View 1 RepliesOn October 24, 2013 I had rotator cuff surgery. 3 weeks later I was in the ER with shortness of breath. I have right hemidiaphragm paralysis from the interscalene block. Has anyone else had this happen? I am now seeing a pulmonologist.

View 1 RepliesAm wondering if anyone that has had shots in the lower back become numb or paralyzed from the waist down?
Two weeks after getting these shots I became paralyzed from waist down with daily headache and other problems. My pain dr. Put together a team of doctors who were able with strong medications to get my feeling back in my legs. They ran all kinds of tests that showed masse on liver, kidney, lung and large mass on thyroid.Blood sugar was 140 and then 61.Noone told me anything, they just told me I could go home with meds and appointments for tomorrow and the 31st.
This has been happening to me for several months. It doesn't matter if I am up and active or sitting down doing nothing. It starts at my shoulders and goes all the way down both of my arms. They are numb. No pain or tingling but I cannot use them or move them until this passes. Usually 1 to 2 minutes. Any Ideas?
View 2 RepliesSo a quick back story - I got BP when I was 33 weeks pregnant - they took my daughter early at 37 weeks hoping it would help with recovery... I'm now 4 weeks out from having my daughter... totaling BP to 8 weeks.
I have paralysis on the right side - no smile, taste, nose, eye, eyebrow movement.. but lately, my mouth (when I'm not smiling) seems to have less droop.. and my eye isn't quite as big as it was. So it looks like I have improvement... but still have total paralysis... is this normal>? Has anyone had this? I feel like if my mouth is starting to have less droop that my smile would start to return too.. but it hasn't at all.
I've also been told that I can't start counting how many weeks I've had BP until after the baby... does anyone know if this has any truth to it?
I've been ill for over 12 months, with chronic pain, numbness, paralysis, loss of mobility, fatigue, bladder, bowel problems, Total collapse falling to floor, shaking, tremors, head nodding, slurring, drooling, speech problems sleep problems
Had ct, Mri, evoked potentials, numerous blood tests, all clear , now it appears according to neurologist that this is all down to vit d deficiency? It's 12 have got 40000 iu to take once a week and been told to go to gp as he no longer needs to see me ?
My Son is now 21 yrs of age and has been battling with perthes since the age of 5yrs. He has bilateral perthes. the left leg was the first and this was treated with non weight bearing, callipers and restricted activity and is now near normal, at the age of 8 it appeared in his right hip which he had a surgery ( varus osteotomy) with further surgery to remove plate and pins. He still struggled with pain and had hinged abduction and leg discrepancy. He was then given a valgus osteotomy as a salvage operation and further surgery to remove plate and pins at the age of 14. He struggled on through school still in pain. He has now grown to 6 ft and this has produced more problems as his thigh muscles do not work probably due to the position of the femur that the valgus placed it in. The ball of the femur is mushroom shaped and the main pain is directed through the knee which gives way unpredictably causing him to fall. He has been told by a specialist that he is too young for a hip replacement and to grin and bear with pain management for as long as he can. He has been able to do office work part time, but even this is painful do to the sitting position. His left leg does give him trouble from time to time. Nobody actually follows perthes up into adulthood as once you reach 18yrs you are discharged from the children's hospital and left to the care of your GP. There should be a call back system for check ups even if it was to help doctors to understand the disease. I don't know if surgery benefitted my son or if treatment with callipers was better, all I know was I could not bear to put him back in them for another 3 years and did what I thought was right at the time. Has anybody around this age experiencing similar problems ?
View 4 RepliesBackground: I am 66 years old and have suffered first attack in mid November 2015... I have been fairly active person and have done some triathlon in the past, so not being able to get out of the bed on my own was pretty shocking to me... It took about one month to diagnose PMR and I started medication (prednisone) at 15 mg/day mid December.
If there is an interest, I would like to post about the progress in recovery, with special attention to exercise. I am seeing specialist every 2 weeks and complete blood work is done to monitor inflammation caused by PMR.
I would like to post what I have done thus far and future progress in (hopefully) successful recovery.
I have bilateral frozen shoulder - idiopathic. Several professionals have stated my left is "severely affected". Right is manageable and seems to be on recovery but full ROM is not there yet. Ortho is considering MUA with a scope to clip any scar tissue on the left. I'm wondering what is the true pain level of this surgery? How soon after were you to "functioning"? I have 3 kids (9, 6 and 3).

View 2 RepliesI have sjogren's and systemic sclerodermatitis. I have been told to do some exercises as these may help stretch connective tissues and alleviate some stiffness in scleroderma. With sjogren's, i just feel exhausted most of the time and I wonder if doing some exercises could help or aggravate my exhaustion. Is there anyone out there who could point out to me what exercises best suit me?
View 18 RepliesI am 29. I have squint from birth. I squint my right eye occasionally to focus far objects. I can see the near objects without squinting. I have 100% vision in both my eyes. In my childhood I had my one eye patched to strengthen the muscles. Also I had some eye therapy. Since I was a child I did not take the therapy seriously. So I still squint. I was thinking of getting a surgery to correct this. Now after reading these comments I have decided against getting a surgery and search the internet for some eye exercise.
View 1 RepliesMy 24 year old son was diagnosed with TMJ Arthritis and the surgeon wants to do a bilateral TMJ joint replacement. That seems extreme to me. I would like to know if anyone has had a jaw joint replacement and if you have had jaw problems post surgery.
View 13 RepliesI had a microdiscectomy, L5-S1 on March 24th of this year. My recovery was terrible at first, possibly due to my waiting 5 months to have the surgery after 17 injections! Anyways, I was in fantastic shape before my injury. I would run a few days a week and do body strengthening exercises at home. At my 6 week checkup, my Dr. said basically all I can do is walk and swim. No squats, no crunches, no lunges. I don't have a pool or gym membership and I live in a state where it's getting to be unbearable to be outside! I'm getting depressed about my body. The pain meds have made me much lazier (and for a long time, hungrier!) although I am only taking them at night now. I have a pretty strict vegetarian, mostly vegan diet and I go to school for Dietetics so I know how to eat healthy, however I have gained a few pounds, although people tell me I look like I've lost weight. I don't feel comfortable in my clothes or own body for that matter. All of my lean muscle is gone and I feel squishy. It's bathing suit season here soon and I don't want to hide out all summer because of my insecurities. I just can't seem to get out of this sort of funk. I want to be able to be active and motivated again, it just seems like its taking forever! On another note, I am an exotic dancer. I have been dancing for 12 years now, I'm pretty sure that's how I ended up in this mess as I was very hard on my body, doing crazy upside down pole tricks and so on my Dr. gave me the ok to go back to work, but I am NOT allowed to do any of those moves I used to do, no tricks, no sudden twisting movements, no extreme bending. I have worked one shift so far, took it extremely easy and feel ok (although my legs were very sore the next day). I guess I'm going off here, but does anyone have any suggestions about any exercises I can't think of that I would be allowed to do? Can anyone relate to what I'm going through, or have any kind of advice at all? I feel so alone, and NO ONE understands the excruciating pain I've endured, sleepless nights and feeling so awful that I had wished at times I would not wake up. I already take antidepressants and benzodiazepines I am NOT willing to mess around with higher dosages (I plan to get off them after I graduate).
View 3 RepliesI have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and am worried and confused. Are there exercises I should do? I am not on medicine but I understand that there are some that should be considered. Which ones are best for the early stage of the disease.
View 4 Repliesi thought I would share info. First 2-3 weeks, barely sleep. Pains as opposed
to aches, lost 15 lbs and my taste for food. No appetite. And exhausted.
approaching 6 weeks Tuesday and not as tired, doing constant PT in office and home.. Slowly getting appetite back, sleep somewhat better. Pain has migrated to itching and aches. Let's not forget stiffness in AM or after idle.
I can walk it off a bit, but never really without that dull ache feeling. I have good ROM. Stretching helps. I am 71, but in great shape. Two knees is not for the faint heart or out of shape. Glad to answer any questions. The recovery is slow, but one can see it come, "ever so slowly". I am physically ahead, but one must let all the tissue and nerves recover..reading other experiences is a bit of a comfort. Not alone.
7 years ago i woke with tremendous pain in my neck. Took 5 years and many doctors before first MRI. MRI showed bilateral cervical ribs. Tests were performed which suggested TOS. From 1 specialist to the next, I have now been told to basically go home and live in pain. They won't perform the surgery because they told me 60% of patients are worse off. Have to live in this horrible pain forever. Lost in the system
