View 2 RepliesI am a sixty year old female and went for my annual eye exam. I was told by my optometrist my left eye optic nerves were elevated - OS>OD. Also has irregular Mac. OS. She had her nurse call and make an appointment for me to see an Ophthalmologist tomorrow. I had a Brian MRI in December and the report reads. "There is nonspecific mild focal areas of bilateral supratentorial which is commonly secondary to chronic microvascular ischemia. MS seems less likely, but cannot be excluded".
I have intermittent headaches only on the left side and at times feel nauseous. Should I be concerned?
The Drs thought I had Pseudotumor Cerebri, since my optic nerves have in swollen since Oct 2013. I had a MRI and Spinal tap. Found out my pressure was too low. But they found oligoclonal bands in my CSF. BUT concluded not enough evidence for MS. I have many symptoms of MS. My leg has been numb and burning in my thigh all day. Has anyone experienced their optic nerves swollen with MS? I'm not talking about inflammation in the nerves just swollen. Worried about going blind and trying to figure out what's wrong. I'm waiting for the Michigan head and pain neurology clinic to set me up with an appt.
View 5 RepliesI was diagnosed 3 years ago and recently spent a week in hospital due to a headache not moving my eyesight went with it this time for the first time ever and I was driving with my 7 year old in the car it really scared me yet I had a lumbar puncture pressure was only 24 but my speech has been effected my eyes keep blurring this headache has been here for 10 days now and still no budge when I was in hospital they said both my optic nerves were swollen and I seen my neurologist today and he says it's just a migraine. The first 4 attempts at lumbar puncture they did in the wrong place so was unsuccessful and have left me in agony can anyone suggest what I can do I am not overly obese but all's my specialist says is lose weight they will stop
View 3 RepliesI went to a neuro-ophthalmologist due to some issues with my right eye. Blurry spot. Nothing too crazy, but annoying.
He did Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and vision field test. The vision field test came out fine, but the OCT showed thinning of the optic nerve. He told me he wanted me to be seen for an evaluation of possible MS.
After posting here a earlier this month about whether or not to go see a neuro, I had made an appointment with an MS Specialist. I see him on June 3rd.
Any idea what thinning of the optic nerves can mean?
A $60 eye exam revealed swelling in the optic nerves that got me a referral an eye specialist, the eye specialist then told me I most likely have high pressure cerebral fluid that is causing the swelling and need a CAT scan to look for brain tumors, no brain tumors were found ....... but the cerebral fluid must be drained to prevent continuous swelling of the optic nerves that will cause separation & blindness.
The CAT scan cost me $1,000
The cerebral fluid draining cost me $1,700
The cerebral fluid draining required a large needle to puncture through the lumbar area into my lower spinal cords, as the lumbar area does not have 1 solid nerve as the upper portion, it is basically like spaghetti so there is NO risk of paralysis when done by professionals with a live X-ray machine to line up the needle between vertebra for safe insertion.
I don't know what measurement scale they used, but the pressure reading was above 40+. They told me normal pressure should be between 8 and 12.
They then drained the pressure to about 18
As I was walking out of the hospital, I had never in my life had such extreme mental clarity and excellent vision.
Shortly afterwards, I noticed that my normal clumsiness was gone that I had dealt with all my life.
Reading
Math
Memory
Physical agility
Strength
Desire
Aggressiveness
too many to list
As I know all my life I was mentally slower than average until that procedure. It has been 1 1/2 years since then, and starting 2 months ago I noticed diminished capacity slowly creeping up as before, as I probably need the procedure done again and don't have the money to do it.I realized that if this high cerebral pressure would have been detected as a child, I could have gotten a better education if it had been corrected.
My mother can't see anything clearly for 3 to 4 years. Doctor says that her eyes nerve are been blocked.
View 1 RepliesI m diagnosed neurocysticercosis on left optic nerve n m having blurring of vision.
Drs have put me on steroids past one year ,but no Improvement is seen.
I took my 11 year old daughter for an eye exam yesterday and the optician told me that the angle the nerve entered the eye was slightly tilted. She gave me a letter to give to my GP who would further refer her to the eye clinic. It wasn't an urgent referral but I am worried about this. Her eyesight was perfect and she doesn't suffer and headaches eye.
View 3 RepliesI was having frequent headaches and occasionally feeling lightheaded with floaters. I went to the opticians and they referred me to the ophthalmologist who put eye drops in and said that at the back of my left eye the optic nerve was sheeted. (I don't understand what this term means and cannot see anything on the internet to explain either) He just said that I didn't have any other symptoms for Optic Neuritis and wasn't sure but didn't think it was anything sinister. I am now waiting for a scan of the eye to see what that shows.
However, the last couple of weeks I have been getting pins and needles all over my body, mainly in arms and legs. I've also had general aching pains.
I have read online about symptoms and they point to all kinds of things, Fibromyalgia, Anxiety and possibly MS. As you can imagine this has really scared me as I have read that problems with the optic nerve can also be related.
Has anyone else had these symptoms or are they too few for me to be making assumptions?
My son has had swollen eyes on and off but usually only one eye but is has happened in the other. I was told it's not pink eye probably allergies.
This morning he woke up with half of his lip upper and lower really swollen, no bites, not dark, just swollen.
When this happens whichever area is tender not itchy (except his eye but not all the time).
I am a healthy 52 year old man and just had my annual eye exam. The ocular pressure in BOTH my eyes is 19. I know the range is 10-21, but 19 is on the
high side of the range. Should I even be remotely concerned?
I visited eye dr for checking my eyes since I felt irritate and itch on eyelids. Dr. told the only problem is eyelid inflamed. He gave me TelFast pills, Opticorn eyedrop and Alcon Maxitrol eye drops for 2 weeks. But, I feel my eyes are weaker and blur than usual. I visited him last few days for follow up, but he only tell my eye is back to normal. So, I'll be ok by next week. But, I wonder can my eyes back to normal after treatment. I wonder what make blur and weaker eye?
View 2 RepliesI have Septo-optic dysplasia, and I'm lucky if I ever get to see someone who's even heard of it because it's apparently one of those rare and awkward conditions with varying symptoms. But basically, in my case, the nerves in my eyes didn't develope well or at all.
I have 6/60-6/48 vision in my right eye and 0 in my left eye; as in I don't even see black or anything at all. I don't think light could ever get in there.
My most recent check up at the Optician showed some discoloration on the optic nerve in my left eye (the blind eye). It appeared black, apparently, which my Optician said meant it had been there a long time, as opposed to grey? But no one seems to know if this is normal for an optic nerve that never formed properly.
Apparently the discoloration is not mentioned in any of my letters on record, though. Is that weird? That's the only thing making me worried. Some people say it should be obvious so not included, but others say that means it's new?
For the past 10 years I have had really sensitive lips and have only been able to use one type of lip balm. As anything else - lip sticks of glosses give me little sores on my lips and cause them to puff up and get little scabs and peel constantly - i also get dry patches under my eyes and eye lids. When I visited a doctor they told me I may have an allergy to nail polish and an ingredient in lip glosses/balms its also happens when I were nail polish. After removing it it usually clears up within a week.
Recently I haven't even be able to use my usual lip balm as my lips react to that as well and my eyes are puffing up and getting extremely itchy and stinging. I was heading overseas for 3 weeks and the doctor have me some tablets to take to clear up my lips as she said they looked like they had a staff infection. Whilst I was OS all my symptoms cleared up completely and within 2 days of returning home everything started up again!
A week after I had been back,I woke up in the morning and my eyes were completely closed over and extremely swollen. I visited a doctor and they said I might have hives or some type of allergy. I was put on antihistmines and a course of panafcortelone, which worked with the eye swelling and the lips a little. but now i have reduced the amount of panafcortelone I take daily as I am at the end of my course, as have been told it isn't something I can take long term and my eyes are becoming more irritated and puffy and my lips sore are getting worse. I haven't changed any make up lately or products like toothpaste, washing powder.
My 10 year old daughter is in puberty, her pimples and clogged pores on her face is the evidence, lol! My concern is her eyelids have clogged pores or glands few times this year. One time leads to little irritation (itchiness), but warm compress and cold compress get it over in a couple of day. In 2014, she woke up with a swollen eyelid (eye infection on eyelid)! Is the hormone at puberty a factor as she is producing more oil? How to prevent that from happening? Should I have her use diluted baby soap to wash her eyelids daily? Or some OTC eyelid wipes? Or warm compress twice a day? She has been taking a potent omega-3 capsules the past half year, is this increasing the oil production as well? She is moderately myopic, too.
View 2 RepliesSmall but geometric -ish shape. This changes in 1/2 hour or more, the shape gets larger forming a getting larger approximate 'C' shape to the left of center. It is almost like me seeing a crude kaleidoscope . Eventually the thing disappears to the left. The shape seems to be of small triangles squares, anything 'sort of' geometric. I can see past it but still have to see the shape. Whichever eye I close I can still see it; close both I can see it! It has now cleared completely as I have not being looking at the sun or any strong light. Is it 'just one of those things' to be tolerated every now and then. I am 75 and in general good health
View 4 RepliesI'm late 5s,have had floaters since my 20s,back then they were small black or clear dots, fast forward, late fifties, now i've had pvds in both eyes, vitreous gel shrinks and pulls away from the back of the eye,now i have these clear to gauzy larger floaters, plus one large clumpy black one and I can't ignore them anymore. PVD is age related. I am just lucky enough to have these awful larger ones that can blur and obstruct vision. How does a person deal with it. Oh yes I also am starting to have dry eyes. Both also can cause hazy vision. Unless you've experienced it,no one else can relate
View 3 RepliesThe squint(left eye) had been developed at an age of 3 or 4 years I think... A cataract was also developed in it.. It had been ignored by me as I was not able to focus on it while seeing things... Cataract was recently removed(At an age of 18) by a laser treatment... But after the treatment also I had not get my vision back for my left eye (lazy eye).. I'm not able to see with that I now... Can I improve my left eye's vision...? If I can't.. Then how can I correct my eyes appearance... My left eye is little outwards from it's actual direction.
View 2 RepliesMy little girl has been pushing on my nerve since i was 11 weeks. (Now 24wks)
View 3 RepliesI have only been taking it for less than 3 weeks and only managed to get to 300mg a day but the side effects are awful. I have now found out what is causing my nerve pain in back and leg ( my L5S1 disc has collapsed trapping nerves) and GP says that I would need a very high dose of gabapentin to ease this nerve pain so I might as well come off it ( waiting to see neurosurgeon). Today I dropped down to 200mg ( 100mg morning and then I was going to take other one before bed). I would normally have taken another one at 5pm. This evening I have had a bad headache around my eyes. like shooting pains. I have now taken the second 100mg tablet to see if this stops the pains.
My Gp said " oh you can just stop taking it after such a short time" but I said I have read it gives back withdrawal if stopped suddenly and he didn't disagree!
So could the headache be withdrawal?
After no advice from GP I was thinking of dropping to 200mg a day for a week then 100mg a day for a week then 100mg every other day until I stop - does this sound good?
