Hip Replacement :: Uneven Leg Length On 2nd THR
Jan 24, 2016
I'm wondering if some of you have experience with this. I had my second hip done on Wed. Jan 20, about 7 weeks after the first one. When I walked following surgery, it felt like my right foot was going into a hole with each step-- That there was a significant difference in leg length. Everything else went fine although my dressing is larger than the first time. Surgeon wasn't at all defensive when I saw him the next morning. He listened to my concerns, said he thought legs were good and told me to give it 6 weeks for swelling to go down and that it usually resolves.(No mention of why there was so much more swelling this time.) I came home Thursday afternoon and am keeping ice on it and doing exercises. It maybe has changed a little bit but whole hip feels so lumpy and bumpy and it's as if I can feel the new joint inside which I never did before.
I like and trust my Dr. and intellectually I knew it might be different this go round but it is disconcerting nonetheless and makes me fearful and blue. I have no stomach for additional surgery. So, I know it's premature but I am seeking reassurance if anyone has lived with this.

Day five almost on the books...I have done all my exercises and walked several times...even outside. my question for those of you with THR experience... when walking, did you feel a bit uneven? Is this normal? Is it from swelling?

A month ago I had a circumcision op done but since then it seems I have lost the length of my penis and can't get an erection of late. Has anyone gone through this or has solution to my problem.

I am in my late 50's, have full sexual drive, a willing partner. In my late 40's I developed the classic Peyronie's curve, the doc said we can operate to fix this, there will just be a little loss of length. Well, there was a lot of loss of length (1.5" and what's worse is the condition has returned worse than ever making intercourse almost impossible. This is very depressing, especially as I didn't have pain, was the op worth it?

I am a young person and this has been bothering me for 2 years now. My right breast is a C cup whereas my left is an A cup. My mother is aware of this but has given me no advice. I really just want a way to make them look even until they naturally even out themselves.

I have a forteen days old baby. I am breastfeeding him. I have always had big breasts. During pregnancy it was 32 G. Now suddenly i feel one breast has become softer and smaller! The other one has become bigger and engorged. And uneven breasts are noticeable. How do i even it out? And after breastfeeding will my breasts go back to its original size? I don't want a perky or tight breasts. Small but sagged one will do. Tired of having heavy breasts and with uneven breasts my back is aching and my posture is gone so bad. Neck Pain is too much. Sorry for the ramble but this is affecting my confidence.

I am 18 years old and i have a right side that is bigger than my left: my quads, lats, arm, and knee caps. I asked the doctor and he said it was puberty and it would just even out and i think he just said that because he did not say. I have been doing the isolation exercises that people say you are supposed to do and they are not working. Will it all even out when i am older or not?

Does anyone know why this could be. I've only recently started retracting my foreskin (I'm 18)- and have noticed my meatus is swollen at the bottom, especially on the left side. It is so swollen that it sticks out. I can't retract my foreskin back far - I think this is because I have a very short frenulum (aka banjo string)- so I was wondering if the aggravation is because my frenulum is pulling the meatus. My meatus doesn't sting or burn although it is very sensitive.
Btw-it's definitely not an std & my penis doesn't have a lot of discharge or strong foul smell.

I have felt uneven for years. My mom has been diagnosed with scoliosis, and my doctors have checked me at every yearly appointment since I was 12. I feel uneven (like if you were to draw a line down the middle it wouldn't be equal), one shoulder (right) is higher than the other, I have neck/shoulder pain, and I feel like my right side of my ribs press are farther away from the midline, like my left side is pushing them over. I feel The only thing is that I am overweight. So I am wondering if it possible for the doctors to have missed it. I am 19 and I am afraid I am going to continue on without answers or being taken seriously. My parents and friends don't believe me. Is it possible I can feel scoliosis from the inside (the uneven feeling I have)?

I have wrinkle like raised marks from where the scars have been from LS leading to the texture of the skin being very much damaged.
My itching is very much under control and has been for a few months now which I am happy about.

Is it weird that I have uneven labia? My left one is longer than my right. I am suppose to have like, just a slit but a piece of the labia hangs out and it looks weird. I am so nervous. I'm still a virgin but I don't know what my sex partner will think of it in the future.

i'm having this issue since junior high that i have uneven shoulders that cause massive confidence breakdown with me, all shirts look weird on me and im definitely feels shy to open my shirt in a pool. starting now i intend to bulk more muscle to achieve a better posture and fix these issue for having even shoulders and muscles for the long run. do you guys have an advice or any members here that have this same issue so i can have someone to relate to? I'm freakishly scared by the prospect of disease that i might have by surfing the net, Poland's Syndrome and Winged Scapula are some of my assumption. But i am already verified by my chiropractor that i have mild scoliosis about 18 degrees.

I was researching the topic of lower back pain post THR. It concluded that the Hip made the back hurt or the back was making the Hip hurt. >>>?????
They haven't figured that out. Then, they added "of course the hip bone is connected to the back bone and the leg bone is attached to the knee bone"
In this document, they go step by step through the anterior approach, and these 2 images showed up. While your leg is unhinged or whatever they push it back under the good leg to get in the incision better... Then, what's up with the slanting? It is a way to "facilitate the femur" something or adjusts the length.... So... Seriously, I'm laying there with my legs wide open?

I have been reading your posts on your walking progress and am amazed at how much some of you are able to do. I am almost 5 weeks post op and walk every day on my crutches, but it is just up and down the road a few times going a bit further every day. Compared to some of you I don't think I am nearly doing enough walking, my fitness level was bad before the operation due to not being able to weight bear and walk so that may be why my progress seems slower.
I was given the physio exercises, which I do every day, but was given no indication of how far I should be walking or if I should go on when I get pain. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this.

A week before my op and post op I have given up alcohol. We usually share a bottle of wine at the weekend but with the meds I don't think I can. Is this the same for you?. Only three weeks to go, just in time for my wife's birthday.

I had a right hip replacement 3 weeks ago and my surgeon gave me very little guidance on what was and wasn't okay. He told me not to do any "leg lifts". I was told that I didn't have to worry about the 90 degree rule (and yet, I do). I have a physical therapist who comes to my home twice a week but all he has told me is "don't pivot" on that leg. After 3 weeks, I'm not experiencing much pain (and when I do it's in odd places, like my knee or my foot). I am now able to sleep on my "good" side using an abduction pillow.
Yesterday, I saw a physician's assistant (not my surgeon) for a post-op visit and I pressed him as to what activities were okay and not okay. He only told me "don't do it if it hurts". That advice is singularly unhelpful. I am comfortable turning my foot in and out but is it okay? I'm comfortable bending over but is it okay? I have no trouble lifting my leg onto the bed but should I continue lifting it with my hands? The information I've found on the internet covers the first couple of weeks after surgery then there seems to be nothing between that and 6 months later when you can "resume normal activities." I'm frustrated and perplexed without any guidance. I'm worried that I could injure myself and have to have corrective surgery - and I'd rather be shot than have to go through that again and have to go back into the hospital!
