Genitourinary Prolapse Recovery (6 Weeks) :: Sex OK? Still Swollen Down There
Apr 5, 2016
I'm 6 weeks 1 day into my recovery a&p repair & a hoist up of the womb.. can't remember the medical word for that. All guidance says sex is ok from 6 weeks, what a joke. I am still so swollen and sore that is the last thing on my mind! This may be tmi but my vjj is unrecognisable in a bad way, it is so lumpy and bumpy and oh so sore. They do not seem to have taken much time or consideration into the aesthetics when stitching me back up. It just looks like a mess down there I am hoping things improve.....

i am almost 7 weeks post op and yesterday and this morning I have noticed a few stitches on my pad.
Feel fine and recovery going well (considering) so am I right in assuming these are a sign that things are healing? And is this the usual time you would start to see the stitches come away?

Had A&P repair done 16 weeks again, had a few up and downs along the way but on the whole things were going ok, that is until last week, I have started to feel sore underneath and quite uncomfortable and this morning have noticed a bit of blood, nothing major, not had a period since last February so hoping it's not that.
Has anyone else expericaned this? I did call the consultants office yesterday but was told that I have now been discharged back to my dr, so would need to see him.

I had a prolapsed cervix and bladder a year after my hysterectomy. It is now going on two years post surgery. I am still having stitches break thru at the top of my vagina where my cervix was removed. It hurts! I'm going to the Doctor Monday, but very scared. I have moved and this will be the first time seeing him. Do any of you know what I will have to look forward too? What might he do?

Did the surgery work for you?

Well after a very painful first night (not actually caused by the op) I'm doing really well. Tummy is very sore probably due to the wind. Just managed my first bowel motion, didn't have constipation as such, my pelvic floor just wouldn't open up. It was a strange sensation, pooping when everything is hitched up where it's supposed to be, but really great too. Standing up and not having sagging bits between my legs is just fantastic, I'm over the moon. No pain at all from the anterior repair, I wouldn't know it's been done. Been tensing my pelvic floor and still no pain. I wish I'd had it done years ago.

Would I know if I've torn my stitches? My surgeon mentioned I wouldn't always know if I've done damage. But surely it would hurt if I popped a stitch?
I stupidly picked up my 3 year old without thinking, I'm 10 days post op and now paranoid I've done some damage, I've already had an infection which has popped one of the external stitches It didn't hurt when I picked her up but I know feel weird.

I've just been for a wee and looked down as I wiped and there's a long string of stitch (still attached inside) but dangling out? It's about 2 inches long!!
There's always been what looks like a little ball of skin, with a looped stitch going through it.... That's still there but this long one is new! Should I be worried?
I've been bleeding since the op, worse since Thursday but I think it's a period! Could this be why?

Evening all - just been to the loo and pretty sure that a stitch has come away - I'll be 4 weeks post op on thurs - does this seem too soon? Am also now really nippy down there which I haven't been for a good few days - need to wait until I have had my dinner before taking my painkillers - don't want a repeat of yesterday afternoon.

I am 7 months post rectocele and vaginal vault operation all being absolutely fine but last week started with a brownish discharge which has got bloodier. Tonight there is noticeable blood, very brown not fresh blood, and I am sure that when I have just been for a pee that there were stitches down the loo. I have appointment with nurse on Monday anyway because of discharge but can stitches hang around for 7 months ?

I'm 30 years old and have 6 children, this operation is taking over my life !! I'm starting to get really depressed and switching off to everyone, I've been really repressed a few years ago when with my X as we have 4 children together, before this opp my life was perfect, I'm getting married next year, found my perfect man and got 2 kids together now (6 in our eyes) and now everything seams to be falling apart because of me and Thai operation !!
They say don't lift anything more than a kettle full, but I'm in th real world and I'm sure unless your childless and don't work you can follow the rule exactly but I am struggling already and my help goes next week when I'm 5 weeks post opp, I do have help most days BUT not to be able to pick my 6 month old up is killing me.

I had my bladder repair just under 3 weeks ago and found these weeks to be a lot worse than when I had a repair 5 years ago. That was done with stitches, this has been a mesh repair. I think the shock of the op and being discharged too early,I think, has added to worry. I still feel smelly due to discharge or blood and worry when I open my bowels ( never been constipated before!) Felt really low and tearful this time as well. BUT...I have felt much better for the last 2 days and feel more positive...I feel for everyone on here. We really should be given more info when we leave hospital...

I have an upcoming anterior repair booked for April. I have recently realised I will have to have at least 6 weeks off to heal. My job is a sales assistsant in a ladies boutique. My husband is off with me for the first 2 weeks. My question is what can I do after this time. Will i be able to walk around, walk upstairs, make a cuppa, or even go for a run in the car (not driving i know) I understand how recovery is the key to this surgery being a success and I certainly dont want it to fail.My husband is brilliant at home so i have no worries about him doing the chores at home while i rest up. Any other advice would be wonderful from you ladies who have been through it. Positive stories welcome lol. I have a wonderful surgeon who i completely feel will do a fantastic job.

I have rectal & vagina vault prolapse - Rectocele & Cystocele( lower 1/3rd) and sex is quite painful and difficult. I have 3 choices at the moment ;
1/ do nothing until the prolapse gets much worst but this means having uncomfortable & sometimes painful sex ..I am coping with bladder & bowel problems with kegal exercises but hate the look and feeling of it down there.
2nd... try a pressery? If I pressary works my Gyna would preform a much simple perinuem repair to fix the tight skin problem. This still involves stiches so I wonder if pressary is the way to go and I have heard that can affect sex too? or have the surgery. I had huge cuts to deliver my first child as she was stuck in my birth channel and then they figure I didn't had the width to deliver here???!!!. So many stiches and at least 2 further opreations to try and correct the terrible job the first surgeon had done on me. I have literally a thin area of skin in my perinium that is only about a 1 cm wide which is treched so tightly it hurts when touched. Sex has been uncomfortable for the past 30 years and several positions are out of the question. As I have grown older 58 now and the symptoms of menopause have raised their ugly heads. This area has lost its elasticity and has become hard and very taut.
3/ Do the surgery for the rectocelle & cystocele .. I really worry especially after reading this forum that it won't fix the problem and could make it heaps worst.
Does anyone have any stats on % of successful operations? This site is full of bad experiences.

I know people have asked about shaving pubic hair before an op and surgeons say not to because it increases the risk of infection, but I didn't realise that the same also applies to shaving legs! Just read in the Mail today that you shouldn't shave legs within a week before an operation, for the same reason! That's news to me!

Has anyone had any experience with those electronic pelvic floor exercisers? Even though I saw a physio pre op and she showed me how to do them, I've youtubed it, read about it.... I'm still not convinced I'm doing them right!
I saw on Amazon there's an electric one which has got amazing reviews.
Have any of you tried one post surgery? If so, what's your opinion?

I have a rectocele and I am getting it repaired next month. When I saw the surgeon she said I also had some stress incontinence based on the urodynamics study that she did. I know I do, but it isn't bad. Sometimes a drop when I sneeze but it's not awful. She said it might get worse after the rectocele repair and suggested a mid-urethral sling. It is made of a synthetic mesh.
Any suggestions on resources for information about this procedure? Right now I don't feel like the symptoms are bad enough to risk side effects but I don't have enough information to decide.

I was doing well, apart from an infection which may or may not have gone. Not sure as there's still a slight odour but not as bad as it was after I took antibiotics. Now have a sore throat and aching, so stuck back indoors again.
