Depression :: Stopping Sertraline Suddenly - On Low Dose Currently
Jun 24, 2015
I'd been taking 25mg of Sertraline every day for two years for depression. My doctor and I were planning to try to wean me off this summer. But I moved, and so I found a new doctor. However, this one wanted to keep me on the meds and increased my dose. I've been taking 50mg once a day for about two months. But now the new doctor wants me to switch to Wellbutrin. He says I can stop the Sertraline immediately and switch over because I'm on such a low dose. But I'm wondering if that's a good idea. My original doctor had wanted to wean me off the 25mg, and I've noticed that I get really weepy if I miss a dose accidentally.

I've been taking propranolol since the end of March - just 10 mg per day and then I've been taking 50mg sertraline per day for 3 weeks. I had been complaining of awful neck pains and general muscle aches but today, I forgot to take my propranolol and the aches and pains haven't been there. Has anyone else stopped taking propranolol suddenly? Can this have a bad reaction as I was on such a low dose?
I have been getting hot/warm sensations inside around my chest and different parts of my body for the past couple of days also, is this a part of the sertraline effects?

I have suffered from depression and anxiety for years (about 8 in total since my early 20's) but only recently sought help from my GP when I started having 2 or 3 panic attacks a day.
I was prescribed Sertraline 25 mg daily and Propranolol 80 mg daily (40 mg in the morning and 40 mg in the evening). After one week the Sertraline was increased to 50 mg daily. 3 weeks on and today I have been upped to 100mg daily.
I had bad side effects when starting on the 25 mg (increased depression, increased anxiety, headaches, nausea and diarrhea) but these past after the first 4 or 5 days. When I was increased to 50 mg they came back, albeit more mildly and past after the 3rd or 4th day.
I am apprehensive about increasing the dosage again now as I have to travel a lot this weekend for a large family engagement. I am worried that I may start having panic attacks again as I settle into the higher dose and I am wondering whether to stay on 50 mg with the Propranolol over the weekend and up the dosage on Monday when I am home and have a few days to relax and can ride out any side effects.

I have been on Sertraline 50mg for 6 weeks, I saw my therapist and she asked how I felt, I told her I did not feel any different, she contacted my Dr. and the Dr. upped my dose to 200mg, this has frightened me, a leap from 50mg to 200mg, has anyone had this outcome, and what were the pro's and con's of this sudden higher dose.

I had some terrible problems last november stopping venlafaxine to start sertraline. I realised I have tried over 6 different meds and have decided to get back to the start and take none. I have been to a doctor today who was not very helpful and as I have never been given the right advice about cross tapering I am not confident about stopping. I started with 50mg, 1 december 2014, in mid January increased to 100mg and to be honest things are worse in the way I feel. No libido (I am a happily married 46 year old woman who used to enjoy my husbands attention), No motivation, No sense of enjoyment in anything, overeating, overspending and little or no self worth. I have been told stop 100mg and take 50mg for 4 weeks and then review. I am thinking maybe 75mg for a week, then 50mg for a week, then 25mg for a week then nothing.... Any ideas? I have been on one antidepressant or another since 2009.

After several years of on-off depression and anxiety I finally decided to try medication.
I started on 50mg Sertraline about 8 weeks ago. After a few days of horrible physical side effects I started to feel great. But in the last week I have started to feel not-so-great again. This could be due to a week away where I consumed a fair bit of alcohol and cannabis (after being very sensible since starting the Sertraline).
I'm thinking of asking my doctor to up the dose to 100mg.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced Sertraline "wearing off" after a few months, or being affected by alcohol?

I was on Zoloft 25 mg for 2 years. My doctor decided to wean me off. I went into withdrawal. Within a week of being off of it I went back on 12.5 only for a week. Then I went up to 25 again. Been on 25 for 4 weeks now. All the side effects of the start up have gone.
I find myself getting very dizzy every 2 hours. I was told low sugar is a side effect of Zoloft and that I should graze. Eat 3 meals with snacks in between. I'm eating and I'm not hungry which is so annoying.
I just left the doctor. She has no idea what could be causing this. She wants to increase my dose from 25 to 37.5 (25 mg with a half of a 25mg).
I wanted to hear from others whom may have experienced this before going back up. Increasing doses scare me.

I'm about to increase my sertraline dosage. The side effects in the first few weeks when I started were pretty bad and I felt really rough at times, mainly with nausea, dizziness etc. I was wondering: will this happen again on increasing the dosage? Or should it be OK now my body is used to the drug? If it's likely I'll get some side effects, how long are they likely to last and how bad might they be?

I just wanted to quickly share that since reducing from 100mg to 75mg, even in the short space of 3-4 weeks that I've already noticed a surge in my libido.

this was my 4th time throughout my life on zoloft and I have never had such wicked side effects. I started taking it because I thought maybe the dizzy spells and lack of motivation in my life might help with zoloft but I was so wrong. My doctor agreed the side effects weren't good so I stopped after only 6 doses. One week later after stopping it I still have so much anxiety and depression. Can anyone tell me how long will it take to return to normal or if I should have screwed something up in my head and should take another drug now?

Is anyone else stuck on such a small dose of suboxone. It's probably smaller than a sesame a seed. Still withdraw symptoms. If I don't take it 2 days I feel like I'm gonna jump out of my skin. Plus I already feel so weak tired and sneezing depression etc

Hi all. I'm on day 14 of Zoloft. I was put on it for anxiety & I would feel depressed the odd time. Iv noticed while I no longer feel anxious I feel depressed instead. I'm hoping this will lift as it's still very early days & maybe I'm still having side effects.

I have gained a stone since taking sertraline. This is quite depressing in itself. My diet hadn't changed and I've never done as much exercise as I'm doing now!
What I'd like to know is has anyone else gained weight whilst taking sertraline?
Has anyone gained and been able to lose weight whilst still on sertraline?
I am currently weaning off it slowly but envisage I'll be on it until the end of Sep. Currently on 25mg from 50mg a day.

I have been suffering for some years during the winter time with anxiety and depression. I have been on and off meds for 4 years now. I always seem to have to go back on them when the winter comes. I would stay on them, but I was trying to get pregnant so I went off. Well its been a tough time for me lately and decided to put trying on hold to help myself. I started 50mgs of zoloft 13 days ago. Haven't really felt any relief...my therapist says I should feel better after 2 and maybe meds aren't right for me. I kind of think I need to wait at least up to 4 weeks. I have terrible anxiety all day with physical symptoms. I push through my day because its the right thing to do. I eat, workout, go to work, but just not enjoying it because I feel "weird". Hoping I will feel better soon....this worrying about worrying is starting to make me mad!! Help anyone else have a similar story or hope?

i had an assessment after struggling with depression and anxiety for yrs , finally went back on ADs just before xmas, after trying sertraline , mirtazapine i'm now on venlafaxine , over the last 6 weeks it's increased to 225mg. My assessment came out with a high score in the range of severe depression and anxiety . I have previously had time off work due to this , however i'm doing my best to stay at work as i'm only p/t and work with some fab ppl . However i feel like everything is getting too much again , i had gp last wk and i just said all was ok , it wasn't but my child was in the room so couldn't speak , Also had my first cbt session today a ' panic workshop ' one , even with them discussing panic attacks makes me feel edgy and haven't been able to shake the feeling off since , i feel like i'm fighting a losing battle and just cant cope. So much has gone on recently , 7yr relationship breakdown / ended . Problems with child behavior , time off work last yr for an op that didn't go to plan ( should of been day surgery - 3 days in hospital , 7.5 wks off work ) moving house , family disagreements ( not to do with me but get dragged in ) Just so much - i don't know what to do , i feel like a whinge if i go back to gp again.

In Ukraine, the dog has bitten me. At the end of treatment, 6 doses of rabies vaccine is recommended in the report. They make 4 dose in Ukraine and I come to my home (Istanbul) and 5. dose is finished. But total five doses of vaccine are made in Turkey. I do not understand why they want to dose 6. I have a healthy body. 6. dose is important? OR optional?

I've had the mirena coil for just under 2 years. After the initial bleeding my periods more or less stopped I just had the odd light period every few months or so. However, the last 2 month my hormones have been all over the show. Some things are TMI to say on here but I had a light period for about 3 days and then 2 weeks later I came on again and it's now day 9 or 10 of bleeding, it is only light but my boobs have been sore for weeks and there's no signs of it stopping. My coil is still in place so no worries about it being dislodged. I was just wondering if anyone else had been fine with the mirena and then suddenly having crazy hormones and bleeding etc.
