Lisinopril Alternatives? Amlodipine, Candesartan Or Losartan?
Sep 8, 2015
I've been on BP meds for approx 6 months, and currently take Lisinopril 2.5 mg. It's working well and keeping my BP down. However, I'm fed up with the resultant dry cough. The cough isn't continuous, but annoying and disturbs my sleep. Other side effects are tinnitus, and occasionally a 'woolly' head and odd dreams.
I'm considering asking my GP to change to a different medication (not Amlodipine - tried that first).
I'd be interested to know other people's experience of Candesartan and Losartan. I've read that these drugs have fewer, but different side effects. But, also read that the two drugs are less effective.

I have been prescribed this drug and am due to take my first 2.5 mg on sunday evening. Now, after reading all this I am seriously doubting whether I will take it. Surely there must be a natural way to reduce BP..... has anybody tried Resperate?

I was started on Lisinopril and had a terrible cough so doc switched me to 25mg Losartan. I have been taking it since January 11th. the drug works well as far as no side effects but it seems like BP is higher than when I was on Lisinopril and my numbers are all over the board.

my doctor put me on lisinopril and ever since i have had a dry cough. i thought it was due to post nasal drip but now that i read the side effects i have my doubts. i was wondering if it would be wise to try losartan.

I've been on Ramipril (10mg) for about 10 months now and a couple of my BP checks were 140/90 which I thought was quite a good reading for my age (64) and better than the 170/90 that it was in the beginning.
I've just recently had a real bad cold that has lasted nearly 4 weeks so been dosing myself up on Lemsip Max. Only just found out that it's not advised for people on BP medication or with high BP so stopped taking it.
Finally went to doc for Antibiotics for Sinus headache and on doing a routine BP she said it was 160/90 and just wrote out a prescription for Amlodipine to be taken with the Ramipril. No discussion, no re-test. I thought that was a bit hasty. The GP who started me on the Ramipril took a lot more time to decide what would be best for me and to explain about it.
Took my first Amlodipine 2 days ago early evening and not long after felt really nauseous and sleepy. Couldn't bring myself to take the Ramipril as well so thought missing a night wouldn't hurt. Woke up in the morning feeling dizzy and disorientated. Felt "muzzy" headed all day. Took another one yesterday evening but still didn't add the Ramipril because I don't feel right. Have a tight feeling in my chest, nausea and anxiety.
After reading all this about Amlodipine I think I'm going to give them a miss and just continue with the Ramipril.

I started taking Norvasc (amlodipine) six months ago because my blood pressure was too high. I didn’t really have any visible problems that I could thought of were caused by high blood pressure, but it remained high even after I started watching my sodium intake and following the DASH diet. Since I’m 52 my doctor wanted to be on the safe side and prescribed me Norvasc.
Ever since I started taking this medication I’ve started having problems and now it seems as though I’m going through erectile dysfunction because of it. I haven’t been able to maintain an erection in over a month, but my doctor doesn’t really seem to be worried about that, telling me I still need to lower my blood pressure.

The medication is working fine but I notice that in the evenings, I don't feel my heart beat as often as when I wasn't on the medication, like an empty feeling at times in the evenings. Is this normal?

Does anyone know whether there is anything in the literature that definitely shows amlodipine to be a definite cause of atrial fibrillation in some people? The list of side effects mentions heart arrhythmias/palpitations but I am looking for some evidence of a definite link with atrial fibrillation.

my Dr has prescribed me the GD-amlodipine atorvastatin Medicine and I have been taking this for more than a year now but I have noticed that whenever I skip it or wait for the refills, I have cough developed.
Now I don't have any medical history. He just prescribed me to prevent any future incidents looking at my family history.
I am not kind of a guy to depend on medicines on a daily basis but the DR suggests I will have to take this for the rest of my life.

I have been prescribed Amlodipine 5mg and more recently 10mg . I have what I consider borderline high blood pressure and possible 'white coat syndrome' as its always higher in the presence of Gp. I am suffering with swollen ankles and legs as a result of the higher dose. As I lead a fairly active life and have a healthy diet the Gp has concluded that I must have a genetically high BP ? How can this be assumed ? I have been told that whatever I do .exercise, diet , etc it will never reduce my blood pressure . Has anyone ever been advised the same?

I have been taking 10 mgs of amlodipine for approx 6 months I have recently stopped due to the following side effects muscular weakness and aching limbs and weight gain I have switched to Hawthorn berry capsules to lower my blood pressure which are available at the herbalist with no known side effects I will record my progress in a couple of months but I am convinced that the doctors of today all too readily prescribe potentially harmful drugs and quite frankly they are more interested in there big cars and enormous salaries than in the health of their patients

I have had to start taking Citalopram again after being off it for 6 months. I am taking around 2 to 3 5mg diazepam a week for anxiety while waiting for it to kick in.
I have been taking Citalopram for 18 days. Are there any natural or less addictive meds I can take instead of diazepam? Read some where people say there are alternatives but not sure what they are.

I have been suffering from chronic pain since 2008 after I had my daughter, which triggered a downward spiral of health and pain. I currently have a laundry list of problems from rheumatoid arthritis, nerve damage in both hands, spinal stenosis, bulging disc, spondylosis from L1-L5 and both of my knee cartilage is "going out". My GP had tried me on any and all NSAIDS and that left me most of the time in the hospital for uncontrollable vomiting and severe abdominal pains. Steroids left me feeling like my head was spinning out of control. Finally my GP put me on hydrocodone 10/500, which at the time took the edge off the pain to where I could function and take care of my disabled daughter and family. After a while the pain started to get to out of control and the lortab was not cutting it so my orthopedic surgeon put me on oxycodone 20mg and somas 325 mg, 4x daily. WOW....I was able, to get myself out of bed and take care of my daughter, clean my house (a little at a time), cook, actually go grocery shopping and enjoy getting out all without my husband or family member helping or doing it for me. I have not been able to feel like a normal person in a long time and it felt better than the person I had became because of the chronic pain. So after 3 months of oxycodone, I go into my regular appointment and see signs everywhere stating (among with a couple other prescriptions) my doctor could no longer prescribe oxycodone. A few patients did not test positive for their meds and were caught selling them. So I was put on percocet 10/325, even though it's still oxycodone with acetaminophen I feel like I am back to taking hydrocodone 10 mg again, back to barely being able to handle the daily things I need to do. So after my long spell I have an appointment coming up in a week and was wanting to know if anyone has any knowledge or experience with something that is equal to oxycodone or something better? There has to be something else that can get a handle on my pain and if my OS can't prescribe oxycodone for me then I need to know what else is out there.

Long story short- I wake up after two hours of sleep and CANNOT get back; the feeling is awful and I'm like a zombie all day, not really alive, if you know what I mean.
About three years ago my doctor gave me Xanax, 2mg. They made me sleep through the night. Those pills saved my life. A friend of mine uses them as well, for over ten years for sleep.
At first I was scared to take more than one every few days. When I told my doctor he asked why I didn't just take them every night? I was afraid of becoming an addict. He said, "You gotta sleep, just take them whenever you need." So I take them every night. Life is great, they're only $4.00 a month from express Scripts.
Now they stopped working. Just like that. I'm told that happens, you build up an immunity or whatever. I have a program I set up myself to wean myself off of them- taking a .25 piece off every four weeks.
My doctor gave me something called Trazodone (50mg), that I'm supposed to take along with the Xanax until I'm completely free. It's uncomfortable as hell, but nothing like 'monkey's crawling on my back' or anything.
OK- to the question: What alternatives are there to Xanax? This Trazodone is NOT doing anything.
Is there anything that anyone's tried that I can take to sleep without it killing me by taking it with Xanax?
If I wean myself off of Xanax can the process be started over with Xanax, and maybe last another three years? I'm in complete zombie mode coming off Xanax from lack of sleep.
