Trimethoprim :: Painful Muscles Of Neck And Shoulders
Aug 30, 2012
I was put on this drug because I had a bad reaction to amoxicillin, I finished the course of these and just after that i started getting really bad headaches and it was affecting my eyes and also all my muscles started to get very painful,my neck and shoulders was the worse, my doc got blood tests done as he thought I might have polymyalgia but that came back clear so he put it down to a migraine, i've never suffered from headaches as bad as this one, this went on for 2 weeks and eventually it just went and all the pains went with it so after reading this i'm putting it down to these drugs and not a migraine. Has anyone else had a bad reaction after finishing the course of them?

Have suffered since childhood from cramps, mostly in legs but also in hands and arms. Now, in my sixties, suffer much at night with convulsive twitches in leg muscles or actual painful cramps - sometimes reaching my back up to shoulders. Usually accompanied by cold clamminess or hot sweats. When this happens sleep is not possible. Otherwise in good health.

I am 27 years old and I had chicken pox when I was 2. When the shingles came out, it took me down like nothing else. It has been almost a month since I noticed the rib pain. It started with sharp rib pains that hurt really bad and thought it was my spleen. Then about 4 days later I noticed a round sore right under my breast where the rib pain was occuring. Then a couple of days later, it showed up on my back, directly across from the other ones. I had no idea what this was... I waited to go to the hospital because I thought it was poison ivy! I waited about 8 days to go to the hospital. Had I had known what it was, I definitely would have gone immediately. Oh, the pain was excruciating! Ibuprofen did not even touch it. I was prescribed Acyclovir, Prednisone, and a cream that did not help. I was also prescribed Dilauded for the pain and Promethazine for nausea. It has been a week since I finished all of the medication. The shingles are almost gone but there are about 4 really bad areas and they do not look like they are healing. Since last week, I have developed little pimple like things all over my shoulders, face, neck, back and buttocks. I have no idea why they are there. Did anyone have the same reaction? They will not go away! Please help!

I have been on 400mg of Plaquenil for 7 months now, but for the last 2 months I have been experiencing muscle problems in my legs, it is so painful that I am yelling out with pain. I stopped taking the Plaquenil and the muscle problems stopped. My GP (American Dr) advised that the Plaquenil was the cause of my pain, although my GP (English) advised that he did not think it was the medication. I am now confused because once I stopped the medication my pain went away? I am now waiting to see my RA but have been waiting for 2 months now, and been on no medication since. Now my bloods are really high again and all my pains and symptoms are back. As anyone else had the same issue with this medication?

For the last month or so. I have been experiencing some very extreme pain in my chest. That travels basically all over the left upper side of my body. It virtually takes my breath away. It hurts worse whenever I go to get up or lay down. Or when I lean my head over to the left.

I am in my early 60s and have had facial paralysis (left side) and mini stroke in 2005. I have recently been diagnosed with Angina. I also have high blood pressure, diabetes and sciatic. Recently I have been getting lots of pain in my left arms, neck, both legs, shoulders, chest and ribs and pain has woken me up. I am due to have angiogram soon. Dr has given me GTN and Nicorandil. On my left side I get pain in my temple this side is affected by facial paralysis. I find it very difficult to walk and get very breathless. Just walking up the stairs I get very breathless. Does anyone else suffers from same symptoms? I feel I have no energy and I am housebound.

I've just had a blood test which showed vitamin D deficiency. I have very little energy, my muscles and joints are stiff and painful, and my feet really hurt when I try to walk any distance. I've always been very fit and active so I'm wondering whether I should push myself to exercise even though I don't feel like it or whether I risk making my condition worse by pushing myself too hard. I'm taking vitamin D supplements but I've seen from other posts on this forum that it might take months to get better. I find swimming less painful than walking or cycling so maybe that is okay?

I have been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatitis and prescribed a 28 day course of 200 mg Trimethoprim tablets along with 2.5mg of Oxybutynin for the same period. Started the treatment several days ago having taken 4 tablets of each drug. There are no immediate side effects apart from a slight dizzyness. Having read the posts about the bad reactions to this drug,it has given me great concern over the long period I have to take these tablets. Are there any other readers to this website who have taken this drug for the same period of about a month ?

I went to physical therapy for TMJ 4 days ago, I'm 31 years old. While massaging my jaw the physical therapist went on to my neck, and without me knowing out of nowhere cranked my neck super hard and it popped 3 times on the left side. My neck has been stiff on the left ever since with some pain and when I walk I hear loud clicking crackling/pop rocks sounds in my neck right before it meets the shoulders. Did he injure me? anyone else experience this? will it go away.
I was so upset he cracked my neck like that he isn't even a chiropractor but said afterwards when I got upset with him that he knows chiropractor movements.
I've never been to a chiropractor so I don't know how it compares but it seems really hard and forceful when he did it. Its weird that when I move my neck I don't hear the sound, only when walking. Someone please advise me on this.
Also what type of doctor should I see for this issue, i'm going to schedule an appointment tomorrow, but don't know the type of doctor who would be best. My GP just gave me ibuprofen and said it should go away on it's own.

I have felt uneven for years. My mom has been diagnosed with scoliosis, and my doctors have checked me at every yearly appointment since I was 12. I feel uneven (like if you were to draw a line down the middle it wouldn't be equal), one shoulder (right) is higher than the other, I have neck/shoulder pain, and I feel like my right side of my ribs press are farther away from the midline, like my left side is pushing them over. I feel The only thing is that I am overweight. So I am wondering if it possible for the doctors to have missed it. I am 19 and I am afraid I am going to continue on without answers or being taken seriously. My parents and friends don't believe me. Is it possible I can feel scoliosis from the inside (the uneven feeling I have)?

Had stroke 13 years ago. Have suffered anxiety ever since. Mainly dizziness. Recently came off citalopram after 8 years, started on sertraline. Never felt worse in my life......including severe diarrhea. Dr now stopped sertraline and put me on propranolol one week ago. Still feel awful and dizziness possibly worse. Will anything ever work?

i'm having this issue since junior high that i have uneven shoulders that cause massive confidence breakdown with me, all shirts look weird on me and im definitely feels shy to open my shirt in a pool. starting now i intend to bulk more muscle to achieve a better posture and fix these issue for having even shoulders and muscles for the long run. do you guys have an advice or any members here that have this same issue so i can have someone to relate to? I'm freakishly scared by the prospect of disease that i might have by surfing the net, Poland's Syndrome and Winged Scapula are some of my assumption. But i am already verified by my chiropractor that i have mild scoliosis about 18 degrees.

I have recently been made aware that I am vit d deficient , following feeling extremely rough for a considerable period of time .
Symptoms have included:
severe pain in my shoulders , elbows ,hips
loss of muscle strength
poor coordination , very wobbly at times
excessive sweats
fluctuating body temperature - sudden change from comfortable to freezing or the other extreme excessive Heat !!
extreme tiredness
lethargy..... To name a few
I have found this forum really informative ,and reassuring hearing that with vit d supplements a lot of writers have noticed a big difference in their symptoms.
my question is once diagnosed as vit d deficiency is this something that is prone to drop in the future ?or following a course of supplements does your own immune system usually maintain its levels ?

I was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago. Many ups and downs. I've now been told - PMR in remission. Inflammation and blood count almost normal. However, I still have quite bad pains ( shoulders/arms/wrists/hips). Thought Dr said PMR was in remission!! Has anyone else suffered like this?

I have had pain on the left side of my neck for about three years now. About 4 months ago I felt a Marble size bump on the same side as my neck pain. My neck pain does not stop me from doing things. I can move it side to side and up and down etc. The neck pain is more like a pain that doesn't go away but like I said it doesn't stop me from doing things. What could this be? Can anyone help me with this? I have a doctors appointment at the end of September.
