I have had Fibromyalgia for 4 years now. I have a superb doctor who has been there for me for a number of years.
Fibromyalgia is a debilitating disease and unfortunately is lifelong with no cure.
Pregabalin tablets are good for the nerve pain that is experienced with Fibromyalgia, along with Duloxetine, MST.
I find that they help with the pain.
Many people have told me there is a cure but professionals like doctors and my rheumatologist have said there is not the trouble is they say they don't actually know what the cause is as everyone is different so how can you cure what you don't know i have been researching into other professionals theories and run them but my rhuematologist and psychologist and they have said that they don't believe there is a cure yet and i have spoken to a specialist who has been researching fibro for over 40 years now and he said there is not a cure yet i have heard so many comments on this and was wondering what others thought on this subject and how many people think it's true or false

Recent research suggests that a compound ( sulforaphane) found in broccoli if used in the form of a pill ( you would have to eat vast amounts of broccoli to get equal benefits to one dose of the drug) blocks the inflammation and damage to the cartilage. View 3 RepliesI'm going to start off by saying my condition/illness or whatever it may be is a medical mystery to six doctors (physicians, neurologists, psychiatrists) and that I am unemployed and rejecting job offers because my condition limits my abilities and brain function. It is a roadblock in my life and I can't seem to drive around it. I am a healthy and fit 24 y/o male who has been suffering from transient, hard to describe disorientating episodes/spells that I first had the pleasure of experiencing at 18. Since then, the episodes have occurred almost daily but do not last all day long - they are TRIGGERED by certain situations and environments. I can feel the spells gradually, but pretty quickly coming on (they don't occur at the drop of a hat) and I actually have the ability to stop them by laying down in a dark room and literally putting a pillow over my face and just "shutting down" for a couple minutes. Weird, I know. The "spells" last anywhere from 10 minutes to multiple hours, depending on if I get to a dark room with a pillow. I've tried multiple migraine medications and none have even remotely helped.
Triggers:
-Focusing on something for more than a few minutes - even talking to a person! I can't even talk to a freaking family member face-to-face without falling into one of these spells. One minute I'm fine and then there's a total disconnect between what I'm seeing and my cognitive function. Depth perception also throws me off here.
-Similar to focusing...when I'm talking for an extended period of time. It feels like my brain is totally deprived of oxygen and I then fall into one of these disorienting episodes
-Light contrast situations, especially when I'm in a well-lit room when it's dark outside. It's like my brain doesn't "agree" with what i'm seeing and the light situation
Symptoms:
In addition to feeling extremely disoriented, the other symptoms include a general feeling of disconnectedness, brain fog, a headache of pinpoint pain in the back right of my head that occurs during most of the episodes, a massive drop in mood and overall emotion (apathy I guess you could say), a minor lack of memory of anything that occurred during one of these episodes (for example if I read 5-10 pages during one of the spells I wouldn't remember specific details of the read but would remember the general theme and whatnot), and extreme cognition trouble (speaking, writing and even focusing on a person and their eyes). One minute I'm thinking and speaking clearly and the next minute one of these episodes can surface and I start to totally jumble my thoughts, words and sentences and I sound like a complete idiot. At this point in the dizzy spell, I want to just lay in bed and cover a pillow over my face in the dark. When I do that, it's literally like hitting the reset button and the symptoms decrease significantly.
I have had an EEG and and a brain MRI - both normal.
These episodes or spells or whatever they are are affecting my quality of life. I used to be a very happy, energetic and social person and now this issue is somewhat holding me back, though I do go up against it daily in hopes that I can increase my tolerance of the spells, which I can't.
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice regarding diagnosing graves and thyroid eye disease in pregnancy. Having never had any problems until being pregnant I'm very confused as to why I've suddenly got it? At around 12 weeks into my pregnancy I noticed a change in my eyes (one was protruding), after seeing an eye dr, he advised I'd be tested for hyperthyroidism and following his advice the bloods came back as a positive for hyperthyroidism. I was put on PTU by an endocrinologist for the rest of my pregnancy and at week 39 I noticed a yellowing in the White of my eyes and admitted myself to the maternity unit for blood tests following speaking with a midwife. It turned out I had developed severe jaundice (Which I now have learnt through research to be a severe side effect to PTU) and that my liver was failing; I had to have an emergency c section that night. I am pleased to say I have a had a healthy baby boy but I'm so anxious as to whether these conditions will worsen post pregnancy.
View 1 RepliesI am a 24 year old who works a 12 hour rotating shift pattern (including night shifts). For the past 6 months or maybe more o have had upper left abdominal pain (cramping/aching) and more recently lower pain (sometimes across lower, sometimes left and sometimes a specific place on the lower right). I put it down to IBS due to shift work. My partner convinced me to see the GP as I have a family history of IBD. Oh and my bowel movements vary from constipated (less than once a week) to lose (not diarrhoea and multiple times per day)
Had stool tests and blood tests. I expected them not to find anything to be honest and just did it to please my boyfriend and put his mind at rest.
Doctor phoned and said that "the stool test shows signs of inflammation indicative of inflammatory bowel disease". I couldn't really ask more questions because of where I was. Phoned in for blood results and told by reception that they were fine.
I have been referred to the gastroenterologist and have an appointment in 2 weeks.
I am tired all the time and find it really difficult to get out of bed, frequently have naps at work but put that down to shift working.
I don't want to take any laxatives because I never know when it will change between constipation and loose stools and when I'm working, I often can't get to the toilet.
I often have joint pain but I also have a knee injury and some hyper mobile joints.
I am so confused as to what is going on and hate not being in control of my body. I know I only have mild symptoms, I feel so alone (shift work doesn't lend itself to meeting people regularly).

Although i don't suffer any pain while urinating or while erection but it pains trying to forcefully retract foreskin while erect.
I strongly don't want to go for circumcision or surgery. Please help regarding the methods. Are there any creams available in india OTC. I am losing my self confidence, will it create problem during sex even with a condom?

View 1 RepliesI've been taking anti depression meds for years. now, and none of them have been helping. All they've accomplished to do is cause some bad side effects. I've heard that there are certain type of herbs that can help with many of the same issues as anti depression meds. One of them I've been reading up on and taking is rhodiola root extract. It's supposed to be good for depression, anxiety, among others. What I want to know is if anyone of you ever use any type of herbs? If so can you get away with using just one type of herb to do its work, or do you have to combine it or is it a must that you combine it with other herbs? I hope I can get some feedback from someone that's actually using it by experience. I've learned throughout the yrs. that they are the only ones that can give you a straight answer.

View 1 RepliesOk, so I recently turned 30 and just had my very first hemorrhoid trouble ever. First it was just internal bathroom bleeding, then I got this weird "skin tag" near by butthole, then the external pillow of doom appeared and all the horrible itching began. That was about 2 weeks ago. I don't have insurance so couldn't see a doctor, just researched online a lot and got some prep h suppositories. I used those butt bullets for a couple days but on day 2, I started to feel super nauseous after insertion. Don't know if it was the prep h or something else, I was sick that week so might have been unrelated but either way, had to use the bathroom right after insertion and lost it anyway.
Rather than trying to put another one in there, I decided to just clean myself with baby wipes as I'd gotten used to doing and instead grabbed some castor oil (that I'd been using to hopefully clear up some old acne scars on my face - it's the organic health food store oil, not the constipation drugstore oil). I added a squirt of sesame oil (that I'd bought to try that oil pulling thing before switching to coconut oil, recently started getting pretty holistic with the healthy stuff). Anyway, so I smeared that stuff all over my inner bum, figured it'd at least keep things from chafing and maybe cool down the discomfort. I reapplied once more before bed and the next day the hemorrhoid was about half as big as the day before. I was completely shocked! So I continued to apply after cleaning the area, did it maybe 3 times that next day and by that night it was even smaller. This is my 4th day using castor and sesame oil and the pillow is still there but just barely - it's not hanging out of my butt anymore, just sort of lining the hole-rim.. so now when I apply, I dip my finger inside just a tiny bit to make sure I'm still smothering the thing all over (I know, I'm graphic AND long winded, but if this helps anyone else it'll be worth it). I have zero discomfort, can't even tell it's there when I'm not applying the oil. There's a chance it could just be a coincidence and it would have gone down on it's own by now anyway, but I know I'll be reaching right for the oil again if it ever flares back up. If this really is what's curing it, I gotta spread the word and I hope you do too!

Many articles around the web come out with claims that herbs can cure infertility. As a person who has dealt with infertility myself and then finally conceived using IVF, I feel strongly about not scamming women who are desperate for a baby into buying herbs that are no good for them at all. Can I get your opinion on herbs for women's fertility?

View 14 Repliesafter contracting cervical spondylosis through an industrial accident i have taken many different forms of medication, namely diclofenac, tramadol and co-dydramol, none work, two disc replacements later, c5-c6 c6-c7, still symptoms persist, tramadol are horrendous, sleepless nights itchiness mild vertigo drowsiness, a truly awful drug, diclofenac caused some form of breathing difficulty, although im not an asthma sufferer, i think the only possible cure for this illness is a spinal fusion, my surgeon seems reluctant in doing this as he is trialling new discs, i never wanted to be a guinea pig, i just wanted to be cured, four years later im worse than ever, no work cant drive cant sleep at night, any ideas?
View 1 RepliesI have been diagnosed with spinal disc herniation on L4 and L5 on my back + spondylolisthesis. I was relatively pain free for about a month until all of the sudden the pain came back a week ago, now stronger than ever. It's typical sciatica pain, shooting down pain from my right lower back all the way to the right ankle. When I sit down it helps but I literally can't walk for more than about 100metres at a time,the pain comes too much. I've already been out of work for the whole week and really can't afford more so I'm desperate for some relief.
I've been to the doctors a couple of times this week. So far they have given me: Arcoxia 90mg (tried that twice, no relief), Naproxen 500mg (no relief), Co-codamol 30/500mg (took three of these one day,no relief) and now I've taken Amitriptyline 25mg at nights. I've slept fine but it has not had any sort of an affect during the day. I haven't taken any of these together though, I mean I've just taken one medicine at a time.
If anyone has ANY idea what could help in this acute pain, I'd really appreciate it! Has anyone tried sea salt with their bath, how does that work? I've heard people have got some help of that. And next time I'm going to my GP (probably in a couple of days), any ideas what medicine I should ask for?
