NuvaRing - Deciding To Give It A Try

Who here has been on the NuvaRing?

After discussing my options with my doctor last week, I decided to give it a try. So far so good. I had some cramping in the first few days, but that's completely gone now and I haven't noticed any other side effects.

Part of why I chose NuvaRing is I don't have to think about it very much. Also, my doctor doesn't like the implant, and would rather save an IUD for last if I don't find something else I like. She did mention Depo, but I didn't want that because of what I've heard about bone density loss and weight gain, neither of which I want. Another reason is my doctor said she has lots of patients with success skipping their periods on the ring, and that's something that's important to me. If I could, I'd stop my period until I was ready to get pregnant.

Nuvaring :: Can I Take It Out And Give A Rinse?

Okay so inserted the Nuvaring in February. I like it so far. Pretty easy. I like not having to remember it everyday. But what I want to know is is it possible for it to give me a fishy smell inside my vagina? For example I wanted to wash myself up and go have fun with hubby and I did so. And after i washed I did a test run and I wiped the surface of my vagina with my finger and it didn't smell like anything so I thought "cool". Well he stuck his finger inside of me and it had a fishy smell. Nothing else is going on down there. No discharge. No burning, itching, etc. Do I need to take my nuvaring out and give it a rinse every once in awhile or what?

Possible To Give Chlamydia By Sharing A Bath?

We only shared a bath once also, is it possible to get chlamydia any other way other than through sexually contact? I've read horrible stories about children getting it from their parents without sexual contact and having their children taken about way because they assume rape.

I Don't Want To Give Up Cannabis - Love Being Stoned

I am a reasonably successful business woman with a good life, a nice house and an amazing boyfriend. I had a good upbringing and have never suffered a traumatic event. However, for the past decade, I have smoked pot everyday. I'm now 26 and I have to give up- not because I want to, but because I got caught and am now on probation and subjected to regular drug testing. The problem lies therein: I DON'T WANT TO QUIT! I have no children and my life is not negatively impeded by the use of this drug, recent legal problems notwithstanding. It eases my anxiety and insomnia and I really just love being stoned. So how am I supposed to successfully give up when I really don't want to? And please don't say God- I am an atheist. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Where To Give Nerve Block For Ankle Surgery?

I recently had surgery on my ankle for a fractured fibula and torn ligament. Prior to surgery, my surgeon told me that he would have another doctor (pain doctor) administer a nerve block once I was under general anesthesia. The pain doctor met with me prior to the operation and advised that the nerve block would last anywhere from 15-24 hours. Unfortunately, the nerve block did not work correctly at all and I was in immense pain for a few hours post-op until I was given strong pain meds. I questioned my surgeon (because the pain doctor left after administering the nerve block) who said the nerve block must have worn off by the time the surgery ended (a couple hours tops), but from what I've researched it's not possible. Plus, I began to notice that the middle of my thigh was completely numb in the middle of the night. This numbness lasted approximately 24 hours.

My question is: Where should the pain doctor have administered the nerve block. I woke up with a bandaid in the area of my groin and was told this is where the nerve block was given (under ultrasound). However, I've read that for an ankle procedure, the block should have been given just above the knee to be effective. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject?

PCOS :: How Long For Primolut To Work And Give Me My Period?

Recently, I have gone to the doctor because I have been having irregular periods for the last few months. I haven’t gotten my period since October 23, 2013. I have seen spotting (brown) 2 times this month (February) but I did not receive my period. I am not sexually active in any way. I went to the doctor and she said I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). She gave me Primolut 5 mg Norethisterone to take 2 times a day to give me my period. I have been taking the pills for 4 days. I was wondering how long it is expected for primolut to work and give me my period? I have been exercising and eating healthy.

Sertraline :: Advice On Stopping Sertraline

I had some terrible problems last november stopping venlafaxine to start sertraline.  I realised I have tried over 6 different meds and have decided to get back to the start and take none.  I have been to a doctor today who was not very helpful and as I have never been given the right advice about cross tapering I am not confident about stopping.  I started with 50mg, 1 december 2014, in mid January increased to 100mg and to be honest things are worse in the way I feel.  No libido (I am a happily married 46 year old woman who used to enjoy my husbands attention), No motivation, No sense of enjoyment in anything, overeating, overspending and little or no self worth.  I have been told stop 100mg and take 50mg for 4 weeks and then review.  I am thinking maybe 75mg for a week, then 50mg for a week, then 25mg for a week then nothing....  Any ideas?  I have been on one antidepressant or another since 2009.

Hypothyroidism :: Thyroxine Can Give False Fasting Blood Test ?

I am on 150mcg Thyroxine and have a fasting blood test on Friday.  I take thyroxine at night as it makes me feel better the next day - like my thyroid is already working/functioning as it should be. Lots of speculation about whether to take meds before a test - fasting or not and if it could give a false reading. Wish doctors could be consistent with their thyroid diagnosis, and have not published their findings on whether or not to take meds before a blood test.

Skin :: Can My Hair Loss Be Helped

I first noticed my hair loss at around 19. I am now 26 and it seems to to have gotten worse.

I don't lose hair in big amounts and there's never a lot of hair loss in my hair brush so I don't understand why I'm losing hair.

I Went to my doctor about it but just got put on iron tablets which have not worked.

Is there anything that can help stop the hair loss and maybe regrow the hair i've already lost.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica :: Prednisone Really Helped

I've had PMR symptoms since Dec, which was finally diagnosed in April.  I've been on 20mg of pred since the beginning of April and mostly feel great.  I'm running, biking, and actually took my kayak out to see if it would bother my shoulders, and it didn't.  I'm a 68 year old male, who has always been active and in good shape.

When I read all these chats about people who are tired all the time I wonder if I am normal or if I can expect things to get worse.  Is it the pred or the PMR that cause the tiredness?.  My energy level seems good.  I feel a little more tired during the day, but it passes.  Sometimes I do take a nap when I do feel really tired. Functioning pretty normally with some awareness of mild muscle issues.

Mirtazapine Helped - A Miraculous Drug

I appear for the defence , M'Lud.

I was on SSRI antidepressants for some time.  They countered my extreme anxiety well, but I had bad insomnia probably caused by the  AD.  I tried various drugs for the insomnia (zopiclone,  amitriptyline etc) but with little success.   My doctor suggested mirtazapine but I declined as I had read about its weight gain side effect.  However eventually I changed my mind out of desperation.  The mirt was miraculous: it completely solved the insomnia.   I felt "normal" for the first time in months.

"But what about the side effects" I hear you say.  Well, I did get back my appetite - but no more than it was before I became ill.   I gained a little weight, but no more than I had lost.

I did have difficulty getting up in the morning and feeling groggy after that, but those lessened with time. I take the minimum mirt that allows me to get to sleep - about 11 mg,  and I think that keeps the side effects down.

Mirtazapine is like a knife in that it is not evil in itself, it is how it is used that matters.   The people who say it is evil have perhaps been on the wrong dose.  Mirt tends to be more sedative at low doses; more activating at high doses.   Do not throw out the baby with the bath water!

I get the impression from reading posts on this forum that mirt is best used (at low dose) to counter insomnia or where an SSRI antidepressant has not been tolerated.

Has A Gluten-free Lifestyle Helped Your Health?

I wondered if anyone here has become healthier following a gluten-free diet.

I am 35 and female. I am diagnosed Type 1 diabetes, have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, & Hashimoto thyroiditis (Hashi not treated prior to now). Recently, my TSH came back at 9.2 and my thyroid antibodies 213. I was then placed on Levothyroxin 25mcg and in six weeks my TSH is now at 3.70, so it appears I am responding pretty well to treatment.

A genetics test a few years ago indicated I am at high risk for developing celiac disease. Since then I have went gluten-free for short amounts of time and always felt better and digestive issues solved, but finding gluten-free food in my rural area is difficult and I tend to lapse on the diet.

However, I have been gluten-free now for 5 days and feeling somewhat better already. I intend to make this a lifestyle change for good this time.
I guess my real question to persons here is, has following a strict gluten-free diet greatly improved your autoimmune illnesses?

Gallbladder :: Fiber, Green Vegetable With Vitamin K Helped

Personally I used to have severe stomach problems for years; confirmed gallbladder sludge & gastroscope illustrating peptic ulcers in my tummy.

Rather than surgical options or taking medication long term, I've been attempting to get daily requirement of fiber. Attempting to consume fiber before consuming necessary fatty food that initiate digestion, and eating plenty of green vegetable with vitamin K have resulted in what seems to be a full recovery of stomach enzymes over the years.
