High Uric Acid With One Kidney
Mar 24, 2015
My mother has only 1 kidney - she had a kidney removed in 1983. Lately she did a blood test and her uric acid (serum) was found to be high.
We are worried that her kidney might be failing. Can we have your insight please?

I am a 32 year old man and i had my first gout attack 5 months ago (right knee), my gp put me on allopurinol 300 mg daily . the medication brought my uric acid levels down to around 5 and my gp says this is the target , it took several weeks for the first attack to clear and left me in pain when i walk for months . my uric acid levels are still 5 ish and i have been getting really bad flares in my right foot quite regular 3 times in 4 weeks now , is it meant to be possible to have attacks when on medication . i feel like a oap with this , i don't drink alcohol anymore (since first attack) and eat a low purine diet , if anyone has any advise on this it would be good.

Has anyone been successful using natural remedies such as lemon juice and apple cider vinegar in lowering urine calcium and uric acid levels? After several episodes of gross hematuria it was determined that I have bilateral stones. A 24 hr urine test showed elevated calcium and uric acid. I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?

I have been taking Zyloric 100 for the past couple of years, Uric Acid level was 7.5 prior taking medicine, but during taking medicine it was 4.5, my question, should I continue taking Zyloric, though I never suffered from severe illness, like toe inflammation.

I am 27 yr. male and I had a Kidney stone in May-2015, I got treatment by an urologist who supplied me medication so that the stone could pass out thru ureter but when X-ray and IVP done after 2 months medication the position of stone was above 20-25mm of bladder and it got stuck there due to its large size. Doctor then advised me to remove it thru ureteroscopy. But my parents were little bit worried about surgery. So we contacted one homeopathic doctor who gave me some homeopathic tablets and also advice to take juice of one herb root. I had done that also but still it pains during urine. So pls. advice me some perfect solution on that. Stone is of 7mm in size (uric acid stone) and its already 6 months has been passed while I am treating on that.

just got my reports and Uric acid level is 9.5 mg/dL.
Have appointment with doc next week. Is this high enough to cause horrible joint pains which i am experiencing for over a year now.
Probably these levels affect each of us differently but just hoping to get some pointers.

I had some blood tests and my uric acid level was high at 10.4.
After just under 3 weeks of not drinking alcohol and cutting down on the high purine food, this reduced to 8.9
Does anybody know how long diet changes take to affect levels?

I have had gout since I was 48 years old and now at age 53 the flare-ups are more frequent from every 4-6 months to every other month. my diet is eat whatever I want and beer, changing my diet has been in progress for that last couple of years anyways. stopped drinking colas and diet sodas (lost weight and do not miss it) eating a lot less red meat is a good thing eliminating beer is a tough one. In the early years of gout I started with Indomethacin, piroxicam, colcrys and a couple others that I forgot the name, these meds worked fine in the beginning then their effectiveness has reduced to "not much help" I have lately had great luck with a 60mg injection of Toradol. my GP wants me to start taking a daily 300mg of Allopurinol (which I have long term doubts of) I am 5"7" 185 lbs and mountain bike 2-3 days a week for 20 years.
My question is: what has caused my kidneys to stop filtering out the Uric acid? or is changing of the diet helping the kidneys be more effective? a friend wants me to talk with an acupuncture doc, I do not have renal failure or history of diabetes.

I am 26 years old, it's been more than 4 months I am suffering from pain in both of my foot, ankles and left wrist, I took all the test and found Uric acid was too high in my blood, doc prescribed me fuboxstate tablet and within 2 weeks it came down to 2.2, it's been more than 3 weeks since I lowered my Uric acid, but still pain is not going away and both if my foot and left wrist have swollen and stiff, I drink 2 ltr of water, have lowered my food intake, specially meat, chickens, alcohol and dairy products,
Just to add, in the first week of Jan2016 I met with an accident, had stitches on my right knee, that took approx 2 months to cure, but that time there were no pain in my foot, pain started in my foot when I got a new shoe in feb 2016, I thought it might go away with time as this was just bcoz of new shoe, also I started taking protein x powder without any exercise, I know it was a big mistake I made.
My question is,
1- Based on my above comments is there anything else causing pain as my uric acid is down?
2- is it possible any of my nerves misplaced due to the accident or new shoe and causing pain and swelling?

Had two tests done, one was a full body check which detected high cholesterol in the blood and rbc count of 22 in urine where 13 was the borderline and nothing else. For the follow up urine test a month later there was protein detected but rbc was down to 13. Now what's getting me worried is that the doc said there might be a kidney or other organ problem and that i'd need to see a specialist. Unfortunately I won't get to see this specialist for another month and im getting worried with what the problem might be and if waiting another month might make it worse. As far as symptoms go, I feel fine, or at least i'm not in any pain, previously or now.

I have never had any issues with my kidneys other than a few kidney stones,,and pretty frequent uti's..like bladder infections. I went to my primary care provider in mid December and she did bloodwork. It was done 12/18. My eGFR is 23!! And my creatinine is 2.26. I have an appointment with a nephrologist on Tuesday and I'm just worried. My only symptom is that I wake up slightly nauseous almost daily. Anyone she'd any light on this?

Hi my creatinine level jumped from 1.5 in Jan 2014 to 4.29 in July 2014. My legs and feet suddenly started swelling and I urinate frequently. Since all this started,I'm also thirsty all the time. Also, I guess it's pertinent to mention that my mother (73) just started dialysis, which she does at home herself. My daughter is now on the kidney transplant list, she's 30, but hers is attributed to Graves Disease, I believe. Is Kidney issues hereditary? .

My Uncle's wife had a kidney transplant last year. With recent medical checks, the doctor found high level of the protein (albumin) in her urine. Do any of you have an idea to what kind of medications she should stick to?

Okay, I am going to have to ask many questions because trying to fit them all in one post is going to be way too wordy.
I have a question that has been bothering me a lot lately:
Is it possible to have damage from stomach acid but never feel pain, have no symptoms and have no feedback from your body to let you know something is wrong?
I apparently have damage, but these are my symptoms.
No = Never had symptom B4
Yes = Have symptom
PRILOSEC = Only RECENTLY got symptom since starting Prilosec (Been off it for a couple days)
Heartburn: No
Bad Breath: No
Sore Throat: No
Lump in Throat: No (PRILOSEC)
Hoarseness: No
Bloating: No (PRILOSEC)
Stomach Pains: No (PRILOSEC, feels like what I imagine a mini labor contraction would feel like)
Gas: No (PRILOSEC)
Bitter Taste: No
Cough: No
Asthma: No
Nausea: No
Trouble Swallowing Food: Yes
- Feels like SOME foods (It's always the same food) get "stuck" somewhere between my throat and my stomach.
- It hurts.
- I salivate a LOT. (Maybe enough to fill 3/4 of a cup)
- Drinking water makes it WORSE as it just rises the food contents closer to my throat.
- Going into a dark, quiet room and focusing hard on relaxing, calming thoughts usually makes the food go down (Stress, loud noise, bright lights seem to make it worse, sometimes creates hiccups)
- Sometimes this doesn't work though, and I have to forcibly vomit the food back up because it simply will not go down
- Can stay in the "stuck" position for 10-15 minutes
- Feels like a muscle is way too tight and won't let the food pass, and I can almost FEEL it when it relaxes. Breath of relief.
- Gets better as I eat the food, not worse. (It's almost like the muscle is getting used to relaxing or something.)
- Taking Prilosec has not helped (Been taking it for 2 months)
Does this sound like a GERD type of swallowing issue? Because I was just browsing around the forums, looking at this topic and I noticed a few things:
- Every post seems to be talking about problems with the throat, not the area between the throat and the stomach
- Many people are saying that water helps them, while water makes it worse for me
- Many people are saying that they have that lump alongside this swallowing issue. I have had the swallowing issue for a while, but have only recently (since starting Prilosec) felt a lump.
- Many people are saying they have to "push" food. The food has easily already gotten past my throat no issues, my issue is that it just hangs somewhere between my throat and my stomach. I couldn't push it even if I wanted to, because that area doesn't have any voluntary movement.
- Many people are saying they have trouble swallowing saliva. I have never had that issue.
Mucus: Yes/No (Sometimes get it, thickness varies, not really been a real problem for me, so 50/50 on this one.)
