Mirtazapine :: Ultra High Doses Work?
Dec 14, 2014
Is there anybody who finds that ultra high doses of mirtazapine worked better for them? In the past I have taken mirtazapine in doses 30 mg and it had worked for a while but then I have changed my meds (bad for me). The second time I have taken mirt 45 mg without success It's the best drug I have ever taken, but it's not working anymore. I have taken many of the drugs, like SSRIs, bupropion and others, but none of them worked like mirtazapine in the past. How do you think, is there any possibility that ultra high doses like 60-90 mg would be work better for me?

I would like to know why there is an opinion that if mirt works for you ,you are naive.for every person it doesn't work for there must be a person it works for.

Very healthy adult male, with these numbers:
LH: <0.2 (undetectable)
FSH: <0.2 (undetectable)
Vitamins D, 25-hydroxy: 27.4
T: 154
All of these are abnormally low. I feel fine, but I suffer from ED, low libido
Doctors 'note' on the bottom of the test results were:
Needs to see endocrinology specialist AASAP!
Ok, nobody likes to see ASAP! Written by a Physician... How worried should I be?

im currently on 20mg of nortriptyline which I take everyday before bed. I have been on it for approximately two months. I was prescribed them for chronic daily basilar type vestibular migraine and struggling very very badly. Today I pretty much fainted, feeling ultra foggy, unable to speak or understand what people are saying and having numb legs and hands, as well as a fast heartbeat. Can I just stop taking these tablets on 20mg or do I need to taper down further? They have stopped all aspects of pain but the side effects are so extreme.

I've done Percocet for years now and I finally decided to quit , this is my second day without using any percocets. The first night was absolutely crazy and didn't even sleep one hour and I'm dead serious ! After tossing and turning all night getting hot and cold skin crawling restless legs etc, I had a my sister get me a 8 mg suboxone strip from a friend at her work. I cut it in three pieces so it's a little over 2.5 mg a piece. I took a dose of this at 5 am. When should I take my next dose of this ? How long does it last?

I'm 19, this is my first pregnancy and as such, my first (and ONLY) abortion.
I received the methotrexate shot on Thursday, and on Saturday morning I inserted 4 misoprostol pills vaginally. A few hours later, I got some pretty bad cramping (wouldn't call it severe, but definitely like a really bad period). A few hours later, they completely went away besides the occasional discomfort. I had no bleeding (or spotting, not a drop), so I went to bed hoping to wake up in a puddle of mess (never thought I'd HOPE for that).
I woke up this morning with still no blood. Took the second dosage in the morning and again, 12 hours later, NOTHING. I don't even have cramping (very mild discomfort, but I think I just feel that way because I'm expecting pain or something. Might all just be mental).
This has been a really rough few days for me (I found out I was pregnant the same day I received the shot) and the idea of having to perform a surgical abortion after all of this seems unbearable. Has anyone done a medical abortion and didn't have blood/ bad pains until DAYS after?

I have Hashimoto's. I was diagnosed with this 2 years ago. I take 75mcg T4 and 10mcg T3 but I want to raise this on alternate days with 100mcg T4 and 15 mcg T3. My endo does not yet know I want to do this because I'm worried she will think I'm doing something silly.
I have had my thyroid function test done last week and the results have come back but I'm not being told what they are until I get it in writing. The endo wants my TSH to come back up to 2.5.
Symptoms I have:
Goitre (ultrasound says thyroid is swollen but no nodules)
Difficulty swallowing
Ongoing cough
Headaches
Joint pains
Dry eyes
Dry ears
Dry mouth
Constipation
Itchy feeling in throat (front of neck where thyroid is)
Hair loss
Heavy periods
Painful periods
Pale skin
Dizziness when standing
Fatigue
Peeling skin
Peeling nails

I have just started on the 30m Mirtazapine and it's my 3rd night taking them ans i have read up on a lot of different forums that there are patients gaining weight off these? well i would like to know what the odds are of gaining weight because i have always had problems with weight gain, i can never put on any weight, no matter how much i eat, i have a fast metabolism and i am wondering, will the mirtazapine surpass my high metabolism. also in some cases i've heard it slows your metabolism down too.. but it would actually be a benefit for me to gain some extra weight.

For the first time in a very long time, I'm finally in a good enough place to make the step in coming off my Anti-depressant. I've been on Mirtazapine 45mg for the last 4/5 years and before that a string of various of medications.
Despite my anxiety been kind of excessive at the moment, after a discussion with my GP, he was happy to let me begin tapering down the dose. The problem is with my anxiety I feel it mainly physically rather than mentally so it makes me a little oversensitive to any changes that take place in my body.
I guess what I am searching for is some reassurance so I can stop driving myself up the wall, exhausting google search on mirtazapine withdrawal. 6 nights ago I started my first reduction so 45 mg to 30mg. In all honesty it's not been that bad, a few waves of nausea, headaches and random aches and pains. Those I was expecting so don't mind too much. The trouble is that for the last 3 days, I've found myself a little short of breath for most of the day. It's nothing that's outwardly noticeable at the moment, but it's there and is slightly concerning. Has anyone else experienced this when tapering?
I'm kind of freaked out a little because one of my fears that's arisen since the mirtazapine is the that i will develop random allergies and my brain is wondering if I've suddenly developed an allergy to my meds (ridiculous, I know!) The other thing is that the rest of my family has had either viral chest problems lately so maybe I've just picked up that and it's a coincidence? Or it could just be the anxiety.
I'm totally spinning myself in circles at the moment so any wise words are most welcome at this point. If I know it is just withdrawal and nothing that can actually hurt me then I'm fine with whatever effects it throws at me.

i am not overweight. Drink a healthy smoothie and whole grain cereal almost every morning yet my BP is still high. (100/170). I was told it may be because of elevated insulin levels caused by the fruit drinks and whole grains (as well as the potato, rice, pasta and breads) that I eat. These are things that easily break down into sugars and cause the issue. (Basically a carb issue). Am I supposed to go on one of those caveman diets? Has anyone tried lowering their carb intake to lower their BP?

Let me start off by saying I am a 20 year old male who was fine before all of this started. I went to the ER for chest pain and palpitations they did the basic test like EKG Xray and Blood work. The ER doctor said i was fine and they let em go home but said i need to see a cardiologist to just make sure everything was fine. So i went to see a cardiologist and the hospital faxed over all of my test results. Based on my ER visits EKG i have an abnormally high P wave everything else on the EKG was fine. They set me up for a Echocardiogram to make sure i did not have an enlarged heart. that test came back normal and they said i did not have a enlarged heart. They set me up for a Stress Echo test I went in for the test got my heart rate up to 200bpm the before and after pictures of my heart looked good and they said everything was working fine and that i was healthy. But during the test i still have those high P waves showing up on the EKG which he said was caused because I am very thin chested and my hear beats close to the surface of my chest so the EKG pick up a higher voltage. Now i have noticed a slight arrhythmia when i take my pulse it tends to beat at 60 bpm then 5 or 6 beats later it jumps to 80 bpm then back to 60 after 5 or so beats. This comes and goes and does not happen all the time and when it does happen it only last up to 30 minutes but during that time i feel fatigued . And finally my blood pressure seems high the systolic pressure is always within normal range its the diastolic that always above normal when i tested my blood pressure with a home blood pressure monitor today it was at 135 over 87 then when i tested it later on in the day it was 127 over 83 i have noticed in multiple test the diastolic seem to float around the mid 80's to 90's the highest i have seen is 133 over 99. The cardiologist does not see to think there is anything wrong with me I have another appointment this week to bring up the high blood pressure and the arrhythmia.

Hi, Is is possible to have a high heart rate while at the same time a normal rate of blood pressure? I'm asking on behalf of a relative... I thought blood pressure would be high if the heart rate was also high?

I was initially on(30mg) for 8 weeks for depression and anxiety. And I did start to feel better, although the blurry vision and the derealisation side effects started to make me anxious again. I think the light head was the anxiety not the tablets.
Went back to work and made an appointment with the Doctor to see if there was another antidepressant with no side effects as I didn't think the Mirt was working.
He told me how to gradually come off the Mirtazapine and then to start Those days coming off the Mirtazapine were fine and the 3 days I took nothing I felt great again! Well what an awful reaction I had to the Citalopram ! Heart thumping, sickness, mind racing, pins and needles, total insomnia for 3 days and the anxiety attacks were awful! I actually phoned NHS Direct.
When I spoke to the Doctor , he said that I had a reaction and the tablets obviously didn't agree. In a knowing smile, he said that I should perhaps go back on the Mirt and that I came off them too quickly.
I am now on no medication , but can feel the awful anxiety still there from the Citalopram episode and am wondering if I will slip back to square one again if I don't take anything. The Doctor has given me a prescription for 15mg 1 week and thereafter 30mg. Perhaps the side effects weren't that bad and as the nurse said " only got bothersome because I was feeling better".
So I'm thinking that I will go back to the Mirtazapine and perhaps they aren't that bad!

Now at day 41 and stapedectomy still not working. Hearing was no better when packing was removed at 2 weeks. Surgeon said it will still be fluid. Climbing the walls counting EVERY single day. Waiting for something to happen. Just had a weeks course of steroids, no difference. It feels as if i'm in a goldfish bowl and everybody around me is on the outside, i feel like i'm in a deep hole and can't get out. I'm sure there's still fluid there as i can feel it when i swallow, and also on several occasions each day when i swallow, mainly listening to music, i get a one split second burst of loudness which after reading the internet makes me thinks it's my tube blocked? But it doesn't hold open for longer than a swallow. I also get like a thumping on my eardrum when i belch, as if a blast hits it? This also wakes me in the night with the banging. Not that i sleep much as EVERY waking moment of my life at the moment is consumed by it. I've had 6 weeks off work until now, due to go back in tomorrow. My unsteadiness had cleared for about 10 days but came back with avengence a couple of days ago. Not vertigo dizziness, but like the quick movements dizziness. I do still get crackling and clicking in my ear. Spoke to surgeons secretary last thursday who is going to get a message to him this tuesday, as that's the first time she will see him apparently. Has anybody else had fluid for this amount of time, or can give any advice or anything to make me feel it'll still work and that i can get my life back?
