Meralgia Paresthetica After Knee Surgery / Arthroscopy

Apr 26, 2016

I had Knee Arthroscopy in Jan 15, when I awoke I had Chronic pain in my thigh they advised it was due to the Tourniquet, had meds for it and it eased of I was discharged an hour or so later as soon as I could walk on crutches. A few days later I awoke to a burning sensation at the side of my thigh. Ended up in A&E and they advised I have Meralgia Paresthetica it is very rare but can happen. I have currently going through pain clinic and am on 300 Lyrica and 60 Duloxetine a day, have also being using Capiscan cream nothing works and my pain management is down to calls had MRI's and Nerve testing nothing showing but they know something is wrong due to I can't stand being touched it burns after the easiest tasks etc. I am at my wits end does anyone have any other ideas as I really don't want to be on tablets for ever and a day

Orthopedics :: Arthroscopy Or Knee Replacement?

I am only 43yrs old and the mother of a 1yr old and a 5 1/2 yr old....I had an ACL replacement approx. 20yrs ago, and now have severe pain and instability.  I can't fully extend my knee due to extreme pain, (in the best case), and sometimes it feels as though something is caught in there....something that still has feeling, and I cant even walk on it,(worst case and about 50% of the time).  I did not injure it that I know of, but MRI now shows ACL graft is gone and many other tears and OA.  I don't understand the rest of the report - here are some of the phrases.....
(ACL)..graft not well visualized, suspicious for complete disruption.

Complex tearing...anterior horn lateral meniscus.

Partial lateral extrusion...body lateral meniscus with addt'l. complex tearing.

Irregularity of free edge and inferior surface posterior horn lateral meniscus...addt'l. tearing.

Complex tearing..body...medial meniscus extending to inf articular surf at junction of body and post. horn.   Complete radial tear...assoc degen macerated tearing which is extensive involving post horn med meniscus.

...mild cartilage thinning involving lat patellar facet & med aspect of femoral trochlea.

...near full-thickness cartilage loss...lat weightbearing surface...lat femoral condyle.

...near full-thickness cartilage loss...lat tibial plateau.......

Arthroscopy :: Lateral Release Or Partial Knee Replacement?

I'm in so much pain there is no space under my patella my knee is very swollen. Walking is getting increasingly difficult let alone the stairs. I have been referred to a surgeon who has offered me to either have a lateral release or partial knee replacement. I am very confused I thought I might go for the lateral as less invasive as at 44 I'm not sure whether to go down the knee replacement route yet. I would welcome your response to either of these procedures and any suggestions as to which to have?

Ankle Arthroscopy With Microfracture

So I had ankle arthroscopy with microfracture for an OCD in my left ankle on 13 Apr 16.

On discharge from hospital I was told by the physiotherapist that the surgeon was happy for me to walk on the ankle as soon as I could. I thought this was pretty crazy but surgeons know best right? It seemed at the time that the only reason I was given crutches was because I had been given a local anaesthetic nerve block in my left leg in addition to the general anaesthetic and therefore could not put my foot down as it was numb, although I still felt pain in the area of surgery which again I thought was odd. I was not given any form of cast or boot.

Between discharge and my post op review I stayed mainly non weight bearing but after a week or so I started trying to partial weight bear and tried to walk without crutches. My ankle was not happy about this one bit! And so I reverted to non weight bearing, hopping around everywhere on crutches.

At my post op review I saw a podiatrist and voiced my concerns that I could not yet walk and was still feeling pain. I then saw a different surgeon to the one who performed the op, who confirmed that his patients are always given an aircast boot and told to non weight bear for 2 weeks post op!! He then gave me a boot and told me to wear it for a maximum of 2 weeks and then to try to walk again. I am now at that point and I cannot walk and I am still in pain.

Does anyone have any advice/opinions on this?

Those who have started to walk, did you have pain at first and just carried on through it?

I'd be grateful for any comments, good or bad. I can be quite pessimistic at times but I'm afraid I may have hindered my recovery my following the initial instructions.

Knee Surgery :: Nerve Block Now Can't Feel Ankle After Two Days?

They are going to do a CT SCAN with dye tomorrow. Will continue story but right now has anyone had this problem?

Plantar Fasciitis :: Hip Arthroscopy Relieved It

I don't know if this will help anyone, but thought I'd post it in case it does. I had been suffering from painful plantar fasciitis for 5 months with no relief from painkillers, icing, physio exercises or stretching. Then 4 weeks ago I had a hip arthroscopy that meant my leg being put in traction for the procedure. I woke up with the plantar fasciitis completely gone, and so far there are no signs of it returning. I wondered whether there are any physiotherapists or other medical professionals that may be able to offer some sort of traction treatment to give that extra stretch to the muscles to relieve or possibly even get rid of plantar fasciitis for others. It might be worth considering as a treatment option if there are no other risks associated.

Bone On Bone - Partial Knee Replacement After Microfracture Surgery?

I am a 47 year old female. I had Microfracture Knee surgery on January 12, 2016 and it was not a success. My doctor said that I am still bone on bone and will need a partial knee replacement. He uses the Oxford Partial Knee and says it is the best one to go with. I was able to get a Synvisc injection on May 12, 2016. My doctor and I are both hopeful that this will give me some time to make this big decision. I have had a really hard time recovering from the microfracture surgery. I was on crutches for five weeks and my knee got stuck in a bent position. I was in therapy for three months and I still cannot walk with a straight knee. The thought of undergoing another surgery is so scary.  I just want to be normal again and do all the things that I used to do before.

Bone / Joint :: Knee Pain: Ligament Tightness Behind Knee, Slight Knee Pain Under Kneecap

So I dislocated my knee in January of this year.  I was given a device that isolates my knee cap and hold it in place.  I wore the device off and on over the year whenever my knee would feel sort of irregular. I worked out routinely to help strengthen my knee, it helped the pain somewhat, but mostly just made me feel better about the way I looked, and kept me healthy.  I haven't worked out since some time before Thanksgiving.  Starting this week i've started to feel this new akward feeling behind my kneecap, sort of like the ligament behind my knee cap is tightening, sort of similar to how it felt when I dislocated my knee, but not exactly the same.  I get the pain after fully bending my knee, for example when I am on my knees doing my job stocking shelves at work, when I stand to my feet I can usually feel the pain.  I try doing a couple of different stretches when to make the feeling go away a bit, but it comes back, and then it eventually goes away again.

My knee "pops" (makes a loud popping noise and pressure) pretty regularly now but when I get off of work and off of my knees I experience the discomfort much less. I want to start exercising again on Monday, but I am scared I might dislocate again.  I will try using the knee cap device again tomorrow, but I feel as though whenever I use the device, it makes my knee feel like jello the next day, and make me want to use the device again, even though I was advised by my doctor that I should not need to use it regularly. ....

Knee :: ACL Ligament Tear In My Left Knee Numb

I have an ACL ligament tear in my left knee. This happened about five years ago. I was on waiting list & got a call to do surgery, but then I got pregnant, so I had to go back on waiting list. It must be a long list because I am still waiting. They have looked at it again because of the soreness around the knee when I walk. My doctor told me I have mild arthritis in my left knee now, but can still go through surgery.

This past week, I was in a situation where I didn't do much walking, laid around for most of day. I didn't have a pillow to use for my knee to be propped up, so I just used my right leg or had my left leg on its side when I laid down on my left side. I don't feeling anything around my knee now. It is numb! Would anyone know what is wrong? I tried to apply ice to it, but I can't feel it. I still can walk ok, though. Thanks!

Knee :: Physical Therapy After Partial Knee Replacement

I am 42 yrs old and had a Partial Knee Replacement done on Jan 6th...outpatient...went to first PT the next morning. Wasn't too bad...2nd was a little rougher and I was in more pain. 3rd visit had a different therapist and she pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for. She basically forced bended my knee and forced straighten it..said it's to keep scar tissues from interfering with recovery...this was extremely painful. I am curious to if this is normal protocol on your 3rd visit of PT..which was 7 days post op...I was in soo much pain I could not go to my next PT. Plus I have bruising on my ankle from her force bending with her body weight...I figured I would go back on Monday when my normal Therapist will be there....I have made progress with bending and straightening and don't think I should be rushed like that...I am still in alot of pain but am able to walk around house without crutches. I have been icing and elevating along with doing my homework PT.

Knee Braces Helpful After Total Knee Replacement

I am a 31 year old female about to have a TKR due to severe arthritis caused by PVNS. Currently I have very weak quads and calves in my bad knee from major loss of knee extension. I've heard that it's really hard to go into replacement surgery with weak muscles. I was wondering if I should get a knee brace for after surgery to help with some support until I get my strength back? Has anyone tried these webbing braces and if so do they help? I know some of the immobilizing braces actually cause atrophy.
