Liver - Cyst With Indeterminate Mass
Nov 3, 2015
I had an MRI of abdomen and incidental finding of a simple cyst in the liver and an indeterminate mass in the liver which was recommended to have ultrasound or CT scanning.
As I panicked I went straight to dr and asked for US. The radiologist who did it looked at the original MRI scan and said it was not a good picture. He then did the US and said he could see the cyst but not the " indeterminate mass" and believed it was an artefact shadow. Blood tests were normal. So worried...please help!
I am still worrying and thinking I should get it rechecked? Don't know whether MR was so bad it was movement artefact or should I believe the ultra sound. And since the weekend I have a dull ache near my ribs on my right side and I am thinking pain in the liver. Any advice?

Hi can anyone help please . I went 9 days ago for a ultrasound after suffering pelvic pain. Went to see gp 5 days later. Was told had a large cystic mass in womb. Was told I would be referred as a potential cancer. Following day received a letter for gynaecologist. Bloods were taken for tumour markers in my body. Am seeing a gynaecologist in 5 days. Is this normal procedure for women with a large cyst as it's all happening so fast. am I right to be worrying myself stupid that I've got cancer. My cyst is 12cm x 12cm x 8.5cm. I'm soo worried. I'm 37 years old.

I recently got a quick checkup test report for applying for a job, everything was fine except for the hiv which came out as "hiv ab/ag raised value and hiv WB indeterminate" no other details mentioned and they then took another sample and I was asked to wait for a week for the final result.
This report along with the noticeable concern of the specialist planted an unbearable anxiousness in me such that i can't eat nor sleep nor anything.
I'm a virgin guy and i had never done blood transfusion, I can't recall any exposure to hiv, haven't been to a dentist either. This drives me crazy,
More than two months ago, i suffered sudden weight loss but i came over it and i eat pretty normally now but still didn't gain my previous weight back. Everybody noticing this weight loss.
I sleep a lot. No fever or maybe had one that lasted very short.
My brother 3 years ago also suffered this loss of weight and lack of appetite but didn't bother to test this Indeterminate only turns negative for pregnant women and this fact also drives me crazy. The specialist scared the hell out of me who said symptoms aren't necessarily to appear. Where i could've picked it up? I'm not even a drug user, I don't drink either, my friends are all good whose tests came back negative at the same time as we all applied for the same job after graduation from high school.
I'm really not ready for this especially when my risk is almost nonexistent and i live where hiv is very unlikely. But still why would the first test react to the virus and western blot is confused?
My mom is also very anxious about it. I feel like I'll die before the last results come out.
Anybody experienced this? How could i have got infected if i have no sex at all.

My mother is a 65 year old female, 136 lbs, and on peritoneal dialysis for 3 years due to End Stage Renal Disease. Last week, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain that was a burning/gnawing pain. She went to the hospital and a CT Abdomen was taken without contrast. All was normal.
Over the next four (4) days, the pain persisted, particularly during dialysis exchanges at home. She returned to the hospital who admitted her. Another CT Abdomen was taken at this time which showed "nodular contour on the liver", free air in transverse colon which appeared to be dilated. She was also constipated for several days during this period. The CT impression suggested clinical evaluation for chronic liver disease.
A standard liver panel was taken and all results were normal. Nothing even close to elevated. She has never had a history of any liver issues and never had anything show on a CT for liver. After a day in the hospital, all stomach pain disappeared, she was able to use the restroom, and all stool samples/GI tests were normal without blood. She is naturally anemic due to ESRD with low iron/protein. Her last ANA/autoimmune panel was in December, all clear. No history of any hepatitis.
An Ultrasound Right Upper Quadrant was performed and the impression was no biliary obstruction, moderate ascites (tends to be normal due to peritoneal dialysis fluid), and "heterogeneous liver." The impression suggested referral for cirrhosis evaluation.
She began taking Hydralazine (25mg/3 times daily) in the last 3-4 months. She also takes a host of other blood pressure medicines.
QUESTION: She is currently awaiting a kidney transplant and very worried about this. A blood test will be taken in a couple weeks by a specialist that is supposed to diagnose Cirrhosis. Given this presentation alone, what other causes could explain this imaging results? Should we fear the worst?

I had an abdominal ultrasound done for some abdominal pain and it was noted in the report as an impression that I had an echogenic appearing liver (such as non alcoholic fatty liver). My doctor at that time didn't tell me and just said my report was normal. When I went in for my Colonoscopy that was unrelated, it was mentioned again and when I did some research I realized what fatty liver actually was. I switched doctors.
My new doctor is considering giving me a CT scan but is checking with the GI department to see if they think its needed, etc. etc. But that there is no treatment for it besides diet modification.
Here's the thing. I don't have any of the risk factors. I am not overweight. I'm actually underweight slightly (BMI is 18, I weigh 110 lbs). I don't drink any alcohol, never did. And I don't have diabetes or hepatitis. The only thing I could do and what I have been doing is change my diet. I stopped eating processed foods, watched my sugar/carbs, and eat more vegetables than I ever have.
I'm a very anxious person and I'm not sure I want to know what the scan says. If it's worse than what I thought, I'm going to be so upset and stressed out. And I can't treat it anyway. It's not like they can give me a medication and make it go away. I think knowing the extent of it will just cause me mental anguish and I'm already stressed out about it as is.

My Cholesterol was 7.8 and I was put on Statins 3 years ago. Because they gave me pains in my legs and other areas I stopped them.
A year ago my Cholesterol was still high and I had changed doctors and was prescribed Atorvastatin 10 mg after 2 months my doctor sent me for blood tests and in a phone call when I was at work he told me that Atorvastatin had caused Liver damage. He said I should stop taking the tablets immediately, pity this advice was not put on my notes so that when I phoned for my blood results a week earlier the receptionist could inform me to stop Atorvastatin. She just said Doctor will be in touch via phone call next week
He referred me to a Liver Specialist.
I went to see Liver Specialist after having Liver Ultrasound. Fatty liver was diagnosed and Liver Specialist promptly put me back on Atorvastatin claiming this would help my fatty liver. I couldn't believe it but what could I do?
Local GP had advised me to have bloods done again after being on tablets for 2 months. When my results came back the Locum doctor I saw said "whoa your Liver is not happy" STOP the tablets and have a blood test in 2 weeks.
2 weeks later Liver levels are coming down so thats a good direction. Dilemma is I have to see my Liver Consultant 16 June 2015. Wish me luck!

this isn't about me but is about my girlfriend who is about to have gastric sleeve surgery.
She is a 40 year old women that has had a full hysterectomy and has type 2 diabetes. she has had a history of thyroid and weight issues. she is 5,7 weighs 225 LBS. she has an enlarged fatty liver of 27cm and the Doctor said that she needs "emergent" gastric sleeve surgery to bring down her enlarged liver. this was claimed on this past thursday. I have been looking high and low for documentation and statistics on using the surgery for reducing fatty livers but can't find any information. Does this sound right? has there been a history of using this procedure for such cases, I'm worried and scared for her.

Been feeling lightheaded and brain foggy and a bit sick recently with some stomach grumbling and pain. Went to the doctors who did repeat blood tests over the course of 8 weeks and have said my enzymes are slightly up which could be the result of mild fatty liver. My question is does this sound related? He's also just tested me for celiac, but told me in the beginning that I could be fighting a virus. I'm worried that the 3 diagnoses he's given are so different I don't know what to believe, also does this mean I should be less worried about the tests because they are low enough to be anything?

I've recently had 2 LFT that both showed raised enzymes, I've had a scan and it shows I have gallstones, however I am currently undergoing investigation into whether I have Reactive Hypoglycaemia, my question is that if I do have RH, would this cause my liver enzymes to elevate?

IiIt was picked up by chance thaI have fatty liver, could have had this for years without knowing about it, how do I find out how much damage has been done already if any? My GP does not seem too concerned about it, all my LFT have come back normal so what can I do about it apart from lifestyle change which I'm doing already?

I had a simple 13cm cyst removed from my broad ligament (next to ovary) at the end of June. It had been causing me issues for at least 6 months, including sharp pains, which I thought were linked to the digestive system at first. I had a laparoscopy and feel much better in myself.
The week before surgery, I began to noticeably lose hair from my head. It's now been coming out for nearly 8 weeks. Luckily I had a lot of hair to start with but I've now had to have it cut shorter as looked awful and I must have lost half my hair or more. :o( I've had blood tests and everything seems fine, so Dr thinks it must have been the stress that the cyst was putting on my body, esp with sharp pains etc. I have found this link to PCOS but not large cysts and wondered if anyone else had suffered in the same way and if so, how long the hair loss continued?

Last week I found a lump in the scrotum, a trip to the ultrasound department came back with a "extratesticular mass 1cm x 1,2cm x 1.2cm, likely to arise from the tail of the epididymis" "The lesion shows slight peripheral vascularity on color doppler" testis and everything else was normal
So I was then referred to a urologist, who said it was best to have it removed and analyzed. So I had it removed yesterday and saw the urologist again today. He told me that he had sent it off to be tested, but felt confident it was a Spermatocele, he even listed it on the discharge sheet as the final diagnosis as a Spermatocele.
But when I read up on Spermatocele, it says it's a fluid filled cyst, so surely it would not have shown as a solid mass on the ultrasound? So I was wondering if it was possible for a Spermatocele to appear as a solid mass on an ultrasound. I will get the results next week either way, but would interested to know if it's likely to be what he said?

Just was told via ultrasound that I had a fairly large solid mass by my right ovary. I was told endometrioma but that I would need to get it removed. CA 125 came in at only 9 so I feel better by that. I am 46 premenopausal so not sure the accuracy of the CA125 results. Are all endometriomas benign? I have not had endometriosis so not sure why this happened? I had seen doctors in past YEAR for digestive and colon issues that came in clear and I take Tylenol a lot for leg and back aches. I also saw a dermatologist for hair growth and acne. Were any of these side effects for endometriomas? Ovarian cancer? For any of you ladies?

Lump on scrotal wall left side about as big as a pecan still in it's shell. It's fixed and does not move with testes. It has discharged a yellow waxy type pus but very little and is painful. Any ideas? Just a cyst?

47 with what looks like a solid mass on my right ovary. Have been seen by a reputable gynecologist who doesn't think it is cancer. 2.9 cm. Took a the CA 125 test all normal. At first he thought it was a hemorrhagic cyst but, it has not changed size and has been there for close to 3 months.
No septations, no blood flow. He think it could be a fibroma but, not sure.
Going for an MRI. Worried. No history of any cancer on any side of my family. None of any kind.
Have been going through menopause for a few years. Periods are changing and some heavier than others. Been skipping off an on for a few years.
Cyst, mass is ovoid in shape.
Any ideas? So worried. But hopeful it is nothing. Hoping to avoid surgery.

I went to the dr for a BV infection and 15 days of light bleeding and heavy discharge. I was sent in for an ultrasound and the discovery was:
Thickening of the endometrium with irregular margins measuring at 23 mm at its thickest. also in my right ovary they found a complex solid appearing area measuring 22x17x17mm which they said could reflect a hemmorrhagic cyst though an endometrioma should not be ruled out. I have to wait until March 2nd to see the specialist on this and I must say I am beyond freaking out out on this... any advice

Last december I noticed a hard, fixed mass in the left side of my neck. After a few visits to my PCM and ENT they attempted to do an ultrasound guided biopsy. The doctor doing it said that he hit what appeared to be a 'bony mass', and could not get sufficient tissue for a biopsy. I was then sent for a CT scan as it appeared that is was slowly growing in size. It appeared to be Exostosis from the proximal end of the left first rib that projects superiorly and slightly anteriorly. I was told that it shouldn't be anything of concern, and I was sent away. Recently I have had issues with pain the the left side of my neck, and I wake at night with numbness in my left arm and hand. It feels as if it has continued to grow in size, and I'm wondering if this is a common issue with Exostosis, or could this in fact be (unlikely I'm sure) a case of Osteosarcoma?
