Contraception :: Coming Off Microgynon, Side Effects?
May 5, 2013
Don't know if this helps but my prior medical history is - under active thyroid (on 125mcg) and I have PCOS.
I was put on microgynon 30 ED over a month ago due to heavy and long lasting periods (they would last nearly the entire year). The microgynon 30 instantly stopped the bleeding which I was so happy about, until the pill free week where I bled stupidly heavy, was going through over 10 'night/super heavy' pads a day, plus bleeding through pj bottoms and sheets . This was accompanied by intense lower abdomen and stomach pain and I soon ended up in hospital as I was so faint and my heart rate got up to 160. Thankfully, physically I was okay 'down there' and the obgyn said it could be hormonal, to take mefenamic acid along with tranexamic acid and she probably thought it was hormonal and to stop the microgynon.
I did and ever since the pain has been horrid. I don't know if this is purely coincidental? But, recently I'm still having the intense back pain, lower abdomen cramps, stomach ache, migraines, hot flashes (I'm only 24!), tight chest pains and vaginal pain (aching and stabbing sensations). Also, my anxiety levels have rocketed to the point of I'm pretty much scared to leave my house. I'm really trying to make it out every day though, so I suppose some part of my rationale is there hidden beneath this mess.
I just don't know what is causing it and I'm going to bed at night thinking I'm going to die haha. That or I am going totally mad and it is all in my little head. I truly hope it is just my hormones are totally out of sync.

I started taking the pill about a month ago, specifically Cerazette which is the progestogen based pill. It was fine until I got my first period whilst on the pill, since then I've bled consistently and heavily for 3 weeks which is causing me a great deal of discomfort. I went to my local clinic yesterday and switched to the combined pill which I'm told is good at regulating periods and my doctor tells me that I should come off my period within a week, but I am worried that it will continue for longer than that. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the chances are of this problem persisting for longer than said week and if there are any forms of contraception other than condoms which would eliminate this problem for me. Any advice is appreciated.

I got the shot on September 17th of this year and am due for another on November 22nd. I had not had a period until the 1st of November, which I am still on now. I know ongoing periods are normal, but I do not want it to continue and I am so worried that it will. I have also been very moody. I find myself angry at the littlest of things, and crying more often than ever. I wanted some outside opinions on whether or not I should continue with the depo or if I should try a different form of birth control.

I have had an implanon for more than a year now. But probably 4 months ago I started getting acne. Although I realize that it is one of implanon side effects could it be possible that it is only happening now, after a whole year? And another thing is, whenever I take antibiotics like Tetralysal 300mg or purbac for my acne, my bleeding starts and it won't stop unless I stop with the antibiotic. Is this normal?

I am 37 and live in the UK, I've just finished my 3 month course of Esmya for the 5 Fibroids I have.
Now I can tell you about all the side effects of which I suffered from the weight gain to the hot flushes, but its really the stage of finishing the course and what happens next I would like advice if anyone has any??
It has now been 1 week and 5 days since i took my last tablet, and the first week I was ok but after that I have had very dull aches in the tops of my thighs and stabbing pains in my lower stomach, as you women will know when it gets to that time of the month majority of people have that stabbing pain which feels like it is going straight up the middle of your stomach, well this is just like it but more severe as to the point I double over, I was seen last night by the out of hours GP and he gave me some painkillers to manage the symptoms but that's all he could do, he had never heard of Esmya so couldn't advise me, just told me to contact my own GP who then would be able to get in touch with my consultant up at the hospital.
I just wondered has anyone else had this problem and was told it was a normal process as no-one has told me what happens after taking Esmya, only that my periods should start again within 4 weeks of stopping the medication?

I'm on microgynon and had sex around a week and a half before i was due to have my 7 day break, then missed a pill around 3 days and 5 days after (about 15 hours after was due to take i took them). As i had less than 7 pills left in the pack i missed my 7 day break and started a new pack as that's what the leaflet said if you miss more than one pill..
i have read online that it only counts as a missed pill if its more than 24 hours after due to take it anyway so am i worrying about nothing or should i be worried?
I have had about 5 days worth of the new strip but my breasts have been really tender the last few days, if i need to do a test do i need to wait until my next 7 day break or can i do one before?

I've just started taking these today to try and sort hormones out after they've been flaring for weeks on end, is it normal to feel a little weird when first starting out like mood wise? Just feel a bit unusual.

I'm back on this pill after a 2 year break to have a baby.I I started it last month, as advised, the first over my period. I've finished the first Pk, now I'm on day 4 of 7 day break from pill taking, no period has happened. My partner and I have agreed to use condoms also for a couple months to allows the pill to get bk in my system fully as in an extra precaution. All that happened one night when I was about to take it it slipped out hand and rolled under sofa, so I picked a tablet from another Pk for that day and just threw rest that full Pk away. Is it normal to have not had a period yet?

I started taking this when I was 14 and had a regular bleed that began on the same day. However I stopped taking it at the beginning of the year. I then carried on at the start of the month for a new partner. I haven't been taking it at the same time everyday due to being out, its ranged from 8pm-12am. We have only had sex without a condom a few times whilst I've been on the pill but im now 3 days into my 7 day break and I have not bled yet. Could I be pregnant? And how do I approach my partner?

I have brown patches on my face and my doctor has told me they may be a side effect from the contraceptive pill, but that is just a possibility.I don't want to change my method of contraception but i'm willing to if these brown patches disappear my doctor doesn't seem to know a lot and there's just no way I can afford to see a dermatologist.

I had an old packet of the pill left with about 8 days pills remaining. I took one, not on the first day of my period, but about 2 weeks from the usual period days. My bf and I had intercourse and he ejaculated inside me. I continued with the remainder of the pack as required but forgot to take one pill about 4 days later, I took that pill on the Thursday mornings and took the usual Thursday pill on Thursday night, then Friday pill on Friday morning..I continued with the pack but forgot to take the Monday pill and took Tuesday on Tuesday and Wednesday on Wednesday... I should have had my period today and it feels like there should be a period but I've not had my period! Do you think I could be pregnant or have I just messed up my system?! Really don't want a baby just yet!! Boobs aren't sore like usually are when I'm premenstrual but tummy feels warm sometimes throughout today... I've now got 3 new packets of the pill which I should take on Thursday following a 7 day break...

I've had a lot of breakthrough bleeding the last few weeks and am looking into changing my pill. However I'm going to a spa weekend this weekend and read online that to help with break through bleeding you can take two pills on one day and then carry on as normal. I have done this and hope to carry on with my normal pack tomorrow however all day I have felt very nauseous and have had a dodgy tummy constantly on the toilet. Is this because of the extra hormones my body isn't taking it very well? I did take them on an empty stomach stupidly as it was early and I didn't really think. Just worried I'm going to be really ill.

I've been ill for 2 years with what docs say is anxiety,so 5 months ago I came off the depo to see if this helps,I had been on it for 6 years since having my son and was on it for 10 years before that with no probs, last time I stopped it other than it taking ages for my period to return I don't seem to of had any problems, but my god this time is different but then I didn't have anxiety then.my main symptom is dizzy lightheaded ness which is with me 24/7 but for the last 2 weeks I'm hardly able to stand also I have the most horrendous pains in my groin hips legs and privates they feel sharp and heavy,I also feel sick, tired, headache, bad breathing and depressed but I have no period yet is this normal? Is it my hormones trying to get back to normal.i have these symptoms normally( not the pains) but it's like everything is 1000 times worse.

I took 2 doses (injections) of depo last summer. The first month into it I bled for 2-3 weeks and then slight spotting here and there up until september. My last shot was in September and then I decided to not go back for another dosage. Ever since last September I have not seen a period until late June. Ever since that period I had a period every 2 to 3 weeks. Is this normal or should I see my primary doctor? Also I've had a coloscopy in May so this might have been another factor. My last visit to the doctor a nurse told me it might take months or a year for my periods to go back to normal. Any one had a similar experience of periods coming every 2 to 3 weeks after depo?

Can anyone tell me if dizzy spells are a side effect of coming off Citalopram. I have been reducing from 10mg to 5mg for the last 2 weeks and it has been going ok with a few moments of anxiety. But tonight I had to pull over on my way home after becoming dizzy at the wheel. Is this normal or might it be something else?

I am a 47 year old male (right weight for height) and reasonably fit running three times a week who has recently had to visit the doctor (first time in years) for severe neck pain caused by strenuous gardening work -so called leisure.
However my blood pressure was checked over the past few weeks and has found to be continuously very high ranging 190/115 to 150/90. My GP has decided to put me on ramipril starting with 2.5mg increasing to 5 mg and then 10mg over six weeks. On reading the comments about side effects I am really concerned which has now possibly increased my blood pressure further - really concerned on what to do, should I get a second opinion through my private medical before starting this treatment?

I'm looking to start orlistat this week but after reading over everyone's experiences I'm a bit nervous to start. Are the side effects really that bad as I don't want to make a fool out of myself at work!

I am about to use Viagra and I am a lot scared. I have never needed it but I guess I do now. So who knows about this drug, are there serious side effects. I do not want to trade one problem for another due to the drug itself.

I used the tablets for 5 months and a bit, should be taking it for 6 months but i decide to give into not taking them due to really bad side effects.
When i started, i took 2 TWICE a day for 4 months but, rashes appeared on my cheeks, completely red and skin dried also on my nose. I couldn't bear the suffering, i applied creams like E45 (made things worse for me) then i switched to sudocrem, applying it to my face where the rashes were. this seemed to help stop the rash from getting any worse. I went to see the doctor who said i should cut down on the tabs to 1 Twice a day so i finally started to heal from the rashes. I carried on using the tabs this way until the rashes appeared on my nose again, it was really bad.
To those who suffer from Eczema, be warned as this course may effect it, making it really bad. This is the reason why i have to quit from this 6 month course (am finishing on 5 and a bit months) As for acne, it helped clear it up nicely even old scars until a point where my skin could heal no further ( i stayed the same after the 3rd month) so hopefully, changes are permanent and my side effects will go away from stopping this course.
