General Blurriness - Vitreous Detachment
Feb 26, 2015
I had a recent episode of flashes (left eye), so I went to the doctor and he did a thorough exam, and concluded that I was experiencing vitreous detachment (I'm 67). He explained that the flashes would soon stop, which they have. I only use reading glasses, but I've noticed some deterioration in my distance vision so I asked him about some correction. He gave me some contact lenses to try. The other day, I put them in, and I noticed that my left eye seemed worse with the contact lens in, so I took it out and just wore the right one. Now, I am more aware of some vision impairment (general blurriness) in my left eye for both reading and distance.

Interested in hearing people's symptoms and experiences with this. I had pvd of the left eye and sure enough 6 months later, right eye. Having problems dealing with it. When both eyes are affected, hard not to think of it 24/7. Would like to hear others stories.

Last Wednesday I got hit with a soccer ball in the eye very hard from probably 2 feet in front of me. All I could see was grey, nothing else in that eye. I went to the ER where they diagnosed me of a hyphema. They then put me on drops to dilate and bring down my in-ocular eye pressure. It's been 3 days since then and I almost have my vision back with a little bit of blurriness. And the only thing that is concerning me now is the floaters.
1. Will they go away? Or will I "Get used to them?"
2. Can they go away completely?
3. Will the blurriness go away?

For the last two weeks my left eye has been blurry. I don't remember hitting it or scratching it. Sometimes a do rub my eyes but nothing has come of it before. In the last two weeks I've noticed the blurry vision for objects mostly far away. My 20/20 vision is now a lot worse when I close my right eye. There has been no pain or itchiness either. Today in class the blurriness was bothering me quite a bit, so I started playing around with the skin around my eye moving it left and right. I noticed if I moved it the right way(closer to my nose) my vision would clear up. Then I tried squinting hard with both eyes(right is closed, left is slightly open) and my vision was clear.

My eye doctor saw something strange about my retina so she sent to a retinal specialist. After a 3 hour thorough exam he stated to me that sometime ago I had a detached retina and since I didn't notice, it healed itself. He stated that this do not happen often when a retina will heal itself. I have some damage but nothing very serious. There is a tiny blind spot when I look up but that is all. I feel very blessed that it healed because this should blinded me. Does anyone know if this has happened to anyone they know? I do have to be seen by the specialist every 6 weeks for a while. But considering the alternative...I have been blessed.

My friend had retinal detachment after a hand stroke a year ago. First, his sight was 70%, then it came to 5%. few days ago now he had operation, and his vision is 20% now. Please, what are the methods for regenerating the photoreceptors and can something be done after such a long time?

I am not diagnosed as of yet. I do know that I have a chiari malformation 1. About 7-8 days ago I started noticing some visual changes in my left eye. I do notice intermittent pain/ pressure to my left eye and forehead. The best way I can describe the visual changes are as an ocular migraine- everything looks really bright, some blurriness, flashing lights, and the black letters on the bright white screen of my phone look a little dull- however these symptoms come and go over the day, they are not constant. I do notice that the symptoms come on with activity, bright lights/colors, heat. I did have a sinus infection 2 weeks ago and continue with the sinus pressure. I saw my eye doctor who completed a dilated eye exam and said all was normal. Has anyone else had these symptoms with optic neuritis? These symptoms are very concerning to me- didn't feel the eye doctor took me very serious.

my mother's age is 42, she had phacoemulsification last 5 years ago one right eye. on 15th January 2016 suddenly got whiteness in eye during cooking, after checkup from ophthalmologist he told the retina detached, we had a retina surgery using silicon oil but unfortunately the some amount of oil came out in inferior, that was removed after a month during the month she can see only 1 meter distance, when doctor dripped out silicon the cornea was swelled and once again another surgery was done after 7 days, now she can not see anything except a light is blinking in right corner of eye and sometime a blue sky color in eye, there is no different in eyes are open or closed. Is this possible that she can see again we are very upset because another eye is already dead since last 10 years. Or is there any possibility that we can change retina.

I have my 1st retinal detachment surgery 3 month ago with Scleral buckle and inject gas in my left eye. After the surgery sometime i see a dark spot on the upper right corner, which usually comes and goes. One time it appear and didn't go away but the dark area grow bigger and it has detach again (2 month after the 1st surgery) and i have my 2nd surgery 3 weeks ago with vitrectomy and silicone oil inject.
A couple of days ago i notice a dark spot (on and off) on the upper right corner of my left eye (same spot that the retinal re-detach).
2 days ago a notice a big dark area (2/5 of the vision field) on the upper center of my vision field. Sometime it was so dark i couldn't see my finger when i move it up to this area. But with outside day light i am able to see through a little bit (but still darker than other area).
I went to see my doctor immediately and he said the retinal look flat and alright in that dark area. He said there is a spot where the retina isn't completely re-attached yet but it is in the lower left side corner. I went to see another doctor and he said the same thing. And they all said the oil is clear.
But i haven't check with ultrasound yet.
I am still worry sick. Is it possible for the retinal to re-detach again with silicon oil still inside?
It is possible for the retinal to re-detach but Ophthalmoscopy doesn't pick it up?

Do you really not remember anything after it. I think that would be cool. Will I feel really tired after though. When will I have energy to do things later. Anything other things I will feel I would like to know ya. How long will these feelings last though. I really want to know when I can drink water after getting it done. It will be cool if someone can tell me about it.

Ok I'm 19 years old and I think my health is good. Anyways, my gag reflex started one day after I was eating and I just looked at the food I was eating and suddenly didn't want it. At first it was just when I would brush my teeth and after using mouthwash, I would usually cough and heave or spit out water. And now I have noticed that after I eat, I can feel my gag reflex. Like I can feel that there is food stuck there (it's probably not, but I can feel something nasty there), and one time I touched my throat (outside neck area) and I wanted to vomit. Now I have an issue sometimes with the front of my shirt collar touching my neck area, because I feel suffocated and it makes the food feeling even worse.
I do salt gargling sometimes, but I still have it! Any help? I also get stomach aches more frequently now (I have gotten 3 so far in these past months and have thrown up.)

My partner will be going in for minor surgery in a few weeks and was offered the choice of local or general anaesthesia for the op - she opted for general. Slight predicament, we are trying to keep it quiet. My question is, is it difficult to hide the fact that you've just had a general anaesthetic?

I am 4 months into my third depression in 30 years and this time along with all the usual symptoms there is a really debilitating problem with doing anything. This is not just demotivation but it feels physical. I will try and explain each activity is made up of individual movements so making a cup of tea involves standing up, walking to the kitchen, picking up the kettle, walking to the tap, turning the tap on, etc, etc. Well, each time one movement ends I have great difficulty moving onto the next one. There appears to be a block which takes huge amounts of willpower to overcome only to be back there again after the next movement. Often I will get so far and then give up. It has got to the point when I can spend all day unable to motivate myself to do anything because things just seem so pointless and hard work. Going to work at the moment is impossible and I am off sick but I now worry about how on earth I am going to go back. I have just been forcing myself until a couple of weeks back when I just gave up and rang in sick. After the initial relief that I could rest, the guilt kicked in and what I'd hoped would be rest is now anxiety riddled. Does anyone have any idea what on earth this troublesome symptom is? It feels like there is lubrication missing in my brain as if it's seized up. It's really horrible.

So just wondering if you ladies are having boys and if you are going to get them circumcised or not.
My husband and I are both 100% on board to have our son done. However when the topic is brought up some people act so surprised. Personally I don't care what others think ... just wondering what the general feel is on this board.

I just had what I think it was a depression episode. I spend around 20 minutes laying on a bed with my eyes open thinking negatively about everything, it was pretty scary. What should I do when that happens? How can I stop it?
I am 19 years old and I am in college, preparing to go to a university in spring. I think I suffer from anxiety but I have been trying to stop it. I don't take any medicine.

After my mom passed away I was having trouble sleeping and having tightening in my chest at night when I was alone (I was generally fine out amongst others and at work). My doc prescribed xanax xr, which I took for about a year and a half with no real issues, but I didn't want to feel sedate at work, since I write for a living and have to be "on top of my game." So, I asked if I could switch to regular xanax, just for the home panic attacks, since I never really had anxiety at work. I usually have a drink or two at home after work and never take the xanax when leaving the house. Well, I finished the extended release and started with regular and have passed out on the couch twice in a row. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED, BEFORE. Should I be concerned, or will I build a tolerance?
