Spots / Acne :: How Long Oxytetracycline Takes To Effect?
Aug 14, 2008
I have been using a lotion called dalacin t topical lotion from about october 2007, it really improved the big spots i used to get on my back, and it helped my face a little, but not much.So i went back to the doctors and she prescribed me with Oxytetracycline, which i take 2 tablets 2 times a day, so in total 4 a day. I have been on them for a month on this monday coming up (18th), that will then be a month, i think the doctor told me they would take about 3 weeks to a month to have a visual effect, im just hoping they do work! how has everyone's experience been with this medication? how long did it take for it to start working?

My 14 year old son used oxytetracycline 250mg 2 a day for 4 months ( should have been 6 really) for his terrible acne. Poor boy had spots on his face, neck, back and in his hair ( ouch) his G.P was great and we stuck to the course and now he's almost 15 .........not a mark, spot or pimple........he's also got his confidence back , acne can knock these kids for six. so after trying the cream, lotions, cutting out foods you name it we tried it .......

I've been plagued by acne all my life. I have now discovered (age 35) that Oxytetracycline is a wonder drug and really does work (2 tablets 2x daily) with differin gel. The only thing is.... how long can I take it for. I've been on it 1 year now, with no side effects. Can I take it indefinitely? Anyone know?

My wife has had migraines every day since January 2014. The last 9 months have been very difficult. We have tried many types of medication/treatments.
Currently she is trying Gabapentin (600mg per day).
Does anybody know how long it can take for Gabapentin to have an effect?
Is it possible for Gabapentin to make migraines worse?

I have been in depression for quite a few years now with one adversity following other. Have been on Mirtazapine 15 mg for 5 days now. How long does it take to show benefits?
Resorted to meditation for healing self and keep myself going personally and financially. Now felt unable to carry on and felt like doing something drastic.
Went to the doctor last week to tryy out medication and was prescribed Mirtazapine 15 mg.
Slept well the 1st day but was restless the next. Hit the treadmill in the evenings from 3rd day for the fear of staying awake and the mind wandering. This helped me tire out and sleep, but feel totally down, frustrated, hopeless and angry during the day.

I have been on a gluten free diet for about 4 weeks now. I had originally went on this diet because I am having the same symptoms and someone that may have a gluten sensitivity bad headaches, feeling very fatigued, joint pain, depression, numbness and foggy brain I was to a point where I couldn't get the word out of my mouth that I was trying to say and that's the point where I really started to research some things. I went to a neurologist and had an M.R.I. done all came back negative the Dr. said there is nothing wrong with me. Quite frankly I can't believe this so I started doing my own research since I wasn't going to get help from that Dr. I do plan on getting a second opinion done here soon, But none the less frustrating. So I found that pretty much all the symptoms that describe a gluten sensitive individual is everything I felt as well, so I thought I might as well give this a shot. I started this diet 2 weeks in I noticed that the numbness went away for the most part the pain still lingered the foggy brain hasn't shown its ugly face still fatigued and still had the headaches. So now 4 weeks in the numbness and the pain has been coming back more frequently and the headaches are still around foggy brain is still gone for now. But as the numbness and pain intensify and start showing up more often now it kind of makes me think am I really having to do this diet, and for the record I am not one of those people that cheat diets nor thinks its okay to cheat a diet especially with this kind of health dependency. I have been very strict with this hence why the frustration with it seeming like its not helping so high. I have done my research on the hidden gluten what to look for etc I actually try to buy only certified gluten free foods that say on the packages. I mean if all I have to do is change my diet to a gluten free one and it changes my life for the better because of this i'm all on board not just half way. Some places I read 6 weeks others say 6 months before you start to add wheat back into your diet to see if it affects you in a negative way, of course only if you feel like its not working for you. I definitely don't want to do this to soon because any chance that this is helping me I would hate to ruin that. At first I thought it was helping me, But not so sure anymore.

I'm 16 years old and I recently discovered just a little area of brown colored skin on my neck. I reverently finished a 7 month course of accutane and I know it can affect your pigmentation in many ways.

I am 20 and have been suffering with a bad experience with acne since I was 14.....the main area i have acne is on my shoulders and back......it really brings me down and stops me from ever wanting to take my top off! I have also lost a lot of confidence as i think ppl will look at me in a bad way if i take my top of as ppl tend 2 think if someone has spots they must be dirty!
I have used many different creams in the past which were prescribed by my doctor but none of them worked! since october 2009 I have been taking Oxytetracycline, I take 4 pills a day, since taking the drug i feel like i expect my skin to clear up quickly but have had no luck....I have good days and bad at times I can have very BIG spots on my back, giving me trouble when trying to sleep at night. I am no unsure if i need to give it time or is the drug just not working for me? I have been on them for more than 3 months.
It is more annoying as I have a holiday booked for July and want to be able to take my top off an go swimming but if my acne remains the same i will have no choice but to stay covered up or cancel my holiday.

I've suffered from bad acne from the age of 18 and previously I have been on a course of Tetralysal combined with the contraceptive pill Dianette which did really work wonders. However they did take about 12 months to work and after a while my skin became almost immune to the Tetralysal. I was off Tetralysal for a while and when I went back on it recently I did notice some difference but I felt that it just wasn't doing enough for me. My GP has now prescribed Oxytetracycline and after only taking it for 2 weeks I have noticed large painful boils on my chest and back (I have not previously suffered with this) and the acne on my face is now more painful and seems to be more red and aggravated.
Is it a case of 'it will get worse before it gets better' and I should wait it out for an improvement? Or is this a sign that Oxytetracycline isn't for me and should I go back to my GP even though it's only been 2 week?
Obviously the worsening of my skin doesn't really do much for my confidence and I do feel that it is getting worse day by day. I'd rather nip this is in the bud now if the medication doesn't work for me before my skin gets much worse.

I have been taking oxytetracycline for the last 5 months or so to clear up spots on my chest and back. But lately i have had pains in my knees, pains in my back and sometimes slight pain in my stomach area.I have noticed my legs, from the knees down especially around my ankles are full of fluid after my work.I was wondering if this is due to something else or has anyone else out there had anything like this after taking oxytetracycline.I have noticed my eyes are a bit blurry at times. But it's the pains and the fluid i would like to find out about.

have been prescribed Oxytetracycline for my cystic acne. 250mg thrice a day for 20 days and then 250 mg twice a day.
I have read on internet that it causes vision loss or impairment in some patients and scared to start the treatment.

Like many acne sufferers, I had a torrid time at school when my acne appeared; I totally understand the vulgaris name it is given...everything about it is vulgar! From the spots themselves to the bullying that my acne brought upon me.
Now in my early 20's I have finally found a product that keeps the oil and the spots at bay! Its called Aknicare and it worked so well on my skin, I was getting comments within 2 weeks of using about how good my skin was looking. It can be a little expensive but it is available on prescription so be sure to hound your GP to prescribe it. It is endorsed by one of the leading acne specialists in the UK; Professor Anthony Chu, which is how I came to hear about it.
If you can't get it from your GP there are some great offers on it at the moment, check out ebay where its free postage or the skinmed site where there's a great offer on the duo pack!

I have spots/spot scars on my back I have had them for years and they never seemed to go. They are visible in the pics but sorry about the lack of clarity because of the lighting but it just hard taking a pic of your back with a webcam but it captures some I think the lighting does not show the others. Here are the pics (be warned they not pretty)
http://imageshack.us/user/Terggi (I made a mistake with how many I put up there too lol)
please put a : and a / where the smiley face is there please as when I put those 2 together in the address it automatically comes up as a smiley face.
They are scattered all over my back it looks horrible Is there some sort of spot/ spot scar process that will remove or help fade these nasty looking things? and please don't recommend some oil or cream treatment crap as I tried those on spots elsewhere a couple of years back and they did nothing. And no they won't fade because I have had these on my back for 7 years now. I don't know what the hell started it it seemed to stem from a vacation in Greece. I not even sure if this is acne or just an outbreak of spots that ended up scarring somehow. I not sure where this topic should had gone by the way either I could not find acne or spots forum.

it has been several weeks now, although I did have 2.5mg 3 weeks ago as I had a severe panic attack and 1.25mg last Friday for the same reason. However, I only took diazepam for 8 weeks and no more than 2.5 mg per day. Apart from above 2 small, doses far apart, I have been off them for 7 weeks.
I have sinking feelings, cannot get anything together, weepy, and also have been diagnosed with Hemiplegic migraine. I am usually very together and was only, put on the pills due to TGA. I hope someone can just reassure me I am not going mad and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So many of you have had worse than me.

I have switched from being on 40mg of cital. 3 weeks ago I switched to Sertraline and have not really noticed any improvement. Still depressed, no appetite, anxiety and panic attacks. Seems like the medication is not working. Also not sleeping great so started taking Trazodone on 3rd day at 150 mg. do not like the feeling. I am able to get some sleep but takes awhile to get to sleep. No motivation.

I have acne and have just started accutane course (two weeks in). I also have fordyce spots on penis before treatment, fairly little and i could live with it. I read online many people think accutane gets rid of them and they do short term unitl you stop the drug but when they come back they come back 10 times worse. I really don't want this to be the case, and am seriously thinking stopping the course coz i dont want my penis covered when before I had them but could live with it just about.
