I've been having migraine headaches, pressure headaches, dizziness and nausea. I kept chalking it all up to menopause. Because as most of you know, so many of these symptoms are menopause.
Last Friday, Jan 2nd at around 7:30PM my boyfriend and I were leaving a restaurant, suddenly I started getting shocks in my right leg like my leg was falling asleep, while I was walking to the car. This shocking feeling quickly radiated up my arm and into my head, all on the right side. My boyfriend quickly started toward the hospital. On the way I lost the ability to formulate sentences and words. I would say one sentence and a totally different sentence would come out. I would try to say one word and a totally different word came out. Being a former medic the only word I wanted to relay was "stroke". It felt like someone had tasted my right side. It was the most frightening thing I'd ever experienced and I was awake for the entire ride. After getting to the hospital I was in the ER for about 3 hours. Then sent to Neurology/Stroke ward. For the next few days I had a battery of MRI's, EEG, EKG's, CT Scans, Blood Work, Ultrasounds and a Spinal (Lumbar Punch). Within 6 or so hours I was able to formulate sentences and say words again. I forced myself the entire time. My right side started getting feeling back within a few days. I still have some numbness in my right hand and am experiencing peripheral neuropathy symptoms in my right leg and foot.
The neurologist found a mass in my brain. Thanks be to God that it is benign. I just found out yesterday that I am cancer free. However, they still don't know what the mass is. It could be a tumor or a jelly bean I stuffed in my nose as a child. (joking) But we won't know for a while. Also it might be inoperable too. I will be seeing the Dr on the 13th for an MRI Rx. In a month we'll do the MRI and see what has happened with this mass. Is the edema gone, has it shrunk or grown? Things like that.

Can anyone tell me the best time to take Ramipril.
I am on one 5mg tablet per day.
I take this last thing at night but am wondering if it would be better to take in morning as I feel a little unsteady on my feet when I am out in the day.

I have COPD along with CHF. My blood pressure is normal. Have only 20% use of mitral valve. ( Cardiomyopathy). I was put on 60 mg of Furosemide (Diuretic) then 2.5 mg. Then after 2 months I am now at 7.5 mg.
My question is I have a constant cough, pulling up mucus. It starts with a real itchy throat and then the coughing. There is no relief. It goes on for anytime 7 to 15 minutes stop and then starts again. At night it is worse.
I am afraid that my COPD will get worse. Please let me hear from you if you have the same problems.

I am a 47 year old male (right weight for height) and reasonably fit running three times a week who has recently had to visit the doctor (first time in years) for severe neck pain caused by strenuous gardening work -so called leisure.
However my blood pressure was checked over the past few weeks and has found to be continuously very high ranging 190/115 to 150/90. My GP has decided to put me on ramipril starting with 2.5mg increasing to 5 mg and then 10mg over six weeks. On reading the comments about side effects I am really concerned which has now possibly increased my blood pressure further - really concerned on what to do, should I get a second opinion through my private medical before starting this treatment?

I have been on ramipril for about 8 months now. Have had a dreadful cough which has got worse the longer I have taken them. I also have asthma and the cough has been put down to that as it has triggered severe asthma attacks, which have caused me to go into hospital with blue light flashing. Not once has any doctor said this is down to Ramipril. I will be changing this medication before it kills me. BE VERY WARY IF YOU ARE ASTHMATIC!!!!!

I wrote on this sight about a month ago, declaring that i dont really have any problems with ramipril, other than contracting a couple of nasty colds with very tickly coughs since starting on it. How wrong was I. Every bug going has got me, I ache pretty much all of the time and constantly feel as though im about to undergo an attack of the flu. The tickly cough has stayed, sometimes keeping me awake at night! Ive just finished a course of antibiotics for a chest infection and was amazed when my doctor told me that the ramipril worsens any kind of cold, cough or virus! the scary part is though, my bp has been higher than usual and my doctor is monitoring it with the intent of highering my dosage if it doesnt come down.

My elderly husband has taken ramipril 5.0mg for many years with apparently no or minimal side effects. But over the last two years he has suffered increasingly from dizziness in the morning. I think he also coughs a great deal more than he ever did.
I've been measuring his blood pressure regularly recently and the diastolic measure is consistently on the edge of 'low' (around 60). The systolic is just into 'high' and it creeps up a bit if he forgets the ramipril however. I wonder if a reduced dose of ramipril might still control the latter with less risk of hypotensive dizziness. Does that make any sense?

have been on Indapamide a few months and so far so good, feel so much better since coming off ramipril! I am also warm all the time which is such a change, I Was always cold when my bp was so high! I just wanted to say something positive about a drug as I find it very good with little side effects apart from tinnitus but that's nothing compared to previous side effects. I spoke to a nurse who uses this drug and she says it's fairly new and quite expensive so not used a lot but anyone struggling for a good drug, I think it's okay, don't know if it reduces bp as still have phobia but feel great!

I was put on Amlodipine for severe hypertension and the first night i was in terrible pain with my chest and that brought on a anxiety attack, stayed on it for a week and still had spikes in my high blood pressure and chest pain, went back to the doctor and told her and she looked at me like i was lying, changed my medication to Ramipril and the chest pain and anxiety went but i have got a terrible dry cough with the Ramipril so need to come of them too, my blood pressure was very high and i was told it may lead to a heart attack or stroke so now i am in trouble as i don't trust any medications because of the side effects.

I've been a long time user of Ramipril and most recently posted about getting hives from it ... so my doc instead prescribed enalapril.
Just curious if anyone here can explain what might be going on with me... basically what occurred was:
Over the summer I stopped Ramipril due to suspicion of hives, for 2 months. Test was sort of inconclusive, as I did get a hive when restarting, but then no more. Anyway, BP was generally fine while off ramipril, about 120/85-88 ish. Latter number was somewhat high for me, so I restarted it.
Within one week I noticed increased ringing in the ears.
Over the next several weeks I noticed feeling somewhat sickly, like I had a virus.
BP initially went down to 120/80, but over time began to rise. Ended up being around 130-140/95 (higher than it was before I even started it). Bottom number higher than anytime in my life really.
Pulse strangely went up... a lot. From around 80 to 90-95. Occasionally even got to 100.
This week I started Enalapril (or two days ago to be exact). I just took my BP, it came in at 118/88 (diastolic till a tad highish) and pulse of 78. And overall I feel better and a lot calmer.
My question is, what happened exactly? I tool Ramipril for years and it never rose my BP or pulse before. Could it be a bad reaction due to a specific generic manufacturer? Long term allergy to ramipril that sort of just went haywire when stopping/restarting it?
Or is there something special about enalapril that would make it work better? I wouldn't think so, as they are both ace inhibitors.
Or just a weird coincidence?

My mother is in hospital with esophageal varices due to a potential liver problem. She was on Ramipril for a long time when it was not needed. Does anyone have any knowledge of there being a link between Ramipril and liver problems.

I've been taking ramipril now for 9 years with no significant side effects, but lately I've developed a dry mouth and difficulty in swallowing. I've had various blood tests which have all been ok. Could Ramipril cause this condition after so many years ?

I am old and have one leg, but I cycle, and enjoy it.
Thus, I know what roads are hard, what hills are very hard, or impossible, and I'm aware of the gradual increase in my ability to cycle.
So, when two things happened, it didn't take a genius to connect them.
1) I was advised to increase my Ramipril from 5 mg to 7.5mg (and eventually 10mg) daily. I increased it to 7.5.
2) I went on a 'normal' cycle ride; no other conditions differed. The first 'hard' road was difficult. The first 'very hard' hill was almost impossible. The first 'impossible' hill, I gave up and walked.
My thigh and leg muscles felt as if I'd done 10 miles, not 500 yards.
That, together with an increase in tinnitus (separate post), are leading me back to self-monitoring of my blood pressure, and a much more cautious approach to this drug.

My wife was prescribed 10 milligrams/day dose of ramipril and nearly passed out in town, palpitations, difficulty breathing and pain in the chest. She was admitted to hospital with a view that she might have had a heart attack. They put a camera up her femoral artery but her heart was clear, no problems.
her blood pressure was 90 over 45. we stopped her taking the Ramipril and all her symptoms disappeared. It was as if the tablets were producing the palpitations and the chest pains which she was taking more and more tablets for.

Prior to taking Ramipril I suffered from a persistent dry cough of which the cause had not been diagnosed.
On taking Ramipril the cough was very considerably aggravated particularly at night: codeine gave some relief ( as phoschol and 15mgm tablet) but sleep was reduced to snatches between coughing bouts.
This lasted for 3/4 months until I was advised to stop its use.
Within a week I retrurned to the status quo ante with considerable relief.

Put on this drug for HBP 2.5mg then 5 mgs had various problematic side effects went to doctor to advise him of my problems with this drug. He then increased the dosage to 10 mgs which I have taken now for 2 months and the problems have multiplied to a point when I have become so ill with all the problems highlighted in these messages that I stopped taking the drug and started to feel better within 3 days. I wonder now what the reaction will be from my GP when I tell him that I want to try an alternative drug. Having high blood pressure I could do without worrying about his comments which other people have endured when they have asked to have an alternative drug.
