Sleep Issues :: Forget If Night Or Morning On Waking
Jul 9, 2015
This is the third time this has happened and I don't understand it.
I wake up in the morning and can't remember what time of day it is, have I woken from a nap? is it morning or night?
This morning I woke up feeling it was evening and it was 6.45 in the morning. I am really worried about this wondering if I could have dementia etc. I am hypothyroid and have Graves and Hashimoto's, would it be anything to do with thyroid?
I am an intelligent person who likes to keep busy. The only thing I can credit it to was perhaps an upsetting argument with my husband last night, but as I say it's happened a few times now.

I have been experiencing hallucination when waking up suddenly in the night. The hallucination is usually a huge spider in the room and I always wake up people in the house screaming "look!" or "Oh my God". And in a matter of a minute or so the image disappears. I have ignored these hallucinations for sometime, but recently I hallucinated that their was someone in the room. I panicked but I could not move my entire right side. I some how managed to wake my partner and I could still not move. When I finally hard arm and leg movement back, it was difficult to move my muscles and felt I could not control them. I gets bouts of tiredness during the day and nap a lot. Is this a sign of narcolepsy? My grandmother had it. Should I worry?

I'm 16 years old, and i've been suffering from insomnia for almost a year now, and recently i've been suffering from sleep maintenance as well, with me waking up 3-4 times a night. It feels like i'm sleeping very lightly, and i always dream when i sleep now. I don't know what to do anymore. Im seeing a psychologist today, and i hope she can help me. My appearance, health and grades are going down because of this. It's making me very anxious. Even if i relax, i can't fall asleep sometimes. I've started exercising 2-3 hours before bed and it helps me fall asleep a bit more quickly but doesn't help me stay asleep.

Last week I had what can only be described as my first Night Terror - it fit the bill from the research I've done online. Last night though, something happened which has really unnerved me - I'd been watching TV with my wife and kids and fell asleep on the sofa. I woke up, very sleepy, and went to the toilet. In the toilet I started coughing, I was struggling to breathe, and then I blanked out completely. When I became "aware" again, I was on my knees in the hallway, crying like a baby in my wife's arms. All I can remember is the coughing, a feeling of desperately NEEDING to escape, and that's it.
My wife tells me that they heard a massive noise from the bathroom, rushed out to see what was happening, and I was literally smashing up the bathroom by flailing my arms, and then sunk to my knees and crawled out into the hallway.
Now, I was awake (although sleepy) when this started, so... and, I just don't know. Am I potentially a danger to my family? I have no control over this, how far can it go? How can this happen when I am awake?
Also, this morning when I woke up, it was almost on me again, from waking up, I shot out of bed, panicking, breathing ridiculously hard, right on the edge - luckily i was able to reign it in and stop it from developing.
Help please, I have no history of panicking, I am a man who really doesn't fear anything, and suddenly I am scared out of my wits about what is happening. The "after-feeling" from these "attacks" leave me shaking, terrified, checking the dark corners of the rooms, and this is really not me.

For the past 4 months, I am wide awake at 3:30am without any alarm. I've always been a good sleeper, sleeping until 8am. Now that the time went forward, I wake at 4:30, which is a bit better, but I miss waking at a normal hour. I fall asleep just fine, but wake ready to go way too early. Up until recently, I was waking several times a night. Anyone else have this?

for the past several months my wife tells me that i continually stop breathing through the night, after a while of not believing her i have noticed i sometimes realize i stop breathing during the day and then take a gasp of air. i don't know whether i have done this my whole life and not realised i am now only 35. last week i have had some really irregular and pounding heart beats and for the past several days have felt light headed.i am looking for some answers in layman's terms or if any one else has had the same sort of thing happen as maybe it may all be in my head.

All my life I have struggled with waking up in the morning. I am female, aged 71, and can remember this problem going right back to my childhood. I think I may have something called Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed, I find it almost impossible to fall asleep before about 1 am, but the problem in the morning is even worse. I don't think I've ever woken naturally and feeling awake and alert. I am drowsy and dopey and half asleep and if I don't have to get to a job or a meeting I can easily fall back asleep for another 2 hours. It takes three different alarms to wake me up, and most mornings I just feel sick and awful. Do other people have this problem and how do they cope?

I posted in epilepsy earlier. I couldn't find the sleep boards. I am suspicious I have epilepsy but I wanted to see if anyone else has experience with this. I have severe sleep myoclonus that occurs every night all night. It causes me and jerk and I usually see a flash of light and hear a clicking sound. This occurs over and over so I hardly ever sleep. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm curious if anyone else experiences this. Just as I cross the line from being awake to falling asleep, it seems like my body just forgets to breathe. I jolt myself awake and just get right back to sleeping. I don't notice it every night but sometimes it happens a few times before I'm fully asleep.
I'm otherwise a healthy 32 year old male. I go to the gym multiple times a week and don't have any other major health issues other than occasional teeth-grinding at night. I don't snore heavily and I typically wake up rested when I do get to sleep early enough.

Hi I wonder if anybody has some advice based on personal experience please. I recently started on losartan [one week ago in place of bisoprolol] ....it is beginning to work in terms of lowering my blood pressure but i wake up every morning & i'm OK for the first 30 minutes or so & then the side effects kick in .... dizziness, fuzzy head, breathing laboured, heavy legged, headache & so on. I take my bisoprolol along with my warfarin & simvastatin last thing at night. Has anybody felt less side effects either by taking them at a different time of day OR maybe by splitting the pill ... I'm on 50mg daily?

I have had classic PMR symptoms (shoulders/upper arms/hips) and was diagnosed on March 2015... I am now reduced to 6 MG pred daily.
Have for the past two weeks or so had SEVERE wrist pain... not sure if it is pred withdrawal or PMR.
Anyone else have PMR pain hit their wrists? Cannot stand to bend them... Cannot remove a lid from a jar, etc.Gets better as the day wears on. Worse in the night/early morning.

I'm lucky to get 3 hours of sleep even with taking ambien. I've tried every natural supplement there is. Within the past 3 weeks I wake up at 3am no matter what time I go to bed like clockwork.
Feels like a shot of adrenaline or cortisol at that time. Even though I'm exhausted my mind will not shutdown.

So my main issue when dealing with my PTSD is the really vivid terrifying nightmares. I was controlling them for a while with trazodone, which I will admit I did not have a prescription for and received from a friend, but as I really don't feel like becoming addicted to medications, I've stopped taking it for the time being. Most of the other symptoms of my PTSD have so far not affected my day to day life but I cannot get a good night's sleep to save my life right and I was wondering if there was any type of meditation or something that you might recommend? I don't have the time or money right now to see a therapist or trauma expert.

I don't have any problem falling asleep, the longest it takes if 20 minutes sometimes. But I ONLY sleep for 5 hours, maybe 6 if I'm lucky. So I try to make myself stay up until 11pm so I can get up at my normal time of 5am. This is very hard because I will usually fall asleep in front of the tv around 9/930.I get up from the couch around 1030/11 and go to my bed, but then wake up at 3 am like clockwork. Last night I fell asleep in front of the tv at 930, got into my bed at 1030, but then woke up at 230! I usually can't fall back asleep either, or maybe dose in and out if I'm lucky. My mind is already awake then.I tried Melatonin years ago, and it worked for the first couple of days to a week. But then I built up a resistance to it and I had to keep increasing the dosage until it didn't help at all anymore.I have gone through different prescribed meds that didn't really work. The one that worked the best(Trazodone) had a side effect that I didn't like(woke up with an extremely dry mouth), and I built up a resistance to that too. I just wanted to see if there were any other meds out there, OTC or prescription, that may work?
