i started depo provera and it was fine until it was about 2 months into it when i started bleeding after having protected sex. This continued and i stopped depo provera and still have had light, brown coloured spotting for about 3 weeks after i stopped. What could this be from?
View 10 Replieson March 16th i got my first ever shot of depo provera. The first 4 weeks were great no side affects. Then a week after my period was due I started spotting and my periods only last 3 days this has been spotting for 2 weeks. So I go to the doctor and complain that i am spotting for awhile and he gave me prescription for provera 10 mgs to take for 10 days. Isn't that stuff the same stuff the shot is made out of? How and will this help?

View 1 RepliesI got told I have pcos about a month ago , I got out on the depo shot to help with the symptoms/ pains, I had my period for a week, I Stopped bleeding the sat before Halloween, ever since then I've had dark brown discharge , all day every day , and still getting it now, and every now and then I with get a stabbing pain in my lower turn my/ hip area and ill get a lil blood but then back to the discharge, has this ever happened to anyone I don't know if I should go to the doctors or not ?

I've been sexually active with the same partner for a little over a year and neither of us have any STD's, so we've been having unprotected sex. I last took my depo a little over a month ago and have never had any kind of bleeding or spotting while on it. Recently, however, I've been having a watery brown discharge instead of white/clear, and I am slightly concerned. It's been happening for about a week, and I was last sexually active about 2 weeks ago. I have no pains to speak of, no itchiness or anything, so I would like to know if this is something to take concern in. Is this normal when I've been taking the shot regularly for so long? Would a new symptom just appear like that? Or am I pregnant?
View 1 RepliesI have heard that estrogen can be prescribed if you are experiencing spotting while taking the depo shot. I just had my second shot and am still experiencing the spotting! It started a lot sooner than it did the first time i got the shot. My doctor (family and my gyno) both say to just ignore the spotting. Which is okay when it is not heavy, but I went on the depo shot because a friend had suggested it to me. She said she experienced bleeding after the shot and was prescribed estrogen for it. She took it for 3 days and her periods and spotting stopped completely.
Now, my doctors will not prescribe me anything. My family doctor said he has never heard of this, and my gyno (which is the same doctor who prescribed her the estrogen) keeps saying ignore it. I went on my own with an old prescription of birth control pills and picked up a pack hoping it will work. I plan to take it today, however, if it does not work would one suggest picking up a OTC estrogen - if one exists? I'm in Canada. My friend says to try a new doctor, but I have been to many and another is just too much.
Originally my gyno was suggesting the IUD and with the horror stories I have heard I just wasn't interested which is why I went with the shot. The original BC pill had stopped working for me as spotting would occur (after 1 year or so) no matter which brand I would switch to.
I appreciate the help as I am quite concerned and just want the bleeding to stop at this point... My body now gives me no warning signs that bleeding will occur.

I got my first depo shot on January 11th 2013!
I had unprotected sex On February 1st..I'm 19 btw.
Then on February 27th I had some red spotting the next day dark brown and ever since I've been bleeding/spotting non stop red and dark brown sometimes tan...but when it's brown and its during the day and I don't need to pee at that time so when it sits there where the dik goes in (pardon me) it burns that's happened only a few times && today is May 11th 2013 and I'm still bleeding/ spotting...I'm so confused...but this depo shot is WACK. I don't recommend it to anyone!! And I was supposed to get my shot on April 4th..but hell no that did not happen.
I'm a 1st time depot user. I took my first shot October 28, the 3rd day of my cycle. My boyfriend & I had unprotected sex November 18th & he came in me a little. Its getting closer to the time I usually have my cycle & I've been seeing like brownish spotting .. But no blood. Could I be pregnant? Am I pregnant?

Haven't had a very regular cycle since I didn't have one at all for the first year then over the last 6 months I've had one for 2 months then skip 2 months. Had a cycle on September 4 & figured I would start again on October 4 but didn't. On October 10 I had a little brown spotting when I wiped. Automatically I thought something was wrong because I have never done that before except when I was pregnant. Took a HPT on October 11 it was negative. I was really hoping though in a way I could be. But now I don't whats going on & have no insurance to see the DR.

Then this spotting started on the first day of my ovulation May 29, exactly 14 days after my 1st day period may 15. from spotting it went to slight bleeding (I thought it would stop, enough to fill a panty liner). I
t is already June 10 as I'm writing this and still spotting a little though(still have those brown discharges).
I'm expecting my period tomorrow. I wish and hope its implantation or breakthrough bleeding but I am more "worried".

i had my first day of my period last august 18 then a week after i started to have dark brown spotting and dark red or like maroon light bleeding for 3 days then this September 12 i noticed a dark red that turns brown spotting on my liner and dark red light bleeding 2 days before my period is due that is September 14,on that day i think i had my period because it became heavy like my first day of period im scared whats happening to me.

Everything was fine, and they injected me with my choice of birth control, depo provera, that day. Well of course it was Valentine's day, and the physician said it was okay to have sex again. I wasn't intending on it but me and my boyfriend ended up having sex that day without a condom, and he accidently came inside of me. I feel so stupid because my physician didn't tell me how long it would take for the depo provera to take effect, and I forgot to ask because of my nervousness. My question is that if it was possible I was ovulating and that I could get pregnant again?
View 9 RepliesI took depo for about 2 years in high school, (without breaks) and it was a full year before I got a period again. It's been a total of 22 months since I stopped taking depo and now I'm trying to conceive with my fiancé. I miscarried a month ago at 14 weeks.
When I consulted my doctor she told me firmly that YES. IT IS BECAUSE OF DEPO. going on it for long periods of time can cause infertility and I was told that I will not be able to carry a pregnancy to term for anywhere from 1-5 years- if at all. I've also been told to stay if any other birth control as that can increase my chances of not being able to give birth.
Has anyone else had similar events happen to them?
I used Depo from 1999 - 2006 on my G.P's advice that it was perfectly 'safe' and had no side effects other than no periods. In September '06 after reading online risks I demanded a Bone Density Scan and to my horror Depo has caused Osteoporosis. I am 30 yrs old!! My skeleton is equal to that of a 70 yr old woman thanks to Depo. I had no period for 7 yrs, my oestrogen levels are now extremely low and indicate I've gone through early menopause, my G.P refuses to test for this at this stage. I also had 4 stone weight gain - which I have now lost with extreme dedication, mood swings, blurred vision, chronic abdominal pain, lack of lubrication , exhaustion and more.I continued with the Depo unaware it was the cause for 7 yrs. I thought it was work stress causing it all. Only on a friends advice end 2006 I Googled Depo side effects, what I found was shocking. To all you women out there on this crazy drug, look up the side effects, go to the manufactureres website - pfizer.com, GET a copy of the patient info sheet,Google it, this is no good for you. I've been off it 4 months and no period yet. Side effects still there, I have had sore nipples for 5 days now, thought I may be pregnant but not - luckily! I have terrible hot flashes in the night I wake up saturated in sweat in the groin and underarm area, I still get totally exhausted toward the end of the day and have to just lay down, at my age!! Stomach pain has ceased now and still losing weight.

This past month my husband and i decided we wanted to have a baby, so we starting having unprotected sex. View 1 RepliesI'm nearly 16 years old and I found out some pretty horrible news about 3 months ago and it's been playing on my mind.
When my mum was younger she went to her doctors for her first depo contraceptive injection, her doctor didn't give her a pregnancy test but little did they know she was pregnant on me (my mum clearly didn't know either).
2 injections down the line and my mum was having problems and her stomach was swelling the doctors said that it was a stomach ulcer (it was me aha) after a while my mum insisted on having a pregnancy test and found out she was having me.
They said it could lead me Into having fertility problems.
They have said in the future if I try before I'm 25 and I am infertile that I will get ivf and any other treatment for free but..
I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and if they have had problems with getting pregnant or of there is any advice in knowing if I am infertile like symptoms and stuff like that
I know I'm young and won't be having children yet it just worries me.
Recently am on the first shot of depo, no birth control usage before this.
Ive always had pretty normal periods, lasting 3-5 days and itll go away.
Once i got on depo, i missed my period the first month completely.
The second month(which is now) i got my period, and so far its lasted 3 weeks and in 2 days itll be 4 weeks..
I should note that I do have unprotected sex with my husband, we are not looking to have a child anytime soon.
My period this month was a normal/heavy flow for about 2 weeks. And the last week its just been spotting sort of red and brown blood mixed together. I also should mention that on the first week of having my period this month,(TMI) a HUGE and i mean HUGE about the length of your hand, piece of tissue came out...It looked almost like... a piece of fish fillet. One side was white and the other side was kinda bloody gray dark looking. It was strange I panicked and threw it out.
Ive been repulsive to smells lately especially in food. I haven't gained weight. I have this weird sensation.Almost like a "gross" feeling inside my body. My breasts arent tender. I am wondering if i am pregnant. I took a pregnancy test before my period started this month and it came as negative. Not sure if maybe stress or pregnant?
Does implantation bleeding even last a week plus?
I just recently got the Depo Provera shot last month and I got my period 1 week later than it suppose to be. It's been almost 2 weeks now and it seems not to be stopping! Is it normal? My boyfriend and I want to be intimate with each other but I keep on bleeding.
