Dermatology :: Shave Excision On Face Mole Didn't Go As Expected
Apr 28, 2015
I've had a brown fairly flat mole on my left cheek since as far back as I can remember. It started to annoy me so I decided to get it removed. I saw a dermatologist who said a shave excision might not work but he would give it a go.
Everything has healed now but I am left with a small 'crater' where the cut was made but the coloring of the mole is still there. If anything, it looks worse than before. I'd really like to get rid of this.. what are my options?
I've attached 2 images of how it looks from the side and also front-on (which shows how it caves in now). I know it's not a huge thing and is purely cosmetic.

Is is necessary to shave your hair for a surgical excision mole removal on the scalp? I'm a 29 year old female with long hair and my dermatologist says she must shave off a section of my hair so hair doesn't grow into the wound. The mole is about the size of an eraser and located near the crown of my head.
I'm very worried about the aesthetic result. Is this usually necessary or should I get an opinion from another doctor? I really don't want to lose my hair. Also, is it likely that the mole removal itself will leave a bald patch?

I'm a 23 year old female with light skin. I have had this mole on my lower back for many years and it has always been slightly raised. Upon examining it recently after not looking at it for many years I feel it might be more raised then it was before. Its about 5-6mm in diameter, does not itch or bleed or anything. I'm not entirely sure if its changed but I think it might have. Is it possible for a mole to grow naturally? Should I be concerned about this, could it be nodular melanoma? I read nodular melanoma occurs in a new skin growth 97% of the time I'm not sure if this was true. I have a picture posted....

I had this benign smooth small-ish bump on my nose for around two years, then around october time last year my nose got very dry and it kind of scraped/came off. It bled a little but it didn't seem to be full of blood, maybe just a clear fluid. It never bothered me up until it came off. I was really happy because i thought it had gone. But then it started to come back. it came back even WORSE! it got very red, formed an uneven texture and still hasn't disappeared and we are in March. I have been to a doctor, who prescribed me acne medication, which just irritated it. Then i visited a dermatologist who told me i could have a shave biopsy. Its not cancerous which is good. But i am very very self concious about it. It is not a raised red , uneven bump on my nose. If you apply pressure it will stay down for 5 seconds until it comes back again.
I have been weighing up whether i want to go ahead and have a shave biopsy, i am worried about it scarring badly. It isn't very big, it is about 4mm/5mm, but it still is very obvious ( especially to me ). How long do shave biopsies take to heal? could it come back after the biopsy? and how long after the shave biopsy would i have to wait before wearing makeup?

I have two options: Ellipse Excision (most invasive) and Curettage and Electrodesiccation (least invasive). Derm says with C and D she is not able to tell me if after the surgery all basal cell carcinoma are removed as there is no pathology testing. I'm nervous thinking about what I want the most. Has anyone on the Cancer board had either of these two surgeries. If so, which one was most successful?

I am considering a vasectomy, and according to the medical literature (see links to citations below), the recommended methods for vas occlusion are cautery and/or fascial interposition (preferably both methods).
However, I have consulted with two local urologists, and neither of them use either of these techniques. Instead, both simply do an excision and ligation, and one of them takes an additional step of folding back and suturing the ends of the vas deferens. Both physicians have very good credentials and are highly experienced.
Is it unusual for urologists (in the U.S.) to perform only excision and ligation without any cautery or fascial interposition, or is excision and ligation still commonplace and considered good practice? Is it important to perform cautery and/or fascial interposition, and should I therefore continue to look for a urologist who performs one or both of those techniques?
Note, I am particularly concerned about long-term recanalization (i.e., a year or more after the procedure). I know the rates of late recanalization are generally assumed to be low, but as I understand it, the true rate is difficult to ascertain due to a lack of systematic long-term follow-up.

I'm 40, and was born with ACF. As I age? My face twists more. My neck muscles are obviously larger on my right side, and now my neck aches from constant strain. My parents always said it was no big deal. Any help? I don't know where to go, I'm not sure my Dr. has ever heard of it.

I have noticed that I have a mole on my putter labia. I noticed it about 6 months ago. Never thought anything about it til now. I noticed that it made a V shape. It is dark brown. The size of a normal mole. It is also flat. No strange border yet. I'm just very concerned about the the V shape of it.

I have noticed this mole getting bumpier over the past few months. Could anybody who has been diagnosed with melanoma give their opinion? I understand that only a dermatologist can make a proper diagnosis, but I would appreciate any feedback.
ps: I am a 24 year old Caucasian female.

A few years ago I noticed 3 relatively small moles on my pubic area and didn't think much of it. But it grew much bigger and there are another 2 new moles in that area. I'm worried that it could be melanoma as the size is rather big and it's black but I'm too embarrassed to go to a doctor because the mole is at my inner vagina lip while the other 4 are beside the anus. I'm so worried, please can any doctor here help to see if this seem like melanoma, from the pictures attached?

I am a girl, I have blonde hair, blue eyes, and my skin isn't pale but more "golden" colored. I generally tan pretty well in the sun and usually only get burned on my face and shoulders. I have never used a tanning bed before. however, I have a mole that's about a centimeter away from where my arm pit meets my chest that's concerning. It's much larger and darker than my other moles, it's a little bigger than a pencil eraser and is very dark brown and a teeny bit raised. The edges are chestnut colored and a little blurry, but it is still shaped like a circle (symmetrical). I am noticing it more often now than it the past, which makes me wonder if it has grown. I would get it looked at by a doctor, however the mole has always been covered by a swimsuit and to my knowledge, has never seen the sunlight. Does this mean that it couldn't be skin cancer?

I have been having this for a while, not really sure when it came about considering I don't look down there too often. Thought it was normal until I took sex ed and saw that girls do not have this. It will sometimes irritate me and itch. I am a virgin, and its highly unlikely this is an STD. I know moles are associated with cancer, and I'm kind of freaking myself out.

My pee smells like asparagus but didn't eat any, can something you eat cause this besides asparagus?
About two weeks ago, I noticed a pain in my back together with the asparagus smell, I took an antibiotic for a few days, the pain cleared within a day but the asparagus smell did not clear.
Two years ago my pee smelled like asparagus too and since I was convalescent from a physical injury and had antibiotics I took them and the smell cleared. Am a celibate person with clean health habits so it could not be an std, and I don't have any of the symptoms of a uti. Can something you eat besides asparagus cause this?

Basically in april 2015 i went to consultant for pile treatment, he advised me to have them treated by injection, i went ahead with this procedure, for a week i was fine then i noticed the itching and pile/pain had returned went back to my consultant he told me he thinks it was a fissure and to take creams and come back to him in 3 weeks time for further consultation.
alas 2 weeks later i was in severe pain and discomfort and phoned the consultants office that i was in bad pain and was told the consultant was on holidays and would not be back for a further week!
at this stage i was told by my doctor to attend hospital a+e for emergency
treatment ,this i did and was told to present myself at the hospital fasting from night before to see a new consultant---Phew it gets worse!
arrived at the hospital new consultant in fairness said he would put me under a full GA and see what is going on there
the following morning he told me yes indeed the piles were back there was one internal and one external and that i was better off going for the laser treatment called THD, which i booked in for the following week this was at this stage mid may had the procedure and for 2 weeks felt great
however on the third week i was in severe pain in the anal area and knew something was wrong (bearing in mind i was told the THD procedure has a 90%success rate..presented myself back to the consultant in hospital had to go under a full ga again he told me afterwards that the procedure had not worked for me for fu..s sake i was one of the 10% that it did not work for so i was booked in for the following week to have the piles which i was now told one of them was thrombosed removed by surgery so have had this done in mid june and have been in terrible pain since, especially after bm to the point where all i could do is sit/lie in the house all day taking pain killers stool softeners and baths every day. every time i phoned the consultant i was told it takes time to heal so after 7 weeks of severe pain id had enough, i went to my doctor got a letter of him to see the consultant urgently as i was in severe pain meet with the consultant am now booked in again for early next week this is what he said the wound is healing however it is a time thing, he will have a further look at me to see if there is something else causing this awful pain he said there is no fissure but wants to give me a botox injection in the anal area to help with the healing, can anyone please advise with this as i do not want to get any worse pain than i am in presently sorry for the long rant but this is actually what happened to me it has changed my life whereby in the last 6 months being in terrible pain and discomfort and am now wary about this botox injection

I've had worms since last September which is almost 7 months. The worms are white and small. I've take ovex about 10-15 times in the past 6 months. I've taken pripsen about 4 times. Neither have worked.
My nose has been itching and really bad itching anus which is depressing me. Could this be anything other than threadworms(which I've sent a stool sample and sticky tape test off and all come back negative).

I am healthy non smoking 65 year old, very active physically and overall healthy. I had the urolift procedure done May 23 2015 at which time the surgeon installed 5 clips. Prior to surgery I was on 8 mg of flomax which made it possible for me to urinate.I did wear a catheter bag for awhile then. After surgery I was on 4mg of flomax for approx. 1 month. I was able to urinate adequately for about 8 weeks. Never but once what you would consider a flow. At about the 9th week I started slowing down again until it got to the point (about 11 weeks) where it took me 8 minutes to start peeing and then it took two more times in the next half hour to finally eliminate somewhat completely. Now in the 14th week of post op I'm on 8mg of flomax right back where I was before surgery.I am now considering what options are available to me now.
