i just thought i had severe back pain as i usually did have back pain.on the 2nd of january i went to hospital as the pain got so severe,i couldn't walk and the pain was in my left leg.the hospital gave me a pain killer told me it was siatica and sent me home.two days later my pain was unbearable so i went back to hospital who yet again examined me and told me to have accupuncture and was sent home.On the 23rd january i stood up and had lost control of my bladder the pain was so horrific i decided to go to a different hospital.when i arrived they examined me and told me i was to have an mri scan.where they tried to lay me in the mri scanner but could not so transferred me to a different hospital.at the hospital they took 4 hour to do my mri because i was in so much pain i could not lie on my back.when they finally did an mri they could see that my disc had broken off and was on my spinal cord,i had an emergancy operation and was told if i had left it another 24 hours i would never have walked again.i wish the first hospital would have examined me properly in the first instance.i never had suffered so much pain in my life i was in agony.i had the op and now 11 months on i'm still recovering but at least i can walk.
