Women's Health :: Myomectomy And Back Pain
Jan 20, 2014
I just had an abdominal myomectomy on 1/10/14. Recovery is going pretty well other than some tenderness, stinging/burning at the incision site, and discomfort sleeping/walking. What has been most troubling throughout my recovery is BACK PAIN! The aching and tightness of the lower/mid back muscles is excruciating. I still cannot walk completely upright, I often bend at the waist to relieve pressure, and the tightness is so painful at times, that I feel as if my legs will give out and I'll end up falling. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what causes this? I mentioned it to a nurse a few days ago when I had the staples removed and she wrote it off as "those bad hospital mattresses." 10 days later, I'm thinking it's more than that and would appreciate any insight as I am miserable! Thank you!

Hi I am 3 weeks post laparoscopic myomectomy. Few days after surgery I started noticing my lower back ache. The pain is in the middle, by the tailbone. Pain can sometimes also travel to my right leg. And also the pain is a lot worse when I walk or sit for over 5 minutes.
Unfortunately I can't take anti-inflammatory because I get a lot of diarreah from just 200mg. So I've been using a heating pad and just sitting.
Anyone had the same experience? What is causing this? Will this go away? What can I do to make the pain subside?

Does anyone else have problems with frequent loo trips? And abdominal pain and discomfort? I do day and night. My GP doesn't really know what to do surprise surprise. I've pushed for and had lower and upper abdominal ultrasounds as well as gynae ultrasounds and an abdominal/liver MRI. Ans also gastroscopy. I'm just wondering if it could be at all head related. I've seen a live doc and they don't think it's liver related though turns out I do have gastritis. I don't know what else to do. Pain doc (for head) incidentally referring me to anish bhara at queen's square. Also have back pain problems with my SI joint which may be related to abdominal pain or some of it anyway. Also seeing CFS clinic for first time on 28th and am a longterm chronic migraineur. Sorry for long post just getting desperate and trying to think round things.

I've always had 'women' problems starting my period when i was 10, painful periods etc.. after 10 years of pain i was finally referred for a laparoscopy in 2010 all was clear and i got pregnant a few months after the pains went away whilst pregnant but returned soon after but constant and started to suffer constipation and vomiting after a few a&e visits and gp apps i had an endoscopy and colonoscopy only thing that showed up was chronic gastritis was put on omeprazole. also had low vitamin d so took various supplements. Started feeling better got pregnant with baby number 2. All was fine natural labour felt fine up until April last year!...
Started getting lower back pain, pain left side near hip (inside groin) pain around the pubic bone, upper inner thighs!.. some days it's so painful others just a dull ache but still annoying when you have 2 kids under 5 to look after.. been to the gp and she put me on the pill but it hasn't helped she sent me for an vagina ultrasound came back fine but now she won't do anymore tests and keeps sending me home with codeine and basically fobbing me off!
Anyone else have my most recent symptoms (lower back pain, pain left side near hip (inside groin) pain around the pubic bone, upper inner thighs!..)

For the past year I have had bleeding during intercourse but never any pain. I have been told I could have endometriosis and or pcos. I have had bacterial diagnosis and uti off and on for years but I think now I'm having a constant infection that won't go away. I've seen different doctors and they don't seem to be concerned about the bleeding and can tell me what's causing it. It's alarming to me because I know it's not normal and shouldn't be happening all the time during intercourse. I have no pain with it and always plenty of lube. Also I just recently had a saline sonogram that showed nothing. Please what else can they do to figure out what's causing this and should I just let it go untreated?

On a Friday night, I had intercourse with my boyfriend. I noticed pain starting on the right side of my vagina. The next day, the right side was very sore. I went to work, and started having symptoms such as shivering, weakness, nausea, kidney pain, and ovarian pain. I was also suffering from constipation. I went home and felt better besides the vaginal pain on my right side. There was no bleeding. On sunday, I tried to pass stools along when I noticed a little bit of blood from my vagina. It was not coming out on it's own, only when I wiped. The blood wasn't serious. On Monday, the pain from my vagina started to go down, but when I stood up, brown blood/liquid basically squirted out from me. The whole day I had weird liquid just coming out of me. Today(Tuesday), there was more blood when I wiped. Could I have a ruptured cyst or could something have torn inside of me?

In my last 2 cycles I have noticed more changes than usual for me. I have started spotting about a week before my period and have pain almost from ovulation onward each cycle. I have been tired most of the time, temps are all over the place even after ovulation, have a combo of diarrhea and constipation as well as an influx of acne. I do have a Drs appointment but I have to wait a month to see her. Anyone else had anything similar? I usually have painful periods but not usually all month long and many symptoms of Endo, just never been diagnosed with it as of yet.

My boyfriend and I don't have sex, but will "fool around", and I have noticed after foreplay, I have cramping and pain in my lower abdomen that sometimes lasts a few days. It sometimes feels like a bloating feeling, but it is painful. (I have had problems of painful cramps during my period and my doctor has put me on oral contraceptives.) Is he being too rough, or is there something else that is causing this pain?

About 2 week's ago I took 2 perc within a night and the next day I got sick, I thought from the pills, but than I was nauseous and have been for the most part ever since. My left side mid to lower back started hurting approx a week ago and it's gotten much worse last night and now I'm having pain in my upper right abdomen as if the pain moved. I'm on muscle relaxers for my back already but it's not affecting/helping my new pain though and the new pain doesn't feel the same. I was just curious if anyone had any idea what it might be, some say kidneys but does that pain or can it move from my back to my abdomen?

Me and my gf had a intercourse yesterday. We had it many times, let's say close to 7 in 2 days.. It was little rough. In the end, she started bleeding, a bright red in colour and also few spots for couple of hours. Now it's stopped. She had her cycle 16 days before. Also a month before she took an emergency pill. Today, she is experiencing abdominal cramps, swollen vagina and a pain inside vagina if touched.

I'm 18 and i was diagnosed with scoliosis at a young age. I wore a brace to correct the curvature for about 2-3 years. The brace would put pressure on my hips and after some time I would have pain in my lower back, down my buttocks, down the back of
the leg and into the toes. It's sharp and searing and sometimes there's tingling and numbness. Could this be sciatica caused by the brace? Is it possible that it pinched the nerves and caused permanent damage? All I know is that it is extremely painful and hard to get to go away..

Ten days ago I had a robotic laparoscopic myomectomy to remove four large fibroids from my uterus. The surgery went great, and I've been recovering at home and have been waited on hand and foot by my husband a bit less each day.
The only problem I'm having is occasionally in one specific spot I'm experiencing a pins and needles type of pain - sometime like shards of glass - in my abdomen. Yesterday I thought it was the result of overdoing it so I rested yesterday and still woke up in pain. My doctor is an hour and a half away (closest one I could find who does the Da Vinci robot!) so I'd hate to schlep myself all the way there if I don't need to. Anyone have any insight about this kind of pain following surgery?

I had a myomectomy and signed off work for 10 weeks. I'm now fully back to work but still experiencing some pains in my tummy. I know that one fibroid was left behind (I had 14, largest measuring 10cms) because it was small and in an awkward place and just wondering if anyone in a similar situation still gets pains? My pains are generally in the ovary area, each side taking it in turns to hurt. Last couple of days it's been my left ovary area and now Im making frequent trips to bathroom to pass not that much urine and also have strong back pain just above lower back
Feel like almost my fibroids could have come back with these pains i'm having. Can they come back so soon? Or perhaps it's just my insides are still sore and healing. Is it normal to feel all this after this length of time?

It was 2 weeks yesterday since I had my open myomectomy and this morning I woke with the worst period pains ever!
My tummy hurts so much particular at the sides of my scar and my back....if it hurt before, now it's seriously hurting!!! Is this normal??? Did anyone else experience this? Is it a one off because my op is still fresh or will my period always be like this from now on? I'm in agony and keep bursting into tears.

It's 3 weeks today since I've done my myomectomy. I'm still a little swollen and I get either sharp shooting pains or what feels like cramps in the area. I think maybe it's my bladder that's cramping ? because I feel a slight discomfort when I pee. I still get tired very easily, even if all I'm doing is walking around the house. I lost 1.3 litres of blood and my blood count's lot less than what it should be. Is that the reason why ? I was supposed to do a blood count on Monday 23rd but I didnt go because I wanted the boyfriend to come with me to bolster me. My biggest fibroid was almost the size of a football and the second biggest was the size of a grapefruit. I got lots of rest last week but I still feel tired..I don't understand why. I'm feeling just as awful as I did after the surgery. I thought the tiredness and pain would be gone by now. I have to go back to work tomorrow but my doctor said 6 weeks. I don't want to lose my job. My boyfriend says I'm fine. It's week 3 now. Also,my left lymph gland/groin hurts sometimes. I'm back to feeling the same discomfort as I did after the myomectomy. The scar area is a mixture of numbness and pain. Is this normal ? My sides and back hurt too. I've been using my abdominl muscles to get up, which I didn't do before, (I was using my hands to push up and my boyfriend would help me to get up), so now my abs feel sore. Is that okay ? My doctor had said that if my blood count doesnt go back up to normal I may have to do a blood transfusion. I don't want to do that. I've stopped taking the pain medication Voltaren, because I don't want to get addicted.

I am in Australia (this website is fantastic by the way) and have just finished my first week of recovery after having an open myomectomy to remove a 15x11cm fibroid.
The fibroid was on the outside right hand side of my uterus.
I feel like I am recovering quite fast (have been able to get up and active during the day). However, I have a constant tenderness like pain on the inside on the right hand side. I have been sleeping on my sides at night because I can't stand lying on my back for too long! I feel like this may be irritating my insides though, do you think I could do permanent damage by lying on my side?
What are your experiences 1 week in post op?

Hi just wondering if anyboy else had sudden pain 3 weeks after open myomectomy? I was recovering well and beginning to feel almost back to normal other than some pulling pain at the sides of my incision scar and being slightly uncomfortable sitting up normally for longer periods. I also feel less bloated and although my stomach is still a bit swollen it is back to being flatter without the pregnant bump look.
I didn't have a general anaesthetic opting for a spinal anaesthetic and sedation instead. Initially after the surgery I had some issues with pain relief due to not being able to take certain medications and also going to the toilet. My GP gave me some morphine and strong laxatives and all went back to normal. I stopped taking the morphine about 8 days ago and was able to cope with the pulling pain. The skin around the scar is still very sensitive and tingle.
Since yesterday I have a sharp pain almost in the centre of my belly but slightly to the left and it is very painful to press on that side. I should add that I've been doing quite a lot round the house as my husband is unable to do much due to hurting his hip while I was in hospital and is therefore on crutches. I have been trying not to carry anything and I feel that I am still very weak so not sure if I might have pulled or strained something.
I have an appointment booked with my GP tomorrow anyway (actually to discuss something else) but was wondering if this was normal?

I had a tubal ligation in July after my third child was born (c-section). I bled the normal amount afterwards, about 6 weeks. Then I finally, got my first real period on October 27th, it lasted until December 13th, it came back on December 23rd and it still hasn't stopped, I made an appointment with my gynecologist for the 19th. It's a pretty heavy flow, I have to change my pad and tampon every 3 hours, I can go 6 at night. I'm not anemic, I had my iron checked at the health department when I went for my recertification. It's been 9 weeks of cramping, back aches, and bloating, I'm just really done at this point. I would like someone's opinion on this, has anyone ever had this happen to them? Is it just a hormone imbalance? Does it seem concerning? I don't want to go to my appointment completely oblivious as to what it might be.

I'm 17, and I got my period when I was about 13. It would come fairly regularly, but I never really tracked it to the day. About 2 years ago my periods became further apart, every two or so months, but I never really payed attention. I now haven't had my period in over a year, and am beginning to get quite worried. I have been to a doctor (about 6months ago) and had blood and hormone tests, all of which came back fine. My doctor said to come back if I still hadn't had it in a year, which I plan to do as soon as I can get an appointment. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on why it might be? I am a virgin, eat completely healthy, exercise every day, am at the middle of healthy weight range for my age/height, and have never been on any birth control. My doctor said he thought it unlikely to be cysts but I'm not ruling it out (just crossing my fingers that it's not). I haven't been too worried as its quite convenient with my very active lifestyle, but i realize I need to get it sorted out.

I had my period was June 2015. I have now taken my period for the first time since then, and it has been going on for 3 weeks and doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. I am 24 years old and have went to my doctor about this, but they said it was normal. Honestly I don't think it is normal but I might be wrong. Has anyone experienced anything like this and know what could be wrong? I do have Crohn's disease but I don't think it has anything to do with that.
