Thyroid :: Scared Of Taking Nature-Throid Due To Side Effects
Apr 16, 2016
I've just been diagnosed with Hashimoto, and been doing quite some research. My MD and I decided on Nature-Throid. The lowest dose possible 16,25mg. But I'm terrified of taking it, cause I keep reading about heart related side effects. I must admit that I suffer from anxiety, which doesn't help any. I was wondering if at that low of a dose major side effects are likely? Any experience with Nature-Throid?
My thyroid levels are:
TSH: 3.4
T4: 1.31
T3: 3.5
TPO: 170
TPO: 170

My natural doctor thinks that switching me from synthroid to nature throid will help my T3 levels come up. My T4 is fine but somewhere along the line my body is not converting the T4 into enough T3. Has anybody ever experienced the switch? I am open to the good, bad and ugly.

Had my thyroid removed 2001 and was on Synthroid for 11 years. Felt awful the entire time, was always very tired, gained lots of weight, dry skin and hair, the whole bunch of symptoms so finally I dug my heels in and did not take anything for 3 months. Very dangerous but was tired of being so confused could not find my way home when I was a block from home. So the doctor put me on Armour and then I switched doctors and the new one put me on Nature-throid. I'm still very tired and sleep a lot, my neck hurts where the thyroid was removed 11 years ago, drainage from that area. Any suggestions for a different med that actually works without exacerbating my symptoms?

I had RAI treatment for Graves 15 years ago. I have only been on Synthroid since. I have ranged form 125 mcg to 200 mcg. I never felt completely well. None of the endos (I have seen them all) in town would prescribe NDT. In November of 2012 I found a wonderful OB/GYN that has a wellness practice. He is very into integrative medicine. Finally, I found someone that will prescribe NDT.
These are my labs while on 175-200 mcg (alternating) of Synthroid.

Taking 175 200 mcg Synthroid during these test. Not feeling well, fatigued, hair falling out. Switched to 2 grains of Nature Throid after these tests......

I finally saw a naturopathic physician and she agreed that TSH levels over 4 were not good. So, she put me on a half tab of Nature throid to start. I see her again in a week.
This is my first time on meds and I'm just wondering what I should be looking for as far as results? If they work, is it like coming out of a fog or something? How long does it take to start to notice the effects?
I've been this way for as long as I can remember, so suddenly having energy or feeling perky or something like that would be really strange for me. I'm not expecting a miracle, but I can't say I'm not hoping for one.
I also have high blood sugar, so I'm supposed to cut things like beer and sugar, etc. out of my diet. She also thinks I have a dairy allergy, so I have to cut that out for a week to see how it goes. I note that Nature throid has lactose in it though... Weird.
Anyway, I'm just looking for some advice or guidance through the process.
She's a great doc and, I have to say, that actually having someone listen to my symptoms and BELIEVE me was dang near one of the best experiences of my life. I got all choked up when I left!
Oh, and meanwhile, I still haven't even received a call from my PCP's office regarding the blood tests I took over 3 weeks ago. Nice.

i was hypo on 1 grain nature throid with a tsh of 5...lot of pains too on 1.5 grains i was still having many aches and pains at 6 weeks and hair still falling out....and at 2 grains 6 weeks later i was having severe heart paps so i knew i was hyper or it just not suited for me.....hence i felt bad at 1.5 grains and funny at 2 grains.....
so i went back to 1.5 grain and still had heart pap and felt bad so after a week of trying a grain every other day....
i gave up and went back to 100mcg of synthroid and heart paps stopped.....my hair loss was less the week i started on synthroid....which shocked me....alot less.....
but today i did have some pulling feeling in my neck and a head twitch is what i call it...those symptoms that are not constant but fleeting when the thyroid is changing
...and wondered has anyone else went from nature throid back to synthroid....

I am a vocal coach, and around about 30 students a week. I have developed Spondylitis in my hips and my Dr prescribed Enbrel after a 2 month period of taking large amounts of Aleve and cortisone shots in hips and sacroiliac joint. I am terrified of the side effects. I teach voice all day and that is my income. I am afraid of getting sick and losing work but the pain from the arthritis can on some days be very depressing. Feel between a rock and a hard place.

For those of you who are just starting to take omeprazole, please stop and find other alternatives!!! I have endured so much agony from this medication since I first started taking it last year. You might feel better initially but if you take it for longer than 2 weeks, you will find it extremely difficult, if not impossible to get off of it because the rebound acid is a killer.
On top of that, I've experienced some horrible side effects (which I've never had before):
- exercise-induced tachycardia: extremely fast and uncontrollable heartbeat (over 200 bpm).
- heart palpitations and irregular heartbeat
- anxiety
- chest pains
- extreme fatigue
- depression
I am a healthy, physically active 34 yr old female and was prescribed omeprazole for a mild stomach irritation or suspected ulcer. I stayed on it for several months with few symptoms at the time. However, going off of it was another story. Because these pills stop your stomach from producing acid, it burns and hurts enormously when you try to go off of it. As well, after I managed to wean myself off (I had to go through a juice fast in order to do it), I started developing digestive issues I'd never had before like heartburn and reflux. I believe it is these pills which have caused it as I'd never had heartburn until taking it.
And now, having been on it a 2nd time, I've developed the list of symptoms above which have caused me endless grief!
I've read other stories of people having the same symptoms as well as a host of other problems like osteoporosis because it drains your body of calcium.
More people need to know about the dangers of this medication. I read about people staying on this for years and developing even more conditions!

I was diagnosed w/Graves disease 5 yrs ago after presenting with atrial fibrillation, bp 214/125,tremors;sweating & other symptoms- (I thought previous to this I was in menopause so I hadn't gone to the dr.)-Dr did bloodwork for thyroid and sd my tests were the highest he'd seen in his 50 years of practice- wanted me to go ER but I couldn't as I was the caregiver for my mom w/Parkinson's- To make a long story short, he gave me 20 mg methimazole, atenolol, paxil (I was a nervous wreck) 25 mg hctz and 1 aspirin.
After 1 yr methimazole was dropped to 15mg and now 10mg because I was doing so well my tests were indicating Hypothyroid rather than Hyper. So, up & down and up & down for 5 long years. Lately, I have been HOT & Cold on the same day, hair & skin very dry, cold feet and hands, joint pains in lower back and knees and some days can't walk well due to knees- has this happened to anyone? Computer suggested Hashimoto's symptoms and I cannot go to the Dr for 3 months due to finances- I am currently taking 0-10 mgs methimazole,10 mg paxil, 25 mg hctz and 1 aspirin- I tried cutting the methimazole for a month and everything SEEMED ok, but then got scared and went back on it- additionally, my weight has gone from 119 lbs to 165 in 5 yrs- Cannot lose weight no matter what I do; another indication of HYPO- Dr says weight gain is my body responding to disease and I was underweight when I was 119 lbs at 5'6"- HUH? I read that some of the side effects for methimazole are MY LIFE- Anyone have any suggestions?

I would like to know just what happens when a person stops taking their thyroid medication; I had a TT a few months ago. Like apparently a lot of other people, I have lost medical insurance. I want to know literally what happens to the body once I quit taking the levothyroxine, and is it painful? How long before a person's body shuts down and coma happens?

I had a complete thyroidectomy four years ago (removed thyroid, two parathyroids and two lymph nodes) and have been taking my meds (112mcg) regularly until I lost my insurance 6 months ago. I can't afford insurance and can't get help with insurance anywhere! I'm now back to work and my health is RAPIDLY declining. I'm retaining fluid like crazy, tired constantly, headaches, severe body cramps, lymph nodes in my neck are so enlarged other people are noticing them, constipated, blurry vision, deep and severe spine pain, ect. I can't afford to pay out of pocket to see a doctor so they can renew my thyroid meds for me! The appointment will cost me around $400 for visit and bloodwork. Are all of these symptoms from being off of my thyroid meds? This has never happened before but I've always been very strict with taking my thyroid meds until now. Btw I'm only 27 years old.

I am a 47 year old male (right weight for height) and reasonably fit running three times a week who has recently had to visit the doctor (first time in years) for severe neck pain caused by strenuous gardening work -so called leisure.
However my blood pressure was checked over the past few weeks and has found to be continuously very high ranging 190/115 to 150/90. My GP has decided to put me on ramipril starting with 2.5mg increasing to 5 mg and then 10mg over six weeks. On reading the comments about side effects I am really concerned which has now possibly increased my blood pressure further - really concerned on what to do, should I get a second opinion through my private medical before starting this treatment?

I am about to use Viagra and I am a lot scared. I have never needed it but I guess I do now. So who knows about this drug, are there serious side effects. I do not want to trade one problem for another due to the drug itself.

I used the tablets for 5 months and a bit, should be taking it for 6 months but i decide to give into not taking them due to really bad side effects.
When i started, i took 2 TWICE a day for 4 months but, rashes appeared on my cheeks, completely red and skin dried also on my nose. I couldn't bear the suffering, i applied creams like E45 (made things worse for me) then i switched to sudocrem, applying it to my face where the rashes were. this seemed to help stop the rash from getting any worse. I went to see the doctor who said i should cut down on the tabs to 1 Twice a day so i finally started to heal from the rashes. I carried on using the tabs this way until the rashes appeared on my nose again, it was really bad.
To those who suffer from Eczema, be warned as this course may effect it, making it really bad. This is the reason why i have to quit from this 6 month course (am finishing on 5 and a bit months) As for acne, it helped clear it up nicely even old scars until a point where my skin could heal no further ( i stayed the same after the 3rd month) so hopefully, changes are permanent and my side effects will go away from stopping this course.

Put on this drug for HBP 2.5mg then 5 mgs had various problematic side effects went to doctor to advise him of my problems with this drug. He then increased the dosage to 10 mgs which I have taken now for 2 months and the problems have multiplied to a point when I have become so ill with all the problems highlighted in these messages that I stopped taking the drug and started to feel better within 3 days. I wonder now what the reaction will be from my GP when I tell him that I want to try an alternative drug. Having high blood pressure I could do without worrying about his comments which other people have endured when they have asked to have an alternative drug.
