View 4 RepliesI'm a 21 year old female & I was diagnosed with Sciatica in December & it's been driving me crazy since. I have had back problems in the past as I done gymnastics from a young age & studied make-up artistry for two years, both which can strain your back, also my job of working in retail has not helped. I have been in & out of the doctor's & it recently got so bad I had to go to hospital, I have been referred to physio however the waiting list is at least 10 weeks long before I will get to see someone. I've been taking advice from doctor's, I am on medication however I don't find it is helping, I have been doing stretches, yoga, going swimming, walking for as long as I can before the pain gets unbearable & to no avail. It's gotten so bad I can't sleep at night because I can't lie in a position without feeling shooting pains through my calf or my thigh. I'm really at my wits end, I'm so frustrated & down all the time because the pain is constant & it's stopping me from living my normal life & going out at the weekend with my friends. Can anyone recommend anything else that might help? The pain started in my lower back & has now spread to my calf & in the past few days has been making my foot feel numb.
View 13 RepliesI'm 18 and i was diagnosed with scoliosis at a young age. I wore a brace to correct the curvature for about 2-3 years. The brace would put pressure on my hips and after some time I would have pain in my lower back, down my buttocks, down the back of
the leg and into the toes. It's sharp and searing and sometimes there's tingling and numbness. Could this be sciatica caused by the brace? Is it possible that it pinched the nerves and caused permanent damage? All I know is that it is extremely painful and hard to get to go away..
I have nerve damage in my lower back due to four back surgeries. Now I am beginning to have pain deep within my thigh on the same side where my disks were herniated. Anyone experienced this?
View 1 RepliesI've had horrible back pain for over a year now due to a herniated disc at L5/S1 and a bulge at L4/L5. It's gotten better at various times during the interim, but I've never been able to bodybuilder/workout again. I usually do not have sciatica (only severe back pain) but every time I re-aggravate it I do get sciatica that shoots into my right heel. I visited my neurosurgeon and he told me he does not think I would be a candidate for a microdiscectomy because my primary symptom is not sciatica - but I want some second opinions. Did a microdiscectomy help your back pain from the herniation and not just the sciatica?
View 8 RepliesDoes anyone suffer with the same severe low back, thigh and groin pain as I have been for the past seventeen months following my radical prostatectomy. I am fine for the first twenty minutes of walking or general activity before the pains starts and increases in intensity if I don't stop. I have had M.R.I's and scans. The spinal consultant said it is caused by a lymphocele which I have had drained once, but urology don't think this is the cause. Can anyone offer any suggestions please. The nerve pain can get unbearable.
View 3 RepliesI have a numb bum on the right hand side and tightness on my thigh as though it is about to go into spasm only after work on the drive home.
View 6 RepliesI've been having pain in my calf for about a month now.in the last couple days the pain has started jumping around. To the sides of my calf,to behind my knee now it's in my groin as well. Also my right testicle hurts(right leg is where my pain is).I finally got to see my doctor today and he thinks I might have a Pinched sciatic nerve and is sending me for lower back xray.so does sciatica cause this dull ache that comes and goes in different parts of my leg?can it also be causing my testicle pain?
View 3 RepliesI have had pain/discomfort in my leg for 3 weeks now it started as calf pain which changed positions from behind knee to lower down to ankle and shin. It would come and go throughout the day but seems worse when sitting down. There is no swelling or redness. It has now progressed and I have pain/discomfort in my bum cheek and upper thigh down to my ankle again it comes and goes and is worse when sitting doesn't really bother me when I'm walking around. It is mostly in my left leg although occasionally I feel discomfort in right leg also but majority of time it is my left.

View 3 RepliesI'm a teenager who suffers from Sciatica pain. Please note that doctors have not told me this, I googled it and Sciatica exactly describes my pain. I have Spina bifida occulta, but was told it shouldn't cause me any pain. Not sure if that is relating to my pain. I had an X-RAY and an MRI (I think) and the doctor said it was fine... but that still does not explain my pain? It's been going on for maybe 4-5 years?
View 3 RepliesI have had the typical sciatica for years on and off nothing debilitating so I am familiar w/the pain in the buttocks and moved down the leg etc but this is different so if anyone has had this please let me know I'm so confused...a month ago I actually went to ER w/pain behind my thigh that felt like I was being stabbed...then it would stop and come back 10-12 seconds later lasting about 2-3 seconds and VERY painful did this consistently for 6 hrs and disappeared as fast as it came! GONE for 1 month until this past Sat started again altho not as constant ..until the past hr I have had it every 30 seconds and I cannot fig out what causes it ...or what it is ..the ER gave me Valium and my reg Dr said take magnesium altho my levels were within range. I almost feels like I was tasered or stabbed (have really never experienced either but seems like that's what it would feel like) so do you think this could be sciatica?
View 1 RepliesNine months ago I hurt my back with an improper lift. Unlike several other back sprains, this one won't go away. Low back pain, and bilateral sciatica. Mostly dull pain, but shooting pain down legs when I bend backwards, or step into a hole that jars my back. Doctors have to play by the insurance company rules, so they treat with meds, then Phys Therapy, then guessing, and before you know it you have been hurting for 9 months. So I had an MRI that revealed a herniated disc with central canal stenosis and 2 other bulging discs.
How does one choose the method of treatment, or the type of medical pro. If you go to a surgeon, he wants to cut, to a chiro, he wants to crack and twist, you get the point. I'm being stoic about the pain, because I am concerned about side effects and drug dependency, but it's time to get this fixed and get on with my life. I would like to think that the body is equipped to heal itself. But, maybe not.
I've been miserable for months with my right buttock area hurting while seated. It has recently also started bothering my while standing or laying down. I seem not to notice it when I am active. It's making my life miserable. I feel a knot/lump deep in the buttock tissue by my sit bone. Also, 3 times this month my whole right buttock from low back to thigh has become swollen. My leg muscles on both sides twitch. I've had 2 MRI's that show nothing except mild arthritis in my low back. I fell hard on my right side and broke my tailbone 2 years ago but just started experiencing pain this past year. Here is what I have tried:
Stand up desk at work
Yoga
Ice/Heat
Multiple Chiro appointments
Seen ortho specialist who told me not to concentrate on the pain!!
2 months of PT which seemed to aggravate the issue
Pain management doc says ischial bursitis and gave me an injection but didn't work.
Naproxen in case it is muscle related
Gabapentin in case it is nerve related
I've had problems with my neck and back since I was a child, but recently i've been having more problems with my back, i've had about 3 or 4 episodes of lower back pain but this time I have been diagnosed with lower back pain and sciatica, the doctor put me on codeine, but they didn't ease the pain and now nefopam which are basically doing the same, i've also been seeing a physio for the last 3 weeks, when he had a look he said my spine was twisted/curved and my right hip was lower than my left so I was walking lopsided, I feel like I'm going in circles and feeling fed up and in constant pain,
When I was born I was put in cast from above my hips to my toes as my hips/pelvis and legs weren't formed properly, I was in cast till I was about 2 or 3 years old, I then had an accident as a child and hurt my neck and back ...
I am 25 year old IT engineer facing knee pain along with other spine problems. I have been diagnosed as cervical spondylosis around 8 month back so i was taking physio therapy session since then. During those session i was getting some pain in my right leg knee which i ignored as i have bigger problem to be taken care of. Over the time it increased and since 2 month i am feeling pain while exercising for cervical and when i walk (sometime unbearable ) so I started physio therapy for that too but not getting satisfactory results. In addition to that I was swimming for subsiding my neck , left hand and knee pain but unluckly i got pain in my lower back pain due to swimming which was getting increasing day by day so i started physio therapy for that. I am doing physio therapy for neck , left hand, back and knee. I am very dishearten as suffering from neck , left hand pain with lower back pain and that extra pain has added. Could someone please let me know whether i will be get recovered from that painful life ever?
View 1 RepliesSo I dislocated my knee in January of this year. I was given a device that isolates my knee cap and hold it in place. I wore the device off and on over the year whenever my knee would feel sort of irregular. I worked out routinely to help strengthen my knee, it helped the pain somewhat, but mostly just made me feel better about the way I looked, and kept me healthy. I haven't worked out since some time before Thanksgiving. Starting this week i've started to feel this new akward feeling behind my kneecap, sort of like the ligament behind my knee cap is tightening, sort of similar to how it felt when I dislocated my knee, but not exactly the same. I get the pain after fully bending my knee, for example when I am on my knees doing my job stocking shelves at work, when I stand to my feet I can usually feel the pain. I try doing a couple of different stretches when to make the feeling go away a bit, but it comes back, and then it eventually goes away again.
My knee "pops" (makes a loud popping noise and pressure) pretty regularly now but when I get off of work and off of my knees I experience the discomfort much less. I want to start exercising again on Monday, but I am scared I might dislocate again. I will try using the knee cap device again tomorrow, but I feel as though whenever I use the device, it makes my knee feel like jello the next day, and make me want to use the device again, even though I was advised by my doctor that I should not need to use it regularly. ....
With my knee pain it hurts the most when I lay down with leg straight out, then it starts to stiffen and pain runs down to the top of my foot up my hip, butt bone from my knee cap. What is my diagnostic and whats the worst condition this can cause if not treated or taken care of.? Please I need advise. I live with a severe ,chronic pain. Even ibuprofen and tramadol pain meds.does not ease the pain..
View 3 RepliesI'm freaking out so I'll try to make sense. I woke up this morning with a stinging pain in the back of my left knee and I read that this might be a symptom of Deep Vein Thrombosis and it has scared me. I had blood tests done a month ago and they all came back clear. I don't sit too long, don't travel on planes and have no prior family history of clots if that helps.
View 4 RepliesI'm 23 weeks and 3 days and my lower back, hips and knees hurt me so bad I can't sleep that well. So is it okay to take a nice warm Epsom salt bath or any other suggestions? I have scoliosis in the lower back and just started showing in my belly area (well it just appeared one morning lol) but I've noticed my back and everything has been really sore.
View 2 RepliesI've just come out of hospital, having been admitted due to chronic pain. I had MRI which showed 10cm fibroid, benign cyst and thick lining of uterus - I'm 53 and pre menopausal. I have been having sever nerve like pain in buttock and goes down leg. I assumed gyno consultant would put this down to fibroid pressing on nerve. However, she was adamant pain nothing to do,with fibroids and ordered MRI for back which orthopaedic looked at and said was fine. She was still certain the pain and my enlarged uterus were not connected so has referred me to physio and out me in Esmya, and I then left hospital with many pain meds. These get me through the day with a background niggling pain, occasionally peaks and I roll for a bit. She is away at present, but will see me when gets back, my husband has made a private appointment with consultant who is covering. I am so sure the two are connected as they began together. Is he likely to disagree with a colleague? I can't go on with this level,of,pain - when I was admitted to hospital it was via a&e due to pain, and I'm scared the pain may escalate again. Any views/thoughts welcome.
