Sertraline :: Anxiety And Leg Cramps After Starting
Feb 13, 2016
I've been horribly depressed for the last six months after stopping Zoloft which I had been taking, successfully, for years. Thought I might not need it anymore but I definitely do.
I remember feeling horrible the first time I started taking Zoloft. I was nauseous, nervous, shaky, dizzy and had horrible anxiety. I was given an antianxiety medication to help me cope back then .
Today I just hit three weeks and have been titrating my dose each week to where I am now at the dose I had taken prior to stopping Zoloft. Overall I've had a bit of nausea but nothing like the first time. The symptoms that seem at their peak at the moment are chest gripping anxiety, a feeling of internal shakiness, and leg cramps.
Anyone had these symptoms and remember if, and when, they went away or what you did to cope with them?
I live by myself after being divorced and feel frozen a lot of the time. I think I'm suffering from PTSD due to traumatic events of the past.
Thank you!

I started my first pack of combined pills (Rigevidon) on Monday 14 July. I got a mild diarrhoea the next day. For a week, I have experienced decreased appetite, stomachaches, sharp stabbing pain in central abdomen and discomfort after eating. Is it common to have cramps when first starting oral contraceptives? I am worried that it can be a sign of pregnancy as I had protected sex (just condom)on 19 June. I took one urine pregnancy test last thursday and one today (4 weeks and 2 days since intercourse)Both are negative. Also, will i be less protected on the first pack of the pills? Will having digestive problems like the above make the pills less effective?

Is this the meds ( sertraline ) or a symptom of my anxiety.

Hi all. I'm on day 14 of Zoloft. I was put on it for anxiety & I would feel depressed the odd time. Iv noticed while I no longer feel anxious I feel depressed instead. I'm hoping this will lift as it's still very early days & maybe I'm still having side effects.

I started taking sertraline two months ago, after it turned out that my sleep issues were caused by depression. However, even though I’m on 100mg dose, neither my sleep or emotions feel like they are getting any better. If anything, I’m feeling worse since I’ve started taking it.
I was rarely anxious before sertraline/ Zoloft and now I have to go through several bouts of anxiety, usually triggered by everyday things which I was able to do normally before starting Zoloft. Is it normal to experience increased anxiety when you’re on sertraline?

I have been suffering for some years during the winter time with anxiety and depression. I have been on and off meds for 4 years now. I always seem to have to go back on them when the winter comes. I would stay on them, but I was trying to get pregnant so I went off. Well its been a tough time for me lately and decided to put trying on hold to help myself. I started 50mgs of zoloft 13 days ago. Haven't really felt any relief...my therapist says I should feel better after 2 and maybe meds aren't right for me. I kind of think I need to wait at least up to 4 weeks. I have terrible anxiety all day with physical symptoms. I push through my day because its the right thing to do. I eat, workout, go to work, but just not enjoying it because I feel "weird". Hoping I will feel better soon....this worrying about worrying is starting to make me mad!! Help anyone else have a similar story or hope?

I was on 50mg for 5 years and I gain 20 pounds. I finally decide to stop taking sertraline and I beg my doctor to let me do it. She finally agree and I went from 50mg to 25mg for 2 weeks and 12 mg for 2 weeks and then I was off. I was fine until today 2 MONTHS later. I get waves of anxiety and then it goes away, I sweat cold and then goes away, my arms tingling and then it goes away. I am not sure if I should have to go back to Zoloft ?

I have suffered from depression and anxiety for years (about 8 in total since my early 20's) but only recently sought help from my GP when I started having 2 or 3 panic attacks a day.
I was prescribed Sertraline 25 mg daily and Propranolol 80 mg daily (40 mg in the morning and 40 mg in the evening). After one week the Sertraline was increased to 50 mg daily. 3 weeks on and today I have been upped to 100mg daily.
I had bad side effects when starting on the 25 mg (increased depression, increased anxiety, headaches, nausea and diarrhea) but these past after the first 4 or 5 days. When I was increased to 50 mg they came back, albeit more mildly and past after the 3rd or 4th day.
I am apprehensive about increasing the dosage again now as I have to travel a lot this weekend for a large family engagement. I am worried that I may start having panic attacks again as I settle into the higher dose and I am wondering whether to stay on 50 mg with the Propranolol over the weekend and up the dosage on Monday when I am home and have a few days to relax and can ride out any side effects.

i had an assessment after struggling with depression and anxiety for yrs , finally went back on ADs just before xmas, after trying sertraline , mirtazapine i'm now on venlafaxine , over the last 6 weeks it's increased to 225mg. My assessment came out with a high score in the range of severe depression and anxiety . I have previously had time off work due to this , however i'm doing my best to stay at work as i'm only p/t and work with some fab ppl . However i feel like everything is getting too much again , i had gp last wk and i just said all was ok , it wasn't but my child was in the room so couldn't speak , Also had my first cbt session today a ' panic workshop ' one , even with them discussing panic attacks makes me feel edgy and haven't been able to shake the feeling off since , i feel like i'm fighting a losing battle and just cant cope. So much has gone on recently , 7yr relationship breakdown / ended . Problems with child behavior , time off work last yr for an op that didn't go to plan ( should of been day surgery - 3 days in hospital , 7.5 wks off work ) moving house , family disagreements ( not to do with me but get dragged in ) Just so much - i don't know what to do , i feel like a whinge if i go back to gp again.

I have PTSD and have been struggling lately. My Dr prescribed me Sertraline about 7 weeks ago. I started on 25mg and have increased to 50mg.
Initially I had a few wobbles but persevered and feel so much better generally. The problem is that I feel pretty good then will suddenly drop and feel anxious for a couple of days. I feel shaky and as if I'm having internal tremors. I felt like this before the tablets too.
Another problem is that I'm already only a UK size 6. I have bowel disease and struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Now I've dropped half a stone again so only weigh 8 stone and I'm 5 foot 7.
The last 2 days I've felt 'nervy' again.

I wasn't keen on trying medication for my anxiety, I ended up back at my gp as my symptoms had increased. I generally have a really poor tolerance to medication and after being prescribed Sertraline 50mg, surprise surprise I was sick as a dog taking it!! I have read that this is a really common side effect and after going back to see my gp yesterday, she first of all halved my dose to 25mg until I build up a tolerance and then I can increase to 50mg when I feel nausea not a problem. She also prescribed Cyclizine (anti sickness) and Omeprazole (gastric) medication to help with the nausea/vomiting. I just take all 3 tablets at the same time in the morning and touch wood, so far I feel ok. It's just a though for anyone struggling with the sickness factor of Sertraline.

I've been on 300 mcg Levothyroxine for several years. Was still hypo until I was given Adderall 40 mg day. Except for PTSD was fine. Old Doc retired and new Doc is freaked because my TSH is almost undetectable, T3 and T4 high side of normal. She lowered it to 250mcg and I'm in a tailspin in less than a month. Crying, shaking, cramps in my feet, leg tremors, etc. ANXIETY out of control.

I have just been diagnosed with lactose intolerance. After, literally years of suffering, I finally have an answer to my problems. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has this and what you suffered? I mean, this seemingly little thing has caused me to become bedridden! I ate a diet LOADED with lactose prior to diagnosis and honestly felt like I was dying over the last two years in particular. I had severe diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, brain-fog, anxiety attacks...the list goes on... I had my appendix out in Oct 2013 too, which I can't be sure was related, but it was horrendously painful any way!
The symptoms I had, I put down to various things and was convinced I had parasites, which I don't have. I just could not fathom why I was so ill. I had a food intolerance test and eggs came up positive, so I eliminated them from my diet at the time, but I had little relief as I was still eating a high-lactose diet, not knowing that I was intolerant.
I have now eliminated all lactose AND eggs from my diet and in one day, I felt better. I had no abdominal pain, no urgency to poo, and no headache - which I have literally, constantly had for years. It's remarkable. I also didn't suffer bad dreams, which is so weird, as I have actually become used to my dreams being bad/negative and it became normal for me. It's such a relief to be able to rest without disruption!
Did or do any of you suffer with really bad symptoms down to lactose intolerance? Also, as I am new to this and have had to overhaul my diet, does anyone have advice on foods I should avoid, etc?
Thanks!

I had what felt like ovulation cramps last week and tonight have vaginal bleeding, fresh blood not old.
I did this in 2012 after my mom died, was checked pap smear, uterine biopsy and I feel those hurt, it was all good, they thought it might of been stress related because it lasted only one day.
My abnormally normal periods were only 1-3 days, they were one coming in, one day of heavy bleeding, and spotting on third day. But every 28 days like clockwork with no issues there. In my 20's I was told I had endometriosis and when they went to do the ultrasound the cyst had went away. I didn't take it any further than that but never had children and never took birth control. Cramps were always very painful, had to curl up in a ball, always had severe back pain with them as well.
Last week they were like that not quite as bad but nearly.
Is this just a fluke you all think? Even menopause I had no symptoms, when I turned 50 it shut off like a faucet never again until 2012, and now.
