View 5 RepliesI have had a raised parathyroid hormone blood result recently also a raised calcium in the blood result. I had raised calcium levels several years ago but after a scan of my parathyroid glands which showed no growths it was put down to lack of Vitamin D and called secondary parathyroidism
I was told to increase my Vitamin D levels which I did and my calcium level dropped. I have continued on the supplementation. I have severe sleep problems, am tired and grumpy, my hypothyroidism been under control for the last 8 years. I am borderline diabetic. Almost 73 years old.
Why are my T4 levels and Cortisol levels low?
I have been having symptoms of depression, fatigue, low libido and weight gain over the last few years. I am 50 and have gone through menopause. My latest lab results are:
TSH 1.064 (0.358-3.74)
Free T4 9.7 (9.8-18.8)
ferritin 16 (3-105)
B12 498 (156-672)
Cortisol 28 (155-570)
RBC's normal
I am not taking any thyroid meds......only nexium and Cymbalta.
What do these results mean? Can someone give me some insight into the results please?
I have very recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've taken the thyroid uptake scan and my dr. Office says it came back abnormal and enlarged thyroid.
According to my blood work my TSH is 0.227. (0.450-4.500)T4/free is 1.80 (0.82-1.77)
My question is should medication begin with these levels?
I am a 27 year old male. For some time I've shown symptoms of a lack of sex drive and erectile dysfunction but as I suffer from anxiety always attributed it as the cause. I had some blood tests done privately and my results showed a slightly raised prolactin level but my testosterone seems average.
TSH 0.70 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2)
Prolactin 397 mIU/L (86 - 324)
Testosterone 21.3 nmol/L (7.6 - 31.4)
SHBG 35 nmol/L (16 - 55)
The results seem to suggest Prolactinoma but a common side effect is low testosterone where my results prove otherwise. I'm afraid if I speak to my doctor he will tell me it is all in my head so I'm trying to make some sense of the results.
I guess the question I'm asking is is it possible to have raised Prolactin/Prolactinoma and normal looking testosterone levels?
Should I speak to my doctor anyway?
I just received my latest thyroid lab results and my TSH was a 0.06 (range 0.34-5.60) and my T4 FREE is 0.99 (range of 0.61-1.12). My Dr said to continue my dosage of medications and we would recheck in a year. Should I be concerned
View 2 RepliesI've had Hashimoto's Disease for 12 years and started taking Levothyroxine. For the past 8 years, I've been on a constant dose, and been very happy with no symptoms of hyper or hypo. Recently I moved and had to go to a new dr, who is very upset about the low (almost zero) TSH even though my Free T3 and Free T4 were normal. She wants me to totally go off all Levothyroxine for 6-8 weeks to "reset" my pituitary. I am very worried about what will happen to me if I did this. I tried going down in dosage, but all my hypo symptoms (gained 10 lbs in a month, extreme lethargy, depression, etc.) returned. Anyone out there have any ideas on what to do?
View 4 RepliesI was diagnosed with hypo this past november but i started feeling sick in september of 2011 when i was 17, im 19 now and my life has changed drastically due to this! My hair was falling out at a rapid rate, i was gaining weight even though i barely eat and had some really bad mood swings! Went to the doc and prescribed me levothyroxine 50mg it has been 9months since im on this medication, my levels are back to normal but i still feel as though nothing has changed, my hair is falling out i'm almost bald, its really hard to lose weight and according to my mom i have become unbearable! How long does it take to see actual progress with levothyroxine? does your hair grow back at all? will i ever feel better? i just want my life back :'( I had take a year off university because of this and i need to know if anything is gonna change! I'm sorry for the long note i'm just fed up and frustrated, thank you for your time i really appreciate it :D
View 5 RepliesI got labs done and my tsh is 4.83 range .50 to 4.30
Free t4 1.5 range .8 to 1.8
Free t3 3.8 range 2.3 to 4.2
My ferritin was extremely low only 13
My issue here is my free t3 and free t4 are both In the upper range yet my tsh is high do I have hypothyroid ?
I have joint pain and hairloss . I'm a 19 year old male . Many women in my family have hyper and hypo thyroid issues .
Looking at my t3 and t4 my thyroid looks optimal to me yet the high tsh has me confused .
I have no issues gaining or losing weight I just have a very puffy face .
I was feeling itching dryness, heat in hands & feet so i contacted doctor. he suggested TSH, RANDUM SUGAR, ALT tests. After conducting tests the report indicated normal sugar & ALT but high TSH 12.2 (RANGE WAS 0.4 TO 4.5). after that FREE T3 & T4 TESTS CONDUCTED. T3 was 1.3 (range 0.6 to 1.6) and T4 was 7.0 (range 4.9 to 11.7). this all is done in last two days and uptill now no medicine is taken yet. i am very anxious about the situation so please suggest me the best solution, treatment, medication, precautions of this problem.
View 2 RepliesLast week I found that my my TSH was 5.73 mIu/L and shortly after that, that my Thyroid Peroxidase AB was 393 Iu/mL. My T4, Free came back at 1.3 ng/dI which I believe is in the normal range. I am currently waiting on my Thyroglobulin AB. Has anyone has an elevated TSH and Thyroid Peroxidase AB but a normal range T4 and still been diagnosed with a Thyroid problem?
View 6 RepliesI am 37 years old and about 16 weeks pregnant. When I had my first set of prenatal labs, my TSH came back as low at 0.0643. They called me back in to do a thyroid panel, and I just got my results back which were TSH 0.092, free T3 3.6, and free T4 0.95. The nurse made note that T3 and T4 were in normal range, but TSH is "very low" and they referred me to maternal fetal medicine. The doctor's note says "may need small dose of Synthroid."
I am very confused now. Doesn't a low TSH mean HYPERthyroidism? And wouldn't Synthroid be for HYPOthyroidism? I am finding so much conflicting information online, and I have to wait until my appointment on the 21st to get an answer on all this. Of course, it's all making me very nervous. Can someone help explain or shed some light on my lab results as far as what they could mean? I was seeing that a lower-ish T4 and low TSH can actually indicate hypo, so I'm really confused now.
Received my results back with no explanation as usual haha.. shows my anti tpo as <6 is that normal range?
View 1 RepliesIs it normal to retain water while on Synthroid? I never experienced water retention before I began my Synthroid. Now that I am on Synthroid, I am retaining water pretty badly. I often wake up with swollen fingers and I tend to weigh 5 or 6 pounds more in the morning than I do in the evening. This is very out of character for me. Anything I can do to help alleviate this issue?
View 7 RepliesMy son had some blood work done due to chronic diarrhea among many other things (he's on the autism spectrum, ADD, sweetest kid ever-had to throw that in) and we were trying to rule out celiac and who knows what else. Anyway his TSH and Free T4 were normal, but his Free T3 was slightly high. We rechecked it 4 weeks later and it's still just slightly high, with the other numbers being normal. His doctor thinks we shouldn't worry and should just monitor, I'm just looking for any advice if anyone has seen this because I keep reading that typically Free T3 is high when TSH is low?

Just recently I was diagnosed with a small goiter & nodule on the left side. The doctor ordered all of the tests (TSH, T4 and TPO antibody level) and everything came back normal. The biopsy on the nodule is normal as well. Benign and no signs of cancer. My concern now is regarding my goiter & nodule. If my test results are all normal, what caused it to enlarge? What do I do to shrink it? My doctor will not give me anything because he said there's nothing wrong with my thyroid. The functions are normal. It just enlarges for a reason sometimes.
View 2 RepliesHas anyone ever had normal lab values but over 500 protein in their urine? And Bilirubin was only slightly elevated. Normal creatinine levels no diabetes or high blood pressure, have had severe weight loss appetite loss and night sweats which is what I went in for (thought thyroid but was not!) Was referred to nephrologist, not sure what to expect.
View 1 Repliesmy cholesterol is fine but been to ae the nurse and she told me i have to take atorvastatin?
View 3 RepliesI'm a 19 year old male, I have been smoking for about 2 years now, like 4-10 cigarettes a day.
I had my testosterone levels checked and it was 911 ng/dL, which apparently is high.
Why aren't my erections fully hard as they used to be? And why do I feel my libido has dropped?
A Dr told me it takes longer for smoking to cause ED, and he told me the problem is all in my head.
What is the normal fasting blood sugar level for pregnant women? I'm wondering if it is higher for pregnant women due to having extra blood volume in the body?
View 1 RepliesI found out about 6 months ago that I have high prolactin levels. They have put me on 2 different medications to reduce the levels. The first one made me sick so they lowered the dose. I am still experiencing abdominal cramps when I take them and my doctor doesn't seem to be concerned about it.
