I've been taking Gabapentin for 10 months and found it relieved the pain associated with Fibromyalgia. Unfortunately I have gained about 12 pounds in weight since I started taking it and feel the is the most serious side effect for me.

View 3 RepliesFor ages my weight has been fairly steady but recently I have piled on the pounds; 9lbs in 6 weeks. I feel so heavy and the dresses I have just bought no longer fit me. I am exercising and eating healthily, including protein which I eat first but each day I am heavier. Has anyone else experienced rapid weight gain?

View 2 RepliesI was prescribed Gabapentin for fibromyalgia like pain - neuropathic pain. About 90 mins after taking one 300mg capsule I was experiencing some strong side effects. My spatial sense was distorted - I seemed bigger or smaller than I usually experience myself. I kept hearing indistinct voices - whole sentences in voices I did not recognise. I felt intense nausea. At one point I caught sight of my face in a mirror and had the feeling that the image was somehow independent of me, and that the face there was malevolent, and I was unable to break away for several minutes despite quite strong fear. I went to bed and as I lay there I felt like I was not quite in my body - lying beside myself somehow. My mind was caught up for a while in a series of incredibly violent and distressing daydream-like images over which I seemed to have little control. My body twitched and convulsed irregularly - although I've experienced this with intense anxiety and at this point I was really quite afraid! I woke early after a fitful sleep with an intense headache - behind the forehead, temples and also pain in my neck. Also some nausea. The headache lasted all day and into the night. It felt on a par with a moderately bad migraine (maybe 7 out of 10). I was unable to do much of anything except lie down and wait for it to pass (pain killers had no discernible effect on the level of pain).
That was one pill of 300mg. And needless to say I won't be taking another, let alone the prescribed 3 a day!
All I have eaten while on the 40mg pill for five days is fruits, veggies, lean protein, and whole grains. I've drank lots of green tea and water.

View 15 RepliesI've been taking pregabalin/Lyrica for roughly 5yrs at 300mg a day. Today I find out that my rheumatologist wants me to start on gabapentin as well as the pregabalin, starting on 300mg eventually getting up to 900 mg a day. Has anyone else taken both these meds and have they worked? What are your experiences?

View 2 RepliesI have been taking gabapentin for around 8wks in that time my mood was becoming so low I was close to crying constantly .
I do suffer mild depression but this made it much worse I was like a ticking bomb waiting to explode I was only takin 300×3 times daily well I have cut them down and now am gabapentin free and never again will I try any other meds
acupuncture and exercise is the way i'm going to go now
I am exhausted I wake up every morning tired. That's if I can sleep at all. I constantly misplace things. I am on gabapentin but it doesn't seem to help..... Any advice?
View 22 RepliesJust got home from rheumatology appointment. Met a lovely doctor who finally diagnosed me with having chronic fatigue, fibro and raynaud's. He has prescribed Gabapentin to help kick start a sleeping pattern, anyone taking it? He is also testing for Lupus as my father has it but isn't convinced I have that. As nice as is was he basically told me to go home and research these conditions and to go back in 4 month when he will decide if I go down CBT route or psychology to release the underlying causes. Feel better for having a name for how I feel but also very much left to my own devise.
View 15 RepliesI was switched from Nucynta 50mg to to Opana 5mg (OxyMorphone) by my Pain Mgt doctor and I have a total different experience. I don't know if they messed up or what, but here's the issue.
While I was on Nucynta, I would take it, and eventually feel the effects, i.e. the lightheadedness, the "high" feeling, and also the pain relief. The reason I was switched was that Nucynta gave me migraines. Bad enough where I got ill and had to run to bed with all lights off.
Onced I was switched to Opana 5mg, things were different. I took 3 last night, my very first dosage, and took the first. No effects, no pain relief, no "high" feeling, nothing. So, about a hour and fifteen minutes later, I took another one. Still nothing. So I wait again, same amount of time, took a third pill...... Nothing.
So, when I saw the doctor originally and was switched, I was told that Opana was an equivalent to the nucynta. So, if it's an equivalent, why did I go from 50mg to 5mg? I'm just curious. I know they are different drugs and probably manufacturers. Can anyone shed some light on this bizarre issue?
I'm 22 years of age and I wish to gain weight. Please assist me on what to do.

View 7 RepliesI have today been diagnosed for the 2nd time with an overactive thyroid.
The first was about 6 years ago and I was put on 25mg of Carbimazole a day. Unfortunately my weight went from a 12 1/2S to 16st once I started the tablets. I took the decision to stop them as I suffered from some of the side effects and my white blood cells were being affected. Since stopping the tablets my weight has gone down (from 16st to 9st) and people say I look great.
I have been told today that I should restart the tablets as my T4 is now instead of the norm of 10 to 25 gone up to 70. I am worried that if I start the tablets my weight will go up very quickly. I have all the symptoms, shaking hands, lump in the throat, can't stand heat etc.
Having been in this situation before I am very worried and not sure what to do even thought I have told my doc my concerns re weight gain.
Does anyone else feel they are putting weight on? I have only been on it for a couple of weeks but feel bloated and as if I am putting weight on fast.

A few years back I was on celexa and gained over 30 pounds (i've lost most of it now but it took forever and I do not want to get that heavy again)

View 2 RepliesI have been prescribed 15mg for 2 weeks for depression which has lead to severe weight loss Iam 5'5 and weigh just under 7 stone which makes me look horrible, so horrible I can hear people talk about me in the street, I look terrible. Before taking the medication I was aware of my weight and have always made special efforts to eat regular but still could not maintain a good weight. I have only been on mirtazapine for a few days, and have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks to see how I'm getting on and maybe to up my dosage. I haven't had any hunger cravings like I have heard people talk about and I'm really worried that I'm going to be the only person ever not to gain weight from these meds. My weight really adds to my depression and stops me going out the house, I want to gain 2-3 stone. But don't think this would be possible as I already eat a good amount of food every day.
View 13 RepliesI'm an 18 year old girl who has been taking this medication otherwise known as Avanza or Remeron for 9 months now. I have gained 10kgs or around 22lbs in this time and therefore am going to begin the process of coming off it in about 3 weeks as I have found that my mood has gotten worse because I feel self conscious all the time now about the weight gain.
I haven't changed my eating habits much at all, in the first few weeks I ate more but once I noticed the weight gain I started eating only healthy foods and small quantities but it hasn't shifted the weight just slowed the gain down.
I am seeking help as to how people have come off the medication, and what effect it has had on their weight. Did it come off easily? How long did it take to lose the weight etc...?
Oh and I am on a 30mg dose.
