Orthopedics :: Numbness In Big Toe
Dec 1, 2014
My foot was ran over by a car some months ago, and my big toe has been numb since then. Sometimes it causes me to trip when i'm walking without shoes on. What do you suppose I do about it?

I have had a chronic cough for 4 weeks now and still coughing. Just yesterday after I coughed, my right side rib was hurting alot. It hurts to move, breathe, and cough. The pain also goes to my back on the right side and up to my armpit. Is it possible that I have cracked a rib from coughing too hard?
Thank you,
Cassie

Ok so Iv damaged my leg somehow a few days ago whilst out drinking and at first I thought it was going to be fine, there was no bruise it just stung to touch as if I was being stabbed with a pin. I rested the next day as it bothered me to walk on it, I limp when walking, its the third day now and it still feels like im being stabbed with even the softest touch and still no bruise .....

About a year ago my ex partner pushed me forcefully in the throat. Immediately I told him that he had done something to my neck. I gripped my throat with my hand to hold it back in place. I had experienced a popping in my throat and knew something was wrong. From that day to this I have had trouble swallowing my own saliva. Eating is difficult and I stopped drinking for fear of the bone clicking out of line. It usually happens when my head is turned to the left side and I either yawn or swallow. This immediately causes my larynx to pop out and it is petrifying as you think you are going to die. This has caused me to have panic attacks and a fear of swallowing. I recently had the start of kidney failure due to not drinking enough due to fear of swallowing. When I try to swallow my own saliva I cannot complete the motion and continuously feel if I have a thick lump in my throat and to swallow I have to swallow hard which causes me to have a sharp pain in my jaw and pain going from my throat to my ear, which feels tender all the time. This injury was reported to the police and I have now had an ultrasound and being sent for further investigations in the ENT dept. I am waiting for an appointment now. I have started to search the web for information on the larynx .. What does it look like, how does it work etc. and came across your site where I have read about other people having exactly he same larynx popping out problem. It truly is frightening and gives me such discomfort and I constant reminder of the assault. I wonder if this can be operated on to relieve the pain and discomfort.

I think I have a wrist strain or sprain in my left wrist. I can hold my hand straight out, fingers stretched out, & when I turn it to the left (sideways, palm side down), it feels like a catch & may be a little popping at times. Is this indicative of a strain or sprain?

I am a 34 year old male, no illnesses, suffering from hip pain for a while. The pain is on the outside of the hip in-line with the groin area, it doesn't hurt to walk but lifting and moving the leg when sitting/laying causes pain, as does doing butterfly stretches and bending the knee inwards/outwards. When it's particularly painful my whole leg will ache right down to the ankle.

I posted this in foot and ankle but am getting no responses.
I have contacted my surgeon and he is out of town and I am stressed.
So trying this here.
1.5 weeks ago I had ligament tightening surgery. I am still in a sling.
The sling seems to be very loose already as it moves around and I can fit my entire hand down the sling.
I keep getting sharp pains like little lightning bolts. At first it was from where my incision is but today I also feel it in another part of my foot where I think they did work but not totally sure.
I just want to know if these sharp pains are normal or if I should be going to the hospital.
I am supposed to get my cast in one week by now concerned as it will not be as flexible as the sling.

I have moderate growing pains in my left leg (front of the calve) and I'm 16. Ever since I can remember myself I've had growing pains just in my legs at the front of my calves but it's mostly in my left leg every now and then, and it usually happens when I stay up late at night. Sometimes it's so bad it wakes me up and I'm crying all night and can't sleep and sometimes i can just wait for an hour or so until it's gone. I checked online and I think I'm too old to be having growing pains and I wanted to check of everything is normal.

For over about two months now I have been having pain in my right upper leg near the joint. Better way to explain it is when you sometimes put it in a weird position it pops and kind of hurts. Well it's like that but all the time all day sometimes. Recently it makes getting into my car and crossing my legs a task. Also, I feel light headed a good majority of the day. The light headedness only started with my leg issue. I have tried stretching my leg and rubbing it maybe thinking it's a pulled muscle but nothing seems to work. Is this something I need to worry about?

I am only 43yrs old and the mother of a 1yr old and a 5 1/2 yr old....I had an ACL replacement approx. 20yrs ago, and now have severe pain and instability. I can't fully extend my knee due to extreme pain, (in the best case), and sometimes it feels as though something is caught in there....something that still has feeling, and I cant even walk on it,(worst case and about 50% of the time). I did not injure it that I know of, but MRI now shows ACL graft is gone and many other tears and OA. I don't understand the rest of the report - here are some of the phrases.....
(ACL)..graft not well visualized, suspicious for complete disruption.
Complex tearing...anterior horn lateral meniscus.
Partial lateral extrusion...body lateral meniscus with addt'l. complex tearing.
Irregularity of free edge and inferior surface posterior horn lateral meniscus...addt'l. tearing.
Complex tearing..body...medial meniscus extending to inf articular surf at junction of body and post. horn. Complete radial tear...assoc degen macerated tearing which is extensive involving post horn med meniscus.
...mild cartilage thinning involving lat patellar facet & med aspect of femoral trochlea.
...near full-thickness cartilage loss...lat weightbearing surface...lat femoral condyle.
...near full-thickness cartilage loss...lat tibial plateau.......

I am 18 years old and i have a right side that is bigger than my left: my quads, lats, arm, and knee caps. I asked the doctor and he said it was puberty and it would just even out and i think he just said that because he did not say. I have been doing the isolation exercises that people say you are supposed to do and they are not working. Will it all even out when i am older or not?

6.5 weeks ago I had bunion surgery and joint fusion, and apparently the surgeon has also 'lifted' my big toe up, I'm not sure what the medical term is. I'm still not walking without the orthopaedic shoe for another 1.5 weeks, so it's hard to say if it has been successful or not yet. I have a giant scar right down the side of my foot which doesn't bother me really and a plate and screws. My big toe is now almost a couple of cm (about half an inch) shorter than the same toe on the other foot, which it never used to be. Have others had this too? From an aesthetic perspective, it's weird but I guess I'll get over it. What about other physical complications?
I'm 27 and very active normally. I still have a decent amount of swelling, particularly in one spot where perhaps the plate is (I really hope I don't have to have it removed!). I'm hopeful for a good recovery but had hip surgery only 9 months ago and that didn't work very well. I knew two surgeries in a row would be tough, but it's been harder than I expected, possibly because I had the opposite hip done so bearing weight has been hard and it was my right foot so I've been stuck not being able to drive. I keep reminding myself it could be worse.
I've booked a hiking holiday in 3.5 months time, I know I'll probably suffer some swelling but really hope I can do it without pain.

Recently I have noticed that I can't bend my elbow all the way and I assume it's because I worked it too much and didn't stretch. It only hurts a little bit when I try to extend it all the way. Is there any way I can fix it?

About two years ago I had pneumonia and while violently coughing I popped 4 of my ribs by my sternum. I went to the ER and they said it was fine that they were dislocated, then a couple months later to Urgent care and they also didnt see concerned. Well the past week or so they seem to have pushed out more and are in pain and my back has been hurting extremely bad on the same side as my ribs.
Question
1) Is this dangerous?
2) Would it require surgery?
