Difference Between Zocor And Zetia?
Aug 3, 2014
I’ve had problems with high cholesterol for years, but it wasn’t causing me any major issues until recently when I had to be hospitalized because one of my arteries was almost completely clogged. I’m waiting for the stent placement surgery and in the meantime I was given two medications that are supposed to lower my cholesterol: Zocor and Zetia.
Ever since I started taking them I feel more tired than usual and the nurse said that is relatively common side effect from Zocor, but I’m not really sure what is the difference between Zocor and Zetia and do i need both of them to lower my cholesterol?

I was prescribed Zetia after my regular physical showed I have borderline high cholesterol and Zetia was supposed to bring it back down to normal range. However, that did not happen at all, in fact during the time I was on Zetia I had either the same cholesterol results or even an increase.
Now my physician wants to switch me to statin medication Zocor and to be honest I’m reluctant to start taking it mainly because all the experiences and warnings about statin side effects. Would an increased dose of Zetia be enough to prevent my physician from switching me to Zocor?

I’m 52 year old male and I’ve considered myself to be pretty much healthy overall, never really needed to see my physician, but I had to get a general check up for work and the bloodwork showed my bad cholesterol levels were in high range. I was immediately given prescription for Zocor (generic simvastatin)
Despite feeling like I had a worst flu ever, with bone and muscle aches for the few months I was on Zocor, my cholesterol went down enough for me not to have to take Zocor anymore. But, my doctor is prescribing me different cholesterol lowering medication, Zetia and will it cause the same side effects as Zocor?

I’ve been on Zocor (generic simvastatin) for years now and my cardiologist finally thinks it’s OK to lower my dosage from 80 mg to 60 and then hopefully 40 mg of Zocor. He probably wouldn’t have started tapering me down if it wasn’t for pretty bad side effects I was having from Zocor, including headaches, constant tiredness and pretty much feeling worn down for more than two years.
But, together with lowering my Zocor, he also added Zetia as another medication for lowering cholesterol and I’m wondering is it safe to take it at the same time with Zocor, given all the side effects I have?

I was prescribed Zocor for high cholesterol I have for years. Before Zocor I was on Tricor and it didn’t help to lower my cholesterol at all, so my cardiologist switched me to statin because I was under a very realistic risk of having a heart attack. My cholesterol numbers did went a bit down, but it seems like they haven't gone down enough since at my last checkup my cardiologist added Zetia to my treatment with Zocor and Lisinopril I have to take for hypertension.
What worries me though is will Zetia make Zocor side effects worse and is this a good choice when there are other statin medications out there?

I’m male, 42 years old and I’ve been having genetic problem with high levels of bad, LDL high cholesterol, in ranges between 250-270 over period of two years. The first statin medication I was prescribed was Crestor. It took me almost a year to convince my doctor that muscle and joint pain I’m experiencing because of Crestor are ruining my life completely.
So he took me off statins for a short period, just three months, and together with dietary changes, my LDL cholesterol levels were around 250. I was having a completely normal and healthy sex life. Then my doctor decided my levels are still too high and that I need another statin - Zocor (simvastatin) and for the past six months I’ve been on Zocor, I’ve been having extreme erectile dysfunction.

Even though I was aware of potential side effects statin medications might cause, mainly them causing muscle and joint pain, I had little choice but to start taking Zocor after I had heart attack. At that point, my bad cholesterol levels were through the roof and it’s still uncertain if I’ll have to have coronary artery stents placed or not.
Ever since I started Zocor I feel more tired than I ever was in my life. I have a feeling I could sleep all day, with barely any motivation to do anything. Could this tiredness be another side effect of statins?

I’m female, 52 and due to my high cholesterol levels and family history of coronary disease, my physician had me start taking Zocor (simvastatin). I’ve been on this medication for almost six months now and from the last month I’ve been starting to lose more and more hair. When I asked my doctor is Zocor causing this, he completely denied that was possible and instead sent me to various hormonal tests. They all were in normal ranges.
After this I decided to take the matter into my own hands and continue with healthy diet, exercise and no Zocor (but I do use red rice supplement instead) and finally my hair is not falling off any more.

after I had TIA stroke, or mini-stroke 3 years ago I’ve been on Plavix, together with Zocor (I’m taking the generic simvastatin since last year). Even though I’ve completely changed my eating habits and I try to be as active as possible, I seem to be gaining weight constantly. I’m now some 20 lbs heavier compared to when I had the stroke.
Is it possible that Zocor is contributing to my weight gain? And if that’s the case what can I do about it?

My mom, now 65 years old, started experiencing problems with frequent urination and pain during urination. At first she thought it was just UTI and her doctor gave her antibiotics. However, it’s been 3 weeks after she finished her antibiotics and she still says she has problems with urination.
The only other medication she is taking for high cholesterol is Zocor and she’s been on it for years now, but is it possible that Zocor is causing my mom’s issues?

I'm a 27 year old woman and I've recently developed an extremely itchy rash on my back and hives- only on left side. At first i thought it was hives but usually when j get hives they are whitish but these are more red and some have a scabby surface. I haven't had any "pain" or burning but the itching is bad enough to where I can't sleep. This is around the 6th day with them. I will post a picture of what they looked like the first day vs now.

Just recently, after considering myself to be pretty healthy person, I was shocked when my doctor told me that my regular yearly blood tests showed that my bad cholesterol levels were way too high. He immediately prescribed me simvastatin, together with insisting I make even more dietary changes and start to exercise (which is a bit of a problem due to my bad back).
Simvastatin caused me to feel sick for weeks, I was barely able to work and I insisted to be switched to different medication. Now I’m on Lipitor, and if anyone could explain me what are the major differences between simvastatin and Lipitor?

New or kind of new to the shingles "party." Actually since last year have been having outbreaks, and thought it was hives. Now I'm realizing it is really shingles now, and maybe before hives? Have had eczema off and on since 1 year old. So, not new to skin issues!
Question: is shooting pain a hallmark symptom of shingles. Although I believe have a rather mild case, there have been times that I get very sharp shooting pains in my forearms where I do have an intensely red rash. So bad that I can't hold a book or phone. Have to wait for them to subside.
Is shingles easy to diagnose, and what exactly distinguishes hives from shingles. If I do a google image search on both, they look virtually identical. Is it the amount of pain or what? Am confused, but always knew I would wind up with shingles. Have actually had chickenpox TWICE. Once as a kid (with mumps at same time), and then the horror of chickenpox as an adult.

Been getting this pricking feeling in my inner thighs and its like its getting worse i looked up what it could be. I saw herpes a few times i read it could be a start of an outbreak and the sore will appear 30 min.s to 2 days. it's been almost 3 it hurts and feels like it spread to my front thigh and i get this feeling on my arm and chest and side. I read it could be shedding too but i never noticed an outbreak of any type of open sores or blisters and i only started having sex a year ago. I don't think I'm the type not to show signs because my immune system is not all that good especially since i barely eat healthy or work out got really bad allergies and get sick pretty easily. I looked up shingles they said a person who had the chickenpox can get this. I had chicken pox. It said it happens to one part of the body and sometimes no rash just a pricking feeling. And i guess i should add i haven't had sex for a month now and this prickly feeling i was getting on and of just a little bit and now its been there constant for two almost 3 days. No rash open sores redness nothing. I don't feel sick just tummy and belly button hurt. And I'm on depo and read it can suppress the immune system. So is this herpes or shingles or me overreacting and freaking out? And what's the difference between herpes and shingles? Can i spread shingles?

My father (now 81 yrs) was diagnosed with Parkinsonism some years ago. My understanding is that Parkinsonism is considered to be a "cousin" of full-blown Parkinson's disease. Is it as bad as Parkinson's?

I am a 25 year old sexually active male. Yesterday i noticed small white bumps around my penis head. they looked like small pimples. they do not itch are not dry and are not painful.
the white bumps where less visible today after a shower. harder to find unless i look hard under good light
My questions are:
1: does this mean i have hpv ?
2: are these pimples or warts and how can i tell the difference ?
3: if these white bumps are gone after 3 days does this mean i am not infected ?

Lately I've been taking lithium (this will be week 3) I finally feel I am sort of seeing a difference. I can actually think now, understand things a little better, and overall I'm feeling good. But I need to know is lithium supposed to make your moods go up and down while you are still getting used to the meds? For examp. last week (which was wk 2) I was completely manic in front of my stupid coworkers. I had no idea until I was sitting on the bus to go home. Also I've been switching moods. Like from depression to mania....

Can anyone honestly tell the difference between, tap, filtered tap water, individual bottled (16 oz)and bulk bottle water (2 gallon jugs)?
I sure can't and my wife has now said that the filtered tap water isn't good enough for her so we have to buy bottled water in the smaller individual sizes.
