Hip Replacement :: Turned Onto Side In Bed
Feb 6, 2016
I am just over 4 weeks PO and desperate to stop sleeping on my back. This morning I really felt like I could move onto my (non operated) side, so I did and it felt great! The ache from my lower back was still there but it felt so good to be in a more natural position for me. I folded over a pillow and wedged it between my knees and calves. I only stayed in this position for about 5 mins or so as I am conscious of my post op advice of waiting until the 6 week marker had passed. Nice to know that the temporary option is there for when my back ache gets too much, though.

I keep seeing instructions to use a cane on the opposite side from the knee that has been replaced. Just wondering why. I have been using my cane in my right hand for years, and my right knee is the wobbly one. Now it looks like I will have to retrain myself to use the cane in the left hand after my surgery?

It has been nearly ten months now since my first TKR, and the left side of my calf remains NUMB. I am not experiencing this on my right leg on which I had my TKR about five months ago.
Will the numbness always be there?
Why such a difference between legs/numbness?
I have no difficulty MOVING either leg/knee, but the NUMB feeling just feels so weird!

I would like to know if anyone else (and I know there are many) who have floaters that turned into PVD. Mine started on Oct.2011 with small black dots in left eye. From there it got worse and having to see a Ophthalmologist for the first time and her sending me off to see a Glaucoma specialist with out giving me any information scared. The glaucoma specialist said everything looks fine come back in 2-3 yrs. Well I was hoping all would get better with the floater situation, but it gradually got worse. When I look back I realize the floaters weren't so bad, but it was not being educated in what they were didn't help and only led me to becoming very anxious and eventually depressed. It has been 3 years now, the floaters got worse and affected my right eye too. My left eye had crystal worm like floater that would get right in the center of my eye. All in all I went through a year of this. Went to a neuro-opthamologist and a retinal specialist. I finally had a vitrectomy in my left eye and 3 months later had to have cataract surgery. (Prior to this, I would see afterimages, which caused more anxiety. Became light sensitive.) The cataract surgery had some after-affects. I became more far-sighted which has caused a diopter difference between the two eyes and the cataract eye also has dysphotopsia, where I see the edge of the IOL. Again on top of all this I am very sensitive to light, see spots if something is glaring off an object.

As much as I hate to admit it, my GERD has created an unbearable amount of anxiety. I thought going off PPIs was the right way to go and supplements helping, but my stomach issues only got worse.
I read about the link between the stomach and heart through the vagus nerve, but didn't think much of it. Last week, almost daily, stomach burning would cause my heart to beat faster which would send me in a panic. One evening, I got so scared I checked my BP which was 161/126. I promptly went to the ER. It was found to be two things, a panic attack and a faulty reading. My BP was high but my monitor was off a bit.
I am now back on Prevacid for my stomach, and Celexa for anxiety with xanax as a backup for immediate response until the Celexa kicks in.
I wanted to post this because I find a lot of people, myself included, fight a lot of our symptoms out of fear of what medication may possibly do to us, when in fact they may be exactly what we need to heal. Personally, my fear of PPI's made me give up way too soon, which created additional issues. I think its important for people to research and learn as much as possible about whats happening to their bodies, but its equally important to work closely with their physicians in finding a solution before self medicating or quitting a med out of fear.

I'm a 13 yr. girl and for no reason at all I will start to feel extremly aroused I can't even pay attention in class because while I'm paying attention to the Teacher I'll suddenly wonder what color bra she's wearing or what it would feel like to be with her, my friend had a strapless dress on the other day and I was mentally cursing myself out for not getting a picture. It's like for no reason at all, just watch t.v when one of my friends pops into my mind. Ive tried masterbating though I can never make myself cum. And besides that there no place the bathrooms don't have locks and I share a room with my 17yr old brother 11yr. old sister and my dog. Me and my sister and dog all share a bed plus My cousin and his dog like to come into my room. So what should I do? I cant even look my teacher and some of my friends in the face anymore.

I recently had balanitis caused by a fungal infection. The doctor reckons it came on because I'd been on a strong course of antibiotics for something unrelated which had weakened my immune system a few weeks earlier... I was prescribed an antifungal and steroid cream to apply twice a day and told to continue applying it for a few days after the symptoms had gone away.
Now that I appear to be balanitis free I've been left with a tight foreskin. It only started to become a problem a few days into treatment and made it hard to apply the cream underneath the foreskin and to the glands.
Before I had balanitis my foreskin was completely normal functioning.
I can still retract it over the glans now but with some difficulty. It is effecting my ability to achieve a full erection.
Is this something that will go away gradually by itself? Or do I require further treatment?

I'm 16 and this is like the 6th day of my chickenpox. Almost all my blisters have turned into hard crusts over my face. And today while I was slightly touching one of the crusts and it came off.
So I just wanted to know will it turn to a life long scar?

I have developed a lump on the left labia, I shave so occasionally develop ingrown hair bumps which is what I thought this one was but it's turned purple like a bruise or burst blood vessel and it doesn't feel hard like a pimple but soft like a blister (although it does not look like a blister).

I had unprotected sex with my Ex GF years ago. Well she happen to have a yeast infection.
Well as you know i got a male yeast infection. My symptoms were typical.I had itching, pain, redness, and hurt to pee. Well I was given one pill, a powder, a cream and sent on my way.
Well I had a rash at the tip of the penis. I still cannot get rid of the rash. I have tried TONS of different creams with no luck. Some actually cause more inflammation.
Well i have tried many home remedies with no luck as well.
My next plan is to go to a Dermatologist.
Just on a side note. At the time i was not circumcised. Then i went to a Urologist who suggested to get cut. So i did. But the rash did not go away.
From the research i have done I'm sure it is Balanitis.

My mom has a lump in her sides, i couldn't quite understand if it is considered as a breast (because it is in the side and not literally on the breast) or armpit (because it is already below the armpit) lump. It started to be small but then grew bigger after a while it also became painful and suddenly looked like a bruise, she also felt a little numbness in her arm, after some time putting organic medicine it turned smaller and painless but right now it is not yet gone. 1st question: is it to be identified as a breast or armpit lump? 2nd question: what might be the diagnosis for both cases (or what is the difference of diagnosis if it is identified under armpit lump or if it is identified under breast lump)? i really couldn't find any reference to a lump that is painful then turned painless

I had metal plates put in my wrist about 3 weeks ago and am in a removable cast. I have unbearable pain at one spot on the side of my wrist under my thumb. It's real painful when I take my cast off and even with the cast I'm only comfortable holding my hand pointing up. Gravity seems to hurt my hand and can't even put my arm in a splint because it hurts. 2 questions:
Had anyone experience this to give advice on what you did to get comfortable and how long this pain lasted?
Any advice on the best position to sleep? All positions I've tried put pressure on that side of my wrist. I tried finding a position where my thumb is pointing up, but haven't found a good position that doesn't lock my shoulder. I haven't slept in 2 weeks and really need some sleep.

I was researching the topic of lower back pain post THR. It concluded that the Hip made the back hurt or the back was making the Hip hurt. >>>?????
They haven't figured that out. Then, they added "of course the hip bone is connected to the back bone and the leg bone is attached to the knee bone"
In this document, they go step by step through the anterior approach, and these 2 images showed up. While your leg is unhinged or whatever they push it back under the good leg to get in the incision better... Then, what's up with the slanting? It is a way to "facilitate the femur" something or adjusts the length.... So... Seriously, I'm laying there with my legs wide open?

I have been reading your posts on your walking progress and am amazed at how much some of you are able to do. I am almost 5 weeks post op and walk every day on my crutches, but it is just up and down the road a few times going a bit further every day. Compared to some of you I don't think I am nearly doing enough walking, my fitness level was bad before the operation due to not being able to weight bear and walk so that may be why my progress seems slower.
I was given the physio exercises, which I do every day, but was given no indication of how far I should be walking or if I should go on when I get pain. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this.

A week before my op and post op I have given up alcohol. We usually share a bottle of wine at the weekend but with the meds I don't think I can. Is this the same for you?. Only three weeks to go, just in time for my wife's birthday.
