Zocor And Zetia Together? Headaches, Constant Tiredness
Aug 4, 2014
I’ve been on Zocor (generic simvastatin) for years now and my cardiologist finally thinks it’s OK to lower my dosage from 80 mg to 60 and then hopefully 40 mg of Zocor. He probably wouldn’t have started tapering me down if it wasn’t for pretty bad side effects I was having from Zocor, including headaches, constant tiredness and pretty much feeling worn down for more than two years.
But, together with lowering my Zocor, he also added Zetia as another medication for lowering cholesterol and I’m wondering is it safe to take it at the same time with Zocor, given all the side effects I have?

I was prescribed Zetia after my regular physical showed I have borderline high cholesterol and Zetia was supposed to bring it back down to normal range. However, that did not happen at all, in fact during the time I was on Zetia I had either the same cholesterol results or even an increase.
Now my physician wants to switch me to statin medication Zocor and to be honest I’m reluctant to start taking it mainly because all the experiences and warnings about statin side effects. Would an increased dose of Zetia be enough to prevent my physician from switching me to Zocor?

I’ve had problems with high cholesterol for years, but it wasn’t causing me any major issues until recently when I had to be hospitalized because one of my arteries was almost completely clogged. I’m waiting for the stent placement surgery and in the meantime I was given two medications that are supposed to lower my cholesterol: Zocor and Zetia.
Ever since I started taking them I feel more tired than usual and the nurse said that is relatively common side effect from Zocor, but I’m not really sure what is the difference between Zocor and Zetia and do i need both of them to lower my cholesterol?

I’m 52 year old male and I’ve considered myself to be pretty much healthy overall, never really needed to see my physician, but I had to get a general check up for work and the bloodwork showed my bad cholesterol levels were in high range. I was immediately given prescription for Zocor (generic simvastatin)
Despite feeling like I had a worst flu ever, with bone and muscle aches for the few months I was on Zocor, my cholesterol went down enough for me not to have to take Zocor anymore. But, my doctor is prescribing me different cholesterol lowering medication, Zetia and will it cause the same side effects as Zocor?

I was prescribed Zocor for high cholesterol I have for years. Before Zocor I was on Tricor and it didn’t help to lower my cholesterol at all, so my cardiologist switched me to statin because I was under a very realistic risk of having a heart attack. My cholesterol numbers did went a bit down, but it seems like they haven't gone down enough since at my last checkup my cardiologist added Zetia to my treatment with Zocor and Lisinopril I have to take for hypertension.
What worries me though is will Zetia make Zocor side effects worse and is this a good choice when there are other statin medications out there?

I found this site by accident & on reading other views realise I have made a big mistake! I have been taking Atorvastatin 40mg as well as other heart drugs, for many years now. A chance remark to a nurse about my constant tiredness & she said it was the statins. I stopped taking them 3 months ago without saying anything to my GP (I continued to order them as usual) I felt human at last and a lot of my aches & pains also disappeared.
I am very susceptible to kidney stones having been born with a medullary sponge kidney, but have n't had any trouble for years. A routine scan in October 2010 showed no stones. An emergency scan 3 days ago revealed numerous stones - too many to count - plus a drastic rise in my cholesterol levels. Caused by not taking my statins!
Talk to your GP before stopping any drugs- in some cases the bad side effects are worth it and the drugs can prevent even more serious problems.

I've always had headaches, but for the last 6 months I've noticed they seem to have a pattern, whenever my partner goes away on work (he's a freelancer so that's every couple of weeks, normally for a couple of weeks) I get these mind numbing headaches that stretch round my forehead and over to above my ears, I'll get them almost every day, and painkillers rarely help, and yet the second he gets back they will go completely and I won't get another until he leaves again.

I seek your help and advices for I have been experiencing headaches EVERYDAY for the past 7 months. It seemed to have started with a bad cold or sinusitis at the beginning of February.
The pain level can go from 2-3, (usual daily headache), to about 6-7 where it’s close to a migraine and I can’t concentrate or do anything.
- I have had a MRI in
2009, due to a swimming accident where I hit my head on the side of the pool, but nothing showed up.
- I have had a CT in
April 2011 and nothing showed up either.
- I’ve
seen a Sinus (ORL Specialist) and said that my headaches didn’t come from a sinus infection. I was prescribed various Antibiotics for sinus infection and
didn’t seem to help either.
- I’ve seen a Neurologist and she prescribe me Elavils, which I took for a month and then stopped because it didn’t help the headaches, only made me sleepy all day and even more depressed.

For the past 2 years i have had so many different things happen to me, the main issue now is my head. i have been having constant headaches in the back of my head for about 7 months. i've been to the doctor and has been on all different types of tablets. one lot of tablets that were described to me was migran, which made my headaches WORSE! atm i'm on sandomigran. they don't seem to do anything.
i see a chiropractor so the cure isn't that. i have to see a specialist soon, but i want to know if you have any idea what could be wrong with me.
i'm sick and tired of not getting an answer.

I have been on lisinopril for 5 days now. My bp has been high for the last 2 months (again - had episodes of high bp on and off for the last 8 years !) with readings of 160/100 - got a home monitor and have been monitoring my bp for a week with average readings of 170/105 (some readings being 183/110) Doc advised me to go on to lisinopril and although my bp has dropped to an average of 150/95 I'm noticing that I have a constant 'muzzy' head with an increase in headaches, a dull ache behind my eyes and a feeling of constant heaviness in them and I get a dull ache with slight pins and needles in my left arm, hand leg and foot. I had an ecg yesterday but still waiting on results. Does this sound normal to other users of lisinopril ?

Okay, so I’m 16 and I’ve been suffering for about a year with constant headaches, although sometimes it feels more like pressure building up on my head, and sometimes it feels like its at the back of my eyes, I also find it hard to sleep because I have this weird pulsating feeling in my head. I don’t know if this could be connected but I also get some days when I just feel detached from everything and everyone and just totally spaced out and I have
to think really hard to remember things, like literally what I’ve done in the day, I have to recall my whole day to remember what I have done and I have a
really bad memory. I also get random shooting pains up my back, I would really like some help to find out what this is if anyone has experienced similar or has any tips?

I am 42, was diagnosed with CS at 40. I take painkillers far to regularly due to neck pain and periods of constant headaches. Present one for 4 days! I sleep in a neck collar every night and have medication to help me get off to sleep. I have also been prescribed diazepam which i use when my neck movement is to restricted for me to carry out everyday duties. Luckily this is very rare. My left arm is affected the worse, not helped by nerve damage in my left hand from carpal tunnel syndrome. I don't use my left arm unless i have no option as it normally ends up with things dropped on floor due to weakness. If i rest left arm on table or passenger arm rest in car it will go numb. My consultant was excellent and extremely sympathetic when diagnosed. I have now been discharged with my pills and collar! And they say life begins at 40!

I’m male, 42 years old and I’ve been having genetic problem with high levels of bad, LDL high cholesterol, in ranges between 250-270 over period of two years. The first statin medication I was prescribed was Crestor. It took me almost a year to convince my doctor that muscle and joint pain I’m experiencing because of Crestor are ruining my life completely.
So he took me off statins for a short period, just three months, and together with dietary changes, my LDL cholesterol levels were around 250. I was having a completely normal and healthy sex life. Then my doctor decided my levels are still too high and that I need another statin - Zocor (simvastatin) and for the past six months I’ve been on Zocor, I’ve been having extreme erectile dysfunction.

Even though I was aware of potential side effects statin medications might cause, mainly them causing muscle and joint pain, I had little choice but to start taking Zocor after I had heart attack. At that point, my bad cholesterol levels were through the roof and it’s still uncertain if I’ll have to have coronary artery stents placed or not.
Ever since I started Zocor I feel more tired than I ever was in my life. I have a feeling I could sleep all day, with barely any motivation to do anything. Could this tiredness be another side effect of statins?

I’m female, 52 and due to my high cholesterol levels and family history of coronary disease, my physician had me start taking Zocor (simvastatin). I’ve been on this medication for almost six months now and from the last month I’ve been starting to lose more and more hair. When I asked my doctor is Zocor causing this, he completely denied that was possible and instead sent me to various hormonal tests. They all were in normal ranges.
After this I decided to take the matter into my own hands and continue with healthy diet, exercise and no Zocor (but I do use red rice supplement instead) and finally my hair is not falling off any more.
