Neuropathy :: How To Keep Cold From Causing Them Pain?
Apr 30, 2014
Just going into an air conditioned room; a fan is blowing on my legs; even at home in the evenings my feet and calves get cold. Then comes that cold-to-the-bone feeling for hours. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do to prevent the misery from cold feet that are hard to warm up?

I came across this syndrome when searching the Internet about extreme pain I have when I take the first bite EVERY time I eat and sometimes drink. That this could be a symptom of this syndrome but I don't know. I do have some of the other symptoms, i.e. neuropathy, blurry vision, muscle pain, fatigue but these can also be associated with Type 1 Diabetes which I have. Also, came across parotid/salivary glands are affected which also can cause the jaw to ear pain I'm having. Has anyone heard that the Coxsackie virus can have anything to do with it? How do you know for sure if it is Sjogren's and what type of doctor do you see about it - a primary?

Has anyone tried methadone for nerve pain? I've just started a low dose and wondered if you had any side effects and how long they lasted? Most important, any relief?

I've suffered with chronic pain in groin area for over 2years now after a few tests and Mri exam my specialist Dr Chawla told me there's no cure for Neuropathy besides help with medication and pain clinic. None of the painkillers have worked, bad time with side effects! I recently had Acupuncture with Gp only for the pain to spread all over body.
I have had no help and as single parent to 2 children this puts a strain on my depression. I don't want this to take over my life.

For about 1 and a half years I have had constant stomach pain; from a few hours a day to whole days at a time. Some days the pain is bearable but other days I literally cannot move and have to go on my hands and knees to help shift the pain.
The doctors firstly diagnosed me with an acid issue and prescribed Omeprazole. This medication did not help me at all.
I was referred to the Gastroenterologist who done some checks and blood tests and thought it may be a bad case of IBS.
I have taken numerous IBS medication which has also failed to work for me. I am on Tramadol and Co-codamol to help relieve the pain but it only lasts so long.
Often when I get these stomach pains I get cold sweats and a temperature with nausea. The doctors are determined that the issue with IBS with acid issues but I don't have any of the symptoms of IBS besides stomach pain and no certain foods seem to bring the pain on.

On top of everything else, it would appear as though I'm having issues with my TMJ...I believe I'm a jaw clencher when I'm anxious (which is pretty much always), and I'm also a sloucher at my desk, and this has caused the muscles in my neck to become VERY tense....could this tension be causing my headaches as well? And what about the persistent off-balance feeling that I seem to have whenever the tension strikes? My head just feels so heavy...as though my poor neck can barely support it. I had a massage last night and the therapist was astonished at how tight my muscles were, especially on the sides of my neck, behind my ears, and in my shoulders....all related? Does anyone else experience this? The pain is pretty intense and over-the-counter pain relievers (like Advil) don't do a thing for it.

I'm 18 and i was diagnosed with scoliosis at a young age. I wore a brace to correct the curvature for about 2-3 years. The brace would put pressure on my hips and after some time I would have pain in my lower back, down my buttocks, down the back of
the leg and into the toes. It's sharp and searing and sometimes there's tingling and numbness. Could this be sciatica caused by the brace? Is it possible that it pinched the nerves and caused permanent damage? All I know is that it is extremely painful and hard to get to go away..

Like I said in "Roll Call". I am starting all over again. Anyone know what helps with perc withdrawl (withdrawal) pain I took around 14 a day give or take a few. I have tried to taper but dont have the will power, everytime I do I screaw it up. So cold turkey is the only way. Is that harmful or should I just do it? I am scared, alone and just want to get through the worst of this. If I can just make it through the physical pain I hate this life so much I would never do anything to bring myself back to it. So I try again.

I have been dealing with the first few months of CRPS which started as burning hot and has changed to a freezing foot that turns blue or purple. Lately I have noticed the bottom of my foot will be ice cold but the top of my foot is normal temp, my toes are like ice. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am battling the workers comp nightmare right now and I hate to tell them about this as it may complicate an already horrible experience dealing with them.

I have been taking Lansoprazole since April of 2014. I have just developed upper back pain and pain in my sternum area. I also just started taking Potassium supplementation for low potassium. One of these, I believe is causing my back pain.
Anyone else out there suffering from upper (and lower) back pain and pain in the sternum area? Did it stop when you discontinued the Lansoprazole?
Thank you for any help!

I've got a bump on my buttcheeck, that when touched produces small local pain but notable pain on my tailbone. the distance between both spots is about 2 inches. Is it common for herpes lesions, when touched, to cause pain not locally but rather at the end of the nerve?

I am a 43 year old male and have been experiencing knee pain for about 5 months now. I didn't really notice something was wrong until December last year when I started going on long country walks and after walking a mile or two, a mild pain started to develop in my right knee, which gradually got worse the more I walked. I would say the pain feels like it's coming from under the kneecap close to the surface of the skin. It's definitely not coming from within the knee bone. I find after sitting down the pain eventually goes away. I can walk fine and don't have any other pain in either knee in general day to day activities. It's only when I start walking long distances that the pain in my right knee comes on. My health in general is good and don't suffer from any health issues. I wanted to see if the knee would improve over the 5 months or go back to normal but it hasn't and has stayed the same since December. Could anyone give me an idea what might be causing this? I have not seen a doctor yet but will now make an appointment first thing Monday morning.

My mom, now 65 years old, started experiencing problems with frequent urination and pain during urination. At first she thought it was just UTI and her doctor gave her antibiotics. However, it’s been 3 weeks after she finished her antibiotics and she still says she has problems with urination.
The only other medication she is taking for high cholesterol is Zocor and she’s been on it for years now, but is it possible that Zocor is causing my mom’s issues?

I have a horrendous rash on my feet, upper arms, back and hands. I have been taking Omeprazole for about 6 weeks, and am due to see a consultant in a few days. As no one had mentioned a rash to me, I assumed it was a heat rash, as I have a habit of warming my feet by the fire, but the rash has got much worse, and now I have ENORMOUS blisters on my big toes and small ones elsewhere on my feet and hands. I have phoned the GP surgery as I see this is listed as a possible side effect, and was told to stop taking the omeprazole which I did yesterday. So far there is no improvement, but it is only 24 hours, so I am hoping there will be some improvement very soon. I have also lost my sense of taste and smell which may be due to a bad cold, but I have a very dry mouth and a horrid taste in it when I wake up in the morning. This is also a listed side effect. The doctor I spoke to seemed to think the rash IS due to the omeprazole. Incidentally, I took lapromazole for 2 weeks previously, but it gave me dreadful diarrhoea, so the consultant changed me to omeprazole. I will post another message on here when I have seen the consultant.

I had a heart attack in June 2012 and was put on many medications one of them being Atorvastatin (Lipitor) 40mg per day. After a couple of months I was in absolute agony with muscle pain which started in my left arm and shoulder, even had some numbness in fingers. The pain over the last 18 months or so has worsened going into my left shoulder and left side of my neck and now is in the whole of both my shoulders and all the back of my neck. The doctor has constantly denied it is any of the meds that I am taking and has sent me to physiotherapy many times, needless to say none of the various therapists have helped. I have been to see an osteopath, this didn't help either. I have had steroid injections into one of my shoulders, no help from that.
My pain gets worse by the week and is seriously affecting my daily life from work (I am a secretary) to driving to doing any of my enjoyed sports of fishing and golf.
I have spoken to many friends on this statin and they all complain of similar muscle pain. Why won't the doctors listen to me when I tell them this.
I have today stopped taking the Lipitor as I cannot take this pain any more. I have previously stopped this on two separate occasions and found the pain almost went away until the Doctors got quite stroppy with me and told me I was going against medical advice doing what I was doing in stopping the medication.
Is there others out there that have suffered this and have found what to do to get GP's to listen to their patient?

Any experience with gabapentin causing chronic pain problems when taking or withdrawing? During my taper I developed major issues with sciatica and my hip. I'm also taking forever to heal from a frozen shoulder injury (14 months). I had preexisting issues. My guess is it's from all the couch time necessary to heal. But it feels like it shouldn't be this bad. I'm only 29

I was told that I have Plantar Fasciitis. I was given inserts for my shoe but I can't use them as they give me hip pain which is worse than the heel pain. I've tried resting my foot and this helps but I can't rest for ever. I love walking and it keeps me fit.

I have sever back pain and haven't been able to work since August. I am unable to stand, sit or walk for long periods of time. It hurts to sneeze, cough, bend or pick anything up. The pain is constant, stabbing at times and it feels like I have a rock in my spine. They have done facet and epidural injections. I take an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer and Norco (3 times a day). They tried to put me on Neurontin but it made me too sick. I have had every test done imaginable and basically what I have is degenerative disk disease with mild broad-base bulge. Bilateral facet arthropathy and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. Indentation of the thecal sac in L4-L5. L5-S1 bilateral arthropathy. L3-L4 bilateral ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and a left nerve sleeve cyst (synovial cyst).
My surgeon wants to do a foraminotomy because I have radiculopathy on L4-L5 and then do a spinal cord stimulator for the pain. He isn't worried about the cyst...said it isn't the reason for my sever back pain. From what I have been reading, all of my symptoms sound like its the cyst causing at least some of the pain. Am I wrong to second guess his opinion? I just don't want to have these surgeries done and then later down the road turn around and have to have the cyst removed.
