Osteoarthritis :: Hip And Spine Wear And Tear
Jul 8, 2014
I have Osteoarthritis I think, although the doctor didn't really do any tests to confirm it. Perhaps there's nothing they can do, I don't know. Anyway, it started out when I had a frozen shoulder when I was sixty from fracturing a small bone without realizing it. Because of the strain on the other shoulder that subsequently froze up as well. I had to sleep on my back for nearly a year, but after two lots of cortisone injections into the joints and lots of active dancing in my bedroom whilst in agony, they finally freed themselves and got back to normal. After that episode I found that my lower back was painful when I got out of bed in the mornings, and my right knee would collapse with pain up and down the stairs. My right hip now gives me a lot of pain too, and sometimes all of these joints play up together, leaving me in lots of pain. I do find that paracetamol helps, and I do use voltarol etc. I have tried using flexiseq also, which is a topical treatment that is supposed to lubricate the joint, but it is very expensive at £18 a tube and I'm not really sure whether it works or not. It seems to work sometimes, but not others.
Also, I find that I can wake up occasionally with more or less no pain at all for no reason that I can make out. I wish I knew what it was! Perhaps something I ate, or just didn't do the previous day?? who knows??

No diagnosis as yet but been told after an ultrasound that I have inflammation in the achilles tendon which "should not be there and not due to wear and tear".
Anyone had this and what was the cause for yours?

I've had fibro for around 3 years and went to see my rheumatologist only to discover I've wear and tear of my lower back joint. What's confused me is does this mean I have arthritis of the lower back or not. very confused can someone shed light to it.

The thing is my neck makes a grinding noise all day and every day , is this normal ? And my lower back is so unbelievably in chronic pain , I can't do anything without it hurting , it gets to the point where my back locks itself and I can't move and every now and then my back goes into a spasm and I end up in hospital because I go into shock and my lips turn blue , but all they do is inject me with some relaxant and send me home , I've asked my dr to get me an X-ray but all they give me is more and more morphine .

I have been suffering from hip bursitis, both sides, for about a year now. Two steroid injections into the worst hip haven't helped. I've been following a physiotherapy course for a month, but am still in pain. Added to this, I have osteoarthritis in my knees, top of my right foot and both thumbs, all of which are painful at the moment. I also am feeling very tired and under the weather. I will be seeing my Orthopaedic Consultant on Wednesday and am wondering what to ask him. He'll be checking on the hip bursitis, but will he be able to do anything about the arthritis? More steroid injections? Should I ask to see a Rheumatologist? My legs and hips feel very heavy and I'm so tired of feeling like this, with little energy.

I broken my tibia in my ankle 5 days ago! It is a small clean break! It hardly hurt at all, didn't cry until they said it was broken! No exciting story i was running up the stairs and went over on my right ankle on the landing!
I hardly had any swelling as I put ice on it straight away and went to a+e straight away. They put me in a temp cast. I found this very uncomfortable and went straight back in the morning as they said the break was very small and in a 'good place'. They said I could have a air boot.
I am due to go to the fracture clinic in just under two weeks! To check the progress!
My biggest problem is that I am going away in just 3 weeks and really not wanting to wear the airboot whilst I'm away! Could anyone advise me if this would possible!

Last Aug, I fell in a small hole, and snapped a rather large piece off the fifth metatarsal. I went to an ankle/foot surgeon who was leaving for a corporate job rather than private practice. He never showed us the x-ray. Put me in a boot, wrapped the elastic wrap, over my sock, and put my foot in a shoe thing. Before I left, I did ask for copies of the x-rays which I got. I was really surprised at the gap. A good 1/8".
Well, that shoe didn't work, so my husband ordered an air cast. That sort of helped. I would say I didn't sleep for 6 weeks. At the 6 week mark, still in pain, I went to a different ankle/foot surgeon, who, we think because we were going to pay cash, that MAYBE he didn't want to touch my foot for fear of non payment? Or he was an idiot. The x-rays looked exactly the same, big old piece still broken off. We asked about it. He said there was nothing to be done and basically suck it up and start wearing a shoe. We, husband and I, were like, "okay he's the doctor." However, I could not get into a shoe without quite a bit of pain and walking wasn't happening.
At the 12 week mark, I was on the phone to my sister, crying.. and I'm pretty tough. She reminded me I had a podiatrist I liked. I went to see him and had reduction surgery and a 2" PIN put in that bone!! My surgery was Dec 8, 2015 (so 11 weeks ago?)
The bone itself is healing fine. I can feel the pin though. I still have pain, not as bad though. But my foot is still very swollen I would say my foot is a constant annoyance though. I cannot fit into a pair of shoes. I've tried wide shoes, they cramp my toes.. and I've gotten 2 ingrown toenails in the last 2 weeks trying. Those are very painful! I put a pair of slippers on and could feel it cramming my toes, and next day.. my toe was red and swollen again from being cramped.
I don't know what to do. My foots feels pretty good when it is wrapped and in the air cast. The broken one is also about 1/2"- 1" wider than the other right now, than my good foot. I still have no ankle.. very swollen.
Any suggestions?? Is this pretty normal? I really don't want any more ingrown toenails from shoes though.
I can wear flip flops but boy does my foot feel irritated after about an hour. I go back to see my doctor, whom I really like, next week.
When he presses on the broken part, it doesn't hurt. I can move it certain ways. But if he pushes up from the bottom.. that's bad. I can't stand on my tippy toes either. I feel like a mess.

UNLESS your surgery is ON your breasts / genitals / bum ...
you CAN wear underwear during surgery
i've had surgery on my groin (bikini line) and still wore undergarments!
ladies: NO metal, non wired, sports bra / crop top / bikini top ugly knicks (they may get stained) No metal lads: ugliest pair of boxers (they may get stained).
crappy arguments to ignore:
"they need to stick ecg stickers on your chest for monitoring" - ok cool go on then. easily done with a bra on (i am proof)
"its easier to not have them in case of an emergency and we have to waste time cutting them off" - plz tell me what kind of emergency involves my genitals and breasts?
"they are professionals they are focusing on the task" - ok how does that involve my genitals and breasts?
"they operate on all different types, shapes, sizes of people everyday they've seen it all" - so? my body. i don't need or want them to see anything they don't need to that's my right.
"you'll be asleep you won't even know or care" - i'm not okay with them seeing these areas of my body even when i'm awake! why the heck should i be ok with it whilst i'm unconscious!
"your underwear will get stained/dirty especially if you need a catheter" - ok cool'll bin them. how long is my surgery? do i REALLY NEED a catheter? no. you do not have my permission to use one.
let me know if you've been given or found some more reasons against this. i wrote this because i am a big boobed (that means lying down in surgery with a flat chest because my boobs are besides my armpits), self conscious, overweight female suffering with anxiety whose anxiety levels went through the roof before my surgery as i was panicking about not being able to wear my underwear
the nurses told me i couldn't but i insisted. if you are someone who's too not happy with the idea of being comando under your gown whilst being unconscious with a bunch of people surrounding you. insist to. just wear them.
worst case scenario they "cut them off during an emergency" which they need to document. so it really will be an emergency or you can sue them.

I have used a vaginal suppository prescribed by gyn in night. In morning, there was a gross whitish deposit on the inner wear. I took bath and cleaned up well, but now also, I see certain discharge on my underwear and some whitish granules on the vulva.
Have I used the suppository in some wrong way? and is there anything I should have done in morning to clean up?

I was just wondering if any of you have tried Kinesiology tape?
My OA is so severe now, and I am living in constant agony, with my life basically on hold until my next TKR (49 YO and feel like i'm on the scrapheap!) Anyway, I've been reading a bit about K Taping, and thought I'd give it a go. I can't BELIEVE how effective it is! The pain is all but gone, the grating bone-on-bone has reduced, and I can get in and out of my house without a crutch/stick! Which I haven't been able to do for about 12 month.
I only tried it today for the first time, but by golly I'm hooked! The relief is instant, and constant (so far).
Id be interested to hear if anyone else has tried it, and if the relief is long-lasting or a flash in the pan.

I had my right one done last Friday so are in the early stages of recovery.
Not feeling too bad at the moment night time being the worst with the leg in one place and when the painkillers wear off .As it is difficult to get any sleep.
A certain feeling of deja vu but it will be worth it in the end.

Has anyone found that these injections make you put on weight. I have had a fair few and due for some more next week. In the beginning I had a spine injection and then in the leg - I am on Pazital and Lyrica but a lose dose. But looking back, the injections have been the best as I walk quite a bit.
I know the UK have a maximum - but can't remember how many. I last had the injections about 3 years ago, 4 in one thigh and 3 in the other. I suppose it depends on the strength too but I haven't ever been told the strength.

I am two weeks two days post surgery. I have been told to wear my trainers most of the day by the hospital. That was hard but u could cope. Now the pain is awful. I know it is to reduce swelling but I couldn't continue today so I've taken them off and gone for the frozen peas instead.
I couldn't find any info about this problem so decided to post myself. (The saver here is obscuring my writing so sorry if there are any errors). Has any one had any experience with this? Or any advice please?

everyone that suffer from osteoarthritis! I had to post a message about the recent news about a possible cure for the long term disease that's osteoarthritis. Recent research suggests that a compound ( sulforaphane) found in broccoli if used in the form of a pill ( you would have to eat vast amounts of broccoli to get equal benefits to one dose of the drug) blocks the inflammation and damage to the cartilage. SFX-01 it's called. Science is amazing I hope it will not take too long to have it available and help millions of people

Drunk - was propositioned outside bar downtown on way home. Lady offered me oral sex for $. I stupidly agreed. We had condom on - it was her condom, she put it on me.
After 30 seconds or so, I stupidly slid my condom covered penis into her vagina. About 10 seconds later I came to my senses, pulled out with condom. She took condom off me and I left.
Paranoid about:
1. What if condom had tear (I didn't see it at end to verify).
2. B/C lady was a professional, and working by a bar, I assume her risk of HIV is higher (Canada is location).
3. I am married. I worry about having sex with wife until I can be confident I won't give her anything.
For context - have been married for about a dozen yrs, and have never been unfaithful - never kissed, oral, vaginal, anal with any other person. I was very intoxicated resulting in my atypical behavior. This is my first risk experience.
Please let me know your thoughts. Should I get tested for HIV, STI?
