I had this operation done 18 days ago. To remove the lining from the womb. I am still bleeding. It isn't as heavy as it was before operation. But still like a light to normal period. I suffer with very lower left back pain, this has been worse since I have been bleeding heavy & it is still there. Anyone else had endometrial resection?

View 2 RepliesIm 17 and just lost my virginity on the weekend,not to a boyfriend of any sort,to a friend of a friend.We used a condom and it was perfectly alright.I know that when you have sex for the first time that you bleed a bit afterwards,but that has continued even 2 days onwards.In the morning i wake up with a tiny pain and need to go to the toilet and then it even hurts when i have to pee!I dont want my parents to know that im sexually active now and since you have to pay to go and see your doctor in Ireland everytime,i dont think that i would be able to keep it a secret.What can i do and what is wrong with me?

I had sex exactly a week ago and did not bleed until the day after. The blood is bright red and I've been experiencing a lot of cramping too. I'm in the pill and we used a condom so I know I'm not pregnant and it's not time for me to have my period for another week or so.
And top of the constant bleeding I have past 3 small rubbery blood clots...I know disgusting right? But this has never happened before. What's happening? Did I tear something? Should I go to a doctor or just wait?
Has anyone had this surgery and had a good recovery? If so how long did it take, do you feel normal, and are you restricted at all?

Just for reference, I'm 48 with 2 kids and have never had any health problems of any kind. 71 days ago, I had a fibroid resection by hysteroscopy followed by a Novasure balloon ablation - and haven't had a single day without either spotting or bleeding since. I'm very upset - and am wondering if there are others out there like me? I'd love to hear what kind of followup information you've gotten.
I'll try not to write a novel (knowing me, it'll be close), but here's how it all went down: in December my doc ordered an ultrasound to look into why my periods had gotten heavier over the past couple of years. I didn't bleed for very long (4 days exactly every 28 days) but I bled a lot and it was getting to be sort of worrisome, not to mention inconvenient, and while I was only borderline anemic, I was often tired and got out of breath easily. The ultrasound showed a small, submucosal fibroid (only about 2cm) so my doc referred me to a Seattle hot-shot gynecological oncologist to remove it. Because I have always taken a conservative approach to my healthcare, I asked my doc if I really needed to remove this thing and she proceeded to terrify me with a story about one of her patients whose fibroid had prolapsed and she'd begun to hemorrhage and ended up in the ER, after having nearly bled to death (she'd told me the same sort of horror story when I wanted to try a vbac after my first c-section - needless to say, I went ahead with the second c-section - AND the fibroid removal).
So I went to see this hot-shot. After he explained in detail what he'd be doing to get rid of the fibroid - going in vaginally to re-section with a metal scraper thingy then using a roller-ball to cauterize the site AND my entire uterus, I realized he was describing a second procedure as well... an endometrial ablation. I didn't actually understand this until I was sitting in his "library" (don't all hot-shot docs have Libraries?) waiting for my pre-op instructions from the nurse. I saw those two words: endometrial ablation on the consent form and realized that was the procedure my doc had been trying to get me to do for a couple of years and I'd always declined (in her office, they use the Her Option procedure so I'd not known it by any other name. I'd said no several times over the years. My period's not THAT bad. Like I said, I take a conservative approach. So anyway, here I am realizing the hot-shot (who actually specializes in female cancers, not necessarily fibroid removal and endometrial ablations) has tacked on something I didn't want done, without asking me, without explaining to me, without giving me any literature about it nor briefing me on possible risks or complications. So I called him back into the Library and asked point blank: "Is this something that needs to be done?" and his response: "Well yes, see, we want to go in there and do this now so we don't have to go back in in two years"... Now, I took that to mean this rollerball procedure was necessary for the successful removal of the fibroid and would prevent others from forming in the 4 or so years I have until menopause. So, once again, I fell in line with blind faith and went ahead and let them schedule me for surgery.
The fear was the worst part of the procedure. I'm not that comfortable with hospitals and even the idea of general anesthesia makes me sweat (I'd never been all the way out before) - but all seemed to have gone well because I woke with essentially no pain and no bleeding and laid low for a few days (which I never let myself do so that was a luxury). The only complaint I had at that time was that while I was coming back out of the anesthesia, hot-shot went out to the lobby and told my waiting husband that I was to be on pelvic rest for 4 weeks (news to me) which meant no sex (fine - hey, my husband and I have been married for 18 years, what's 4 weeks?) but also, no riding my horse (not so fine). He'd never mentioned that I'd be grounded from the saddle - my horse and I are in training. It's kind of a big deal to suddenly stop what we've been working toward for a month. I was upset - why the hell didn't he me this BEFORE the surgery (we discussed my equestrian pursuits during the consultation appointment)? But oh well - I scraped together the pennies to pay my trainer to ride my horse while I recovered.
But it was on the 5th day that I began to feel I'd been hoodwinked.
It was an easy day at the barn - no riding, just grooming, bending over to pick hooves and lifting the blanket up to slide it on and off my horse - when I suddenly felt a GUSH. When I checked, I found that I'd just bled about 2 tablespoons worth of pink/red blood. Because I'd been given nothing to read, no handouts, no followup literature or online links to help me know what to expect post-procedure, I called the office to ask if this was normal. The assistant who answered (she was apparently brand new there) decided it was probably that my "sutures" from the fibroid removal had dissolved and sometimes there's a gush of blood after that happens. Not to worry unless I started flooding a pad in the space of an hour. I was only spotting by that time, so I tried not to worry. But from that point on, I started doing my own research and was HORRIFIED to discover SO MANY negative after-effects of this procedure! I felt like kicking myself for not digging deeper beforehand - and mostly, for being so careless with my own body that I put it wholly and completely in someone else's hands, hot-shot or no.
During this research, I discovered that an ablation has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not a fibroid removal is successful. And it certainly doesn't prevent the recurrence of fibroids. I hadn't needed to have this done. I'd gone into this whole thing completely uninformed. I actually wrote hot-shot a letter outlining my dismay at the lack of information I was provided prior to this surgery. I was upset and I let him know it. I let my doc know it, too. After all, she was the one who referred me - and she sent me to him specifically for the removal of the fibroid - NOT for an ablation. But, I figured, hang in there. What's done is done and he said the worst that could happen was that I would still get a period. Since I actually hadn't gone to him intending to get rid of my periods - only to get rid of a fibroid - that didn't seem like a very bad worst-case scenario to me...
Well - it CAN get worse. And it has.
During my follow-up visit at 5 weeks (at which time I was still spotting daily and had already had a post-ablation period - which was about 2/3rds lighter than my pre-ablation periods - still more than any of my friends bleed when notes were compared, but lighter for me), I learned that hot-shot didn't end up using the roller ball after all. He said after he removed the fibroid, my uterus looked so smooth and well-shaped that he used the global method of a Novasure thermal balloon instead. So not only had he not gotten my INFORMED consent to even DO an ablation, he didn't use the technique he'd told me he was going to use. Next - I found out the assistant who took my call on day 5 was mistaken - that gush of blood couldn't have been from sutures dissolving - because I didn't even HAVE sutures! I was starting to have a very bad feeling about this...
And my gut was right. Hot-shot called last week to see how I was doing and I proceeded to tell him that I haven't had a single day since surgery of NO blood (that's 71 days today!!). Some days are worse (like around ovulation when I dump a bunch of brown, mucusy stuff over the course of 5 or 6 days - sorry, TMI - and have to wear tampons to keep from having embarrassing leaks) while about three days a month consist of just a tiny bit of pink or tan on the toilet tissue. Every other day is blood. Pads. Tampons. Using them all.
Turns out, this isn't normal. Surprise surprise. He tells me: "Of all the patients I'd especially want this to work for, it would be you since we sort of got off on the wrong foot." Yeah. No sh*t. Alas - not the case.
Not only did it not "work", but it has made my life worse. Where I bled for 4 heavy days once a month before - and always on schedule - I now never know when a gush is on its way and I have cramps with nausea at least half the month (I didn't have cramps before this. At all.) I wear either a pad or a tampon at all times and sex? We weren't worried about 4 weeks. But 10 weeks is starting to feel like some kind of sentence.
I'm scheduled for an ultrasound in a month to see what's going on. Hot-shot wants me to go through a third post-ablation period first because, as he put it, "if I look into my crystal ball, I really feel this is all going to clear up on its own." But his next guess is this: the balloon didn't properly cauterize the site of the fibroid removal so it is still an open wound and just as it starts to heal, the shedding with my period proceeds to slough off any scab that might have formed. On top of that, the reason I'm still having a period, his words: "sometimes the balloon doesn't reach all the way up to the top of the uterus and some endometrial tissue can be left behind." Really???? Then why the hell use it??? Why didn't he use the roller ball he told me he was going to use? If these turn out to be the reasons for the continued bleeding - guess what? We do a repeat procedure. Hospital again. General anesthesia again. A month off my horse again. $30,000 again. Seriously, this all cost $30,000! We would then be hitting $60,000 - for something that really never needed to be done in the first place. Unbelievable!!! And we wonder why our health care in this country is in such crisis??
The whole thing was not only a bust, but has rendered me a slow-leak mess. I've been keeping a daily diary since day one and I'm exhausted. I'm sick of having to write down every dribble, smear and gush. I'm tired of describing all the different colors. I'm discouraged, depressed and angry. I feel like suing for malpractice. Some hot-shot, huh?
I had an endometrial ablation back in July and bled for over 3 months the consultant put me on ESMYA to stop this. I stopped bleeding after 2 wks of starting the tablets which was mid October however over a week ago I started bleeding again. I am not sure whether it is a normal lighter period or whether I am going to go back to constantly bleeding again. Is anyone else on ESMYA and having similar symptoms?
View 4 RepliesI posted the other day about something more specific, riding my bicycle, but today am just more curious about recovery times. It's been 6 weeks since my vasectomy and I'm still not better. I seem to take 2 steps forward, 1.75 steps backwards. My wife wants me to remain optimistic..."Some people just recover slower than others", I however am VERY worried that the pain could be with me for the rest of my life. How optimistic/pessimistic should I be? It's difficult to find good info about vasectomy recovery on the internet. How long has it taken some of you or someone you know to heal completely?
View 4 RepliesI thought I would write something about this (highly out of character), as when I did it (in an effort to find some comfort and provide my rugby club with information as to when I would be fit again) I searched the internet for all the articles I could, and it was in this minefield that I encountered, from miracle healers to those reoccurring 2 year problems, and as such my mind was boggled. Doctors also provide some guidelines on what is normal to be off crutches but after that recovery rates varied due to ages and previous physical nature of the participants, so whilst this is by no means a complete list, it may offer some help to those who are physically active and still relatively young (sorry).
So to give you my information, I am 25 y/o, male, play rugby to a reasonable standard, cycle 100km plus a week, as well as gyming or some kind of training most days (so needless to say I normally tick the extremely active box).
Previously I had not had any injuries to my feet, and it was just a freak occurrence due to the weight of several men going through it whilst being tackled, the break was fortunate enough to be closed fractures, but still it bloody hurt.
I did this on the 24th January 2016, and was in a soft shell boot for four weeks, at week two I got back in the gym but was very limited on what I could do - machines only (free weights were impossible as I could not lift these without putting pressure through my foot). At the beginning of week 5 I got rid of the boot yet continued using crutches for another 2 weeks. At the start of week 7 I could finally walk again (albeit with a heavy limp), however I did manage to get back on my bike (solid sole - clip in shoes), at the start of week 8 I was squatting with light weight, walking with a slight limp, though many gym exercises were still difficult, at the start of week 9, most gym exercises were becoming easier and getting more weight on them, in week 10 I decided I was close to being able to jog - not the case and got quite a bit of pain going through it, however I am confident my foots resistance will build up over the week.
Anyway I thought I’d write this now, as once I am fit again I will forget all about the injury, and so probably would not write this and be of any help to anyone. So it will get better, just it does take time, finally over the last few days I looked up more information on general bone healing; this states around 3-4months and I believe this to be more accurate for these recoveries than anything I read on forums.
I am early on after my discectomy (day 3), but I am concerned. I see many people have immediate pain reduction, I woke up and still had my preop pain. Now it's just pain deep in my thigh and the surgical pain. I am also worried because I still can't stand up straight! I haven't been able to stand straight for two months following a car accident that reherniated my l5s1. The original injury was resolved to an acceptable level without surgery. It was interesting that the car accident immediately stopped all nerve pain in my right leg that I learned to live with, but it moved to the left leg!
I am just getting concerned since I see so many posts where people wake up painless and can walk freely. I can walk for maybe 2 minutes then i am in really bad pain, and i'm hunched over while walking. Should I be concerned? Any insights from people with less than storybook recoveries?
I considering getting both my bunions removed. I was wondering because I work full time as a cake decorator, (constant walking),how realistic is it going back to work after surgery 8 weeks later?
View 4 RepliesI'm 25 years old and had been living with stage II internal hemorrhoids for about 4 years now, and with a prolapsed thrombosed from one for about six months. It got seriously painful about three weeks ago and I couldn't sit down or do regular daily activities anymore. So I decided to visit a private clinic where they suggested the DG-HAL surgical procedure saying it was "non-invasive" and that they would surgically remove the thrombosis as well. Fast forward, I had the procedure done this Wednesday and they said "Oh yeah it's a fast recovery, we do it on Wednesdays and Thursdays so that people can get back to their jobs by Monday"..so here I am, Sunday 4.45 A.M., haven't slept since the surgery, and I just don't feel like stuff is healing. I have no appetite but am forcing myself to eat more small meals and drink plenty of water and fiber and oil supplements to make the BM pass better. So my concerns are the following: it's already the fourth day and i feel more pain, and have the feeling like by bowels are full and trying to rip out of my torso. I'm taking antibiotics as well as ketoprofen painkillers every 6 hours or so because It's just to unbearable. I have the urge to visit the toilet very frequently but when I try to push something out only small traces come out (it is soft and without blood though). It hurts like hell after I pass gas or a BM, the cut out thromb takes up most of the pain. When I try to go to sleep, as soon as I begin to doze off a spasm contracts in my rectum and the throat starts hurting like hell and it wakes me up. They say the method takes about 3-4 days to recovery, but as you can see I call baloney on that. So if anyone has had a similar experience can you tell me if this is normal and if it isn't what should I do about it? I have a written exam on Monday and I want to be functional to take it.

View 6 RepliesI am going to be scheduled for an L5/S1 (ALIF) fusion surgery. While I am in significant amounts of pain, I am nervous about the recovery for this procedure. I would like to think that I have a high tolerance of pain but I am very nervous about this procedure. How long is the typical recovery time and how bad is the post-op pain? I am having a difficult time deciding when to have my surgery because I don't know how long to expect to be incapacitated.

View 1 RepliesI had a laminectomy with removal of a synovial cyst exactly 17 days now and feel wonderful. Last weeks follow up visit actually was an eye opener because i found out I was doing too much, like bending for example, and I am really suppose to take it easy so the scar tissue can form a strong bond.
My cyst was large and sitting on the nerve root. As soon as it was removed the compressed nerve popped right back up, all good news.
I am wondering how soon before i can start doing other things besides resting and walking. I understand the golf is not happening for at least another 6 weeks and that's ok, but can I swim or when can i ride a bike?
I have basically no pain aside from a little muscle spasms.
I had UC for 15 yes and had a j pouch for 13 years. It never really worked well and ended up requesting my surgeon to let me go back to a stomach. 2 weeks ago I had the pouch and rectum completely removed, yes it was painful but am off pain killers now and have started walking around the block and a bit further everyday. I am really pleased with my stoma now, it has been the best thing I have ever done, no pain, no rushing for the loo. I can sleep, I have never slept so much. What I want to know is when can I start doing things, you know like lifting the kettle for starters! I haven't been given specific exercises or instructions on when I can do what. I want to get back to normal family, you life with husband and kids, what is everyone else's experience. I have looked on line but tend to end up on sites selling stoma products which aren't really helpful.
View 24 RepliesI'm 20 and im coming closer and closer to getting neurosurgery to remove a cavernoma, its at the left just sitting on the top of my brain, the side effect from it is epilepsy (my left cheek goes tingly..that's all)and that's stopping me from being able to drive, which costs me jobs and frustrates me a lot since my neurologist found out what it was weeks before my driving test so i never even got to pass!the other problem is it could burst and then id be dead...Yay.So were looking at the neurosurgery, i was just wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following questions:
how long will general recovery take? i.e. how long will i be in hospital for? and how long before i will feel normal again?
how long before you can drive after brain surgery? as my aunt got a tumor removed and she has to wait a year.
what are most common side effects after that kind of surgery?
how big a dent will i have in my head after? the thing there taking out is like insanely small, like quarter of your thumb nail size.
obviously its dangerous but is there much chance of anything going bad or are these ops a pretty standard thing nowadays ?
and can it come back? i don't know if that would depend on what they're removing?
Hallux Rigidus on both big toes . Surgery is to consist of bone spurs removed and then the existing flap of cartilage will be placed in the space left from deteriorating joints ... My question is this: the doctor and nurses said 4 weeks recovery . I am an independent home assistant which means along with vacuuming, dusting, beds, bathrooms I rearrange furniture and hang pictures, organizing etc... Being self employed and this being my only source of income I very concerned on the REALISTIC HEALING TIME
View 1 RepliesI broke my heel 54 days ago, felling down from 2nd floor. I am really nervous & worried about... Doctor told me you need to keep cast for 60 days (or 8 weeks) 2 weeks ago I had 2nd x-ray, it was 40th day of fracture... I smoke, as you know it makes bone recovery period longer....On my X-ray heel didn't look like recovered....bones were darker color, fracture place still lighter, but doctor said its fine & you can put weight on that foot and come back after 2 weeks, we will take off cast and put on some kinda fixing boot. However, neither 2 weeks ago, not now I can put weight on it. It hurts so bad....I don't know what to do, do what doctor says, or listen my pain? I want to know if its normal to feel such bad pain whilst doctor say your bone is okay? and how come it's okay, if on my X-ray even I can see its not okay.
View 14 Repliesi am having a posterior lumbar 4-5 laminectomy with synovial cyst removal on August 27,2015. I have a 5 day trip to Germany planned 6 &1/2 weeks later.
I now know the recovery to be longer than the one week I had thought. I know it is at least 6 weeks, after my pre surgery intake with the wonderful nurse I have. Does anyone have feedback about a 8 hour plane ride to Europe with only 6 weeks recovery time? Thanks
