Hemorrhoids :: When A Rubber Band Ligation Is Recommended?

May 12, 2014

After having sporadic bright red blood in my poop last year, I went to the doctor in late Oct/early Nov. They took a look inside, saw I had a hemorrhoid. I took some vasculera for a couple weeks, started taking fiber daily, drinking water, etc. But every 2-3 months since, the bleeding returns (usually after I've had a stretch where I went 24+ hours without pooping). There is the occasional mild burning back there, but nothing severe. At what point is the rubber band ligation recommended?

Hemorrhoids :: Hemorrhoidectomy, Rubber Band Ligation And Other Solutions

I'Ve had hemorrhoids my whole life, i'm 35 and overweight and not active.  I sit for hours on the toilet and usually only eat meat.  I have fast tracked surgery and am now terrified to get it done.  My piles have since become a normal part of my life, but every once in awhile ill have flare ups when i eat something i KNOW my bowels don't like, like pork fat or beef fat or if foods were cooked or defrosted improperly, like rotting meat etc.  AFter every flarup i usually go through what i ate and i can pinpoint what it is by buying what it is and trying to only eat that product for the day to see how my bowels react.    My question is that should I get this surgery done to remove my internal and external piles?  I have heard that people lose the ability to control it and my own parents have both had hemorrhoidectomies, and my father has had leakage ever since that surgery.  Needless to say hemorrhoids run in my family.  I want to be able to eat whatever foods and enjoy my life.  I hate having to live in fear of food and how it totally screws my life up for work and play.  I just want to live a normal life like all the normal people who eat whatever they want and don't get hemorrhoids.  I realise that even when I get the surgery I still cannot eat anything that will cause my bowels to flare up because it will just cause more "new" hemorrhoids to flare up?  Proper diet, exercise etc will make sure that I never get them again, but should I get the surgery done?  I have had rubber banding done and I had a real bad flareup after it so I booked surgery instead of spending a year of rubber banding my anus.  My uncle told my mom that he had the rubber banding done and still had to have surgery because they can come back after the rubber banding!  My doctor said that it could take more than 1 surgery to remove them all and I'm terrified at having to have one surgery let alone 2?  I'm at a place right now in my life where I can cope and live with it, and live with the flare ups, but i keep wondering that if there is hope i can live a normal life without hemorrhoids, should i take that chance?  Please I need help from fellow sufferers of this affliction, or medical professionals.  I tried to talk to my surgeon and he wants to continue rubberbanding and then discuss surgery.  I then went to see him again to talk about surgery and that I had heard that they can come back even after banding and that I want them removed and never to come back again, and he then said that he can do the surgery and scheduled my hemoroidectomy in 2 weeks.  Should i just continue with RBL(rubber band ligation) although painful flareups for two weeks happen afterwards?  Should I just keep my surgery appointment and get them cutout and then deal with whatever consequences?  Im scared reading about people getting fistula's or puss and bleeding and other complications from surgery which turn their lives into a living hell.  living with hemoroids seems much better than having your *** swell up so huge and be constantly painful and having to have more surgeries or procedures to cut and drain the puss from absess's or fistula's that are a result of surgery.

Hemorrhoid Rubber Band Ligation (Barron's Ligation) Experience

I had two internal hemorrhoids banded yesterday in a painless procedure and painless aftermath. At the Thornhill Endoscopy here in Toronto, they performed a thorough examination by sigmoidoscopy first, to determine that there are no other issues. They then proceeded to band my hemorrhoids. Sedation was offered and which I took - felt awesome as I drifted into a sleep. When I awoke a few minutes later I asked if I was banded and the nurse said yes. I then asked if my rectum was frozen or something and they said no. I couldn't feel the bands. The only sensation is a mild bit (VERY MILD) of fullness - which is what I felt before with the hemorrhoids. I was worried before going in that I could be in a lot of pain, but that is totally not the case - NO PAIN. And they told me that no further banding is needed at this time and that what they did should do the trick.

Their recommendation is no lifting for 2-3 weeks. No bike riding for the same time. To take their over-the-counter prescription of stool softeners for 15 days. DO NOT bear down. Eat a high fiber diet. Otherwise get back to life. And today is day 2 - went shopping, walking and feel totally great. Again, the only sensation is a little tiny bit of fullness, which is normal considering the hemorrhoid has been bandied which makes it swell, until it falls off.
The important thing for me is to ensure that I don't bear down and create a new hemorrhoid, especially over the next couple of weeks.

Hemorrhoids :: Avoiding Solid Foods - 8 Rubber Band Ligations And Fissurectomy

I have a crazy idea to starve myself of solid food, or food entirely, for a period of time to see if my body can heal itself from internal hemorrhoids. I have had hemorrhoids for three years and they've gotten much worse this past year. I can remember a couple times when I didn't have a BM for a few days and remember feeling normal again.

A bit of background, I am willing to try anything to get back to feeling better. I have had a colonoscopy, five rubber band ligations for a total of eight rubber bands and a fissurectomy/ LIS. I eat 100% my daily value of fiber spread throughout every meal, have a BM twice a day, and have 3-6 sitz baths/ showers a day. I have tried every home-remedy or lifestyle change. Soreness and itching are my primary symptoms, with no blood. Doctors say I have only minor internal hemorrhoids (hemorrhoidectomy not recommended) but the symptoms are persistent and have caused me a significantly lower quality of life. What else is there to try? Would avoiding BM's give the body time to heal or just temporarily make me feel better?

Hemorrhoids :: Colonoscopy Before Ligation

My husband was referred to a specialist to undergo ligation for internal hemorrhoids using the CRH O'Regan System. They told him they will need to rule out colon cancer before the ligation procedure. He is 39 and has dealt with hemorrhoids since his 20s, no familial history of colon cancer, no anemia or other red flags that he is at risk for cancer. I am more concerned about the colonoscopy than the ligation. Do all physicians require that testing?

Diagnosed hypothyroid >10 years. I have struggled all of this time to feel 'normal'. Drs have continually increased Levothyroxine to attempt to normalise TSH. Six months ago they prescribed 300mcg. The pharmacist queried this! I take it regularly, without food etc.  I am still symptomatic and free T4 & T3 still low. Anyone else on this dose without effect?

Cialis Or Viagra - One Time Recommended Dose?

I am a 40 year old sexually active man. I am in a monogamous relationship with a 36 year old woman. I passed my last physical with flying colors. I run about 3-5 miles a day. I do not have and ED issues and I can get and maintain an erection easily.

My partner has been out of state on business for about a year and she is coming home for our tenth anniversary. I want us to have a magical weekend before she has to return.

I understand the benefits of using drugs like Cialis and Viagra but will one dose of either adversely affect me? Additionally, what dosage would be enough to provide the desired effect?

Spinal Cord :: ACDF Recommended For Muscle Weakness?

I was involved in a motorbike accident in June 2013. I had some shoulder pain at the time but all was well shortly after. In December of 2013, I started having shoulder blade pain which was actually C6 C7 radiculopathy . I was going for therapy and was prescribed NSAID and lyrica with no relief. In January on vacation I was riding a motor scooter and immediately noticed shooting pain down my right arm with numbness as well as neck pain. I had some of these symptoms before going on vacation but it definitely got worse while I was away. When i returned back to work, the pain became worse and I ended up going to an emergency department January 28. Up until this time I did not sleep well for over 6 weeks. The emergency room doctor had the same diagnosis, cervical radiculopathy and would not send me for a MRI but told me to go back to my Sports Med Dr to order an MRI. They also prescribed me Percocet, more NSAID, and muscle relaxants. That afternoon my Sports Dr changed to a different narcotic and ordered the MRI which I had 4 days later. The MRI showed a large right sided disc herniation c6 c7 hitting the c7 nerve root with cord compression. I was sent to a neurosurgeon on Mar 5. He reviewed the MRI and did some tests and said I have Myelopathy. He said it is a slowly progressive spinal cord injury and the goal is to stop the progression. He said tingling transitions to muscle weakness to the arms and legs and transitions to loss of function of my arms and legs.

I signed off to have an ACDF C6 C7.

My question to all is, if the pain is better but my Tricep weakness is still there along with a little bit of numbness, is the surgery still recommended? I want to continue doing all the active things I have always done including working out and riding a motorbike. There still is a little bit of pain in my neck and occasional pain in my arm but nothing like it was. I don't want to lose any strength or risk the chance of having to be in a wheelchair if I fall a certain way.

I am scheduled for surgery May 26 bit I can cancel up until I have it done.

How Many Considering Gastric Band Surgery?

I was wondering how many of you are considering gastric band surgery?

I went o see my doctor about it, and he said that, although I fulfill all criteria for the op, they wouldn't consider me uless I have tried Orlistat first, so that's why he has given me them.

I have 8 stones to lose, so presumably wouldn't be able to take Orlistat for that long!

Weight Loss - Intentional :: Bad Gastric Band Pain

I had my band done 10 days ago.  Until day 7 all was well, slowly recovering but then I started getting these horrible stabbing pains.  Most of my incisions are too the left but one is just off centre to the right and it's under here I am getting the horrible pain.  It's ok if I sit/ lie still but if I start moving round the twinges start.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I called the nurse she said it was probably where my port was embedded.

I have had no problems at the incision site, but intense pain in my diaphragm, left side, and up my left shoulder..between my collarbone and top of breast. Pain moves across my chest, but the worst in on left side. At 2 week checkup, I was told my diaphragm was irritated and it would go away. I take 4 Advil per day at his suggestion, and nothing seems to help, but lying flat. What is causing my pain & how can it be relieved? Also, I get hiccups several times per day.
