Dermatitis / Eczema :: Getting Itchy During Exercise
Jan 20, 2014
I have full body atopic eczema, i see a dermatologist frequently and i'm now on 200 mg of cyclosporine per day. It has really helped- but i still have a bit on my top lip (not lip lickers) and on my arms, its still a military operation with emollients and things but getting there.
I gave up the gym a while ago as my eczema was so bad but recently i've been wanting to get back into exercise. I've been doing it at home to control the symptoms but now i have bad patches all on the inside of my elbow. Does anyone have any ideas of how i can control this? I wear cotton clothing all the time- if i exercise its in sleeveless tops and shower straight after, emollients etc. my exercises only last for about 30 mins at the moment so its not too intense, can anyone recommend what i can do to stop/control this? i'm thinking of asking my gp for some dermacool to help with the itching and heat but if i want to exercise daily for my health then this is going to get out of control. any ideas?!

I am looking for help with my itchy red rash. I posted under “Could this be scabies” a couple weeks ago. I am at my wit’s end. I went to urgent care about six weeks ago as I could not get in to see my doctor. He never got out of his chair to look at it closely and told me it was dry skin and gave me a topical cream to put on it. A week later I went to my doctor. She looked at it closely and said it did not look like anything contagious and gave me prednisone for ten days. Everything cleared up and I felt great. At that time I had rashes under one breast, one on back at a hard to reach area and a couple on my stomach line. They all went away. After being off prednisone for about a week they started coming back in other places. I saw a dermatologist and he looked at me with a lighted magnifying glass. He said it was dermatitis and prescribed betamethasone. The cream makes the spots go away over a period of days and the itching stops or lets up. But I keep getting new ones. I now have spots along underwear line that looks like little bites here and there and some larger. Also have a rash on the back of my neck that is just a lot of redness and itchiness with a couple bumps. My skin is so sensitive to the touch in those areas. Interesting thing is they are almost all on one side of my body and rarely go past the middle of the body no matter where they are. They also bother me during the day when my clothes and seams rub them, but when I go home at night and relax and put sweat pants on and a t-shirt the itching will subside some. I don’t have itching at night in bed but may wake up with a couple more spots. My husband has not had any itching at all this whole time. I have never had skin problems. Does this sound like dermatitis? I see the doctor in four weeks and he wants me to not use the cream on three areas so he can biopsy it to confirm dermatitis.

I have suffered from atopic dermatitis for 27 years now. I am at my wits end and wanting to see what is causing it, i had a allergy test. This came back with many items, water, yeast, lactose, etc etc, But one thing that came up was liquid paraffin.
All my creams and shower oils have this in, i have looked high and low but cannot find anything as the market seems to favour this in everything they make for eczema sufferers.
Im wanting to avoid all the necessaries, SLS, fragrance etc but when i can avoid these, i cannot avoid paraffin in these. Can anyone recommend anything, or have they come across the same issue?

About 5 weeks ago i developed really severe athletes foot - now not ever having athletes foot before this was really shocking to me. The doctor prescribed Canesten HC cream and erythromycin - as i am allergic to penicillin and it is now beginning to feel normal again. The problem is now that i seem to have developed the same as what was on my foot on my right hand. I went back to the doctors and he gave me Fucibet cream and told me to continue to take the erythromycin - but i've only been able to take 2 of these a day rather than the prescribed 4 as they were making the side of my face burn. The condition has just been getting worse and worse and when i went back to the doctors the beginning of the week she told me to keep using the cream, prescribed another lot of erythromycin and some dermal hand wash/moisturizer cream and suggested i wear a cotton glove to bed. The doctors haven't diagnosed it as Pompholyx Eczema but after extensive research on the internet this is what i'm 99% sure it is. I have got a few blisters developing on my other hand and am absolutely terrified it's going to spread like wild-fire. The blisters on my right hand are all over my fingers, palm and beginning to go to the base of my wrist and between my thumb and finger towards the back of my hand. The ones on my palm seem to be merging together and are quite pus filled. My other problem is that after applying the Fucibet cream is does look really red and angry, my fingers seem to swell a bit more and is drawing liquid out. Is this a good thing or is it as i suspect and that is i am allergic to the Fucibet cream?

I read on the internet that soy fabric is good for those with skin allergies - are there any 'fashionable' brands out there which supply soy clothing? Im interested to see if it works!

I'm a 20 year old university student struggling to cope with the constant pain and irritation of my eczema.
I get it all over my arms, armpits, neck, chest, the back of my legs and my wrists. Its scabby, sore and irresistible to scratch at. I have on too many occasions scratched it until i bleed but i really cant help it. I have had severe eczema all my life but in the past two years, it has really started to get me down. I have applied prescribed steroid creams, Hydrocortisone, E45, Doublebase.. showered and bathed in prescribed shower and bath gels and swallowed countless anti-histamine tablets in the hope of them taking away the itch and the urge to scratch.
I'm writing this as i am so fed up, just like the millions of others suffering from eczema out there, and hope that one of you out there can help me, or atleast give me some tips to reduce the irritation.
Currently i am applying Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion after i shower. It does reduce the itch and calm my skin, but the redness and dryness returns when the cream is absorbed or whenever i start to sweat. I can't partake in exercise or sporting activities as i am scared, actual fear, of how itchy and sore my whole body becomes.
As i sit here repeatedly itching up and down my arms i'm hoping there is someone out there who can give me some advice, i've had enough of being embarrassed and fed up of my skin.

A large number of individual and now merging spots/lesions over face ears, hair, ankles and arms. They are terribly itchy and have tried all sorts of creams etc. Gp says its scabies, have had medication for it, definately not as keeps recurring. I cannot go out, have been to a dermatologist who gave me pills which actually made me hallucinate and feel very ill?

My face is dry, red, flaky, itchy, and peeling but only on the right side. I work in a warehouse and was very sweaty this past week so I wiped my face off with a towel during the day, possibly further irritating and drying out my face. I also have purple pimple like bumps on my face but again, only on the right side.

I've had the same condition on my left large toe for the past 3+ years now. It's extremely itchy, and bubbles up, and the skin then becomes soft and peels off, exposing the layers beneath. It then hardens again and repeats the process. There's a correlation with hotter weather and it becoming worse.
I've had it for a long time now but it's never spread anywhere else. However the list of creams I've been prescribed don't seem to do the job. I've included 3 very recent photographs. Anyone have any idea if this is an eczema or some type of fungus? The opinion seems to change doctor by doctor. Some say eczema, some say fungus!

I've just been diagnosed with a suspected case of perioral dermatitis (a rash around the mouth, including under/around the nose a.k.a POD) and have been prescribed 2 months worth of oxytetracycline tablets, 4 a day. i notice it had helped a lot of people suffering with acne, but i was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and/or been given these drugs...did they work for you?
it's such a depressing thing to suffer with, i've had it for around 5 months (on and off)...i was given a steroid cream at first which helped a bit but then made it ten times worse. i was then given ketoconazole cream (for yeast/bacterial infections) which got rid of around 95% of problem...ofcourse, at the time no-one had mentioned POD so i continued to use make-up which has now flared the rash once again. tried the cream again but this time it hasn't worked. after seeing yet another doctor, she said it could be POD and like i said, has given me oxytetracycline and said i won't see an improvement for around 4 weeks. sofar, taken the tablets for just over a week....and it seems to get better, then get worse....i don't know where i'm going wrong as i've made life-style changes to hopefully get it better (e.g. changing to a non-fluoride toothpaste, wearing oil+colour+perfume free moisturizer and sacrificing make-up all together!)

I've had this sore on my inner thigh groin area that will. not. heal. I have seen 2 doctors and a dermatologist. No infection. No MRSA. It's just a sore that's about an inch 1/2 long and a 1/2 inch wide. You can feel all the scar tissue underneath and when it gets irritated it swells up. Then hurts. Then drains puss and blood. Then starts the process over. I've been on 4 different antibiotics (which I don't understand since there's no infection) they've put me on hormones (birth control) to see if that's what is causing it. It's this gross purple scar and it hurts and it won't heal. This has been going on for almost exactly a year! A whole year!!!! Doctor's have no idea what it is so my dermatologist diagnosed it as chronic dermatitis.

When I was a baby I suffered with very bad eczema, then when I was approximately 12/13 my eczema came back on my face along with bad acne, to clear up my eczema I used Aqueous Cream as well as Hydrocortisone Cream which worked and I also used Zineryt on my acne which eventually worked and my skin was back clear apart from the occasional hormonal spot every now and then which didn't bother me.
I am now 17 and towards the end of January this year I noticed my eczema was coming back as well as comedones so I visited the doctor about my eczema and was given Diprobase which I applied to my body and face 1/2 times day. I thought if I continued to use my Zineryt it would eventually clear up the comedones, which it didn't. Eventually the comedones also spread to my cheeks and my chin and now they flare up into painful spots and my face is now covered making me very insecure about my skin!
I re-visited a different doctor around 5 weeks ago and have been put on 1 a day Tetralysal antibiotics which haven't made the slightest improvement and my spots are still continuing to worsen and increase.
I have also been on the Cerazette birth control pill for around a year now I was wondering if this could be causing hormonal changes that have triggered my acne despite being on it so long?
If not I was wondering if the Diprobase/Aqueous cream could be causing my acne? (I stopped using this on my face 2 days ago incase but have still gained more painful spots and my skin is also becoming dry again)
I would like to know your opinion on what is causing my acne? What I can do to treat it? And how long it will it take to get back to a bearable state?

I do a lot of swimming and can't find a decent remedy or barrier for eczema. To be honest I control it pretty well but it flares up to the extent that it is incredibly uncomfortable and it is always the next day after I have been swimming. I then end up taking an antihistamine which makes me drowsy and then has an affect on my training (doing an ironman) for the days that follow. Can anyone recommend anything?

i've got eczema on my face, it looks like little spots all over my forehead, my doctor prescribed me with cream to make it go away, but it's not doing anything. What could I use to make it go away? I'm looking at aloe Vera gel as a few people have mentioned that to help.

I've have vitiligo for years and always had dry skin with occasional eczema spots on my body. I also have pityriasis rosea on my side for years which finally cleared with antifungals.
Last summer I started to get blepharitis under my eyes but I thought it was just a one-off or due to a couple stressful events in my life.
The blepharitis did start a few weeks after I started visiting a dog at a pet store in short 20 min intervals a couple times a week until finally purchasing her. I never noticed I had any allergic reaction to the dog when I'm in her presence. No sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, itchy skin, etc.
I later purchased the pup and my blepharitis continued to get much worse and it eventually spread to other parts of my face and my entire body started getting more eczema spots. It then became very widespread.
I am able to control the symptoms with steroids and Elidel but I'm trying to get to the root of it.
I realize it may sound like it's definitely the dog, and it certainly may be, but I don't notice that when I'm interacting with the dog that I'm itchy or anything.
Before I consider giving the dog to family, I want to understand if it's possible it's something else.
If you do believe it's my pup, are there any options besides ridding myself of my dog -- (I already bathe her, vacuum, etc).
