Depo-provera :: Anxiety, Depression, Body Ache And Migraines
Jun 14, 2016
I was supposed to go back in September for another depo shot of last year but decided not to cause of all the anxiety depression body ache migraines and all the other side effects that came with it I had only one shot but before that shot I had the nexplanon any ways I still have not had a normal menstrual and every 2 to 3 months it feels as though I went and got the shot with a rush of so many side effects what is it that I can do to help remove the depo from my body.

Always had migraines. Always when I started my period. They lasted 3 days and were brutal. About 13 years ago, I started depo provera (I'm 51). Those shots stopped my migraines. (No period, no headache!). It was wonderful!
Suddenly, the migraines are back. While not as severe, they last longer. I now get aura (never had it before). That scared the crap out of me!
Thinking maybe my hormones are up and down or something. I've had a migraine for a week now and can't stand it anymore. Zomig isn't stopping this one. Thinking of stopping the depo, but fear of worse migraines keep me on it. Doc wants me off this year anyway.
Anyone else have this break of normal migraine pattern? They make me think I'm still peri menopausal. Can't tell without a period.

I have also stopped the depo shot. I was on it for about 4-5 years. My last shot was August 2006. I was due for another shot at the end of November but my husband had vasectomy so I didn't get it. It's now March 2007, no period yet. I've been getting a lot of migraines, on and off nausea, sleepless nights. My cousin was on the shot for several years, she said it took her 9 months before she had her first period. This was about 2 years ago, she is pregnant now. I've been experiencing alot of cramping the last two days. Is this a sign that my period is about to start? As I've been reading, it seems like a waiting game. Can anyone tell me what to expect with my periods. How bad will they be?

I was on the depo for a year. The first 3 months were fine, no side effects at all. The second month started the pain. Constant migraines, bloating, irritation and unexplained anger, depression, mood swings, panic attacks, and severe hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia so bad that I had to eat ALL THE TIME or I would be close to fainting.
I never got the 4th shot. Coming off of the depo was complete torture. I was more depressed, I was fighting with my fiance so much that we almost broke off a multiple year relationship.. I was suicidal for a long time. But the problem is, the symptoms from coming off of it never got any better.
It's been 2 years, and I"m still depressed. Almost suicidal most days. I"ve been off and on a few different antidepressants and mood stabilizers but they only help until something triggers me into a depressive-bipolar state. I've also gained close to 50 pounds since coming off and that hasn't helped the depression either =/ (no real change in diet or exercise. I exercise the same but honestly eat better than I did when I was on it)
Is it even possible for the depo to be affecting me still? Could it have permanently affected me?

I have had menorrhagia since I was 16 years old. I finally met an OBGYN that suggested the Depo shot. I began the Depo shot 2 years ago and I was extremely happy with the immediate results of no period. Throughout my treatment I developed severe depression which went misdiagnosed and unrelated to the Depo shot. I also developed a severe case of Acid Reflux which actually put me in the ICU for two days. Throughout the two years I also gained 35 pounds. Is this all related I believe it is. Depo shot leading to Lexapro leading to Prevacid then to the weight gain. I am now off the Depo shot and I am extremely happy because I finally feel like myself again. I am no longer on the Lexapro and I have now begun to lose some of the weight I gained. Is it worth it? I would highly disagree. This shot should be a last resort considering it fools your body into menopause which is unnatural at the age of 35. I suggest weighing all other options before even beginning this therapy.

I'm on the depo provera injection, and I've felt depressed. It's been a just under a month so far, so will this wear off or will it always be for as long as I'm on the injection?

I am 31 years old and had a vaginal sex with a girl of unknown HIV status using two condoms at a time. It was my first sexual encounter. I ejaculated twice and both times I used double condoms as I changed after first ejaculation. Both times the condoms seemed to be intact and I could see my semen inside the condom. It's almost over 28 days now and since the past couple of days I have developed almost all symptoms like pain in the back (I have a history of L3 compression and pelvic hairline fracture in 2007), cough with something in throat, body ache, night sweats, hot flashes throughout the body, had stiffness and pain in the back of neck, not visible swollen lymph nodes , had two time kind of diarrhea today.
Since the day after this exposure I was panic stricken with stress and anxiety and cannot sleep at all with insomnia like features and wake up at 2 or 3 or 4 am in the morning due to all sorts of weird thoughts.

I've had migraines a good chunk of my life and I haven't had one in roughly 9 months but I have been experiencing almost like mini migraines? in that I experience pain very similar to a migraine but without the aura or having to lie down or take it seriously. I guess these could be tension headaches, but I'm not sure? I've also been experience other symptoms, including: ear pain, sensitivity to light/sound, ringing in the ears, and various pains all over my body. these symptoms can happen with a migraine but lately they've been constant and if not, happening often enough that I'm noticing. I've had a brain scan and nothing. I don't think it's ever been like this before and I'm curious as to what it could be? As in, a starting point. I do have migraine medication but all it does is put me to sleep, it doesn't help with the pain. Not sure if that matters.

On february 6th I started a medicated abortion at planned parenthood. Then a week later I went for my follow up appointment on february 14th. Everything was fine, and they injected me with my choice of birth control, depo provera, that day. Well of course it was Valentine's day, and the physician said it was okay to have sex again. I wasn't intending on it but me and my boyfriend ended up having sex that day without a condom, and he accidently came inside of me. I feel so stupid because my physician didn't tell me how long it would take for the depo provera to take effect, and I forgot to ask because of my nervousness. My question is that if it was possible I was ovulating and that I could get pregnant again?

I took depo for about 2 years in high school, (without breaks) and it was a full year before I got a period again. It's been a total of 22 months since I stopped taking depo and now I'm trying to conceive with my fiancé. I miscarried a month ago at 14 weeks.
When I consulted my doctor she told me firmly that YES. IT IS BECAUSE OF DEPO. going on it for long periods of time can cause infertility and I was told that I will not be able to carry a pregnancy to term for anywhere from 1-5 years- if at all. I've also been told to stay if any other birth control as that can increase my chances of not being able to give birth.
Has anyone else had similar events happen to them?

I used Depo from 1999 - 2006 on my G.P's advice that it was perfectly 'safe' and had no side effects other than no periods. In September '06 after reading online risks I demanded a Bone Density Scan and to my horror Depo has caused Osteoporosis. I am 30 yrs old!! My skeleton is equal to that of a 70 yr old woman thanks to Depo. I had no period for 7 yrs, my oestrogen levels are now extremely low and indicate I've gone through early menopause, my G.P refuses to test for this at this stage. I also had 4 stone weight gain - which I have now lost with extreme dedication, mood swings, blurred vision, chronic abdominal pain, lack of lubrication , exhaustion and more.I continued with the Depo unaware it was the cause for 7 yrs. I thought it was work stress causing it all. Only on a friends advice end 2006 I Googled Depo side effects, what I found was shocking. To all you women out there on this crazy drug, look up the side effects, go to the manufactureres website - pfizer.com, GET a copy of the patient info sheet,Google it, this is no good for you. I've been off it 4 months and no period yet. Side effects still there, I have had sore nipples for 5 days now, thought I may be pregnant but not - luckily! I have terrible hot flashes in the night I wake up saturated in sweat in the groin and underarm area, I still get totally exhausted toward the end of the day and have to just lay down, at my age!! Stomach pain has ceased now and still losing weight.

I'm nearly 16 years old and I found out some pretty horrible news about 3 months ago and it's been playing on my mind.
When my mum was younger she went to her doctors for her first depo contraceptive injection, her doctor didn't give her a pregnancy test but little did they know she was pregnant on me (my mum clearly didn't know either).
2 injections down the line and my mum was having problems and her stomach was swelling the doctors said that it was a stomach ulcer (it was me aha) after a while my mum insisted on having a pregnancy test and found out she was having me.
They said it could lead me Into having fertility problems.
They have said in the future if I try before I'm 25 and I am infertile that I will get ivf and any other treatment for free but..
I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and if they have had problems with getting pregnant or of there is any advice in knowing if I am infertile like symptoms and stuff like that
I know I'm young and won't be having children yet it just worries me.

Recently am on the first shot of depo, no birth control usage before this.
Ive always had pretty normal periods, lasting 3-5 days and itll go away.
Once i got on depo, i missed my period the first month completely.
The second month(which is now) i got my period, and so far its lasted 3 weeks and in 2 days itll be 4 weeks..
I should note that I do have unprotected sex with my husband, we are not looking to have a child anytime soon.
My period this month was a normal/heavy flow for about 2 weeks. And the last week its just been spotting sort of red and brown blood mixed together. I also should mention that on the first week of having my period this month,(TMI) a HUGE and i mean HUGE about the length of your hand, piece of tissue came out...It looked almost like... a piece of fish fillet. One side was white and the other side was kinda bloody gray dark looking. It was strange I panicked and threw it out.
Ive been repulsive to smells lately especially in food. I haven't gained weight. I have this weird sensation.Almost like a "gross" feeling inside my body. My breasts arent tender. I am wondering if i am pregnant. I took a pregnancy test before my period started this month and it came as negative. Not sure if maybe stress or pregnant?
Does implantation bleeding even last a week plus?

I had shot of depo provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?
