Undiagnosed :: Dizziness, Headaches And Vision Problems

Oct 9, 2014

For the past 8 months I have been suffering from dizziness, slow going at first and was manageable, but I am worried that it was a warning sign as things are getting worse.

When it first started I would get random dizzy attacks when moving my head (feel like the room around me was spinning or I was still moving when I wasn't) I went to the doctors and he explained it could be from my operation and my body getting over the anaesthetic, just a keyhole op to take appendix out. He recommended I wait and if it didn't improve within a month then to go back. I returned a month later as the symptoms hadn't improved and was put on some antibiotics to "relieve" the symptoms. When this didn't work I again returned only to be given a higher dose of them for a further month . I was then told to wait yet another month without them in the hope it would relieve the dizziness completely.

Then it started to get worse. My vision has changed and not become as clear almost a bit cloudy and I see flashing lights sometimes, I have had my eyes tested and even been to the hospital for a detailed eye examination -nothing. Then around 4 weeks ago I began getting migraines with aura and have had one a week since it started and the dizziness has become constant. I notice it really bad when I am still and concentrating and it feels as if everything around me is moving and also when I move then stand still a wave of dizziness comes over me and completely throws me off balance almost as if the ground is moving , I never fall but always feel like I am going to. I returned to the doctors last and have now been asked to get blood tests which are in 2 weeks ad have been referred to a neurologist which I have been told can take up to 8 weeks.

This week it has been extremely bad and has reduced me to tears a number of times as it really frightens me. I have had a constant headache sort of behind my eyes which feels dull and almost like there is pressure in my head, for the past 3 days and painkillers aren't helping. Every time I walk, move, or even am still the dizziness appears. It is affecting my work as I am unable to be at my computer a long time due to my vision. I was told to go back to the doctors should things get worse and plan to go tomorrow evening to out of hours. I really don't think that I can wait 8 weeks for a date to see the neurologist and feel it needs to be done sooner. I have been reading about my symptoms and have no clear steer on the possibility but I am really worried at the possibility of a brain tumor as a family member passed away of this last year.

I think it's important to note that I am 21, and generally eat well and exercise regularly (not as much as of late due to severe dizziness) At the end of last year I suffered from panic attacks, costochondritis and anxiety following the loss of a close family member. Once I went back to work January this year things improved hugely on that front. I understand that anxiety is often linked to dizziness but I am struggling to believe this has stemmed from that. I now only suffer anxiety of fear of these feelings returning.

Undiagnosed Dizziness And Pressure Headaches

I am 21 year old female college student, I have been dealing with these health issues since November 2013. I used to lead a healthy lifestyle, doing great in school, had a job, and participated in school organizations. Also, I was able to exercise everyday and was in the best shape of my life and ate extremely healthy no bread, lots of veggies and grilled chicken. Happier as ever.

Then one day after exercising i began to feel this nauseated off feeling that made me feel as though im not stable. I have never fallen over or fainted (except once when i got my blood drawn to check for this problem). Then gradually over time dizziness is what i began feeling not the room spinning but i feel like i am moving when im not, i feel like i have to second guess where i walk and concentrating on the computer or driving long distances is a challenge. Then started these headaches since April 2014 where i feeling like my head is shaking and pulsing inside. This pulsing and pressure worsens when I am lying down and it takes a while for me to adjust from lying down to standing up i feel woozy when i do. Anyway I have had this constantly everyday. At first it got me really emotional but I have been practicing yoga/meditation everyday as well as acupuncture and massage therapy to help manage the stress and anxiety i was having about the dizziness/head pressure.

Heres the many doctors I have seen:
blood work - all normal according my GP; blood pressure, b12, thyroid is normal

eyes (i wear contacts) - optometrist, ophthalmologist, neuro-opthamologist - all normal; no elevated optic nerve pressure; prescription is the same

ears - saw two ENTS, had vestibular testing done - nothing wrong

finally got an MRI - it showed i have a cavum velum interpositum cyst (3x3.7 cm in sagittal views (side), 3.2x 4 cm axial view); i was most likely born with this - it is hard to say if has grown or always been this size and might be an incidental finding - hard for doctors to say which makes it super frustrating
**NO HYDROCEPHALUS, hemorrhage, midline shift, extra axial collection, or acute intracranial mass effect

i have seen about 3 neurosurgeons all with different opinions

- first was an adult surgeon at the cleveland clinic - said my cyst is very rare; suggest a shunt (but would not want this due to the risky foreign object nature of the device, i would rather an endoscopic procedure)

- second saw a pediatric neurosurgeon; put me on diamox 250 mg twice a day it has been making my head feel better so the doctor is inclined to think its the cyst

- third pediatric neurosurgeon at University of miami; was not convinced the cyst is causing my problems said it was probably incidental and wants me to wait 3-6 months to get another MRI

is anyone going through this.. i'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible. i just hope i do not have to feel like this forever i had to take the semester off of my senior year of college because i wanted to get to the bottom of these problems that have affected my whole life. just want to be normal again.

Anxiety :: Pounding Head Dizziness And Blurred Vision

For almost 6years I have experienced an attack involving a pounding head, dizziness and blurred vision. I am unsure of what this is. It started at the age of nine when I was in Egypt. I was getting food when all of a sudden I felt dizzy and couldn't see clearly (may I just add my vision on a day to day basis is very good) I was unsure of where to walk and couldn't see my family at my table. This same event has been taking place every once in a while, I do not know how often as I have not yet realised that .They usually occur in the morning. I have to take a few minutes to sit down with my head in my hands. I have not talked about this before.I am unsure what to classify this under so I have put it under anxiety as I have also identified some of the symptoms in my day to day life regarding my social life.

Finished those and then began having slight headaches, lots of nausea, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea and extreme exhaustion. I have had two blood tests and nothing shows up I have an ultrasound this week but does anyone have any idea of what this could be? I am a normally healthy twenty year old and this is keeping me from work and school!

Headaches / Migraines :: Headache And Blurred Vision For A Month

I don't know if im posting in the right place, but here it goes!! So this all started about a month ago, all I noticed was I was a bit more tired, no big deal I thought it was the change of season or something. I was like this for maybe a week before I woke up march 20th and felt very off. My normal routine is to go the gym in the morning, so I got myself up to get ready and realized I didn't think I could go, I felt very dizzy, lightheaded, pressure behind my eyes, stuffy nose, extremely heavy eyes, very fatigued, and a little spaced out. I drove to a walk in clinic by my house, they did routine blood work, checked my thyroid, checked for Epstein barr, and for mono, all negative. I did have a low grade fever if even that it was like 99.5. Now lets go back a few months...i have had a stuffy nose since November constantly blowing it with bloody discharge and i attributed it to the dry heat and the winter weather. I have also had many sinus infections in the past year. I didn't realize it until I thought about it. I also had a concussion, my third one back in August. Went to the ER and got a CT scan, everything was normal and they released me. 2 days later I went back to the ER, I was nauseas and it felt like my head was on fire and on CT scan they said I had inflamed nasal sinuses. Everything else was normal so they gave me antibiotics and i was released again. At that time I thought nothing of it and I got better in a few days. Now back to march 20th and the Dr. They knew of my previous sinus infection because I had went to them in December and they were surprised that since I saw them I was still stuffy, they gave me nasal spray and sent me home. A week later I still feel the same, exactly the same, maybe a little worse. I saw an allergist who tested me for allergies and of course everything was negative. I was so tired at work one day I had to lay down and close my eyes. Im just exhausted even after a full nights sleep and my eyes are so heavy. My headache lasted from march 20-27th and then subsided but still had all the other symptoms. Over that weekends I actually started feeling better everyday! I was sk happy and thought it was some sort of virus or something and it was going away. I still felt off but it started getting bad again April 3rd. This time it was all my symptoms but very exaggerated. Extreme fatigue, extremely heavy eyes, poor concentration, confusion, blurry vision in my right eye, spacing out, brain fog, sensitive to light, pressure behind my eyes, im forgetful, still a little stuffy but not nearly as bad, im a little pale and my headache is gone but my head still feels weird with weird pains that last a second. I went to my pcp on Monday and told him the whole story. He put me on a strong dose of antibiotics and some steroids. The next day I saw an optometrist and i am nearsighted and have an astigmatism in my right eye so i'm getting glasses. It was weird to me though because my vision just became blurry a few days before, unless i just didn't notice it before that and my eyes are always heavy, even as soon as I wake up which I think is weird. So the next day I saw my ENT and told him the whole story and he looked in my nose, flushed it, and took a sono of my sinuses and said my right paranasal sinus in very congested and I need a CT scan of my sinuses. I'm nervous about the CT scan because that will be the 5th CT scan I have had since my first in 2010 from my first concussion. I feel like that's a lot of radiation to my head and face i'm only 25 years old and I feel like that cant be the only reason I have all these symptoms. As soon as I got home from my ENT i noticed this painful hard lump next to my ear on my jaw. my dentist told me to come in and he said my TMJ joint was inflamed on my right side only and that it should go away in a few weeks, I do grind my teeth at night, but I think its weird that my right eye is now bad, my right paranasal sinus is very congested, and my right TMJ joint is inflamed! I see my neurologist. I have a neurologist in the first place because back in 2009 I had a what I thought was a vaccine reaction to the HPV vaccine. A few hours after I got it the room was spinning and I was so nauseous and weak. A week after that vaccine I was having trouble walking, tingling in my legs and arms, severe fatigue and weakness, severe headache. I got an MRI back then to rule out MS and did an EEG and an EMG all normal and after several months all the symptoms went away. So yesterday my neuro did a vertigo test which came back normal, now she wants me to get another MRI next week to rule out MS again and I'm terrified. I don't have any numbness or tingling or trouble walking but i'm so scared. My life was so normal and I was actually in the best place I've ever been in my life before this happened and now its all turning to ****. Im crying everyday because from the moment I wake up until the second I fall asleep I feel all the symptoms. They are getting worse, I am getting more frustrated, I am getting more scared that this is something serious because its not going away. Did this ever happen to someone else? Does anyone think this is really MS? I'm assuming my optometrist looked at my optic nerve and would have said something if it looked weird. I have also heard of silent migraines where u have all the symptoms of the migraines except the headache because I have also recently felt like im seeing flashing lights or its hard to explain but its like when im looking at a bright wall, its like I was just staring at static on a tv and then looked at the wall, except im always seeing it I find myself staring into space I have to like snap myself out of it. This whole experience is driving me crazy and i am so irritable and upset. I've also lost my appetite and i cant stop crying because this feeling wont go away it is affecting my life so negatively. I don't even know what to think i want to feel normal and I want my life back its affecting my job, my relationships with everyone, and myself and my happiness I want to do the things I used to. Im sorry for all the jumping around in the story and how long it is, I am very overwhelmed.

Perimenopause - Dizziness, Bouts Of Vertigo, Vision Getting Worse, Hair Loss

I'm 47. Have had PCOS since I was 13. No kids due to infertility, most likely caused by PCOS. OK, now onto the joy of being me part.

Been sick for over 20 years with various and sundry health issues, i.e, Lyme, Epstein-Barr, adrenal fatigue, MTHFR, etc. to name a few, but the last year or so I'm feeling sooooo much worse. Never had PMS, and now I get cramps a few days before the witch shows up. When she does show up, before when she would show up, she would last 5 or so days. Now she hits hard and fast, heavy for a days or so and then stops on day 2 or 3. Digestion has been horrible. I have so much gas and bloating in my upper stomach that I could power a small city and it's very uncomfortable. Total carb and sugar intolerance. My doc thinks it could be a bacterial infection called SIBO, but after reading everyone's symptoms here, it makes me wonder if it is Peri related. The worst anxiety and panic attacks of my life that hit out of nowhere, even when I am not worrying about stuff. Heart palps galore and according to numerous docs and tests, my heart is fine. Reflux. Overweight and can't lose weight. Emotional instability of a newborn. My mom died a few months ago and while I know grief can be at play, I can cry just watching a commercial. Dizziness, bouts of vertigo, vision getting worse, hair loss more than usual, chapped lips and back of hands, 0 and I mean ZERO sex drive. I almost feel repulsed by the idea. Luckily I have an incredibly understanding husband. Muscle and joint pain. Zero motivation to do anything. I am an incredibly creative person and have lost all my passions in and for life. Bone crushing fatigue. Sometimes wake up feeling like I'm trembling inside. Frequent waking up in the middle of the night.

These are the primary symptoms, though there are others. It's hard for me to tell which of these are Peri related and which are due to the other issues. I had a bunch of labs done in May and all my hormones were normal, including extensive thyroid testing. Can you be Peri and have normal labs? Very confused and ******. This crap is ruining my life. I can't even drive anymore due to the anxiety and dizziness and thus feel trapped in my house. I need to get this fixed as soon as possible. My doc thinks I am Peri and says we will work on it, but is trying to detox some of my other issues first.

Intense Headaches And Dizziness Whenever I Move

For three days now, I have been experiencing intense headaches and dizziness whenever I move. When I sit still, I cannot feel the headache, however, I do feel very lightheaded when I sit still. My eyes have also been extremely sore 24/7, and I have been experiencing the chills when it starts to get later into the night.

I have been taking my temperature very often the past few days and my temp hasn't been above 99 degrees F, so it is not a fever. I have also been hydrating myself profusely (dehydration was my first guess) and it is not dehydration.

I am a little worried since I have never really had issues with headaches or dizziness.

Vertigo / Dizziness :: Frontal Headaches And Ear Pressure

I am getting to be concerned now of my symptoms. I have a pressure feeling in my head with frontal headaches and ear pressure (left ear) and i often feel unsteady on my feet. I have been to my GP and she gave me some antibiotics and nasal spray. I have finished the antibiotics but still using the nasal spray but i don't feel any different. I went to an opticians about a month ago just to rule out anything serious and she ruled out a tumour because she said opticians can pick these up as they can tell by the pressure but i am getting worried again because i just don't feel right - my head doesn't feel clear, it always feel full and blocked. I want to ask for a scan when i next visit my GP in a couple of weeks as i can't help thinking there is something serious going on.

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea :: Dizziness And Now Headaches

Hi. I have been suffering with vertigo/dizziness (mainly swaying feeling) for 11 months. The past few months my head has been very strained and tense and I have been getting headaches everyday. I can feel my whole brain in my head (mainly the top and back) and my head often pounds. Looking up my diagnosis of vestibular neuritis (VN) explains many of my symptoms of the past 11 months but I am getting used to the dizziness and fatigue but the head pain/pressure/strain is far worse than the dizziness now. The symptoms I am experiencing at the moment seem to be that of migraine associated vertigo (MAV) as the symptoms people are explaining for this seem to better explain what I have been experiencing the past few months .I wake everyday feeling dizzy and with a very strained head like my head is too small for my brain and it gets worse until I get a headache (my whole brain aches). The past week or so the headache goes by the next day but for a while it would take two days or more to go away before returning again.

I have had a XRay of my neck (clear), Eye check (needed glasses for first time), CT-Scan of head (clear), Paid to see private ENT specialist (said not much he could do. Suggested as fatigue is so severe and I am a heavy snorer for me to have a sleep study. Results say I have severe obstructive sleep apnoea AHI 32), Seen an NHS Audiologist (all hearing, eye, balance tests don't show any problem with my vestibular system/balance system)

I am waiting for an NHS basic sleep study before they consider me for a CPAP machine for sleep apnoea. I have an appointment to have an operation to have a deviated septum corrected as I cannot breath very well through one nostril. I also have an appointment to see an ENT specialist on the NHS in April. When I see my GP soon I will ask to go on the waiting list to see an Neuro-otologist as they specialise in the brain and migraines. The past few months I have cut out  caffeine from my diet and I eat very healthily attending slimming world and I have lost 6.5 stone in 16 months. It has not been easy losing weight when I have been ill and feeling low but I have made it my mission to lose weight since becoming dizzy. My heart goes out to anyone with this condition. It is an invisible illness and most people don't understand or believe you are unwell. Please stay positive. My life has changed dramatically the past year and I am house bound most days but I have learnt to appreciate the little I can do and the great friends I have. My hope is fading that someday I will wake to find this problem has gone but at least there is some hope still within me. Take care my dizzy friends and may we all recover from this hell in 2015 x

Ear Disorders :: On Moving Head - Headaches, Dizziness And Swishing Noises

I have had this problem for two or three years now.   I get this feeling that comes over me like a flu type headache with feelings of dizziness.  The strangest feeling of all is the swooshing sound that I get when I do something as simple as move my eyes.My GP has tried various tablets such as stemetil but nothing works except a long sleep and usually that clears the problem.   It is really debilitating and I worry as I have to drive a lot and although I have never had any problems as such, I often feel so bad that I just want to pull over and stop. I also get a feeling of dread or depression coming over me when these bouts come on.

Severe Concussion Head :: Headaches, Loss Of Memory, Passing Out, Dizziness

Yesterday me and my friend were riding bike we were crossing and she crossed before me. When I went to go this lady cut me off with her car almost hitting me in the process. I started to ride and I think i may have passed out while riding because I remember my head hitting the concrete but it didn't hurt. I heard people yelling and my friend calling my name. I think I blacked out for a few seconds. I then stood up like nothing was wrong muttering I was fine. That's all I really remember for the next few minutes. I was told some lady was asking me my name but I wasn't really responding. My friend called her father and my mom. My mom was on her way to work she stopped by and I refuse to go to the hospital. I remember my mom leaving and my friends dad holding me against his chest. They took me to her house and I passed out on the sofa. Apparently I was shaking and I had half an eye open twitching while I was sleeping. My friends dad wanted to take me to the hospital but I convinced them I was fine. Now a day later I'm starting to worry because my symptoms include extreme headache loss of memory, passing out, dizziness extreme sweating in a cool environment, trouble falling asleep, but once asleep trouble waking up trouble moving my neck and head. My mom is the type to not worry about this thing she's convinced it's just a concussion, but I've done my research and I'm a little bit worried .

Vision / Eye :: Flying Black Dots In My Peripheral Vision

I'm not particularly worried about this but I'd rather know what it is. I quite commonly will get, after stretching or getting up suddenly, flying black dots in my peripheral vision. These tiny black dots just appear, fly in a direction, then disappear. A bit like a swarm of flies in the corner of my eye except they keep appearing and disappearing individually. It might last up to five seconds or so. Then it's gone and I feel fine. I'm pretty sure I've had this for years.
