Contraception :: Implanon And Continuous Heavy Spotting
Jan 30, 2016
I've been on implanon and the pills. With both, I experience continuous heavy spotting. I probably don't spit at least one month out the year. Would you recommend a low hormone birth control? I don't understand why I constantly bleed.

does it last up to the exact date that you got it or is it just an estimated time.

I am actually gutted because I thought it was great for me for a while. As soon as I had it put in I had frequent, not always predictable periods that would range from light- to- heavy-, usually alternating! However, I thought that this wasn't too big a deal since it is meant to be almost an almost 100% effective contraceptive (I was told no one had gotten pregnant on it when I had it put in) and, seeing as I was told that the majority of women don't have periods (over 90%) I thought I was just unlucky and plodded on without concern. (Although this transpires to be untrue!!)
I had a lot going on at the time of having the implant and so was a bit stressed out anyway and always had something to link feelings to, but now that life is on an even keel I have noticed that these feelings, far from going away have strengthened! I have become teary- here are some examples: crying at Big Brother and Supernanny (that is SO not me- although I can cope with this in isolation!)and also have: low self- esteem (which is sometimes worse than others to the point of complete low), low energy, bloatedness, lack of concentration, lack of positivity, inability to make and stick to decisions, grumpiness- it goes on.... Oh, and the periods just keep on coming! But worse than all of this is the fact that I have this constant feeling of worry, which just eats away at you and drains you of all your energy.
So, yes for me it is an effective contraception, but largely because there's just no let up at times and not a lot left to give at others!
I have heard lots of fantastic cases where people don't have any problems. After some of the negative effects I have had I would never URGE someone to try it, but I would say it suits some people and you have to weigh up all of the things you read on this site and elsewhere and decide for yourself. I have read some terrible stories though, so just keep an eye open for symptoms and take care of yourselves.
The doctor thinks that I should definitely see an improvement when the thing is removed, so fingers crossed! I would love someone to do some proper research on how women are feeling who are on it and why it affects some or not others.

I am looking for input as far as the Implanon birth control implant. I have read pages upon pages about this and how it works. However, I'd like to hear a few personal experiences if possible. My insurance covers 100% of the cost, so that is not an issue.
A little about me: I'm going to be 24 in a few short days. My fiance' and I do not have any interest in having children in the next five to eight years. We have a number of long-term goals, and are just not ready for a child any time in the near future.
Thanks in advance!

I have had an implanon for more than a year now. But probably 4 months ago I started getting acne. Although I realize that it is one of implanon side effects could it be possible that it is only happening now, after a whole year? And another thing is, whenever I take antibiotics like Tetralysal 300mg or purbac for my acne, my bleeding starts and it won't stop unless I stop with the antibiotic. Is this normal?

12 months ago, I had a copper coil fitted after I was taken off my trusty contraceptive pill, due to high blood pressure. I had no pain or bleeding. First period after the fitting was fine, no change really, a few pains but that was all. On my second period, I was bleeding really heavily and was in unbelievable pain, thought I was going to black out for a week.
I went to the doctors and they had me checked over, ultrasounds etc and told me everything was fine, I just had to wait for it to calm down.
Now 12 months on, I'm still experiencing this excruciating pain, about a week after I've had my period and I'm usually in a little bit of pain the week before. I've been back to the doctors in the meantime and they've taken blood tests and swabs and said everything looks fine.
Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this?

I went to see my doctor today about heavy and painful periods, and I had asked her is there anything apart from the contraceptive pill that she could give me for it. She said she recommended the Mirena Coil, I said that my sister in law has said that she got it put in and she bled for 3 months solid. I told her I'd have a think about it, and she told me to look up this website, and read all these comments and decide for myself. After reading everyone's comments, I can safely say, that I am not now or ever intending to get the Mirena Coil inserted because am wanting to reduce my flow and every1 has said that it has just made it worse.

Had my daughter in Oct 12 by c sec and in Dec 12 I had the copper coil fitted. Worst thing I have ever done!
Ever since I have had it fitted, my cycle is only 25 days and my periods are very very heavy and last 12 -13 days!
I feel like I am always bleeding and it's starting to get me down. My normal cycle ( before baby was born) was never like this.
I went to my GP in feb and they advised as baby was 4 months old I'd had a dip in my hormones ( apparently everyone does) that's why I was feeling so sh1tty and to give it a few more months. I went bk in April and again in May abd I've now been given tablets to stop the heavy bleeding. I've tried 2 different tablets now and they don't seem to help. The first day or so is not too bad ( I still have to wear 'super plus' but change every few hours) . The next 8 days are horrendous!! I am usually house bound and even walking kids 15 doors up from my house to their school turns in to a rush bk to chabge my clothes as I've leaked everywhere!! I am using super plus and a night pad and I would say I need to change ever 30-40 mins!!
Sex is out of the question as I am heavy bleeding constantly! I feel tired. ( where I'm looking blood constantly ) and now my doc have put me on iron tablets.
I have just had blood tests done as my doc wants to check hormone levels etc.
Really thinking of having it taken out as I am feeling like I'm constantly bleeding and feeling sooo tired. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this with the coil?
When I had my section I did have a heavy bleed and lost alot of blood. Don't know if I have a slight tear or something which causes my bleeding ?

I was started on Lutera in July 2015 and since then, I've been continuously spotting. In between the spotting I'll bleed slightly heavy for an hour during the day for about 4-5 days. Then I'll go back to spotting. I've called my doctor about the bleeding in September, about how it's been continuous and she said its my body regulating itself. Has anyone else had a similar experience when they started birth control?

I have been taking birth control pills for about 6 years now, on and off. I usually take it every month, however for the last month I did not take the pills. My periods did not come after the month ended but it came after about two months for itself. I started taking the pills after my periods finished and into about a week of the pills, I began spotting, this never happened before. I have protected sex with my bf, so I highly doubt I am pregnant, but I still wanted to find out what could be the causes of my irregular spotting?

Both of my children (19 and 21) left home last Sunday and went to live in the USA. I've been a single parent for 10 years so now I am on my own after 22 years and I feel so desperately lost and worthless like there's no point in me being here anymore, my job is done. I work for myself at home so I don't even go out apart from taking my dog for a walk. I suffer from chronic back pain caused by a sporting injury many years ago for which I take Morphine and on its own I can normally cope with but coupled with this desperately lonely feeling I don't know if I can make it through another day. I've searched the internet for professional help for my situation, but there doesn't seem to be anything available. Should I go and see my GP (who barely knows me) or does anybody have any suggestions? I just feel like a total failure and don't know who to turn to

I'm here because my spotting-bleeding-spotting is confusing me. I have a regular 28 day cycle, on TTC but stopped with all the procedure couple of months ago, still tracking my fertile period.
Then this spotting started on the first day of my ovulation May 29, exactly 14 days after my 1st day period may 15. from spotting it went to slight bleeding (I thought it would stop, enough to fill a panty liner). I
t is already June 10 as I'm writing this and still spotting a little though(still have those brown discharges).
I'm expecting my period tomorrow. I wish and hope its implantation or breakthrough bleeding but I am more "worried".
AM I OK?

I am 18 year old. I got the Implanon inserted on May 19, 2010. I had a period for 2 months straight after having it inserted. After that, my period stopped. I had it removed Around the end of 2011. My period returned for a few days, and has been on and off since. I was put on the pill, but even that couldn't help straighten it back out. I just recently got married and we are wanting to have a child, I am really concerned that I am not able to conceive.
