I visited a hospital on 5/15/14 with symptoms of a swollen and severe sore throat (a lot of pain when swallowing) and a 100 f temperature; my throat also had white patches on it. When the doctor saw my throat he said it looks like you have strep. Then he did the 5-10 minute strep swab test but it came back negative. Nevertheless, he still thought I most likely had it and that I should start treatment. We also tested for mono on that day and since then they haven't called back for that (if they don't call back assume negative they say).
He prescribed Amoxicillin 500 MG X2 daily for ten days. So far I have taken 2,000 MG (over the course of 2 days) and my throat still seems the same in regard to pain. The only thing that consistently seems to help my pain is Ibuprofen.
Should I worry? Should I go back to the hospital to see what's going on?

I have seasonal allergies, although, this may not be that case, because this year I have not had allergies.
I have had a BAD sore throat, and it really tends to hurt when I swallow. I've taken cough drops, honey, salt water rinses, tylenol and ibuprofen, and even gargled my prescription Lidocaine for numbing, and none of its working. I can't post a picture because I don't know how right now, but my throat is red, but no pus spots, no swollen tonsils, or anything else seems wrong. My sore throat has been accompanied by a fever that comes and goes, and a headache that lasts and day and goes, then comes back, and goes again. Is there anything I can take for what is going on, and can you tell me what I might have?

I've had a sore throat today that mildly hurts, and feels like somethings stuck in my throat. Looking at it it has red and white bumps in the back of my throat, my tonsils are swollen and look raw? There bright blood red patches along with white stringy spots, it doesn't look like strep, but I have occasionally through the years have had random moments when my throat swells up, I also get sore throats a lot the last couple of months. Anyone know what it is?

I'm really worried. I'm an 18 year old male. I'm studying for my final exams and I'm having some serious problems with my health.
I got a strep throat in October. It was treated with antibiotics and it passed and I was severely ill. In December I had appendicitis and they were removed. I then had 3 sore throat and serious fatigue episodes in January March and right now. At the moment my tonsils are inflamed and I'm seriously fatigued and feel run down. I'm waiting on my results of blood tests. My recent esr test was 70mm/ph. I'm getting the rest of the results Wednesday.
Has anyone had problems like this before ? I'm really worried and I have my finals in a few weeks.

I am asian male, 28years old. Today is March 13th.
About a month ago(early Feb), I started to have a lump feeling/sensation in my throat and a couple of days later , on one day, it became so severe that I had difficulty swallowing, even saliva. However, a couple days later it became better and almost unnoticeable. I thought it was due to anxiety, cause i searched "lump sensation in throat" and I got "Globus Sensation".
However, about 10 days ago. The same lump in throat feeling came back. This time it was milder, no pain, not itchy, but just feeling something stuck in my throat and its moves from day to day. One day it could slightly to the left, next day could be slightly on the right. I took pictures and saw one or two 3-5mm diameter lump/pus grow on the back of my throat. I immediately went to my primary doctor, who did not take it seriously and said it might be allergy and only saw some redness in my throat and it would clear up on its own. After It persisted for over a week, I went to ENT who did a throat culture. Today I got a call from ENT doctor saying that I have strep throat.(not sure which type). And I started taking Amox just now.
I am worried about it has anything to do with STD because I had a stupid exposure with a SW about 2 months ago(Jan. 7th, unprotected oral and protected vaginal, but I didn't give her oral, I only received for 1min or 2, but my lips did touch her lips slightly twice, but definitely no saliva exchange.) I did
1. urine tests for chlamydia and gono 7 days after the event. (both negative)
2. syphilis rpr tests, one at 4th week, another one at 8th week after the event.(both not reactive)
3. HIV pcr RNA test at 25 days after the event (not detected)
4. did not have any skin condition, such as rash, ulcer, sore, blisters, or canker in the genital area, and checked and confirmed by a dermatologist recently.
So, my questions
1. The only symptom I have is "lump feeling/sensation in throat, not painful but annoying" and recently some dry cough at night and dry throat. Other than that, no pain, no fever, no headache. I wonder besides strep throat, could there be anything else, too? mono, oropharyngeal cancer by HPV? I guess because I did not give her oral, it shouldn't be oral gono, right? I remember having cold sore when I was a child (6years old). Could the lump in the back of throat be any kind of herpes? possibly herpes type1.
2. If the first outbreak 1month ago was also strep throat and I just started the treatment. Could I possibly get post strep disorders or complications, such as rheumatic fever, kidney inflammation etc. by now or later in the future. Do I need to get checked out.
3. Why symptoms of Strep is much milder than described on the internet? due to the fact I am adult?

I've had a really bad sore throat for the past month. Over that time, the concentration of the pain has moved to different areas of the throat, first it was in the back of the throat behind the uvula and tonsils, then it moved to the bottom of the throat above the collarbone, now its back behind to uvula and tonsils.
I've gone to the emergency room 5 times this month, every time I saw a physician's assistant. The first time on March 9th, I had noticed a bag of pus directly in the back of the throat, so I went in and they thought it was pharyngitis and gave me some amoxicillin which did help and cleared it up within 48 hours. Then it came back on March 18th. I went back again and, instead of giving me more of or a higher dosage of amoxicillin, they decided to switch it to Keflex, which didn't help at all. I went back again, and they thought it might be allergies so they gave me loratadine which, still, didn't help at all.
I decided to go to a different hospital but, ended up having to wait 7 hours in there to see what they could suggest. They prescribed me some percocets, a mouth wash which numbs the throat comprised on maalox and liquid benadryl, and some prilosec because they thought in might me acid reflex. Still none of this killed the pain or got rid of the sore throat.
I went back to the other hospital and the same woman who prescribed me loratadine just dismissed it and didn't give me anything to help. Despite the fact that I was in a lot of pain, she said that my throat looked "fine," though I had checked in the mirror and it was red and there was a small pus She did take some blood to see if I had h. pylori. Every time I've went I've had a step culture and a mono test, and those have come back negative. She told me to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor, but I can't get in until two more days.
I called and spoke to a male physician's assistant yesterday who prescribed me azithromycin. As directed, I took two azithromycin the yesterday, and one today which did seem to stop some of the swelling. My throat doesn't hurt as much as it did but, I can still see some pus pockets on both sides of my throat directly behind my bottom molars and still feel quite a bit of discomfort. I don't think this is a virus as I've had it for a month; it seems like a throat or respiratory bacterial infection or an abscess.
What would you recommend or suggest to do in this situation?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. At 4 weeks I got strep and had to be on amoxicillin and tylenol. My sore throat got a little better but has came back with a vengeance. I really don't want to go to the doc and be put on more antibiotics since I'm still in the 1st trimester. Any safe home remedies to cure a sore throat?

Almost exactly 30 days ago I had unprotected insertive vaginal sex with a woman I might categorize as low risk. Until this encounter I have only been with my wife (high school sweethearts). The woman in question is from northern Minnesota, white, in her 40s. I'm also in my 40s, white, also from rural Minnesota. For the past three weeks I've had sore throat, slightly swollen lymph nodes on my neck. No fever, no rash. Checked for strep, came back negative. I've confessed to my wife who appears willing to stay with me. I'm scheduled for HIV testing next week (4th generation). I have an appointment with ENT, but not for another month. In the meantime my anxiety level is quite high....I don't necessarily feel fatigued, or flu like. But the last couple of days my appetite has disappeared, which may be due to the anxiety. I am worried because the sore throat and slightly swollen lymph nodes have lasted this long without knowing the cause....Can't be cold, shouldn't last this long. Allergies? I take Zyrtec every day and seem pretty clear. Not much sinus congestion at all. Tonsillitis? One does appear a bit enlarged. All of a sudden? Seems coincidental. Near panic as I wait for my test....any possible reassurance to help get me through this weekend? Mono perhaps?

I've been suffering this type of cough for a month. I've got doctor medication, but seemed like not very helpful. When I cough after eating, I always feel like want to vomit. That feels totally horrible. The first week when I started to show a cough symptoms, I don't mind it that much as I think it's a seasonal flu. But after a while, it doesn't seem to get away. Is there any clue of what might had invade my body, maybe some kind of virus, or even parasit? Also, I had a bronchitis when I was 17. I am 20 now.

Last night I started getting a cold, so I took a shower and went to bed. On the middle of the night my fever broke and I woke up sweating really badly. Well I noticed an itchy sensation by my pubic area and when I looked I had a red rash all on my pubic area up to parts of the hair on my stomach. I even have a small rash on my thigh. It looks like it's only where hair is at. It is like bright red and it feels like it might have something in it, like you can feel the rash. I was hoping you could give me an idea of what it is?

I've had a sore throat, and an on and off fever for four days.
At one point it got to 102 degrees, but I took fever reducer and a cold bath, and it quickly went away.
And while my fever has come back several times, it hasn't gone over 100.8 since.
So far I hadn't had any stomach pain and never felt dizzy or nauseated, until suddenly just now after eating some tomato soup, I got light headed and puked like a quart of bile, but not my food.
Now My ears burn and they trickled a little bit of clear sticky liquid [pretty sure it was bile], and everything looks a little blurry because my eyes won't stop watering.
I'm pretty sure my fever's gone, but I can't balance well enough to make my way to the thermometer to check for certain.

I'm 23 and have had trouble with Kidney infections all my life.
When i was little i had trouble with wetting the bed until i was 8years old.
All my life i've had infections, some urine but mostly kidney. When i was 20 I developed acute pyelonephritis which overnight turned into septicaemia and i was rushed into theatre with suspected internal bleeding.
I've seen specialists in Dorset, Somerset and Gloucestershire and have had loads of scans and xrays which all confirm there is nothing wrong with my kidneys.
The only symptoms i get are pain (always always my left kidney only) and cloudy urine. I seem to get these about once a fortnight - i'm so sick of antibiotics (which don't even work that well anymore) that i've stopped going to doctors and just try to cope with it on my own by drinking loads of water and taking painkillers.
Its been suggested that i take a permanent antibiotic which i take everyday for the rest of my life - but i'm only 23 and i hate taking drugs for anything.
I worry that when i'm older i will get kidney failure. I just CANNOT believe that a normal healthy person can get this many infections and nothing be wrong? Or that there is nothing that can be done about it. The specialist in Gloucestershire told me "It's very common and unfortunately technology hasn't advanced enough to deal with the disorder, so there's nothing we can do".
I feel sick, tired and emotional everytime this happens and its so hard to cope with work, university, keeping a house and being a single mum to a 2 year old when i feel this ill. I manage but it makes me cry a lot.

I sometimes and very suddenly become very tired(unable to sit), cold back, and headache. These symptoms would appear 3 to 4 times a year and last 10 to 11 days and then disappear as quickly as they came. Last year or so they came more often but most of time last only 4 to 5 hours. Blood test reveals nothing.
I might add I have 3 to 4 sinus infections a year and have yellow nail syndrome.

I have had a mild sore throat for 2 weeks. Last night I gargled with warm salt water and this morning it is twice as bad. My ears are popping a little and it is now a little difficult to swallow. No Other symptoms. I can not take antibiotics because they make me very sick, no matter what kind the doctors give me. What can I do?

I am at the end of a cold (2 weeks)and I have a bad chesty cough. I'm up in the night like a cat with a furball.
I saw my doctor who advised to use honey and lemonade, and Vicks vapour rub, but said to stop using the covonia chesty cough syrup, as it suppresses the cough.
Is that correct ? I always believe it contained ingredients to help break down the congestion.
