I had a lower molar extracted 9 days ago & was wondering if spicy foods can dissolve the blood clot & result in dry socket? I obsessively check the extraction site & the clot is still there (even though it doesn't look as dark but maybe that's my paranoia) & if you do get dry socket does the pain happen right away or take a day or 2 before the pain starts? I ate BBQ chicken that was a little spicy & was worried I might dissolve the clot. I rinsed with salt water immediately after but have been getting occasional pings of pain since about day 5 but just discomfort & a few times the discomfort went to my ear but it didn't last long. How long does it take till the hole completely closes up? HELP! I'm so afraid the clot will dissolve during the night & it's the weekend! I've read that if you don't get dry socket by day 4 or 5 you're in the clear unless you poke @ the extraction site or something causes trauma to it is this true?

It has been 5 days since I got two of my upper wisdom teeth extracted. The right extraction does not bother me and feels like it is almost back to normal. The left side is in pain. The pain has gotten worse and is located on the two teeth closest to where the wisdom tooth was extracted. I also have pain in my ear, eye and a sore throat. I saw the dentist yesterday and she did an xray and examined the sockets and ruled out dry socket. She said the socket is healing fine. The pain in the two teeth she said is coming from a root canal on my bottom tooth (same side). Apparently, the pain is shooting from the root canal to the two top teeth. I am confused. Is this just a coincidence that the teeth that requires a root canal is causing pain to my upper teeth near the extraction? The tooth that needs the root canal is not painful. She has given me antibiotics and pain meds, however, I have not seen any improvements. The two teeth that are in pain do not have cavities. Has anyone experienced this before?

I'm a 27 year old male with no serious issues in my medical history. A few weeks ago, I woke up with a pain in the upper right part of my jaw that hurt when I opened my mouth too wide or moved it from side to side. The next day, it seemed to be fine. A couple days later, the pain was back, and has stuck around. It doesn't hurt when my jaw is in a neutral position or even really when I eat. The pain is high in the jaw, kind of by my ear. I THINK it has gotten better over the last couple days; I don't seem to have any pain opening my mouth wide (just the side to side movement, etc), though it's possible that this is just wishful thinking and that maybe I'm just avoiding painful movements.
I don't think I grind my teeth, but I do have anxiety and perhaps clench my jaw sometimes without realizing it? I'm not sure, but I've been thinking of it as a TMJ-related problem. Only recently have I considered that maybe it's a wisdom tooth that needs to be removed. I know the only way to truly figure this out would be to get an in-person diagnosis from a medical professional, but I have very bare-bones insurance and limited funds to cover costs. As I understand TMDs often go away on their own, though, if it seems more like that than a wisdom tooth, I'd just as soon wait and see.
The pain isn't having a concrete impact on my life right now -- I'm eating and speaking without any problems. It's just frustrating and always in the back of my mind. There are some clicking/grinding sounds sometimes when I move my mouth, which leads me to think it is related to the TMJ. I also have heard that the pain relating to a wisdom tooth is pretty intense -- really a "you know it when you have it" kind of thing.

At age 48 i had a root canal done my bottom right molar, with a filling. The filling never felt quite right even though the dentist tried to correct it. My bite changed and I began feeling the breakthrough of my first and only wisdom tooth on the top right side. Over the last several years(now age 51) these two things have caused my teeth to shift and i now have a gap in the front. is it appropriate to have the wisdom tooth removed(it have out) and get braces?

I am a young adult and I have huge problems with my teeth now after several years of not having medical coverage and extreme fear of dentists. pretty much all my molars are gone and need to be extracted, but on top of that, I may not even be able to get implants or partials because I have an even bigger issue with my bite.I went to a prosthodontist who told me that there isn't enough space between the top and bottom teeth to put anything there like an implant or even dentures and this is absolutely terrifying. He basically told me that he couldn't help me because he "limits his practice to crowns and bridges" so he told me to go back to my general dentist to ask what they can do with my bite. In the end of the day I didn't get anything out of that visit besides horrific news so my question right now is, can it be possible that I can't even get partials because of my bite? what exactly can be done about this? at the moment I have severe anxiety and fear so I can't sleep or even think because of the news that I got and I'm desperate for some good news. Can anyone please help me understand how I can be treated so i could AT LEAST get dentures if not implants?

4-5 days now i been having this annoying pain in my bottom 2 front teeth. I do not know what to do. I brushed, i've taken advil for the pain and it still is not going away. I been told by family its because i rub my tongue against them all the time. Could that be it? Is it something else more serious? Should i go to the dentist? I just want answers on what this is and want it to go away because it is driving me insane.

How can I remove the gaps in my teeth without the use of expensive braces. If there's no possible way then where can I find good but cheap braces. I am tired of not being able to smile in front of my friends and girls because it's just embarrassing.

I'm 16 so my first Wisdom tooth is coming in and from what I've researched it's "impacted". My tooth is half grown and is growing towards my gum. It's absolutely throbbing and it's a Sunday meaning my dentist isn't open. I can deal with the pain until Monday but honestly I'd rather not because I'd miss college.
I know a dentist that's open on Saturdays but I'm unsure how that would work cost wise as I'm under 18 so I should be covered by the NHS but I d'no if I have to prove that I am so if anyone knows that would be helpful. Also, is my wisdom tooth an urgent issue? Yes, it's painful and gets worse but other than that is it urgent? Finally, does an impacted wisdom tooth guarantee extraction and do you need to take a parent to the dentist with you as i'm not currently at home?

Im ashamed of my teeth because they are stained browny/black and plaque round the bottom of them, also my teeth are overcrowded. I faced my phobia a couple of years ago and had a few sessions with the hygienist. Anyway they are no really bad again and i'm in agony.feeling down.not sleeping and drinking all day to numb the pain but not working also very panicky and anxious and not been at work.

I'm a 20 year old smoker who does an awful job at brushing her teeth. I've gone months due to my depression without taking care of my mouth but started brushing everyday since I've found these raised tiny dots on the upper corners of the mouth. they're a pale yellow and they're the size of a pen point, maybe even smaller. I also have a patch on both sides of the inside of my cheeks which recently spread to the corner of my bottom lip on the left side. they don't hurt at all, they don't ooze nor do they bleed or scab. I can't pop them either. when I first discovered them they would sometimes expand about a size or two, turn white and then painlessly pop. this has only happened the first four days they first appeared. it's been two weeks and if anything they have just spread. sometimes they even feel raised and a bit rough when I push my tongue to them then later in the day it will feel like nothing is there or back to their normal size. I was told these were fordyce spots but I am unsure due to their behavior. I know this isn't contagious because I made out with my partner when these first appeared and he's still fine. I also have a small clear sack on the inside of my cheek on both sides near my bottom teeth. can anyone confirm that these are fordyce spots? if they are what would you recommend. if not what could these little pests be?

For several years I have had a lump on the lower gum that appears, then if I poke with a needle it releases blood and disappears. It is right next to some teeth that catch food, I have to floss after every meal. It also seems as if the gum and cheek are joined there, rather than separate as on other side of mouth. Dentist said I should have hospital appointment but I don't think it is anything serious as has not changed over the years. It is annoying having to floss all the time but have to put up with it.

I have this lump on my gum right by the base of the tooth where it goes into the gum. It does not hurt at all it was bigger at first but now is smaller but sometimes it pusses never randomly bleeds unless it pusses first. Now this too the is right beside two teeth that I got pulled because of an infection. Its the same color as my gums a pink red. If I knew how to post a picture I would do so its not very big at all and like o said its gone down in size but now it seems to be remaining this size its been on my gum for maybe 2 weeks.

Getting my wisdom teeth out this Friday and I'm really scared. My lower right side is impacted and growing horizontal and causing my right cheek to be a bit swollen and my neck as well. I have slight jaw and tooth pain and war paint. Dentist prescribed antibiotics for 10 days and I started the course yesterday and going to continue it after the surgery to prevent infection. I am very scared of this procedure although so many people have gotten it done. I have extreme anxiety and this is causing it to sky rocket. My dentist sedated the patient which I'm glad about due to me not wanting to actually be aware of what they are doing. He doesn't do IV sedation he does oral sedation. I take two halcion pills and two antihistamine pills an hour before the appointment and I should be very relaxed by the time I get there and he will give more depending on how I am when I get there. Two friends did oral sedation though and said it was okay. But a lot more have done iv. I was told it's less of a sleep feeling with oral sedation because I'm not put out immediately but I will most likely not remember the actual procedure. I'm scared can someone share their wisdom teeth experiences and maybe if they took the pill or even just how it feels like to wake up after and stuff. I'm scared that I won't wake up from the sedation although I'm not gonna be actually sleeping.

I am getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and I am very very nervous. I have severe anxiety all the time so this is not helping. I will be getting the sedation pills so I don't feel or remember the surgery. I am just scared about it and scared of the sedation etc. I just need some advice and encouragement please because I'm freaking out. I've been having so many complications this last month such as my jaw swelling and neck swelling on the same side as my impacted horizontal tooth. I got so scared that I had to make an appointment to get them out.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted last Wednesday under sedation in a hospital. The first, second, and third day went just fine. When it came to the fourth and fifth day I hard to go to the ER cuz the pain was unbearable. The gave me a shot for inflammation and some hydrocodone syrup. Day 6 I went back to the surgeon....a different one this time and he said I had dry socket and he packed it with the medicated sponges, then came out a few hours later....needless to say it's day 8 and still in pain. If it wasn't for pain killers I wouldn't want to live. This is worst then when I had my breast surgery.
