Citalopram And Bruising
Dec 18, 2015
I've been on 10mg of Citalopram for 8 weeks, a few days ago I knelt on a small toy which didn't hurt just made me jump. I now have a completely bruised knee (it's totally purple!) Has anyone else experience excessive bruising or should I worry that it's something else??!?

I gave up my job because I was so stressed and such an emotional wreck. I 've gone back to uni to do another course, I have tasks to complete and I just don't feel motivated to do anything at all. I m doing work experience and I don't care anymore. I m On list to see therapist at the end of month. I'm usually active person and maybe it's the anxiety that kept me going but all I do now Is not to do anything at all I lay about and sleep I postpone everything I need to do is this normal? I have no energy or drive, has anyone else experienced this?

I have had a really tough year, and was prescribed citalopram 12 weeks ago, started on 10mg for 2 weeks then 20mg ever since. I haven't been feeling any better, I have been going through a break up so its hard to know what's heartbreak and what's depression but the only thing that's seemed to be improving is anxiety which was taking over my life.
I still wake up most days not wanting to move, feeling hopeless and like I don't want to be here (I wouldn't physically hurt myself) and non stop crying and fear of the future and low self esteem. I used to be so confident and outgoing and happy, my world has crashed in the last year and recently I spoke to my doctor who has raised the dose to 40mg which I have now been taking for 3 days. I feel absolutely worse and again not sure if it's circumstantial. I feel embarrassed In Front of my friends and family as one minute I'll be crying and struggling to breath having a panic attack and the next I'll be laughing and smiling. Has anyone else suffered in the same way? I am hoping that this dosage is what I need but I'm just having teething problems. Right now though I feel very scared and worried it's not going to do the trick if I feel like this.

I am 15 days post op. Most of you have now watched a hip replacement video Am amazed at the lack of pain . My question is bruising. Where did you get your bruising and what colours did you experience. I ask this as just below the side of my knee felt so bruised but nothing was there. Well that's what i thought. My nurse looked at the home visit and said it was bruised so i got hubby to take a photo. I was gobsmacked its yellow and runs right to my ankle where its purple. Apparently its VERY common.. i will see if dot will post a pic for me

Not sure if the two have anything to do with each other, but ever since I gave birth 10 months ago, I have been bruising very easily, mostly on the thigh area.... They are usually really big, various colors, and usually don't hurt, but sometimes they do. Today I woke up with a whopper on my arm and its purple and green and blue, and it hurts really badly. Not sure if its got anything to do with having a baby, but this never happened prior. I do not breast feed and I had a C-section. Any info?

So for nearly two years now I have had a growing pain over the ridge of my left foot, I'm almost positive that it is my extensor hallucis longus. The pain is not present when resting, unless I stretch my big toe up towards me, and is much worse if I apply a measure of force against it. Once I start to walk the pain gradually worsens until I cannot put pressure on that particular side of my foot due to it not being able to hold my weight without severe discomfort. The pain emerges the moment I start walking and within an hour maximum it will be at its peak. Once I have stopped walking, the ridge of my foot will be extremely swollen, about as large as a golf ball, dark red and bruised.
I have tried to stay off it for a time, at one point using crutches for a week, applying a bandage, stretching, loosening my laces, wearing different styles of shoes (converse high-tops are my usual preference, but tried trainers, boots and dress shoes too), applying ice to the affected area and also taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, all to no avail. As I said, it's been just a few months shy of two years and is gradually getting worse both in pain and swelling/bruising.
Also just a small overview of my physical stature as I assume it could be of some use
5"11
60-65kg
23 years of age
Shoe size 11-12 (depending on the style of shoe)
Physical fitness is good.
Could anyone recommend any other course of action before I finally give in and consult my GP, and also confirm my suspicion of tendonitis, or speculate on other conditions it may or may not be?

I have a problem with easy bruising. I am 40 years old, reasonably fit and have no major health issues. For the past year I have noticed that I have been bruising very easily, and in particular the bruises are always quite hard lumps. I even had some pretty big haematomas on my legs after a few knocks playing football.
Anyway I have been to my docs, and had all the basic blood tests and everything came back normal. Then I was referred to a Haematologist for another 2 sets of tests, all of which again were normal - some of the common bruising things tested for were - Von Willebrand's, platelet functions, factor 13, all of which were fine. I think I have pretty much had all the tests that can be had for blood disorders.
So I don't really know what to do now - the specialist couldn't come up with anything really. The bruises are more annoying than dangerous, but I'd like to try and get to the bottom of the issue. I don't have any other problems with bleeding.
One thing that happened that may be connected is that just before I noticed the increase in bruising, I had a second infection of Strep throat (bacterial tonsillitis). I had to go through 3 different types of antibiotics as I was mildly allergic to 2 of them - one gave me a mild rash, the other gave me a sore back (i though it was my kidneys but the doctor checked and said it wasn't). So it may be just a coincidence by it seem to me that this has messed with my immune system and caused the bruising problems.
Currently I am taking a course of probiotics to see if that can re-dress the balance, but it does not seem to be making a difference.
I have a healthy diet, play tennis twice a week and football once a week.

I had my op 10 days ago and due to have my clips out on Tuesday, I am still really bruised around the wound (black) and yellow further down and its sore on the bruising, I have put this down to a couple of things I am on blood thinners and also constantly putting pressure on while sitting and lying down due to the position of it. I am also still weeping a little from the wound (bandage looks disgusting) in fact I cant bring myself to look at it most of the time haha. Anyway just seeing how long other people's bruising took to diminish and also anything I can do to it to help with the healing process.

I have severe bruising on my arm. Whole right arm. Super ugly. I've been diagnosed with pmr for three years. Could be down to 5 mg. However, had major insect sting and hives and reaction. So, went back up to 40/20/10 mg prednisone for 12 days per Doctor. . Doctor gave me steroid shot, too. Please tell me that this new super dose of prednisone may have caused all this major bruising? If so, maybe can tolerate for a month or more?

i am 10 weeks post TKR including knee cap. I have been doing well can walk 3 miles, walk up and down stairs properly albeit only 2-3 times a day. The swelling is under control this only happens when I overdo it. My problem is that I have bruising show up behind the knee it was not there last week, not sure how long it has been there, but the last 2-3 days I have experienced bad pain in knee, so much so that I have had to start taking tramadol and paracetamol to ease it. Has anyone else had this?

I underwent an EPS for cardiac arrhythmia one week ago but it has left me with severe bruising half way down my thigh. It is not swollen and not painful just a little in my groin. I did bleed a bit after the procedure and when i stood to go home and the cardiologist seemed to have difficulty inserting the catheter into my groin.
has anyone else gone through this after an EPS is this typical?

I bumped by toe and had some bruising but no swelling a few days ago. I have been walking on my foot but favoring the side not injured. Now there is a redness on the edge of the bruising and I am concerned about infection.

I recently started on Tysabri and have had some strange side effects. I have experienced joint pain after every infusion so far. Same thing happened this time except now I have a huge purple bruise on the top of my foot. The foot is painful to put weight on. I went to my PCP today and she noticed a second bruise on the same foot starting to form, this one looking like it may even be bigger. She sent me for an xray which was negative. She also took blood to see if it is a coagulation issue. Has anyone experienced anything like this? My MS doc is aware of the joint pain but the bruising is something new. Should I wait to hear about the lab work or go ahead and call tomorrow just to notify them? I have no idea if this is meds, MS itself or something unrelated.

Just wondering whether people get any unexplained bruising or get easily bruised? I get them quite often and it's worrying me. My rheumatologist said that it can happen as our body is over sensitive.

For the past weeks I've been getting random bruises around my legs, but now I found one in my arm. I find them weird because I don't bruise easily, plus they are tiny (although there is one that is larger in size) and I don't recall hitting myself with anything repeatedly to cause them. Additionally, I've been feeling increasingly tired, even when I sleep for a long time (i.e. 10 hours). Could this be related?
I've had leg pains for the past 12 years (I'm 20), but the reasons are still unknown. Could the bruises be related to this?
Plus, I get pains around my right-lower back, and around my uterus (like slight cramps. The last time I went to the gynecologist a sonogram was performed and I had an ovarian cyst. I was supposed to return after my period for another sonogram to see if it was endometriosis (it was a huge cyst), but was not able to. Are these pains related to that, or something else?

I've had scans which show suspected PCOS but my doctor couldn't diagnose is (weird). I have since changed my GP and he has booked me in for another scan. For the past 2 months I've had a small bruise on my left side. Just up and in from my hip bone. You can see a slight bruise on skin too.
I have a very irregular cycle especially since my miscarriage in October.
Just wondering if anyone else has had the bruising after a period?
