Successful Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation Reversal - Anyone?

Just looking for advice. I just had a tubal reversal Sx done on 3/5 and am currently on the the mend as I ran into an infection. That aside, the Dr. said my tubes were "beautiful" and the reconnection  of both was successful. I'm 39 and my new, (almost 2 years) husband in 41. He has no children of his own; I have three ages 15 to 18. Just looking for experiences like mine and if pregnancies were successfully produced through a tubal reversal.

Tubal Ligation :: Benefits, Risks And Alternatives - My Experience

I've seen lots of threads on here about how much TL 'ruined' women's lives. Sex drive, attitude, etc. Many I've read on here are upset because they want to have more kids now, 1, 3, or even 10 years later.

If you're considering having a TL done, remember that the doctor shouldn't be blamed. At the doctor's office, prior to surgery, you HAVE to sign an Informed Consent form. I work in medical records as a registered technician. I see this forms all the time - and I signed one for my procedure. When I review a medical record, I have to look for the phrase "discussed / reviewed Benefits, Risks and Alternatives.." in the patient history and physical. If your Dr. is not reviewing those 3 things with you, you have 2 choices: be proactive about YOUR body and ASK or find another doctor!

My dr. did not go over the risks, but he did try to get me to go a different route (alternative) and discussed how beneficial it would be vs. hormonal methods or implants (IUD). However, I hold nothing against him. I did my research prior to the ELECTIVE surgery. SO, just saying, it's not all on the doctor. Patients need to take responsibility for their decisions.

I've heard a lot about PTLS - post tubal ligation syndrome. I do find it interesting so many women share the same effects, however I am curious as to how blocking the fallopian tubes messes with hormone levels. Very curious , as I've not seen anything on the PTLS boards linking them. I won't discount it though. However, maybe a small handful of those women who have PTLS have lack of sex drive because they are depressed. Maybe they are depressed because they regret their decision to have a TL done. Those with heavy bleeding, consider what your period was like before you were ever on a birth control pill. So many of us have spent many many years on BC hormonal pills that we get used to a predictable period that is identical every month. Pills regulate the cycle - pills dictate when you will bleed. Take that  away and you give your body a chance to do it's own thing. Most women though stop the pill to 1-switch to another, 2- get pregnant or 3- have their tubes tied. If you go straight from pill to pregnancy to TL, you don't know what kind of period is normal for you.

Again, not discounting PTLS, BUT I want those considering a very effective surgery ( or even Essure now! ) to not be scared if they truly want it.
Now, remember, it is considered a "major surgery" , even in laparoscopic form as I had following birth. I won't lie , for me the recovery was horrible. I elected to be awake for the procedure, with just a spinal block. I did this so I wouldn't be too groggy to see my baby afterwards. Also, it was really interesting participating in conversation during the procedure!! Anyway, when the numbness wore off, I could not even walk to the bathroom without feeling like "please, let me just pee in my pants and someone clean me up - don't wanna move!". Eventually it got easier to walk, but getting up was the worst for about 9 days. Glad I didn't have a Csection, I now can't see why anyone would elect one of those! but I digress.. SO, after I was healed, stitches dissolved (small piece not completely, but I just pulled it and it came right out and I was fine.. granted this was after 3 weeks, I'd NEVER recommend this ), I couldn't wait to have unprotected, uninhibited sex with my husband! No worries of another baby, no worries of "did I take my pill?" (and no worries of affording the pill!).. Maybe I was and am not depressed and losing my sex drive (it's increased ten fold) because I genuinely 100% know for a fact that I am done having babies. My husband is done. We are happy with the 3 miracles we have and are enjoying our newest baby. Sure, I'm tired sometimes, but I have a 15 week old baby. I take care of myself, eat well and exercise 6  days/ week. I am active with my kids. I work a full time / over time job in the hospital.

I just wanted to put it out there that not ALL women who have a tubal ligation live to regret it (I've seen so many "you will regret it" posts, and I think, how do you know what I will regret?!)

Good luck, I hope I've helped at least one person! Not to sway you into it or away from it, but to give you insight into a positive experience.

Post Tubal Ligation Irregular / Frequent And Prolonged Periods

I had my third baby 2/15/11 and my bilateral tubal ligation 2/16/11. No complications after the laparoscopic surgery. Breastfed and formula fed together from the beginning, pumping from about 4 weeks to 6 weeks until I went back to work and supply diminished. Bled after birth until 5 weeks, when I had my post natal appointment. Started first period after that around 3 weeks later (baby was 8 weeks). It was 'normal' for me - lasted about 6 days, had cramps before and the first 2 days. All normal for me. I know my normal cycle because I had not been on BC for about 8-9 months before becoming pregnant and was very regular until the month before I got pregnant. So anyway, had my second period beginning may 6 and lasting til may 11. Again, all very normal for me. My husband and I had regular intercourse probably about every other day during the time I was not bleeding, with only the tubal ligation as birth control. 17 days after I stopped my second period, on may 23, I began spotting. It was very light, and I thought it was sex-related. It varied from brownish to light red to slight pinkish. The next day the same. The third day I needed a tampon, but only a light one. After that for a few days I bled more heavily, but not as heavy as the start of a normal period -- about how I normally would towards the second 1/2 of my regular periods. On most days during this I would go several hours with no bleeding and think it was all over. I went all last night with only a pantyliner which was ahem, not needed by the time I woke up this morning. However, I got to work and around 9am it started, very very light again. This is day 11.

Any ideas? Please no hijacking here, I am looking for some help.

I've called my GYN and left a msg for the MA or nurse to call me about it but that was yesterday morning and I've not yet heard back. . .

To mention, this long 11 days has had NO cramping whatsoever.

Trying To Conceive After A Tubal Reversal

I had a Tubal Reversal 02/22/2013. I had 9cm on right tube and 10 cm on left. My cycles are average 23 days. My first cycle came 02/23/2013 and lasted until 02/27/2013. We started TTC my second cycle which came 03/18/2013 and lasted until 03/22/2013. Both of my cycle were normal after surgery. We had intercourse 03/20, 03/22, 03/24, 03/26, 03/27, and 03/28. I believe I ovulated on the 27th (according to an ovulation calendar) I am now 10 DPO and I have been experiencing some pain on my left side, cramps that come and go as well as bloating, headaches, heartburn, slight heaviness in lower abdomen, a weird metal taste that comes and goes, really moody, unable to have a BM , tender itchy breast, dull lower back pain, a slight runny nose, and itchy skin mainly on my lower stomach. I do not remember having any of these symptoms with my last pregnancy 9 years ago, and I did not have these symptoms with my last cycle. I also know I am at risk for a tubal pregnancy. My next period is not due until 04/10. I took a first response pregnancy test this morning and it showed a FAT negative :'( . MD said its prob ovulation and constipation, but I just feel pregnant. Can anyone please give me some advice?

Hemorrhoid Rubber Band Ligation (Barron's Ligation) Experience

I had two internal hemorrhoids banded yesterday in a painless procedure and painless aftermath. At the Thornhill Endoscopy here in Toronto, they performed a thorough examination by sigmoidoscopy first, to determine that there are no other issues. They then proceeded to band my hemorrhoids. Sedation was offered and which I took - felt awesome as I drifted into a sleep. When I awoke a few minutes later I asked if I was banded and the nurse said yes. I then asked if my rectum was frozen or something and they said no. I couldn't feel the bands. The only sensation is a mild bit (VERY MILD) of fullness - which is what I felt before with the hemorrhoids. I was worried before going in that I could be in a lot of pain, but that is totally not the case - NO PAIN. And they told me that no further banding is needed at this time and that what they did should do the trick.

Their recommendation is no lifting for 2-3 weeks. No bike riding for the same time. To take their over-the-counter prescription of stool softeners for 15 days. DO NOT bear down. Eat a high fiber diet. Otherwise get back to life. And today is day 2 - went shopping, walking and feel totally great. Again, the only sensation is a little tiny bit of fullness, which is normal considering the hemorrhoid has been bandied which makes it swell, until it falls off.
The important thing for me is to ensure that I don't bear down and create a new hemorrhoid, especially over the next couple of weeks.

Tubal Ligation And The Chance For A Tubal Pregnancy?

I first want to start out by saying that I had a tubal ligation after my twins were born 12/13/2006. I have four living children and one still birth.

My period was due to start on Tuesday (December 4th) it is now Friday (December 6). On Monday I had some very light spotting for a few hours and then it stopped. My period has yet to start. I know that there is a rare chance that the ligation did not take. How long should I wait before calling my ob doctor? What things should I keep an eye out for? Any suggestions would be great as this is scary to me since I know that there still is the chance for a tubal pregnancy and do not want to think of my children having to go through life without me.

Enough Uterine Lining Required For Tubal Reversal?

I had the NovaSure procedure done over three years ago. I had my tubes tied eight years ago. I'm getting married and my fiancé, who doesn't have children, would like to have a baby. I still have a period, however, it's minimal to none (only brown discharge for four to five days). I've heard that doctors won't reverse your tubes unless you have enough of a uterine lining. Last ultrasound I had showed a good lining. I'm not sure if it was enough of one to sustain a pregnancy. I really want to know what my options are.

Post Vasectomy Pain After 2 Years Of Reversal

I had a Vasectomy back in 2010 and had a Vasectomy Reversal in 2012.  My pain was extreme from 2010-2012 and relieved about 50% after the Reversal.  I have extreme pain on my left testicle after any kind of sexual activity and random pain throughout the day some days unbearable.  In the past I had radiating pain on my left leg and buttox but that was prior to the reversal.   Its just on my left side, not my right.

I take antibiotics once in awhile from my doctor, but it doesn't seem to help.  I have pain in my upper epididymis as well as pain in my testicle.  Feels like it's being squeezed. I honestly feel like this Vasectomy has stolen my life from me.
