Anal Sphincter Repair / Rectovaginal Fistula - 4th Degree Tear During Pregnancy
Nov 14, 2013
Two weeks ago I underwent an anal sphincter repair as well as a rectovaginal fistula repair. I had a fourth degree tear at the birth of my second baby 9 months ago and as a result of this needed this surgery. However a small hole appeared to one side of my back passage and I got this looked at by the registrar in the Hosp and was told it would probably heal on its own and not to come back unless more complications. I was put on antibiotics. Two days later the hole is bigger and there is both fecal matter and thread from surgery coming out of this hole. I am now presuming I have an anal fistula. Has anybody experienced this after an anal sphincter repair?

So I have had an issue with fissures in the past, due to being on pain meds for pancreatitis for months and cooccurrent constipation. I have already had one surgery to heal the fissure, and it seemed to work. So when I started have that same burning pain when I had a BM I assumed that was what it was. I became really used to it, and it went on for a LONG time. Flash forward to now. I noticed a couple weeks back what looked like pus on my toilet paper when I wiped after urinating, and was freaked out. I pushed on the area near my anus and more pus came out. I assumed my fissure got infected somehow and left it alone. It happened again, this time I was home so I grabbed a hand mirror and looked down there. I saw a bloody spot that was leaking blood slowly about 1 inch from my anus, and I freaked out. I had NO idea what it was, so I googled it and looks like it may be a fistula. It seems to "close up" and go away for a while, then I can smell something and when I go the bathroom I am leaking a little bit of blood/pus from the hole. Seems to happen randomly, its opening doesn't seem to have any correlation with when I have a BM and BM's aren't bloody typically. I have been using anti bacterial soap down there frequently now and I can feel what feels like a ridge under the skin running from the hole to my anus if that makes any sense?
I am completely embarrassed. I am 28 years old and a female, someone who doesn't even leave the house without makeup and this situation is so bad. It smells, I feel like I smell 24/7 (nobody has mentioned it but I feel like I do) and I am almost too embarrassed to go to the doctor. Doesn't help that I am overweight, and though I am meticulously clean (I even use a bidet) I feel like somehow the doctor will judge me as a gross fat girl.

About 3 Months ago i experienced some discomfort after going to the toilet (#2's), and noticed i had a small lump just outside my anus. It seemed like it went away, but everytime i go #2's it comes back out. Recently it's gotten a fair bit larger, and i believe there's a second one there too. Today, it seems like the larger one doesn't go back in, so it's constantly outside my anus and constantly hurts because it's chaffing between my bottom.. I haven't noticed any bleeding, and it is usually pain free because it goes back into my anus.
The lumps aren't overly hard, i can put a bit of pressure on them by squeezing, but i haven't tried to pop them or anything like that, afraid what may happen.

Yesterday, I had an encounter with a guy I don't know very well. He told me he was HIV- and he didn't have any STD. We kissed a lot and engaged in protected anal sex. He ejaculated and removed the condom. It was intact and seemed perfect. 30 minutes later, we began to frottage. He rubbed his penis around my anus and then pushed in against my anal sphincter like he was trying to put it in without condom. I felt the pressure and told him to stop immediately so he did. I'm not sure but 1/3 of his penis glans might get in between my sphincter but definitely not get through it. It was like 2 or 3 seconds. He might have some Pre-ejaculation too. Am I at risk? Should I go for PEP?

Hello. Today While showering, I noticed I have a strange bean sized lump around my anal sphincter. The lump moves under my skin when I touch it, and seems to not be stationary. The lump appears to be white in color, although I admittedly have had trouble getting a good look at it.

I have a bump on my anal sphincter. I have no stds, have never had anal sex, and I have never had a hemorrhoid. I hope I do not have one so I would like more information. It just appeared about a week ago. I did shave down there the night before and had sex that night but its a normal routine so I don't understand why I have it. Could it be a cut from my razor that could have gotten infected because of friction? But its not white. Same color as my skin. Could it be a pimple? I don't see a head anywhere on it. Is it a hemorrhoid? I haven't done anything different that would cause that.

I have diarrhoea all the time since having my gallbladder removed 30 years ago, i now have sacral nerve damage which has caused my annal sphincter to weaken so i now suffer from incontinence. I have been told i may need a colostomy, does anyone out there have one or faecal incontinence.

After Abbi's thread about her dislocations, it has got me wondering if anyone inadvertently broke the 90 degree rule and got away with it. I'm not planning to try it of course, even pre-op I'm practising moving without bending my bad hip more than 90 degrees, but there are times when I forget. I'm sure after hip replacement I will be more aware, but do you hippies ever bend without thinking and if so, how has it affected you?

Does anyone know how long the don't bend 90 degree angle' is crucial for? I am four months in after THR of left hip. Bent down to put socks on and my husband said I was breaking g the 90 degree rule. I wonder if this is still causing the low back pain i am getting. Feel as though I should be better than I am.

I had surgery for HPV/anal warts in March 2012, and have since been unable to engage in anal sex. I've seen my doctor several times (another appointment next week) and he says that it's fine for me to have sex, and that I should do some dilation on my own at home. Well, I've been trying to do the dilation, but I can't even get a small anal plug to fully go in. It's as if there's a restriction up there--which can be felt, it's similar to a ring, and it feels like a scar tissue of some sort...
Anyway, I'm just looking to find some people who have had similar experiences, and am looking to hear from people who have had this problem and maybe have had some better results in terms of having sex again. It's really bumming me out. I'm 23 and I feel like this problem is going to linger with me forever.

anal sex has been implicated in the development of Non-Cancerous anal HPV and anal warts, which will result in a increased incidence of anal cancer.Treatment of anal HPV-associated disease depends on the diagnosis, location, and size or amount of disease.

Tomorrow is 8 weeks since FKR and I'm still stuck at 88 degree bend and 4 straightening. On a everyday schedule little pain walking with cane some times or nothing at home. Go to therapy 3 times a week and it's painful only when they push to reach my bend. Is 88 to little at 8 weeks. Going to see surgeon today and I feel he is going to say manipulation is needed. Very scared please advice what should I do. When I had my first arthroscopic surgeries it too a log time time to bend my knee same for my shoulder. So I don't know if I'm just a slow heeler or not doing good.

Okay so I just had anal sex with my husband for the first time. And afterwards I had a discharge with a bit of red streaked in it. Is that normal and okay? It wasn't a lot but it still concerns me because Im 4 months pregnant. It was impulse and I regret the decision but it happened. Id like to make sure we are okay.

This is my Second pregnancy and since i was 11 weeks i noticed some bleeding after passing a stool so went to see the nurse who did an examination down there and confirmed it was piles, i suffer with health anxiety so i wasn't settled with the diagnosis, anyway i relaxed and only had a couple of bleeding episodes, i'm now 24 weeks pregnant and recently have been have some bleeding when i wipe after a bowel movement, it also feels quite sharp when i poop like i'm tearing the skin and a small amount of bright red blood is seen on the paper ( there is none mixed in with the stool) i've had a look down there and i can see what i think is a pile, and also a tear i think, it feels sore now has anyone had any experience with this problem and should i be worried? All i think about is what if its cancer ...

I'm kinda freaking out and would like some advice before I head to the doctor in a couple days. Felt a sore on my anus when wiping and looked and saw what looked like a small cut when checking and thought it was from aggressive wiping or from when I was doing squats at gym. Couple days later cut is still there maybe bigger, but that may be from irritating it every time I have to wipe. Do also have what appears to be a hemorrhoid, and itches occasionally though that might just be because I can't stop think about it. I am sexually active but have always been safe and never shown symptoms anywhere else on body before.

Drunk - was propositioned outside bar downtown on way home. Lady offered me oral sex for $. I stupidly agreed. We had condom on - it was her condom, she put it on me.
After 30 seconds or so, I stupidly slid my condom covered penis into her vagina. About 10 seconds later I came to my senses, pulled out with condom. She took condom off me and I left.
Paranoid about:
1. What if condom had tear (I didn't see it at end to verify).
2. B/C lady was a professional, and working by a bar, I assume her risk of HIV is higher (Canada is location).
3. I am married. I worry about having sex with wife until I can be confident I won't give her anything.
For context - have been married for about a dozen yrs, and have never been unfaithful - never kissed, oral, vaginal, anal with any other person. I was very intoxicated resulting in my atypical behavior. This is my first risk experience.
Please let me know your thoughts. Should I get tested for HIV, STI?

A week or so ago I was at my daughter's who happens to work for an eye doctor. I laughing said, I thought it was a hair in my face but there isn't anything there. She said OH Mom that's not good. That evening I started seeing flashes in the corner of my eye. She told me to call her Boss who told me that this was most likely Posterior Vitreous Detachment which is common when you age but told me what to look for if anything changed. Within two days things certainly started changing. He had me come in and I had a horseshoe shaped tear. The next day I had retina surgery that don't let them tell you doesn't hurt, because it does!
Because of this tear, I now have a macular pucker and cataracts I didn't have before. Also I still have flashes and a lot of floaters.
They repaired the tear but I have lost the normal sight in that eye. I have a blurry spot in the center of my vision that looks like when your glasses are dirty. Let light hit my face and oh my goodness! Out of trial and error I realized if I put on my amber sunglasses that it helps cut the glare.
Has anyone had their vision return after developing a Macular Pucker? They say that the floaters should go away in six weeks. I sure hope they are correct.

I have Osteoarthritis I think, although the doctor didn't really do any tests to confirm it. Perhaps there's nothing they can do, I don't know. Anyway, it started out when I had a frozen shoulder when I was sixty from fracturing a small bone without realizing it. Because of the strain on the other shoulder that subsequently froze up as well. I had to sleep on my back for nearly a year, but after two lots of cortisone injections into the joints and lots of active dancing in my bedroom whilst in agony, they finally freed themselves and got back to normal. After that episode I found that my lower back was painful when I got out of bed in the mornings, and my right knee would collapse with pain up and down the stairs. My right hip now gives me a lot of pain too, and sometimes all of these joints play up together, leaving me in lots of pain. I do find that paracetamol helps, and I do use voltarol etc. I have tried using flexiseq also, which is a topical treatment that is supposed to lubricate the joint, but it is very expensive at £18 a tube and I'm not really sure whether it works or not. It seems to work sometimes, but not others.
Also, I find that I can wake up occasionally with more or less no pain at all for no reason that I can make out. I wish I knew what it was! Perhaps something I ate, or just didn't do the previous day?? who knows??

My story is as follows: about a month ago, I began having ear pain that would alternate between ears. After a few days of this, the pain settled in my right ear, where I developed both pain and fullness that persisted for about two weeks. My ear constantly had the sensation that it needed to "pop," such as what one experiences when on an airplane. I went to my GP after a week of these sensations, who told me that it was likely Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and that it would resolve soon. She prescribed decongestants, antihistamines, and a steroid nasal spray. I took Sudafed and Allegra (but not the spray, as I am scared of steroids) but they did not seem to help.
Well, in the meantime, my blocked ear was annoying the crap out of me, so I decided to go online and look for some home remedies to try. One thing that I found was something called the Valsalva maneuver, in which you close your mouth, pinch your nose and blow out against closed airways to unblock the ear. I tried this several times over the course of a few days in attempts to get my ear to unblock. Most times it was difficult to get the right ear to "pop," and even when it did, it did not alleviate my symptoms.
Shortly after trying this maneuver, however, I read that the Valsalva maneuver can actually DAMAGE your inner ear and cause a perilymph fistula if done too forcefully. (I don't think I did it too forcefully, but I can't be sure.) Learning this sent me into a panic, and ever since, I have been experiencing a vague, constant dizziness that lasts all day. I have had trouble focusing my eyes and it feels, at times, like my brain is being sucked up and out of my skull (sorry). In the meantime, the sensation of fullness and pain in my right ear has improved greatly, but I am still being plagued by this constant dizziness. This dizziness has been present for a full week now. I have no sensitivity to loud noises, no hearing loss, and no episodes of vertigo. I do have a bit of wooziness when I am a passenger in a car, and I have felt extremely, unnaturally ill and fatigued throughout this ordeal. For those of you who have had PLF, does this sound like it could be a possible PLF? Is it even likely that I acquired a PLF after performing the Valsalva Maneuver?
Thank you so much for your help. I am hoping and praying that this dizziness is a fluke and not related to a PLF or inner ear damage, but the possibility scares the ****** out of me, regardless. I have had an extremely stressful year between losing my job, acquiring a crippling hip injury, and dealing with a host of other health issues, and the possibility of chronic dizziness is not something I feel capable of dealing with at this point.
